There was no castle around Rowan was he awoke. Only the smell of hay and the sound of horses snorting and kicking their stalls on the other side of the wall. His very humble home, built onto the barn, wasn't much to look at. At one time, he too had slept in the castle as a welcomed guest. Now he was treated as little more than a common animal.

Rowan groaned as he crawled out of his lumpy bed, a mattress stuffed with straw. His hooves clacked as they drug across the wood floor towards his kitchen cabinets. He had a small wood burning stove to cook with, and a fire pit outside when he wanted to roast. His water supply, however, was the pump outside of the barn, the very same used to water the animals.

Rowan opened a cabinet to pull out a piece of poppyseed bread he'd made a couple days ago. It was the last bit, and probably the last for a while. Flour wasn't easy to come by these days. He munched on the bread as he went to the stove and pulled a pot full of water off of it. The water was tinted a deep purple, with a heavy smell of lavender and rosemary. The concentrated tea is what Rowan liked to put in his baths to make himself smell pleasant. Just because the retched king treated him like a beast didn't mean he had to smell like one.

Rowan carried the pot outside to the large tub that sat by the pump. Lucky for him, privacy wasn't really something he desperately needed. Although the pump was behind the barn, and many people didn't wander back there, it was still very much outside and in the open. Rowan paid no mind as he pumped the handle to fill the tub up. He then dumped the tea into it.

He washed his hair fist, dunking his head under water and running his fingers through his curls. He scrubbed at his face with a rag until he felt the dirt and cinder from the forge melt away. Black soot spotted his body from his work as a blacksmith. He used the rag to scrub it off, then splashed himself clean with the water. Once he felt considerably cleaner, he dumped the water into the grass and took his pot back inside.

Rowan shook his hair and backside free of dripping water before going into his small home. He didn't want to get his floor all wet. The satyr set the pot back on the stove and grabbed his bag of work tools. The blacksmith shop was much nicer than his own home. It gave Rowan plenty of room to work with his assistant, so that they weren't constantly running into each other and stepping on toes. It was set apart from the castle, in a corner section of the grounds. The walk from the barn wasn't a long one.

Titania stopped hearing movement from the barn. Good the blacksmith was up. She stretched looking down at the soft fabric of the vest running a hand over the soft silk. She would kill to own a dress made of the beautiful fabric, well. She would have to, she was a poor seamstress, silk was fit for rich and noble people in this world. She sighed and hummed to herself moving around on the porch gathering everything a shooing the fat hens. Carefully she made her way into her small house and dug around the piles of ribbon and fabric for her tin of metal buttons, finding the small box she put down her needle, thread and spare fabric taking the buttons and vest to visit Rowan.
She didn't go into his house in the bard, instead waiting by his shop with the forge. She looked in the sad little case of the buttons and backs sighing. She went through so many, and was a little short on money to buy the nice buttons she needed for some orders. She looked up, scrunching her eyebrows. "Rowan, I need a favor of you..."

Rose was awoken by the sun streaming in though the window on the small house she was living in. For a moment, she drew the covers tighter around herself, trying to protect her body from the cool morning breeze that made it though the cracks in the walls, but eventually the girl dragged herself out of bed and began her day.

After pulling on a dark green dress and a pair of boots, she grabbed a crust of bread and headed out towards the forge. She quickly braided her hair back as she walked, ignoring the stares of the other people in the street. Rose held her head high, despite the whispers that surrounded her. Royalty or not, she was not going to let a thing like gossip bother her. As she neared the forge, she noticed Rowan conversing with the seamstress. Not wanting to interrupt, Rosalynn stood back, waiting patiently for him to finish and explain to her what she was to do.

Rowan was a bit surprised to see the castle seamstress in his shop. The place wasn't exactly neat. Dust and soot on just about every surface, a stifling heat inside even with the forge running low on coal, sharp iron tools hanging from the ceiling and walls. Not the place for a woman who dealt in fine fabrics.

At her mention of needing a favor, Rowan tilted his head towards her as he walked by, floppy ears perking slightly. He let out a questioning "Hmph?" His hooves scraped on the stone floor as he walked.

Without stopping to chit chat, the satyr made his way to the barrels of coal that sat by the furnace. He picked up a shovel and began dumping more in. It would take a while to re-heat the forge; he didn't have time to waste. However, he was perfectly capable of talking and shoveling at the same time.

"What might that be?" He inquired towards the seamstress. Rowan's eyes happened to wander off of her and to his newly arrived pupil. Ah, good. She could help.

Titania looked around at the amazing work of the forge smiling. She preferred her fabrics but the heat was similar to when she had to spin thread or work inside, the dust not bothering her. The shirtless man though did. "You need a shirt..." She grumbled silently to herself scowling before she shook her head digging through the box of buttons. " I. I umm, I was commissioned to make a vest for one of the barons. I only need two but I don't have enough money... Could you make up some silver buttons? I know it's asking a lot, I'll owe you for sure and will do something for you but." She was slightly red in the face keeping her eyes on her shoes. "I need this order to go well, I'm low on money and need more bolts of fabric, I don't have enough for something else I'm working on." The Irish woman started rambling about weave and thread and the cost of things before she realized what she was doing and shut up looking embarrassed. "I understand if it's too much. But I can't afford to just go to the market and get my own. And all of your work is so wonderful." She looked at the ex-princess smiling. "I'm sure your brilliant apprentice helps and is learning quickly too." She fiddled with the buttons looking through the small box. She had a few but all of them where wrong. "I need the buttons to be about as large as your thumbnail, no design if you can't do that. Nothing too fancy" She smiled shyly chewing on her dry lips. She needed to get back to work, the princesses dress was almost complete she just needed a little more fabric for some of the outer works, she had a new shirt to make for the stuck up king and fitting takes hours, the king was a rude young man and she needed to keep time open in case people came for fittings and cloths. Worse case she would have to do a wedding dress, she didn't have nearly enough fabric. She sighed deflating slightly. "I'm not doing so good on business... I miss the real royal family, with them they gave me money to afford the bolts I needed. Now I'm scrambling and begging to afford basic bolts of fabric..." She dragged a hand over her face shaking her head quickly. "I apologize."

The Fool watched the dazzling colors of the morning daylight hit the castle, sighing softly. He had already been up since the early hours after midnight; not being a long sleeper. He liked it anyway; having a couple moments of privacy before the hustle and bustle of the Castle went into full swing.
Plus, he wasn't only a court jester in those times.

Putting on some simple clothing opposite to his monochrome jester outfit, just simple greens and blacks, Fool tip-toed out of his barren quarters. Looking side to side, he surveyed some of the palace's best already at work, but didn't say anything to throw off their concentration.

Actually, he was deep in thought himself; planning his next routine for when he was called. He chuckled to himself, wondering if people actually knew he 'thought'. Most looked at him with indifference after awhile, labeling him as the dim-witted jester who just has to humiliate himself to stay in the King's favor.

Not that he minded: It was all part of the riddle.

Magnus awoke to a stiff neck but the smell of orchids already by his bed, stretching like a lion as he blinked his eyes. "Another new day" He murmured, doing the necessary things to get dressed.

He saw one of the servants had brought his riding gear as requested, noting that he would say thanks later. He didn't feel like wearing the bright blues of his nobility today, besides, he was just going for a ride.

Skipping breakfast, Magnus went to the stable to go tend to his horse before he rode off. Harbinger, his black and white stallion, greeted hi warmly. "Good to see you too." He laughed, pushing away the horse's head gently.

Despite the playfulness in the stable, the two were all business when it came to riding. The horse shot off into the surrounding area with no hitch, Magnus barely steering the reigns. He was going to see the King, just to ask if he was needed in any way.

Maria was woke up just a few minutes late, hurriedly cleaning up her cramped house for just a couple minutes before tucking all her hair into a cap. Her small chest held all the clothes she currently owned, and while she looked through some of the old, dirty dresses near the bottom, she came upon the only remaining dress she had from her time as a ruler. Maria sighed quietly, running her fingers over the fabric, as it had become a bit of a habitual thing at this point, and she quickly pulled out a dress, shutting the trunk and locking it. She didn't live that lifestyle anymore, and she certainly didn't need to dwell on the fact that it was unlikely she'd ever need to wear that dress again. All that she needed to do was make sure her remaining family was safe.

Maria headed out the door, grabbing a piece of bread from two days ago and quickly eating it while she made her way to the seamstress' shop. She saw that Titania was working with a customer and she quietly stepped around him, making her way to the back room. Titania's shop was the one that the royal family had frequented while they were in power, however, like everything in the kingdom recently, it was starting to become more and more rundown with less and less business. The woman sat down, picking up one of the few items they could still make, and noting the small piece of paper with her own writing on it, starting carefully sewing.

Lily continued down to the dining hall, but on her way, she remembered that she needed to make arrangements for a new dress, as her favorite had recently gotten a rip in it from a thorn. She turned around and went out of the side entrance which was close to the seamstress' shop, and she caught a glimpse of the seamstress at the blacksmith shop talking to the satyr. Like her brother, Lily disliked nonhumans, so she had no qualms about interrupting their conversation, calling," Tatiana? I need a new dress as fast as you can make it!"

Tatiana physically bit her tounge to keep from lashing out at the princess. She just hoped Rowan had heard her before she was interpreted, but she would get the last word. She kept her back to the princess smiling at Rowan. "I'm Sorry, I've got to get going. Up talk later when you get the time." Carefully she turned around giving the young princess a small bow keeping her harsh words to herself. "Yes m'lady. There is just one problem. You have not given me enough money to afford the fabrics i need for all of your dresses. I have other costumers besides the royal family, but i don't have enough money for supplies."

Rowan snorted at the seamstress's note of his lack of shirt.
"I don't wear clothes," He said bluntly. It seemed odd to him that, of all the things he lacked, she seemed to find shirts the most important. He actually owned several. Humans and their insistence that their naked forms were something to be ashamed of; Rowan would never understand it.

"Buttons?" Rowan repeated. It was an easy enough task, but an unusual one. He rarely made such small things. He was about to discuss this further when one of those retched little royal creatures came and interrupted. His ears pinned back in a sign of obvious disapproval. As the seamstress was towed away, he called after her.

"I'll have them done by noon!" He hollered. Buttons couldn't be that hard. The satyr turned to Rose once the company had left.

"Fetch me what's left of the silver scraps, from the kings' last order," He said as he returned to shoveling coal. Already the heat of the forge was making the immediate area around it unbearably hot. Sweat was already dripping down Rowan's forehead, but luckily for him, he was pretty tolerant to heat.
