"nah, i'm okay with staying here if you guys are. we just need to find a relatively empty table," he mused, opening up the brown paper bag that the cashier had placed his sandwich in.
adrian looked back up in mild confusion as ilaria beamed towards the man. when he greeted her using the words "little sis", he visibly relaxed, inferring that the two were siblings. the two exchanged a few words before more people began to surround them, introducing themselves. pinning his gaze on raphael, he shook his head. "rin just now introduced me to ilaria. i'm definitely not her boyfriend," he clarified with an awkward chuckle.
his eyes rolled over the rest of the group. who the hell were these people, and how'd they all know each other? he recognized only a few of them, but the majority of the others were new faces. adrian was glad to find that rin seemed to be equally as confused as he was, and he shuffled back a bit, putting a few good feet of space between himself and the group.
a slow smile spread over his face as rin collected his order. "oooh, is that my muffin?" he wagged a finger towards the bag before scoffing at his comment about saving room for the food. oh please, you know just as well as i do that i'll have plenty of room for that muffin," he grinned, patting his stomach. "plus, i think i accidentally skipped dinner last night, so i'm kind of sort of hungry."
noticing rin's attention had wandered elsewhere, he followed his gaze, spotting a few more faces he recognized, milo's among them. frowning slightly, he fiddled with the straw in his glass of tea. he and milo tended to butt heads a lot, and adrian wasn't necessarily in the mood to argue with someone. he just wanted to sit down and enjoy his breakfast sandwich and muffin. though, he figured that if rin wanted to say hi, adrian could at least try to be nice.
"wanna head over there? it looks less crowded, anyway," he pointed out. plus, nadia was over near milo as well, and she was another person that he could sort of get along with.

xxxxxxIt was an anxious ten, fifteen seconds before someone piped up an answer to her question, and for that, Noelle was thankful. She was going to ask again, thinking they hadn't heard her (and if they had heard her, well, she'd be just as fine to not be next to such a rude bunch of people), but thank goodness for a lady with long blonde hair to reply to her basic question. She shook her head at the woman. "No no, it's alright," she said, sitting down beside a young man with bleached? or greyish? short hair and across from a woman with dark brown hair and, if she could say it, nicely done eyebrows. "Thank-you." she said, waving a hand at the blonde woman, who wasn't seated too far away from her, but was at the booth next to the long table that she was currently sitting at. She felt that joining the blonde woman's group was a little too close for comfort, seeing as she knew none of them-- granted, she didn't know anyone at the long table either, but she wasn't sitting in quite close quarters with them like she would in a squishy booth.

xxxxxxShe looked at the table, giving the ones closest to her a small "hi"; her eyes resting on each person's face for a split second before she looked down at the table, running her hands along the worn wood before wrapping her hands around her tea. She had placed her ballet bag and umbrella by her feet, and she had taken off her jacket so it sat at the back of her chair. She honestly felt the slightest bit nervous, but she could take this opportunity to think of it as her sitting at the same table as ballet dancers when they had mini meetings before a show or a rehearsal. They didn't necessarily have to talk to each other, but the option was literally on the table. She wasn't one to start a conversation, and besides, she didn't know what to say to the people around her. Why start a conversation if it was a bit pointless? To have conversation just to fill a gap of silence? It really wasn't her style. However, if one were to start talking with her, she wouldn't mind it, she'd just need a topic of interest that would keep the conversation going.

xxxxxxEveryone at the tables already had drinks or something to eat with them. Noelle drank her tea, fiddling with the number that she was given before one of the other staff members, Joey, approached her with her croissant sandwich, her salad, and her muffin. "Thanks, Joey," she said, smiling small at him. He was a nice man, around her age who was always respectful and funny. He gave her a wink before saying, "It's nice to see you,". Taking her number, he gave her a crooked smile as he walked over to another table to ask them how they were doing with what they had ordered. Her stomach grumbled the slightest as she wiped her hands on the napkin, more than ready to dig in. It was like being a ballet dancer gave her delicate eating tactics as well, for when she took her first bite of her croissant it was poised and clean; if anything fell out it wasn't like biting into a triple deluxe cheeseburger (not that she ate those, as she couldn't eat much junk food with her regimen).

xxxxxxThe croissant sandwich was delicious, as per usual, and she was glad that she had bothered to wait. It really was unusual to see Edgar's Cafe so busy, but it was mainly because of this large group of people that was around her. She had seen none of them before, and she wondered if they were new to city or something. She didn't think this in regards to her knowing every single person in New York City, as that was ridiculous, but as a frequent customer, she'd learned to recognize quite a few faces in this establishment. With that being said, all of these faces were new, and she wondered if they were here to stay or if they were going to try other cafe's to hang out at. If they were to stay, she'd probably want to drop by at another time, so it wasn't so cramped or busy. She was sure that the cafe loved the extra business, though, as who didn't like to earn some extra money when they could? Eating establishments ran from the support of its customers, and she secretly hoped that these people liked what they were having, so Edgar's could continue to run and thrive.

xxxxxxAs she ate, she did a little bit of people watching, her eyes looking around the quaint building. Not far from where she was sitting was an elderly couple that she recognized-- they came here every Tuesday for lunch, and they'd always sit by the wall that held most of the memorabilia of Poe. They always ordered the same thing; two coffees before the woman would order a spinach and cheese ravioli while the man would order a butternut squash and cheese ravioli. Then they would split each of their plates in half so they could have the best of both worlds, and still get what they initially came here for. After this, they would order a pear tart with a scoop of hazelnut gelati to sit on top, and they'd share that, too. Noelle thought that this was lovely, and in her heart she longed for a relationship such as this-- not just one where she'd share a meal with her partner, but where she'd be able to grow old with her partner like the elderly couple before her did. They still had things to say to each other, which was incredible, but sometimes they'd just sit in silence and that wouldn't be uncomfortable at-all. Perhaps one day, she'd be able to find a love as strong as theirs-- but that was if she was willing to be more open with her emotions.

ooc: sorry ya'll I'm back and this post is a
rough, I just wanted to get her caught up
There were a lot of things Amber wasn't prepared for from the moment she walked out of her apartment, the day itself being one of them. But a shattered phone screen, wet clothes, and a confusing boss were definitely part of the mix. Her boss who continued to confuse her was at the forefront of her mind at the moment, turning to look at him with a gentle smile. "You know, I think you should test those on people who aren't the patrons," She suggested with an optimistic upturn to her voice. Perhaps he'd be fine at mixing things...and perhaps he wouldn't be. "3 sounds good. To teach you how to bartend," She added on with a small giggle. Tending the bar. That sounded more fun, honestly, but whatever. But as their conversation trailed off, Amber allowed her gaze to follow his: one that seemed a bit surprised, even. He knew them. Then Amber squinted.
Roman knew all of them? She didn't even have the opportunity to ask how before she was being pulled away and in their direction. Now, Amber was never the most social creature in her daily life, saving that for the night, so one could only imagine the small squeak that left her lips when she was now face to face with more people than she'd ever seen over here. And even more odd was that she recognized one of them right off the bat, giving him a soft "Hey Rin," in return, eyes moving rapidly between Roman and the other boy she knew-not well, but it was still equally shocking that in a city of over one million people she knew this one, and that Roman knew several, it seemed. What a coincidence truly. She awkwardly fumbled with the hem of her shirt to avoid speaking right away. There was someone else who she swore was familiar, despite not being able to pinpoint who they were or where she may have seen them, brows furrowed. Amber opened her mouth to speak, but didn't do anything further; no words escaped her lips.
A lot of people was fine: in a different space, maybe. Now? Not so much. It felt odd trailing on her boss's heels like a lost puppy, although she was sure her look matched her demeanor at the moment. She almost minded. But it was difficult to do so when everyone was so friendly and outgoing. Ariel was saying something, inviting them to her table, to which Amber offered a gracious smile in return, "Oh, thank you," Her head, however, tilted upwards to look at Roman, waiting to see what he was going to say, because she was not about to sit next to a group of strangers completely alone. he could slip away as he pleased as long as she at least knew he was in her proximity. Amber wouldn't consider herself anxious, except she was remarkably feeble at times, in need of some sort of guidance or reassurance from time to time. She could only imagine how high up the management ladder she probably could have gone had that not been the case.

Nadiaโ€™s eyes flickered to Milo and as she caught the irritated look on his face which only made her grin grow. She shook Ariel's hand, placing a friendly smile on her face as she looked at the blonde girl. Realizing her hand had gotten a little wet, she was about to grab a napkin to wipe the condensation off from the coffee Ariel had been holding, but Ariel had already grabbed her hand and wiped it off for her. โ€œItโ€™s alright. Itโ€™s not a big deal,โ€ she shrugged, pulling her hand away gently when she was all dry. As bold as she could be, she never got mad at someone for a simple accident. Finishing her coffee, and put it down on a table for an employee to come grab, before adjusting the umbrella that was under her arm to be in her hand. She noticed Ariel staring at her, and decided to do the same. The young woman was pretty to say the least. She had bright blonde hair, clear skin, and a singsong voice that sounded like it was touched by a little drop of heaven. Ariel was definitely shorter than her by a couple inches, which Nadia was definitely a little jealous of. She probably also looked like a wreck right now. She cringed internally, until Ariel asked if she wanted to have breakfast with them. A smile grew on her face, and she turned to peek at Milo. He was probably having a stroke inside.

Her head turned in the direction of a new voice. A tall young man came over and introduced someone to Ariel, who waved her cup and spilled some whipped cream on the ground. Nadia smiled at the two before turning back to Ariel and Milo. Milo cleaned the cream off the floor and then made a comment that sounded a lot like an inside joke between the two before winking up at Ariel. A million questions ran inside her head as Milo got up from the floor and sat down at a booth. Nadia allowed Ariel to lead her over to the table as she offered her a part of her cinnamon roll. โ€œOh no thanks. I just had breakfast,โ€ she said apologetically. If she had anymore sweets her dance instructor would probably throw a fit. Her gaze moved to the man who had talked to Ariel before, Roman, as he invited Milo over. Instead Ariel invited Roman and Amber over. As much as Nadia liked meeting new people, all the people in the cafe right now made her head spin. She could feel her headache pounding against her eyelids as the noise got a little too much, and all she wanted to do right now was fall asleep on her bed. She rubbed her eyes, and heard Ariel briefly chat to a woman with a french accent before Amber thanked her for the offer to sit at her table.

Turning away from all of them, she scooted down in case anyone joined them, and put her umbrella at her feet before looking at Milo. She could tell he was getting more and more annoyed the longer she sat with them. Or maybe it was anxiety. Whatever it was, Nadia leaned forward and talked to him. โ€œI have to say, I hear church bells ringing in the distance Atticus,โ€ she whispered to him with a grin on her face, calling him by the name he was called when they knew each other way back when.

roman was the happiest he'd been ever since he was banished to earth. he was surrounded by humans, sure, but he had his fellow angels all around and he instantly felt comforted. now that he was beginning to understand human-angel relationships and human-human interactions slightly more, he was actually excited to visit the bar later with amber and test not only his mastery of liquor but his social skills as well. he was surprised to see that she recognized someone else, and that led him to question just how odd it must have looked that he recognized half a dozen people all at once. he tensed at the thought but was quickly brought out of the anxiety with ariel's offer for the group to join her at the booth. "oh, sure." he nodded and stood, looking to amber for her opinion of the idea.

but before he could make his way over, the tall boy he had beckoned over to him began a, uh. conversation with another patron of the cafe. now, roman was not very well-versed with human references, especially toward recreational pastimes, that much was obvious, but he was an expert at brutal honesty and could sense the hostility in milo's voice as less than friendly. in fact, rome sat back down as quickly as he had stood up and placed a hand on amber's arm. "actually, weshouldjuststayhere," he whispered quickly, his eyes shifting between milo and nadia. "i don't, uh, think they like each other."

The smile from her lips quickly slipped, her face falling. She clenched her fist at Milo's comment, her nails digging into her palms so hard she thought sheโ€™d break skin. She felt her lips turn downwards into a scowl, as she watched him lean back into the booth. Her eyes never left him as she twitched her lips upward, a mask covering her emotions. She could feel angry bubbling under her skin, and shame came slamming into her right after. Her cheeks heated with embarrassment and emotions that swirled around her. She knew that he had said that loud enough that probably everyone in the coffee shop had heard it, so no doubt the people she didnโ€™t even know were already making assumptions about her. Maybe she was in the wrong for calling him that, maybe she shouldnโ€™t have even said anything to him, but she didnโ€™t care anymore. She knew exactly what made him angry, and she wasnโ€™t afraid to make him so.

โ€œDonโ€™t you have friends to lose or something? I figured youโ€™d be out ruining their lives instead of bringing more friends into yours. Or is that what Ariel is here for? So you can ruin her too?โ€ she scowled as she mimicked him and leaned back in the booth, her new york accent drawing out her vowels as she got more angry. If he was going to bring up a secret of hers, why not do the same. She crossed her arms over her chest as she sneered at him, eyes daring him to say anything more as she glared. She wasnโ€™t afraid to make a scene, she didnโ€™t have enough dignity to care what other people thought. She knew he did though, and she didnโ€™t care if she made a fool out of him. He was already doing that by himself. She could feel the eyes of most of the people in the cafe on them but she tried to ignore it as she faced him head on. She wasn't going to back down just because he hit her in a tough spot. Or was she? It didn't matter now, she was already in too deep to take it back, her impulsivity winning once again. She could feel guilt, anger, shame, and embarrassment fuel it as well and it was too late to stop.

(sorry this is kind of short but i uh think the drama makes up for it)

"Three months huh?" She couldn't believe it had only been three months, it had felt like way longer. "Not much. I agree though, the culture shock sure was something." She recalled her first week of living on earth and it was not something she would ever want to relive again. The frustration of realizing she needed a job to get money to then get food and shelter was almost too much to handle given that she had never had to deal with it before. It took her a while, but now that she had a steady source of income, she was doing much better. As she brought her attention back to the cafe, she realized how crowded the area around her had gotten. As if the cafe wasn't full enough. Suddenly, her name was called out, saving her from the growing number of people surrounding her corner of the cafe. She turned back to her companions. "Excuse me for a second."

As she returned with her croissant and hot cocoa,
which smelled heavenly by the way, she noticed the tension building up between Ariel's companion and another girl she had never seen before. The couple exchanged a few spiteful words and she noticed the area around them growing quieter as people dropped their voices so that they could overhear. With a quick glance at Rin, Raphael, and Adrian, she shifted uncomfortably over to where Amber and Ramiel had just sat down. "What'd I miss?" She whispered as she slid into the seat next to the two, making sure to leave room in case anyone else joined. "And uhh, who are they?" She nodded her head in the general direction of the two people. She noticed another girl had joined them at their table and gave a tight smile in greeting. The number of mortals swarming the area was unsettling, surely they couldn't all be her fellow angels' charges.

OOC: oooh I sense tension. also, sorry for the short post.
