Riann awoke with a start, her sleep overcome by stifling heat. She rolled over in the gritty, dry sand and stood up, raising her wings over herself in an attempt to create some shade in the otherwise sun-scorched desert. She failed to remember what had happened between the time that she and Willow had caught the deer and the present moment: it was as if no time had passed at all, though she knew it had. How had she gotten to the middle of the desert? No doubt, this was the work of the scientists, but as to why, Riann couldn't figure out. However, she had more important matters to worry about at the moment: shade and water.

Blinking from the brightness of the sun's light reflecting off the sparkling sand, she surveyed the cactus-ridden land that stretched out around her, searching for anything that could offer some escape from the relentless heat. It wasn't long before her sharp gaze spotted a rocky outcrop jutting out from the horizon. In her injured and near-dehydrated state, it would be a challenging trek, despite the short distance. However, the promise of shade and the possibility of water made it worth the journey. She could try to figure out the whole situation and find Willow later, but for now, her own survival mattered, as she wouldn't be able to carry out either of those tasks if she was dehydrated to death. She glanced around once more, and began to walk towards the lone hill.

She was almost two-thirds of the way there when she noticed another hybrid a few meters to her side, half-hidden by a scraggly bush. She came to a stop and, turning to face them, warily called out, "Hello? Who are you?"
(If anyone wants to interact with Riann, you can have your character be the hybrid she found behind the bush.)

Ash tucked in his stubby tail out of embarrassment in reply to Domo's sharp-tongued response to his idea. "It was just an idea," he murmured. With one foot, he scratched at the ground, but his 2.5-inch long claws barely scraped the hard-packed, sun-baked earth. He huffed: Domo was right, he wouldn't be able to dig very deep out here. Looking back at Domo, he said, "I agree with Alex. If there isn't water at the cliff, then we should find someplace else."

As he finished speaking, his extremely powerful nose caught a wisp of scent. It smelled slightly like dog, but... different, somehow. And it was coming their way, though seemed to be at least out of their range of sight based on the slight weakness of the scent. "...Does anyone else smell that?" He asked hesitantly, scared he had imagined it. ((Sorry for the short post xc))

There was a weak sound of wind hitting a rather dense object, and that object was Alice. She had been soaring in the hot sun to conserve energy, but there wasn't much wind here. Her amber eyes using her gifted somewhat-long-distance vision to her advantage, searching the cactus covered, dry ground that was everywhere. At this point, she was just about ten feet off the ground, not even bothering to strain her eyes further. Alice's legs stopped her from falling forward, and she used her brightly colored wings to shade herself.

Walking awhile further, she found a decently large bush, and a cactus that could help her some. Warily sitting down half way in the shrub, resting her wings as she panted slightly. Though she was only allowed a moments worth of rest before hearing a feminine voice behind her. Alice hurriedly hopped out of the bush, her eyes wide with surprise.

"W-Who are you? She exclaimed literally right after the mystery person asked, her wings fluffed up. Alice's heart beat was already going a tad fast with heat, but that didn't usually happen if she hadn't been moved from the old dome she semi-adjusted too. Now though, it was going fast with surprise and wary, and Alice slightly panted.

Riann raised her own fluffed up wings slightly, an instinctual habit to make her seem bigger and more threatening. "I asked you first," she said with a slight growl to her voice. Her amber eyes immediately went to work sizing this second hybrid up, in case a fight were to break out. The other girl had wings like Riann, though it was obvious that they were put to use much more often than Riann's own, which was definitely to this other hybrid's advantage. However, Riann had claw-like nails, which would certainly be useful. Despite this advantage, however, Riann was considerably weaker than she normally was due to her recent fight with Alex, in which she had lost a dangerous amount of blood as well as injured both of her wings. With this in mind, she lowered her wings slightly to appear less threatening, though kept the feathers fluffed up.

"Y'all got sand in your ears or something?" Dominique asked, confused as to why they seemed unable to grasp such a simple concept. "This is Death Valley. El Valle de la Muerte. There isn't any water out here. anywhere. You'd die of exposure trying to find that oasis, and even if you did, you'd be snapped up and dropped off on the opposite side of the dome within a week. The cliffs give us protection, they keep enough heat in them to keep us warm all night, and that's about all we can ask. If you want water, you'll have to survive off off..."

Dominique trailed off as Ash mentioned a strange scent. Normally, she'd have said it was nothing, maybe even made a comment on her fellow hybrid's own odor. Normally, she wouldn't be a bird-lizard monstrosity having a chat with two fish people, a tiger boy, and a bear dude in the middle of the Mojave desert. But this wasn't normally, and so Dominique was concerned. Unfamiliar smells were dangerous around here. "What exactly do you smell?" She asked. She knew most of the domestics by name now, so if this bear guy had an idea of what animal, or whatever it was, he was smelling, she could hopefully assess the threat level of the situation.

Ash took another sniff, trying to catch the scent again, but he was unable to find it again. "It... It was like dog, but different in a way. More wild, but not wolf. And it definitely was from a hybrid, it smelled like a human too, but not like a separate scent. The canine scent and human scent were mixed together," Ash said, trying his best to explain the scent. As he had been a hybrid for less than a week, the bear's world of scent was completely new to him, and he had trouble identifying scents, let alone explaining them to a hybrid with a less advanced sense of smell.

"Oh, and they're coming this way. But we probably shouldn't be able to see them for another few minutes at least. I think they're alone, too." At least, he hadn't scented another hybrid. However, someone else could've been following behind them or even flying above them, and he just didn't catch their scent. He didn't mention this to Dominique, though, as he didn't want to cause possibly unnecessary worry.

Alice's orange eyes took notice that the opposing female had let her wings down a bit, but it was only a small change. Though it did loosen up Alice a little, she still made sure to be sharp. After all, this girl could be one of those females who are hunting down others.. Deciding a tad suddenly, Alice spoke. "I'm Alice, and may I ask who you are..? Her voice was a bit soft, as she was preparing to take off if needed. Even more so with her decorative, long tail feather being swished a bit more behind her. They often helped her control in flight. Many thoughts ran through Alice's mind, that what happens if they were to get in a scuffle. Alice didn't really have any actual weapons, but her wings were pretty strong due to all her experience with them.

"I'm Riann. ...You aren't a Domestic, are you?" Riann knew how stupid a question this was: if Alice was a Domestic, then it was likely she would say she wasn't. But it was at least worth a shot asking. However, seeing as Alice looked ready to fly off, Riann figured she wasn't here to bring her in. In fact, it seemed almost as though Alice saw Riann as more of a threat than Riann did Alice. She brought her ears up and flattened out her feathers, trying to seem less intimidating. This girl may be able to help Riann survive and find Willow, so it was best not to scare her off. "I'm certainly not one of those scientist's pets, before you ask." She said the word "pets" with bitter disdain, as though it had a bad taste to it.

The feathers on Alice's wings dropped quite a bit at hearing Riann wasn't one of those evil hybrids. Her face somewhat turned softer, and she slightly smiled at the female. Relieved. "That's nice.. I'd thought I would be in trouble if I came against one of those out in this heat, but I would never be one of those Domestics.." She laughed a bit apologetically, her feathers smoothing down at last. Finally, her body also fell into a more comfortable, less intimidating/scared position. Moments after, Alice moved a tad closer to Riann, and asked. "Have you seen any other groups? Maybe they have the attention of the domestics right now.. She slid off-topic a bit to fast, but probably because she was already a tad tired again.

Seeing Alice ease up quite a bit, Riann lowered her wings completely so that they were folded neatly behind her back. "Yeah, it would be hard to keep away from the Domestics out here, but it could be equally as hard for them to bring us in, depending on their DNA. I'd say that out here in the desert, your average hybrid and your average Domestic are pretty evenly matched." Riann was careful not to mention that she was a group one hybrid, for two reasons: first, in case Alice really was a Domestic, and second, so as not to make the girl fly away. Despite her hubris, Riann knew that having a companion could be the difference between life and death, between immediate capture and prolonged freedom. "No, I haven't seen any other groups out here. Hopefully you're right, and the Domestics are busy with someone else right now." If that was so, it meant Riann might have time to set up a makeshift shelter. If she was especially lucky, then the Domestics would be too busy with some other unruly hybrids or have trouble tracking down Riann, which would possibly give her at least until sunset to set up camp.

At Ash's description, Dominique's face grew noticeably darker. The scent he was describing, not dog, but also not wolf, could be any variety of things, but there was one in particular that would mean bad things for at least one person here. She knew they always took three, but she didn't really know any of the others who were in her specific group. Hopefully there wasn't anyone else here that was with her, then she'd just be able to make a break for it, not have to worry about protecting the rest of them. "It wouldn't happen to be a fox scent, would it?" she asked, her legs tensing up in preparation for a quick sprint away if need be. If it was the domestic, she wouldn't have long, especially if she'd gotten her foxy mitts on one of those tranq guns, but she might be able to make it, if she was lucky.
