QUEEN ELYANA
━━━━━━━━━━━━━xOF PANARA!
xxlocation : main hall // age : twenty three // tagged : bran, janythra

xxxxxJanythra let the subject of a Panara heir die of, but Bran did not. Elyana thought that it might have been because he was a man, and it seemed that no man at court had any tact, and that he really had no idea. Elyana did not want to speak of her lack of fertility any more, and she had assumed that the king's deputy would be able to pick up on that. As it turned out, she rather felt like she should have explained it in very simple terms to him, though she did have to admit that Bran had a point. He was the deputy for a reason, she supposed, but that did not stop her from feeling a little irate. "Maybe you are right," she admitted, though her tone was clipped and sharp, "and if I do not think about it, my wishes might come true. But this is not a fairy tale land and Panara needs an heir. I will go to any lengths to ensure my husband and I have a son." She'd heard stories of a lake in the kingdom famed for its fertility, where women who struggled with having children often went. Apparently the waters enhanced fertility and made it more likely for a women to last until full term. But she was not from here, and therefore did not know. I will ask Cyr later, at the tournament. Elyana decided as they emerged into the grounds and the sunlight.

Now was not the time to think of her future children, if they should ever come. Now was the time to focus on the tournament and the alliances it could bring. Her own marriage had been proposed due to a similar event. And what she wouldn't give to be riding out with her husband, instead of this menial task. She was sure it had been assigned to her die to her sex, but once it started she could mingle with the nobles and maybe even sort out a marriage for her sister. Women were, after all, married for alliances, as much as she hated it. In fact, she was meant to be nothing but a brood mare for a stream of children. And that she would not be: she was Cyr's equal in every way. "Bran, do you have any ideas for this tournament? I am afraid that I do not know what it is men prefer at these events other than eating until they can't move and starting brawls." Men were enthralled by the violence and blood at these events - they were so crude. Women were sophisticated, and while the blood was sometimes unsightly, a woman was more used to blood than a man was, whatever they may think.

THE KING'S DEPUTY
Bran McLauren
Twenty-Three
Male
/Elyana/Janythra /

He gave a subtle flinch realizing that she wished to speak no more of the subject of a heir "Sorry my queen." He said respectfully "I stepped where I shouldn't have." He listened quietly willing to help the queen if needed to slip out of the castle without her husbands, his king's, notice. He could see the thoughts in her eyes, he squirmed a bit "as you know your majesty I prefer my books and quiet, I know very little of the typical male desires besides what they find carnal. They do love women I know as much, especially scantily clad." He grunted uncomfortably "men do not really hide what they desire, beer, women, food, fighting. That sums most up." He twitched nose avoiding a sneeze.
And oohhh there's too many people
There's too many people
That walk alone

Too.Many.People.
.Palaye.Royale.

QUEEN ELYANA
━━━━━━━━━━━━━xOF PANARA!
xxlocation : main hall // age : twenty three // tagged : bran, janythra

xxxxxDear God, Bran was weak. A couple of sharp words from her and the man flinched and muttered his apology. He was, at least, respectful, but Elyana became somewhat preoccupied by her thoughts. The woman liked to think of herself as a lioness, a warrior queen, a woman with an iron will. She would not bend to anyone, man or woman, and she would fight for her right to her throne (if it ever came to that) with all the skills she possessed. She was a woman made of stone, a woman with more beauty than the diamonds she wore around her neck and on her ears; she was a woman of winter, an ice queen. She was sharp like icicles, and like the lioness she was under her skin, she had the capability to eat her enemies and break them with her teeth. Those who were weak would be easier, they would shatter under her. Bran was one such person, though she supposed he must have his uses and be good at what he did, otherwise her husband would not have kept him on and would not be paying him for being a loyal deputy. However, he then listened to her, trying not to squirm when she turned her gaze onto him. Elyana was disappointed when he told her what he knew of his fellow man.

xxxxxIt came to nothing. What was she supposed to do with that information? He offered nothing more than she already knew, and it did not help her plan anything. Elyana was not a fool - she knew men liked to see a woman with more flesh than clothes. It was something she had employed once or twice, to get Cyr into her bed. Not that it had ever worked out in the way she wanted. And she would not have women of such slums in her palace or on her grounds, especially not when there would be wives present, too. All she could do was offer good ale and food, and allow them to scuffle when they wished. As long as it didn't get out of hand, she supposed, then everything would be fine and dandy. Besides, maybe a few drinks would give them some luck.

xxxxxAhead, a marquee had been erected in the grounds, with several smaller ones around it, and an area set up for jousting. The benches themselves were being set up as they drew closer. The nobles would be seated, of course, and the common people would have to stand where they could. Some of them may even get trampled by the knights on their steeds, but that would be their fault for not getting out of the way. Glancing up at the sky, the queen took in the cornflower-blue heavens and let her lips twist into a tiny smile. If the weather stayed good, they would be out here for the majority of the day, among the fresh air and the singing birds. In breaks from the entertainment she might be able to make a few turns of the magnificent gardens with her husband. From the looks of it all, everything was coming together nicely and there was hardly any reason for her to be here: these servants did not need her directions. Not if they knew what she was like, which they did. Apparently this was nothing more than a way to get her out of her rooms before the tourney. "It seems we are down here for no reason."

lady janythra tholus
22 years ⋗ hopeful ⋗ talking ⋗ main hall⋗ tagged; elyana, bran

janythra gave a sly little smile as she watched elyana tear into bran. this queen is a storm with skin, she thought to herself. when will men learn that we are made of tougher stuff than they could ever imagine? she brought herself out of her thoughts to hear bran's defense, rolling her eyes dramatically at his attempt to pass himself off as different from every other man they might meet. it had been janythra's experience that men only wanted what the queen had described; enough wine to drink until they were drunk, enough food to eat until they were full, and a pretty woman to entertain them when their brawling was not enough.

janythra's eyes roamed about the grounds where the tournament was being set up and gave a little derisive snort and a nod at elyana's remark about them being needed. "it seems that our usefulness has been cut down, however, it may have been a ploy to simply get you out in the sunshine and fresh air," she said with a kind little smile, trying to make her good-hearted intent know to her friend. "although personally i might have given you a job. cyr ought to know that you'll be pacing like a caged lion for something to do." as her eagle eye continued to pick over the scene, she caught out the sights of yonug boys already starting to mock joust, running at one another with tent poles until their master shouted and scolded at them. she gave a little sigh and shook her head a bit. "good food and ale will keep this lot satisfied, so long as milo and duraal keep the show up," she commented finally, folding her hands on her lap after smoothing out her green skirts.
