catching her comment about the weather, rin gave a nod in agreement. He loved the rain, even when it was thundering. Hearing it was honestly an easy way to get him to relax. He had been deathly afraid of it when he was a child, curling into a frightened ball and crying if the thunder ever got to loud, but his father had always been patient with him when it came to explaining that it was just a noise. Now as an adult, he loved the rain though Bagel would protest at both the smell and the sound of it. βwhereβs that?β, he questioned, raising one eyebrow as he did, βwhere youβre from, i mean, he clarified, realizing he was being a bit ambiguous.
As a child, rin had constantly been on the move. He had lived across europe, across asia and now he had somehow made it to NYC. no matter where he went, the weather always had a time of year where it just made no sense. A place where the weather was constant and actually stayed true to predictions sounded like heaven.
βi was born in shizuoka, japan but i was only there until i was 9β, he said with a slight shrug, though a fond smile did appear on his face. He may have still been really young but he had plenty of good memories to accompany his time in his birth country. Feeling his phone buzz again, rins fingers drummed against the device in his pocket. Was he being rude by checking his phone? She didnβt seem to mind him checking it the first time but he still felt guilty for almost walking into her because of it in the first place.
Feeling his stomach growl, the reminder that the last time he had eaten had been at 5 AM dawned on him. Food was definitely a good idea. On cue, she agreed to his proposal and he perked immediately, βawesome,β he said in a cheery tone, a happy smile spreading across his features. βtheres this little place right across the street and they have the best hot chocolateβ, he informed, nodding as if to further affirm his statement.
Starting to walk towards the location, he pulled out his phone again to see what milo and adrian had responded. Flipping to milo, rin couldnβt help but chew on his bottom lip same place as usual?
β¦
I donβt want to intrude but ill be there
If you need saving from an awkward conversation- im your man
Moving back to adrians contact rins lips ever so slightly turned into a pout
aw dang, i guess this is a good excuse to go to the mall lol
Im glad youβre okay tho *insert the big eye, pouting emoji, aka rin constantly*
Oh btw- i made a friend at the park!! Her name is illaria and shes tagging along
Continuing along the walkway, he shoved his phone back into his pocket. He couldnβt help but give an apologetic look over to the brunette. He didnβt mean to keep checking his phone but the one time it seemed to be active was when he was with another human being. βMy friend is meeting us at the coffee shop if thats alright,β he told her, mainly not wanting her to be surprised when they arrived and presumably had adrian come up to them.
βhave you lived in new york long?β rin asked as they made the short walk, his curiosity getting the best of him. If this wasnβt the weather she was used to then that meant she had to have moved here from somewhere else- ah what a good detective he was. βwhat made ya want to move here?", he quickly added in. everyone always had some aspirations that lead them to new york if they werenβt originally from there and rin loved hearing them. βfor me it was architecture", he added, his tone quieter as he lost himself in thought, memories of his hardships to accomplish what he had flooded his thoughts.
Looking up, he realized they had come up to the little shop sooner than he had expected and outside of it, he could see adrian peeking in through the window. Chuckling at the sight he motioned over to where the other stood. βthats my friend- adrian.. Let me go get him" he excused himself before jogging over towards him. Placing his hands on adrians shoulders he murmured a quiet boo! before chuckling and motioning over illaria. βillaria- adrian, adrian- illariaβ he introduced, bouncing on his heels again, βnow lets go inside because my toes are coldβ he said with tinkling laughter before opening the door for them to both go in.

Species: Human
Assigned Angel: Roman
Location: CafΓ©

Amber laughed softly, tilting her head. "How have you never had the opportunity to drink?" She asked, looking more confused than before. Was the man born in a cellar? Or in a cave far from civilization? And if so, how on earth did a man bound to the woods or something get the people skills to run a bar in NYC? There were a lot of questions swirling around in her head, but maybe Roman was just nervous? She couldn't blame him; she was absolutely terrified. And she could only imagine someone who never drinks walking into a bar in Brooklyn of all places with a staff that all know each other and can tell even the smallest of emotional changes from across the entire space. She watched his features contort and for a brief moment wondered if she overstepped her boundaries already by asking a personal question, "Actually, nevermind. Not my business," She dismissed quickly, voice raising in pitch slightly as she leaned away slightly, wiping her hands on her leggings.
"Uh, you know, drinking before the shift even starts is not normally the way to go," She told him somewhat awkwardly, rubbing the back of her neck and staring down towards her tea. "Maybe a beer or a shot or something. But I'm not letting you mix your drinks. Not like that, anyway," Juices, sure. Clears with colors absolutely not. She refused to be the employee that makes her boss sick, although the idea of watching the poor guy drink their vodka for the first time almost made her amused; it would have if she was confident it wasn't going to kill him. Maybe he'd get a kick out of some of the drinks they make. If the guy never even heard of tequila, she was sure there was a layered drink she could probably make that would confuse the life out of him. Or make a rainbow row: that seemed to blow people's minds on a routine basis. Her mind was already mulling over different possibilities when, hoping to the heavens she wasn't about to kill the poor man tonight.
She tilted her head as the man began to speak again, offering a small smile. "Oh, no, I can't take any...uh, payment," She wasn't sure what else to call it as she gestured towards the muffin and tea, "This is just fine. I mean, I'm not on the clock, and that's kind of, maybe, illegal?" She told him more as a question than a statement. Did this even count as under the table work? Was this a meeting? Geez, she was not the best adult out there at times. "No, well maybe not...? Anyway, uh, no worries," She finally settled on, feeling substantially more awkward than she hoped it would: like she was on a first date in high school trying to figure out if it was a date by who payed, followed by awkward fumbling for a check or something of the sort. She would have felt absolutely terrible taking his money, and immediately felt a bit wary of some of her other bartenders, who would certainly use a question like that to their advantage: 'how much do you want?'. "Thank you for taking the time to chat. It was nice, and again I'm really sorry about being late," She told him with a soft smile and an apologetic lowering of her head.

"Where are you from?" At this question, her heart dropped. If she were being totally honest, she hadn't planned this out beforehand. To make matters worse, she really didn't know much about the US's geography either besides the states and their major cities. "Umm... California," she decided. The state was pretty big, there had to be some place where the weather was steady, right? Hoping her inward panic wasn't present in her voice, she covered it up with a smile. Rin mentioned being from Shizuoka and she raised her eyebrows intrigued, she had never even been to the US before a few weeks ago, let alone Japan. Based on her vague knowledge of Earth, she knew it was an island off the coast of East Asia, but knew nothing of the climate there. Deciding to keep on the weather topic, she asked, "so Japan, what was the weather like there?"
As they walked towards the little coffee shop, she noticed that Rin's phone went off quite a bit. Humans and their techno-
logical devices were strange. She didn't know how they had invented them being as complex as they were. Rin mentioned meeting his friend at the coffee shop and she tried her best to hide the annoyance on her face. Great. Now she was going to have to deal with yet another mortal when she found herself hardly capable of handling one. She had better think of a backstory quickly. As if on cue, Rin asked her a few more questions regarding her being in New York. "I just moved here a few weeks ago actually, so I'm still pretty new to the area." she answered with a small smile. She was pleased with how easily she found herself answering this round of questions. "Maybe you could... show me around sometime?" she asked innocently. Yes. Good one Michael! She held her breath, silently hoping he would agree. If he did, it would give her another reason to see him again, which would get her one step closer to getting back home. She also answered the next question with ease, hoping her answer wasn't too vague. "I don't know really, something just kind of drew me here. I'm glad I came though, New York is beautiful." The last part wasn't really a lie. When she first came to Earth, she found herself staring in awe at the New York skyline. The skyscrapers, Central Park, she fell in love with all of it. Now the people... that was a different subject, but it really was no wonder that Rin thought the same about the architecture. It was strange, but she was actually starting to enjoy spending time with him.
Eventually they reached the coffee shop. It was a lot smaller than she expected, but it did have some charm. It was a quaint little shop on the edge of the block, and looking through the windows, it was rather full. Rin caught sight of his friend and jogged over to get him. He motioned her over and she hesitantly followed. "Nice to meet you." She added a smile, hoping this newcomer was as agreeable as her charge. She chuckled at Rin's comment about his toes being cold and then followed the two inside.

Assigned angel: Raphael βͺ Location: Coffee Shop βͺ Tags: Raphael, Milo, Ariel, All Coffee Shop People βͺFinishing up her donut, she nodded at the question. βYeah. I was born here, and decided to stay. Itβs home I guess,β she said through a tight lipped smile. As much as it was home, it was also the place she wanted to escape the most in the world. Yet so many things chained her to this state, that she didnβt think sheβd ever be able to leave. βChicago. That seems nice, Iβve never been. I heard they have an amazing aquarium,β she said, trying to keep her voice light. She took a sip of her coffee, and tried to ignore how the umbrella she carried was making her hand cramp. Why did Grace even bring it along if it was just going to become sunny in like five minutes. Her attention was drawn to the door as a familiar face walked in with two other people at his side.
Rin was probably the most outgoing person she had met in New York. Ever. He was a total sweetheart and probably couldnβt hurt a fly if he tried. She had met him at a party once, and was probably so far gone she couldnβt see straight, but they became friends nonetheless. The two people at his side she hadnβt met before. One was a woman who radiated intimidating energy, but also seemed to have a warm aura around her as well. The other was a tall man with golden brown skin that she also never seen before. She was about to wave high when another familiar face walked in. She swore under her breath as she caught sight of who it was. She had known Milo for quite some time now, and she could one hundred percent say she found him a little annoying. Though he was an old friend, so it wasnβt like they didnβt get along all the time. Both of them wanted to forget about their past, but seeing someone who knew exactly the type of person she had been and who she was now was a little daunting. Especially since she had only gotten worse.
She turned back to Raphael, and gave an apologetic look for spacing out. βSorry I know a couple people who just walked in,β she said as she turned back to look as another person entered the cafe. A woman with golden blonde hair walked in, and went straight for Milo. They both seemed to be pretty friendly with each other. Interesting. βHey, Iβll be right back. Sorry again! I'll buy you another donut,β she said to Raphael before moving towards Milo and the mystery woman. With a mischievous grin on her face, she stopped right behind them. βHey buddy! How ya doing?β she laughed while slapping his shoulder and grinning as her gaze moved from him to the girl. βWell..Arenβt you going to introduce me to your girlfriend? Iβm Nadia by the way,β she teased jokingly, while holding out her hand to the girl in a friendly manner. They usually had this type of banter, she just hoped he wasn't all cranky like he usually was.
(she's so evil i love it)

indentAs Nadia walked away Raphael realized just how many angels were in that little coffee shop. There were far too many to be coincidence; it seemed God was still looking out for them after all, even in their current situation. He took note of each angel, knowing all of them by name. Aside from Roman, Ariel and Michael had also entered the coffee shop as well. His lips quirked up slightly at seeing his fellow archangel, one of his oldest companions. It would have come as no surprise to anyone versed in theology that Raphael and Michael were close, being two of the most important figures in Heaven. They had been there since the very beginning, part of the first batch of angels ever created, and had been present for Lucifer's fall. They would have went to Hell and back for each other, both literally and metaphorically. He knew following his charge would likely be seen as in invasion of space, especially since they had just met, so he made his way over to Michael. He slung his arm around her shoulder, his small grin morphing into a smirk. "Hey, little sis! It's been a while, hasn't it?" He glanced over at the two humans she was standing with. Was one of them her charge? Most likely. That didn't mean he wasn't going to embarrass his dear sibling a little. "Mind telling me which one of these two gentlemen is your boyfriend so I can give him a stern talking to?" It seemed he had more in common with Nadia than it first seemed. Raphael was one of the few angels who dared tease Michael, not that the other seemed to mind. He was thankful that he and Michael had been vessels with similar traits. While there was an age gap between the two, he could always say that their parents had a lot of children, or that he was only a half-sibling.

adrian sent another text to rin after reading his reply.
yeah, i guess so haha
and okay! lmk when you get here (:!
almost immediately after pocketing his phone, a pair of hands latched on to both of his shoulders, causing adrian to let out a strangled, high-pitched noise of surprise. despite this, he instantly relaxed as he spotted rin, rubbing his eyes as an amused chuckle slipped past his lips. "you scared me so badly," adrian admitted, scratching at the nape of his neck in a sheepish manner.
his hands fell back to his sides as rin introduced him to his friend. he eyed her carefully, surprisingly unsure of what to think. she looked nice enough, though, so he simply offered a small wave. "likewise."
turning back towards rin, adrian's lips quirked up in the ghost of a smile as he mentioned his toes being cold. "well then let's go inside!" he strolled after the two, slipping into the cafe.
his shoulders tensed at the crowded atmosphere, the chatter of other customers ringing loudly in the air. "yikes, who knew it would be this full?" adrian commented with a grimace, glancing towards the long line near the register. his gaze began to wander as the three merged into the line, looking directly across the cafe where a woman was playing the guitar. he instantly recognized her as naomi, who he occasionally ran into when she would perform at various coffee shops around the city. the melody of the instrument was just loud enough to rise above the conversations of everyone in the cafe, yet not so loud to the point where it was distracting. it was nice to listen to, and adrian began to tap his foot to the beat as the line slowly inched forward.
"so you two just met?" adrian's brow arched inquisitively as he looked back towards ilaria and rin. he knew that rin was very easy to get along with, so he wasn't very surprised to hear that the two were already friends. in spite of this, he was still curious.
eventually, they reached the counter, where the cashier enthusiastically greeted them. adrian quietly wondered how she could be so cordial when the cafe was so busy. he knew that he'd be miserable if he were in her shoes, but, then again, he most definitely wasn't a friendly nor social person.
"oh, rin, didn't you say you'd buy me a muffin?" he reminded teasingly, purchasing himself a cup of unsweetened iced tea. he knew he'd be up all night if he got his usual two shots of espresso, but he did need a bit of caffeine in his system, so he was perfectly content with getting tea. he impulsively added a breakfast sandwich to his order after spotting it in all of its glory inside the display case. pulling a few bills out of his wallet, adrian quickly paid before leaning across the counter as his items were handed to him. pausing, he waited for rin and ilaria as they began to order their own food and beverages.
he quickly spun around as another man approached the three, watching in confusion as he flung his arm around ilaria's shoulders. "uh-" he trailed off, unsure of how to respond.

wait, illegal? what even are human laws. with a scoff, roman leaned back against the couch. "okay, forget i even offered." the entire interaction was exactly like what he had heard of 'rollercoasters,' confusingly turbulent, and at the end of it all he felt even more confused about human morals and motivations. did people not work for money? were services not usually paid for? he really should have brought a notebook with him. perhaps the timing of payment was the flaw. maybe the way he offered it? he would look into it more, perhaps with a different human. he supposedly had more employees than just amber, so surely he could practice all night at the bar. "i still want to practice the mixing. i don't really care how they taste, but we can use customers as test subjects to see if i'm any good at it." with a confident nod, he glanced at his phone screen for the time. it was nearing 12:30pm. after some quick calculations, he turned back to amber, "no need for the apology. at least you showed up, right? i'm thinking we can meet at the bar around 3pm and you can show me how to bartend. tend? tend the bar?" he shrugged and pocketed his phone. "i'll go with 'tending of the bar.' i know it's primarily your job to do that but i should really get some practice in, i think."
as he made up his mind, the cafe began filling up with not only more people, but definitely more angels. roman's brows furrowed as he eyed ariel and michael, surrounded by humans. he pouted. how come i don't get along that well with my human?? he huffed and nearly crossed his arms before remembering his company. "oh. sorry, i, uh, know those guys." he offered a sheepish glance at amber and directed her gaze toward the few people by the counter. raphael soon joined them and roman nearly smiled. "and suddenly, it's crowded. i should introduce you." without waiting for her response, he stood and dusted off his jeans. after a quick breath to settle his stupid mortal nerves, he approached the front of the cafe, sidling up beside raphael.
"what are you doing bothering these people?" he sucked his teeth playfully, shaking his head as if he were an older sibling or even parent. he was happy to see more angels around, but couldn't help noticing the multitude of humans. he gave a quick nod to rin, nadia, milo, and adrian, then turned back toward amber. "this is amber. she's a very good employee of mine and we'll be at the bar later if you want to stop by." with an almost imperceptive smile, he gestured toward his fellow angels. "you met raph earlier. this is ariel, and that's ilaria. some old friends of mine."
