Nathan sat down in his seat, and luckily Viv followed him. He had been afraid that she wouldn't, especially with Hunter around. He stretched in his seat, getting comfortable. Just because he was comfortable didn't mean he couldn't learn, right? Ever since the Tournament started, he was finally beginning to feel some hope. He had just made a new friend, and she seemed to be a promising one. Hunter also seemed like a potentially good friend; after all, they did share a common interest. He turned to say something to Vivienne, but she seemed concentrated on what Mrs. Weasley was writing. Today, they were to learn about acromantulas, Kelpies, Erklings, and Dementors. He had no idea why, and the creatures weren't at all related. Well, other than the fact that they were dangerous.

He turned to Viv to make sense of this. He had no idea what Erklings were, but he figured she would have a good sense of what they were. After all, not even Ravenclaws knew everything! This would also give him a good excuse to talk to her. Ever since the morning in which they had become aquatinted, he had begun to like her. Nathan had never had a crush in his life, so he had no idea how to make sense of it. She was rather attractive, as well as intelligent and friendly. More than her looks, he felt himself more drawn to her personality and smarts. Unfortunately, he had no idea if she felt the same. There were so many other boys that were better than him! Finally, he said,"Do you know what Erklings are? I unfortunately, have no idea."

While he waited for her to respond, he watched her flip open her Fantastic Beats book. She was very knowledgeable on all of the different creatures in their world, and she seemed to live and breath this book. I was battered and weathered. The edges were crinkling, there was a big stain on the front, and the bind was just held together by some Spell-O tape. She and this book had been through a lot together. There was always the possibility that it was a used book, but he was leaning toward the first option. Although he hated seeing damaged books, he enjoyed the sight of this one-it had been well used.

He turned to her to answer her question. For a moment, he allowed himself to gaze into her bright, blue eyes. He felt a blush overtake him, and he quickly said,"I'm not sure. There is a large possibility that they will send us into those death traps!" he laughed nervously. "Seriously though, I think if they sent us in there, it'd probably in searc of something. Or perhaps defeating one of those creatures. I'm not sure, but whatever they have planned, it'll be hard." He sighed, feeling a bit nervous again as he thought of the dangers. He was quickly able to push away his fears though. Vivianne believed in him, and both of the smart Ravenclaws were going to be able to get through this!

His attention was drawn to a semi-loud thump. Lyssa, a shy Hufflepuff had just bumped into Phoenix's table. "Ooh," he winced in sympathy. "Right into the snakepit." He meant this literally; most Slytherins were known for their nasty temper and personality. He was about to rise to help out Lyssa, as Nathan hated bullies. When he was around Viv, he felt an extra boost of confidence and bravery. Still he decided not to. Lyssa was invited to sit with her, and it looked as if Genevieve had her back. After a moment of silence, he said,"I feel like my biggest threat will be the other contestants themselves," he mused as he surveyed them all; quite a few were unfriendly, and the others seemed kind but competitive. Everyone wanted to win.

Roderick jumped at her sudden appearance, and muttered a slight curse. "Oops, sorry!" she said with a small laugh. "I didn't meant to startle you!" Genny had a way of coming up behind others quickly and surprising them. However, it was not at all intentional. She just wanted to talk to others, and she took quite a random way of doing it. Roderick's response was short, and kind, but somewhat put off and unenthused. "Really, are you sure?" she questioned. He still seemed put off at the incident this morning that had drawn out a negative response from her and her peers. She knew he had only been joking, and he seemed quite dispirited. She felt somewhat guilty of giving him a bad look.

He changed the topic with his response of the tournament. Like many others, he had no idea what to think. It was like the whole world had been placed in his hands. Still, he said he was eager, and that was all that mattered. "That's good that you aren't scared or anything! A couple of people are, though I can't say I blame them!" Eventually, they reached class. Roderick took a chair closest to the front and near the windows. Instinctively, she stuck with him. Even better yet, her table was right in front of Lyssa's. A Slytherin girl named Phoenix seemed to be giving her a hard time. She turned around and flashed Lyssa a smile. "See? Told you I'd sit near you!" she laughed. She searched the Slytherin's eyes and offered a smile, but it was also a warning. Genny would not become hostile at the moment, as it was not her nature. She was going to give Phoenix a chance. However, if she did anything to mess with Lyssa, she would have Genny to answer to. Even though it didn't loo like it, Genny had several nasty charms up her sleeve. After all, she felt quite fond, friend-wise, over Lyssa, the shy contestant. No one liked bullies anyways or watching others get bullied.

She decided to start off on a fresh leaf, and outstretched her hand to the Slytherin girl. "Hi, I'm Genny," she said with a smile. "Nice to meet you!" Maybe by being nice to her, they could warm up. Genny had never been friends with a Slytherin. Maybe she could be the first? She turned to face Roderick, wanting to engage him in the conversation too. "Those look like pretty dangerous creatures... Think they'll be involved? Oh, have you seen Hunter? Maybe he'll want to join us." If he did, then all of the Hufflepuff would be together. She knew she was Hunter's companion, and other than seeing him this morning, she knew little about him. That needed to change if they had any chance as a working pair!

"I dunno, don't snakes usually have fangs?" Valkyrie's tone threw the Slytherin contestant slightly off-guard. Was she... flirting with him? Or poking fun? Xander couldn't be sure, but it was definitely one of the two. Her accent leaked through her words and he had to admit that it was kind of attractive.

Even when Ms. Weasley cleared her throat to begin the class and Valkyrie turned to her books - typical Ravenclaw, Xander thought - he kept his eyes trained on her, observing her. He couldn't see her eyes, as her long dark hair was shielding her from the rest of the room, but her thin body was poised in such a manner that he couldn't help but find her attractive. She was clearly ready to learn and, as much as Xander hated keeners and learning himself, he couldn't help but admire the Ravenclaw girl's willingness. Then, he remembered that he was competing against her.

He shifted over to her all the same. Perhaps she would come in handy over the course of the tasks and then he would be able to discard her after he'd won. He was used to getting rid of people once he'd used them. Clearing his throat slightly to make sure Valkyrie knew of his presence, he leaned over her book with her. "I left my textbook in my dormitory - mind if we share?" Xander kept his stormy eyes on her, observing her reaction. Deciding to play more into her Ravenclaw mindset, he added, "I have to admit that I've been having a hard time with this creature stuff in Dark Arts, maybe you could straighten it all out for me?" If there was anyone who knew anything about what they were learning, it would be a Ravenclaw.

The clever Ravenclaw girl's head was spinning with all of the task-related ideas that were going through her head. There was a multitude of things the professors and judges could have thought up for the tasks and each one of her ideas was more dangerous than the last. She wouldn't admit it, but she was glad that she was just a companion and not a contestant. Advising was something she was good at; actually carrying out that advice was not.

"Right into the snakepit," she heard Nathan say and her blue eyes strayed to where his own were focussed. Sure enough, Lyssa had bumped into Phoenix's table. Vivianne knew that Phoenix was not all that scary, especially once you talked to her, from the few times she had joined her in the library. The Slytherin girl just appreciated being alone and seemed to prefer her own company to that of any other person.

Shifting her eyes around the classroom, Vivianne noticed that Valkyrie, the other Ravenclaw contestant, had joined Xander and Beckett at their table at the back. Elbowing Nathan lightly in the side, she nodded towards that table. "Wonder what that's about?" she asked. Xander was leaning over Valkyrie's book with her and his usual sneer was not on his face. He actually looked genuinely interested in what was in Kyrie's book. Vivianne wrinkled her nose.

Deciding that people-watching was useless in the overall scheme of things, Vivianne turned back to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Remembering Nathan's earlier question, she flipped through the pages in search of Erklings. Before she could find the page, however, Ms. Weasley's voice invaded her thoughts: "Today's assignment consists of partner work. I want everyone to work together to put together notes of these four creatures. The place of origin, a description of its appearance and the best ways to protect yourself against each off these should be included. You have the rest of the class period to do so; it will be for homework if you are not finished by the end. You may start now."

Vivianne half sighed in relief that today's class would not be a lecture and half felt annoyed that Ms. Weasley was not providing them with extra information about the creatures. Turning to Nathan, she gave him a bright smile. "Would you like to work with me?" Already her quill was in her hand and a fresh piece of parchment was before her. With the two of them working together, they would have a set of notes together in no time.

Lyssa May Hartley
❀The Shy One❀Age:17❀Hufflepuff Contestant❀No Crush❀Single❀Current Location: DADA❀Tagged-Phoenix, Nathan & Genevieve❀

At Phoenix's question Lyssa felt her cheeks flush a darker shade of crimson, she heard Nathan and turned to him with wide eyes pleading for help. Turning back to Phoenix, she gave the girl a wary smile as she sat down, "Thanks," Pulling out a quill from her pocket, and a notebook from inside her robe, the Hufflepuff shifted uncomfortably in her seat. When Phoenix spoke again, Lyssa jumped slightly, regretting sitting with the Slytherin's immediately, she wasn't biased against them, and thought that everyone was different, but she felt intimidated by the other girl. Her smile put Lyssa at ease a little though and she quietly responded, "I think it'll be a good chance for Hufflepuffs to show what we're made of. But..I wish I hadn't of been chosen, I'm a little nervous." She shut her mouth abruptly, realising she'd said too much.

As Genny sat down, Lyssa shot her a thankful smile, and looked at the board. With a frown she realised she didn't know the link between the things, and she sighed. The girl hated it when she couldn't understand things; she felt like she was fulfilling the Hufflepuff stereotype that her housemates fought so hard to get rid of.
