Blair Strong I Werewolf I Fighter I Tags; Sebastian, Genesis
She smiled weakly in return, exhausted and freezing and still wearing Adam’s coat. He’d run off into the storm without a jacket. She shivered, despite the warmer temperature of the building they now stood in, and looked out one last time into the woods before she shut the door, but there was no sign of him.
“Don’t thank me. He’d have come around eventually,” she lied, hopefully convincingly, looking past Genesis and Sebastian towards the main, permanently empty, living room and gesturing them towards it.
“Straight down the hall, second door on the right. You can dump your wet outer clothes in the basket by that door, if you want. They’ll probably get washed eventually. We’ve got plenty of old clothes in Skylar’s attic, so we’ll find you something else. No problem.” Eyeing up Gen even as she said the words, she added, “in fact, Genesis, you’re about the same size as me. Maybe a couple of dress sizes smaller,” she continued, looking down at her own chubby figure with a small sigh, “but close enough. I’ll go home and see what I can find, and if you want you can take your pick from that. Just until you can get some more stuff of your own.”
She gestured to another door, still walking as she talked.
“Kitchen is that way. Help yourself to anything in the cupboards, but don’t let Adam catch you doing it.”
Adam. She sighed again, and in regard to Genesis’ later question, which she’d been trying her best to ignore, she sat down once they reached the living room and looked them both in the eye. Tried to.
“He’s not. Adam turned up on the border of our territory some time ago. Just like you guys. The Alphas decided to take him in. The Beta, Skylar, took a real liking to Adam and took him under her wing. He sort-of became her right-hand man. Then Skylar got hurt – really, really, really badly hurt – and he was the only one with any sort of authority left. So we all kinda looked to him for orders. He doesn’t really have any idea what he’s doing, I don’t think. And Skylar getting hurt has really, really upset him. He was already so upset when the Alphas got killed. Poor guy really doesn't need his... girlfriend, I guess, dying too.”
She shook her head.
“I don’t know anything more, Genesis. I’m sure he’d tell you if you asked him enough times, but personally, I’ve never really cared, you know? That’s not my business.”
Jason Loen I Werewolf I Medic I Tags; Mark, Aurora
It hurt, more than anything, to not be there when he knew his packmates needed him.
Cursing Aurora's name under his breath as they moved and carefully put her in the back of the borrowed land rover, still muttering angrily and shaking his head as he ran to open the barn door, Jason practically sprinted back to the driver's seat and hauled himself up and into the cab of the vehicle with a grunt of effort.
"damnit, Aurora, what were you thinking?"
Flashing Mark an apologetic look - sorry or dragging you into this, by the way - he moved the car into first gear and eased it out of the wide opening now ahead of them.
"It was probably a cocktail of drugs we call Amex in Jasper ER. Couldn't tell you what's in it, off-hand, or the trade name, but it's fairly long lasting. Half an hour, I'd guess. Maybe more, maybe less. But she'll be pretty wobbly for another half-hour after it begins to wear off, so we should be fine. Or I'll be fine. Whatever."
He sat there in silence for the rest of the short trip, only making another sound when he spotted the blue pick-up he assumed was Mark's parked at the size of the road... and the battered-looking black SUV barely twenty yards further away.
Jason inhaled sharply.
"You.. recognise that car, pal?"
