    ☼ human ☼ angel: michael ☼ michael,milo,adrian ☼ ❝gaaahh- dont make this awkward❞ ☼

with his cheeks only darkening further, rin took an awkward step back, his pulse quickening. his eyes quickly flicked across michael's face, trying his best to gauge her reaction while simultaneously praying she wouldn't get mad at him. this was new york after all- there had been plenty of times he had seen tourists get yelled at for something as simple as not standing on the correct side of the escalator so almost running into someone was fair game for getting scolded by a stranger.

ringing his hands together, he gave her another sheepish smile as she poke up. thank god- she wasn't angry. it seemed like she had just been as caught off guard as he had been. "no, i was on my phone, i should've been paying more attention..." he said with a slight head shake, "my little sister always tells me i have the spatial awarness of a puppy" he said with a chuckle. biting his lower lip, rin hoped he hadn't just over-shared with a stranger who probably didn't care. he could definitely hear yuki's voice in his head already teasing him, rin- she doesn't care, just pay attention she would've said while giggling at his flustered nature.

he was surprised to see her stick her hand out and introduce herself, having figured she would have already left after he apologized. "oh! its nice to meet you", he said, a tinge of excitement in his voice at the prospect of making a new friend. "im rin," he added, taking her hand into his and giving it a light shake before shoving it into his windbreakers pockets, realizing that his fingertips were freezing. "the weather's funky today" he mumbled absentmindedly, gaze lifting to the clearing sky.

feeling his phone buzz in his pocket, rin wondered if it would be too much to check it considering it had almost been the reason why he could've run into illaria. rocking back on his heels, he turned his gaze back to the brunette before giving her a timid smile, "sorry" he murmured as he pulled out his phone to see that both adrian and milo had bother answered. opening up milos text first, he smiled to himself, not surprised that he was able to distinguish milos outline.
      dang im good
my crap vision didnt fail me for once
i kept walking because i saw you talking to someone and i also wasn't sure if it was you.... im still in the park though if you wanted to get a coffee or something (:

quickly flipping over to adrians text message, he frowned slightly at reading that he had fallen into a puddle.
      should i bring bandaids? ;(
im thinking of going to the bakery- the one on the east corner of central park ? i can buy you a muuuffiin

hitting send, rin quickly shoved his phone back into his pocket, rocking on his feet again. "i know i almost ran you over by accident, but if you're not too busy, maybe i could buy you a pastry to make up for it?", he asked, the color not leaving his face. he hoped that he wasn't coming off as flirtatious and rather friendly but he couldn't be too sure. running a hand through his white hair, he let his gaze move across the park behind illaria instead of looking at her.

ooc; goose is so cute!! i debated naming her pasta instead lmao

he moved back over to imessage as a reply from rin brightened his screen up a bit. adrian snorted softly as he read the text, quickly typing out a response.
no haha, i'm okay. i think i tore my jeans, though ):
and that sounds good! i'll start heading over, should be there in around ten minutes.

pocketing his phone, adrian placed the tub of ice cream back into the fridge, much to his cat's disappointment.
he was delighted to discover that the rain had somewhat stopped as he exited his apartment complex for the second time that day. the smell of petrichor lingered in the air, bringing adrian's happiness up a notch or two. now that he wasn't in a rush to get groceries, he could take a much more leisurely walk. his shoulders sank forward in relaxation as he ambled down the sidewalk, side-stepping puddles. the last thing adrian wanted was to humiliate himself once again in front of an attentive crowd of people.
because his apartment was on the west side of central park, he'd have to cross back through the park in order to reach the cafe. unfortunately, there wasn't a direct path that would take him diagonally across the entire park, so he'd have to cross over onto multiple trails. though, adrian didn't quite mind. the park was gorgeous at this time of year, and he liked to listen to the birdsong in the trees overhead. plus, there were always leaves on the sidewalk that he could step on, most of which held a very satisfying crunch.
it ended up taking adrian a total of seventeen minutes to reach the cafe instead of ten. he'd gotten a bit distracted at one of the ponds, where he'd spotted an old, rusted gumball machine repurposed to hold fish food. a handful only cost a quarter, so adrian figured that he might as well, and ended up spending an extra four or so minutes tossing the little pellets into the water. he only hoped that he hadn't kept rin waiting.
approaching the quaint little coffee shop, he peered through the tinted windows, trying to see whether or not his friend had arrived before him.

ooc: i'm glad you guys like goose lol!! and omg, the names bagel and pasta are both equally amazing

Re: [β˜… ─── Amber 5 ]

Amber Ollison
Species: Human
Assigned Angel: Roman
Location: CafΓ©

Amber still held her mug tightly to her chest, head tilted ever so slightly as she gingerly put the ceramic back up to her lips. It was quite amusing to her, actually, that this man had managed to get a gig with a bar while remaining perfectly sober. Though she had to say in a city as stressful as this, it was almost impressive. And hey, at least he was good-natured about admitting it. He drank his coffee the same way it seemed like she did, a bit more for the sake of filling the gap being a near complete stranger created than the taste at some moments. Amber could immediately see the redness to his cheeks and bit the inside of her own. "No worries," her hand almost instinctively reached out to lay on his arm reassuringly, "I think a lot of people need to do that," Amber explained in reference to his perceived long-standing sobriety. Dark eyes lingered down to her hand and she immediately jerked it away in favor or picking at a piece of the muffin he'd given her.
"Oh, yeah. Sure thing," Amber nodded at his proposal, clearly not having registered the words he said right away, or more importantly that one of those things plain didn't even exist. It took her a moment; just as she picked up her mug she froze with it in her hands, turning to look at him with furrowed brows but an amused smile spreading across her lips. "A little early could be great. I can point out the beers, tequila, and all else," She stressed the word he got wrong, not having it in her to correct him directly on that one. "Were you raised really religious or something?" Honestly, she didn't know how to justify the man never having even touched or heard of these foundational drinks to, like, all of adulthood; perhaps he was just really, really, sheltered. But that wasn't something she could propose without sounding...not favorable. And definitely fireable.
His next question, however, Amber actually considered. Because, really, what was the point? She'd definitely heard quite the colorful array of justifications for a bar trip in her days, and perhaps he did have the answer for some. But not in the way he was thinking. "Well, like, hangovers are terrible. People want to have fun at night, but not feel like they're flying through Dante's Inferno the next morning, you know?" Amber sort of grimaced at herself after a brief moment; if the guy didn't know what tequila was, she wasn't confident he'd know what on earth she was talking about. "Hangovers are awful. Everyone says they won't drink anymore ever after them, but then they come back to the bar, like, the next week. I think a lot of people like themselves better when they are like that. Or they just care less, and don't realize how sloppy they are," Amber giggled, "It's funny sometimes. You would get a kick out of it,"

"i'm not religious, no." roman nearly laughed at the question. religion was a human thing ── if anything, he was one of the things they prayed to. he didn't quite get it, either, since so many of them blatantly drank wine in church, and he was 100% sure wine counted as alcohol. 110%, even!

"i just don't...like to drink? actually, i'm not sure if i do or not. the opportunity never really came up," he shrugged and downed the rest of his coffee. "but i guess that'll change when we get to the bar later. i wanna know what it is my patrons are imbibing so eagerly every night." at this, he felt almost a sense of responsibility. as manager, it was his duty to supply customers with quality beverages and bar snacks. or, it wasn't? did humans like good drinks or terrible ones? from amber's description, it seemed they simply wanted to feel terrible afterward. but was that a result of drinking good alcohol or bad alcohol? was it the worse the drink, the better? why even drink?? he shook the frustration out of his mind and off of his features, which were beginning to crinkle and furrow as he tried to understand why people peopled this way.

it was probably even harder on amber, having to deal with someone who was essentially a baby masquerading as an adult as far as social skills went. he had to figure out a way to make it up to her before scaring her off, especially since he was only just getting started in his journey of understanding humans, let alone guiding one past the temptations of life. he needed an incentive of sorts. money, perhaps? yes! money! she was his employee, he the employer. surely this was the in he needed to reward her for her efforts without coming off as a "sugar father" or whatever it was he saw that one (and only) time he scrolled on someone's instagram page. "i know this probably isn't what you expected, what with my knowing absolutely nothing about the world of alcohol despite managing your bar now, but i wanted to thank you for your patience and everything. how much do you want? or should we do this when we get to the bar? i can probably make change there."

Michael watched with amusement as Rin awkwardly tried to make conversation. He was constantly shifting his feet and didn't really make direct eye contact with her. She wasn't sure why he was nervous. Maybe he was intimidated by her? She tended to have that effect on people. Despite his awkward nature, he was certainly much friendlier than any of the other humans she had met recently. "I actually didn't mind much, I enjoyed the rain." She responded with a small smile on her lips. She gazed up at the sky for a moment with slight disappointment. The clouds were receding quickly. "Where I'm from we don't get this much change in weather." she added, a hint of sadness in her voice. She desperately missed Heaven despite how frustrated she was at God and everyone else who she felt had turned their backs on her. It was hard not to; it was all she had ever known. Not to be egotistical, but she also felt vulnerable without the power and prestige she had once had. However, the thought of fading away, along with all memory of her, scared her more than anything.

Then, Rin's phone buzzed, snapping her out of her thoughts. She really ought to stop getting so distracted. He apologized and she nodded at him as if giving her permission for him to answer it. As Rin replied to the message, she found herself surprised at how easy he was to talk to. He also didn't strike her as someone with ill-intent. But then again, perhaps he was one of the few good people she believed there to be in the world. She was even more surprised when he offered to buy her food. This was perfect! Now, she had the chance to build a connection, making her job a whole lot easier. If she were able to establish a friendship of sorts, then she would be able to better keep an eye on him. It really was a lucky day. "I think I'll take you up on that."

Assigned angel: Raphael β–ͺ Location: Coffee Shop β–ͺ Tags: Raphael β–ͺ

She scrunched up her nose in fake disgusts, her corners of her lips tipping upwards. β€œI can see why. Green tea donuts probably wouldn’t be my choice of food in the morning,” she said. She moved the umbrella to her other hand once again as he held out his hand and introduced himself as Raphael. She took his hand and shook it firmly, before placing both her hands in her pockets and introducing herself as well. β€œI’m Nadia. Interesting name..I mean yours, not mine,” she laughed. Honestly she could probably name five people who would cringe with awkwardness if they talked like her, but she never really minded talking to people. In fact, she was quite confident in her social skills. It filled her with a kind of energy that sparked through the tips of her toes and fingers, to the center of her brain, and made her feel all kinds of alive. Maybe it was because connecting with people gave her hope about the world, or maybe it was just because she was so stupidly lonely all the time, but it helped. At least a little, especially when she wasn’t stumbling into parties and introducing herself half wasted.

She took in his appearance, the black hair, and leather jacket. Was he a biker or something? She couldn’t judge too much. She didn’t look too put together either. Her hair was probably a mess, and the only thing keeping it from going full crazy was the ponytail she had scooped it into. Sometimes she really wished for hair that corporated. She didn’t have curly hair by any means, and she had no idea how Grace did it, but her hair did get quite wavy sometimes. And today was one of those days where she just happened to look like a witch coming out of a swamp. Her eyes were probably a little bloodshot from being hungover, and she didn’t even bother with makeup in her rush out of the apartment. But she didn’t really care at this point. Honestly she had embarrassed herself enough times that if she went outside in only her underwear it wouldn’t even faze her. Nadia couldn’t figure out if that was a good thing or a bad thing, but at least she was confident in herself. Sometimes.

Her phone again buzzed in her pocket, but her eyes flickered to the counter as the employee came back and she forgot all about it. Putting the umbrella under her arm, she took her donut and her coffee before sending a thank you smile towards the woman. She turned back to Raphael, and took a bite of her donut before swallowing and asking Raphael a question. β€œSo have you been here before? It seems a little empty. The donuts are wicked good though. My roommate brought me here and well. Left,” Nadia said fiercely, her new york accent showing a bit and dragging out her vowels a tad as she got frustrated. She usually was told she didn’t really have an accent, but once in a while it showed up. Especially when she got irritated. She glanced away and took a sip of her coffee, the warmness calming her down a tad. "Are you from here? New york, I mean," she said while sipping her coffee.

indentRaphael took in her appearance, having to fight back the frown tugging at his lips. She looked like a mess, eyes bloodshot and clothing disheveled. She looked like she hadn't gotten a good night's sleep in a long time. It made his heart hurt, as he had been told she was quite the dancer, and was even working towards a career as one. If she was really that good, she was wasting her potential. If she kept this up, she could kiss her dream of being a dancer goodbye. He had to help her, for her sake as well as his own. He snapped out of his thoughts, realizing he hadn't answered her question yet. He rubbed the back of his neck with a laugh. "Me? Nah, I'm not from around these parts. In fact, I just moved her a few months ago from Chicago." That was the cover story he had decided on. After all, a believable cover story would mean the difference between life and death for him. If his employer found out his documents were forged her could be fired, or worse arrested, and that would put a stop to his mission. He could not afford to take such a risk when there was so much on the line.
indent"What about you? You a New York native?" The angel asked, taking another bite of his doughnut. It was sweet with a hint of bitterness, not overly sugary like most pastries were. Since his fall, Raphael had made it a point to try as many human foods as possible, no matter how odd they may appear to be. One of the few perks to being human was having taste buds and experienced the wide array of flavors their world had to offer. He found that he had become partial to spicy foods, though he was also a big fan of breads and pastas. His only rule was no meat; he could not bring himself to harm an innocent animal just for a meal, especially when there were countless other options available to him.

After a few questions about how to contact Dominique, the producers and director excused her. Minnie smiled as she left the theater. She was going to go back to her apartment, but realized she hadn't had breakfast. She saw a cafe a little ways down the street. She decided she'd get some pastries. She walks into the cafe, the little tingle of a bell announcing her arrival. She was surprised by how many people were in the cafe.

She walks up to the counter, the pastries in a glass display box. She bites her lower lip, craving some sugar. "I'll take a cake pop, a chocolate croissant, and a blueberry scone." She points to the individual pastries as she orders. She was in a good mood. She felt like that audition went really well. She rubs her hands together in anticipation, and pays for the pastries. She takes them to a table next to a man and a woman. She caught a bit of their conversation, each of them asking where the other was from. She minds her own business though.

It had been quite lonely since she had moved here from Miami for college. The best part about it, though was that she didn't have to pay a cent for anything. It made things a lot easier. She would eventually pay for everything, but she had to get a job first. Her parents have been scolding her to go back to school and study for a real career and not her "hobby". She hated that they called her passion that, but they were paying, so she kept her mouth shut. She takes a bite out of the chocolate croissant and savors it.

indentalthough milo had a smile on his face, ariel could sense that there were some other thoughts running rampant in his head. she was good at reading body language and more importantly, her acute senses she hadn't lost when she was banished to earth helped her a lot with that. she could sense that something was bothering him but she was not sure what. she found herself analyzing potential scenarios. was he in pain? maybe she could help. she was almost tempted to observe him and if she knew him better, she'd probably be stalking around him in circles trying to figure out if a body part was paining him. she did not like when others around her were in physical pain. she always felt the need to help. she didn't think that was the case, though. a lot of humans tend to be vocal when they're not feeling well. had she said something wrong, something that rubbed him the wrong way? she wasn't sure. all she said was that she'd have to drop thunder off at her apartment. maybe he thought she was going to flake out on him? she knew that sometimes, humans aren't truthful with one another. her roommate has told her multiple times how she'd sometimes give men fake phone numbers or flake out on arranged dates and it did not make much sense to ariel. it's one thing for someone to do something because they fear their own safety but why not be upfront if the situation is not dangerous? if ariel did not want to get coffee with milo, she'd politely decline and be on her way.
indentbut she knew her straightforward, transparent way of thinking is not one shared by most humans. many of them seem to play games by each other and hurt one another for no good reason. a part of her couldn't help but wonder if milo had been hurt in such a way by someone else. blah! why did she always think these things? she was way too analytical with people she only knew for not even an hour. nobody wanted a stranger pestering them about such personal things. yet ariel was always on the look-out, always sensing some sort of inner pain or trauma within most humans she meets. it was alarming, how much weight they tend to carry in terms of trauma that stems from a variety of reasons. that's why if one opens up to her, they should probably brace themselves for a wave of therapeutic and salubrious conversations because ariel was very much a 'get down to the point' type of person.
indentshe looked dubious at his joke, which only seemed to make things even more awkward when he tried to backspace against his own joke. it's not the first time someone has told her that. thunder was large and could be a hassle for someone as short as ariel but she loved the dog and his size was not enough to deter her away. still, he could probably rip her arm out of its socket if he wanted to. ripping her arm out of her socket... what would that even feel like? hmph. nevertheless, there was a certain awkwardness between them that would hopefully melt away soon. she wasn't sure why it was even there, but it was like they couldn't talk to each other without messing up. that, and it seemed that no matter how many steps they took away from each other, they ended up gradually gravitating to a closer degree. ariel was usually pretty decent at conversations apart from trying to get past the grueling small talk - she was more of a deep, why did you turn out the way you did and how is your relationship with your parents - type of talker. not that everyone was like that or even wanted such questions thrown at them. still, she didn't know why it was rather awkward between them. hopefully it would go away soon.
indenthe had gestured to a coffee shop across the busy street. "i think it might be best if you went on ahead to the coffee shop so you're not stuck out here waiting for me. i should only be probably ten minutes, i'll just drop thunder off at home and head right back down here to meet you in there," she told him reassuringly. she didn't know if he thought she was going to throw up a peace sign and then head off, never to be seen again but she hoped he had some sliver of trust in her. she was a stranger to him, yes so she wouldn't be surprised if he was hesitant but ariel wasn't like that. she knew she couldn't bring thunder in with her to a business, though so she'd have to drop him off at home. it was only a short walk away, though and she didn't want milo sitting out here in the sun waiting for her. it gets uncomfortable standing in the sun after a while.
