that escalated quickly...
“’ey Dee, get over here!” Indie looked up at the sound of that voice, but before she could do anything to react, none other than Romaine Tierney appeared at her side. “Romie,” she greeted with considerable gladness, returning the affectionate blow. At her friend’s query, it was all she could do to keep herself from glancing over to the boys, but she managed a nonchalant shrug without looking in their direction before holding up a twenty— “Nothing much, I’ve just been waiting in line. Drinks on me, by the way.” The only reason that she found herself able to leave out mention of her two companions was because she knew it would irritate Stephen. Dee wasn’t entirely oblivious; she was aware that some part of the reason behind his insults had to do with a desire to have her attention, though that fact easily got caught up in the face of the more pressing thoughts that tended to crowd her mind whenever he opened his mouth: namely, what a jerk and oh he is going to regret ever thinking that. But anyway. All things considered, she decided that it would be in her best interests to ignore him, if only to rile him up further and get him to try harder. There was nothing more entertaining than watching a boy make a fool out of himself, especially when—
“Oh, no. No. You didn’t,” she said, slowly turning to Stephen as he disregarded Fletcher’s wise warning. “You do not talk to me like that.” Yeah… so much for ignoring him. But indifference, even feigned indifference, just wasn’t part of Dee’s nature. Some people, when pushed too far, broke down and cried. Others retreated within themselves, managed to hide their hurt. But Indie? Indie just got angry. And she wasn’t the kind of person who let their feelings and opinions go unheard. Sometimes her outspokenness worked in her advantage, helping her get her way in a large group and lending to a certain aura of magnetism. Then again, sometimes it only landed the young Miss Radcliffe in trouble.
“Here,” she said to Romaine, shoving the cash into the redhead’s hands. “You go order, okay? The usual for me— an espresso, non-decaf, of course. I need to take care of this.” Without checking to see that her friend had followed her wishes and gone up to the counter, Dee took a step toward Stephen, eyes flickering over his face as if studying its (admittedly fine) features. Then, satisfied that the distance between it and her fist wasn’t too great for her to manage, despite the height difference, she punched him.

      Stephen ; the flirt
      -------tags ; Indie, Romaine, Fletcher

Stephen's eyes flickered over to the new arrival as she came to stand beside her friend, recognizing Romaine - the girl who had at one time been the best friend in his life. He distinctly remembered the summers they had spent together as children, when Romaine's family had moved in next door to his house. The two were incredibly close back then, when there had been no pressure to be popular or to act in a certain way to be considered "cool". He wasn't entirely sure when they had begun to drift apart, but knew it had been sometime after the transition from elementary school, when children suddenly became aware of social hierarchy, and where it no longer was socially acceptable to have a best friend of the opposite gender. And while a small part of Stephen had always regretted the lost friendship, he didn't think that either of them dwelled on it very often.

His attention was naturally drawn back upon Indie as she made a big scene of telling her friend to order so that she could to "take care" of this "situation". While his expression before had only been mocking, now he bore a smirk that showed just how comical he took this scene to be. As she stepped closer to him, obviously sizing him up, he suppressed the urge to laugh. What, did she expect him to be intimidated by this approach? Surely not. He was about to make another lazy comment about her shortness when suddenly, she raised her fist and lunged for his face.

He effortlessly blocked the punch with his own hand, easily having more physical strength than her by size alone. Because he had been in quite a few fights in his life, Stephen could always anticipate when someone was going to punch him - he could see it in their eyes and expect it depending on how he had been acting previously. And though he didn't care to admit it, he deserved to get punched at this moment. Rather than letting her go of her hand that still remained balled into a fist, he continued to clench it in his own, an eyebrow raised as he seemed to suggest that this was all a ploy that she had been trying to get closer to him.

"You know," he said slowly as though bored by the task of holding her hand up in its position where it had been aimed toward his face. "If you wanted to touch me, all you had to do was ask." His smirk was quite large by now, and after a moment when she began to struggle in his grasp, he released her hand. "Care to finish this outside?" His comment was suggestive, as though he had gotten the impression that this was no longer an argument, and instead a ploy to get his attention. Of course he expected her to outrageously deny these claims, but Stephen was just glad to be interacting with this girl at all - strangely enough.

FLETCHER
fitz
the belligerent │ tags: indie, stephen

After withdrawing himself from the drama pit taking place in the middle of Starbucks, Fletcher regretted it. It wasn't like him to turn away from a perfect opportunity to not only converse with a lady such as Indie Radcliffe, but to help stir up a conversation and add an extra dose of drama. As he had expected, Stephen chose to ignore his warnings and gestures and keep staring his new enemy up and down. As he continued listening to what was going on behind him, he began feeling more tempted to go back. Yet, what Stephen and Indie were discussing didn't seem to involve him. There was no reason to return except to help support his friend, which wouldn't do much at this point.

All he kept hearing behind him was Stephen's continuous comments and in return Indie's sassy attitude. She only stopped for a moment to speak to her little friend with the bundle of energy. Fletcher knew her. There was something about her that he couldn't forget. The fact that she was friends with Indie made matters even better. However, he had no more time to stay lost in his thoughts as a sudden silence took over the room. Going from a heated argument between an angry Indie and an equally rude remark-throwing Stephen, the peace provided a great deal of shock and tension in the small cafe. All other thoughts set aside, Fletcher glanced back at the duo to see what they could be up to now. His eyes landed on them just in time to witness the fist of Indie hurtling straight towards Stephen's face. Although he wasn't ever ultimately sure what to expect, this particular outcome caused him to take a step back in surprise. Though the hit was smoothly blocked, the anger in the young girl's eyes was obvious. Who could have guessed that such a tiny little thing could turn into such a monster? He shook his head, still observing from a distance to watch Stephen's reaction. Yet, as he got the sensation to step back into the circle it wasn't long that he was inspecting his friend. He listened to his next words and it was apparent that he had changed the whole direction of this conversation already. Now may have been the best time to interrupt.

"Radcliffe." he interjected, casually making his way back to the very spot he had just left. "Forgive me for interrupting." He added, a smirk quickly growing and planting itself on his face. He quickly continued. He wanted to make this short and sweet. How Stephen would be reacting right about now wasn't his concern. This girl needed to be given a bit of good advice. "One: a girl like yourself should never attempt to use a fist as a weapon." He began, stealing a glance at where her fist was just about glued to Stephen's palm before continuing. He could easily come up with item number two on his list. "Two: a girl like yourself should never attempt to engage in an argument with Mr. Rosephowitz, who will, in any case, turn it into a flirting session." He knew that he was going to regret this, but nevertheless kept going. "And three..." It took him a moment to come up with what could be the third key item on his list that would send Stephen over the edge, but it didn't take him much thought. "Ah. Don't go outside with him." He finished abruptly. "There is your daily advice." He suspected that he had either just added a whole lot more drama or had ended it for the current time. Only then did he reluctantly turn to face Stephen to try and register his emotions.

Melakai Dillon ▬ 18 ▬ tagged; Elias, Calem & Violet
Melakai noticed the girl was fumbling for her words. He smiled at her. "Hey, it's okay. You don't need to be nervous. We're all friends here...right guys?" he jabbed Elias in the ribs, grinning at his friend. Melakai shrugged his shoulders carelessly at Violet's question about being rivals. "Oh, I don't know. Probably, yeah." he crushed his Styrofoam coffee cup in his hands. "Let's see if I can do this..." he mumbled to himself, aiming his cup at the trash bin. He threw it and it landed in it. "Yeah!" Melakai exclaimed, smiling goofily. "So, what else is new?" he asked to no one in particular. As his gaze passed over the three others at the table, his eyes lingered at Violet for a moment. He leaned back in his seat and looked away quickly, interesting in the ceiling about them. "I wonder, if the ceiling were to collapse, would we all be crushed and killed?" He thought aloud, not really talking to anyone in particular.

Elias watched and listened as his two closest friends conversed with the new girls. A smile spread across his lips at a few of the things mentioned. When being Riverside students and rivals was mentioned, he grimaced. "The amazing wonders and joys of Riverside," he said, a blithe grin on his face. "Rules to your left and rules to your right. Friends here, enemies there," Elias busted out laughing at his own remarks. He knew how dumb they probably sounded to the others, but because of his haughty attitude, he didn't care one bit about what they thought. Elias was about to mention something else when he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. He turned in his seat and faced the action as Indie and Stephan fought with words. His eyes narrowed into slits as he watched Indie step closer and evaluate Stephan. When she swung, Elias drew a deep breath and relaxed his gaze. He was hoping that her hit would land right in the center of his face, but his hopes were stopped short when Stephan grabbed her hand. Elias raised his hand to the back of his neck and rubbed it as he turned around. He saw Fletcher walking towards the two just as they left his vision. Elias was about to remark about what he had just witnessed, but he felt fingers jab into his side. Turning to face Melakai, he glared briefly before relaxing and replacing his frown with a smile. "Well, Melakai, if this roof were to collapse, I'm sure most of us would be dead," Elias replied grimly.

    ROMAINE.
    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
      [ the joker ] [ word count; 723 ] [ tagged; Indie, Stephen ]

Romaine welcomed the playful punch that her friend returned to her only shifting her body away slightly. She found herself glancing between Dee and the tall blonde. Studying that Indie tried to pay no attention to him, she couldn't help but still feel a bolt of tension between them. She told herself that she'd have to get to the bottom of this later on when things cooled down. Breaking the silence, her friend pulled out a twenty and insisted that she would pay for their drinks. She frowned slightly when she said this. It was in her own best interest to pay for their order since she was late anyway. "If you think I'm letting you buy, you're dead wrong," She said stubbornly. Though, she felt her words were lost almost as soon as she said them.

Her eyes were drawn to the tall blonde boy once more as he muttered another insult to her friend.
Don't I know him from somewhere? "Well midget, it's a shame your team sucks so much. I would say I recognize you from games, but you were probably just seated on the bench the whole time." Dropping her jaw as an instinctual reaction to the boldness of his statement, she felt anger boil up inside her. She knew it wasn't directed towards her, but it may as well have been. She was going to have her friend's back no matter what, and wasn't going to sit on the sidelines while she needed her. Just as expected, Indie got angry as well. Next thing Romaine knew, Dee was shoving the money into her hands and giving orders to go get them drinks. Taking a step back from the urgent-ness of the situation, she decided it was best for her to just do as she was told.

She pocketed the cash and just before making her way to the counter, took a moment to narrow her eyes at the boy. She meant it as a sort of non-verbal way of saying, "I'm not done here."
What's his name? Steve? Steven? Stephen? Yes. His name was Stephen. There was a brief moment of reassurance as she had, in fact, remembered the name of this fellow. Something in the back of her mind told her that she knew him. Yet, she chalked it up to be as simple as seeing his face on a school newspaper or billboard or something. He seemed like the type to be well renowned. Still, in her eyes, he was a stranger who had earned his his place on Indie's bad side.

Once she had the attention of the lady at the counter, she went ahead and ordered a drink for herself— a green tea frappuccino and the non-decaf espresso for her buddy. Gladly, the lady took her request and hurried to prepare the order. While idle, Romaine dug through her own bag for her wallet. Once she had retrieved it, she turned to check on the two. To her surprise, she saw her friend struggling to get free while the boy— Stephen, held her fist clenched in his hand. She had concluded that Dee had tried to deck him in all her rage. Shock pushed her into thinking fast, yet again, she turned on her heel back towards the counter. "
Could I add a chocolate smoothie to that, please?" Nodding, the women behind the counter went to work.

When she was rewarded with three cups and a handy carrier for them all, she paid the women and muttered a quick thank you before taking them. Hurrying back to the two, she hastily placed the carrier on the table nearest to them all. "
Hey hey hey—" She paused to be sure she had their attention. She picked up the espresso and the chocolate smoothie, one in each hand, and shoved the espresso into Indie's chest. "This is for you." She switched her gaze to Stephen and said, "And I've got a delectable chocolate smoothie for the next person to release my friend and go on with their life." Her emphasis on the word 'delectable' was meant to sarcastically make the smoothie seem more enticing than this whole disagreement they had going. Adding a quick shake of the cup that was only inches from Stephen, she acted as a barrier, put there to break up the fighting.

CALEM
WRIGHT
- awkward

----------------

Calem watched as Melakai sunk his shot, wincing a little. It was silly, but he was a little jealous that he had made the shot and Calem hadn't. Calem flinched a little when Melakai jabbed Elias, which in return made Elias bump into Calem. "Yeah. We're all pals." Calem spoke, kind of out of his head; he was somewhere else in his thoughts. Considering how close he, Elias and Melakai were, he was familiar with their feelings and warning signs. Usually, when Melakai acted like this, he liked someone. Calem hated to admit it to himself, but it was true; Kai was into Violet. Usually when Calem and anybody liked the same girl, Calem got the short end of the stick. He kind of accepted it for the time being, and went back to conversation. "If the ceiling fell? Oh yeah, we'd be fine. Absolutely perfect." Calem threw up the three A-OK fingers, purely out of sarcasm. Due to his loss, his gaze floated back toward Indie and her red-headed (literally) friend, Romaine. What pretty girls. Calem took a deep breath, knowing he could never get any of them, and looked back to his friends. However, he wasn't really in the conversation; kind of just pretending he was when really he was in his own world, pitying himself like a fool.

sorry for shortness, I need to get started on homework.
Dee gritted her teeth as her swing was easily blocked by Stephen — if he couldn’t get more annoying, couldn’t he at least have had the decency to let it land? Not that she’d expected it to. She’d never punched anybody but her brothers, back when she’d still lived at home, and even then she had never intended for her blows to find their mark. Still, it would have been nice to wipe the smug look off the annoyingly tall boy’s face. Not deigning to respond to his suggestive implication — she couldn’t for the life of her think of a snappy comeback anyway — the petite girl was almost grateful when Fletcher, having had a change of heart, decided to intervene.
“You’re right,” she said, pretending to take his “advice” seriously. “I should have used my knee— I’d like to see you block that.” She aimed this last part back at Stephen with a suggestive expression of her own, though she wouldn’t have dreamed of actually doing it, if only because it would have gotten her kicked out of the café. Maintaining her newfound reputation as “the” girl came in second to maintaining her more long-standing reputation as somebody not to be crossed; the only thing that topped them both was her dependence on caffeine and the utter wreck she would become without her Starbucks. “How’s this for your own daily dose,” she said to the milder blonde: “tell your advice to people before it’s too late to make a difference.” And then, just to aggravate Stephen and to throw Fletcher’s vexingly casual attitude into a tailspin, she added, “Though I’d sure like to go outside with you.” She tossed in a saucy wink for good measure, deciding not to dwell on how much truth that flippant statement actually contained. What could she say? He was really cute.
Broken out of the situation by an espresso to the chest, Indie blinked bemusedly as her friend before recovering. “Thanks, Romie.” Then she noticed the barista’s glare as well as those of the people still waiting behind them, catching sight of a range of emotions that ranged from impatience to fascination. “Hey, we’re holding up the line,” she said, nudging Romaine.

      Stephen ; the flirt
      -------tags ; Indie, Romaine, Fletcher

Stephen grit his teeth together as Fletcher suddenly interrupted the conversation he was having with the short girl, interjecting with advice for Indie that literally consisted of how she should stay away from him. That Indie had shown more interest in his friend despite all the effort he himself had made with her was irritating to say the least, and that Fletcher was now encouraging her to avoid him made the situation even worse. Ah, don't go outside with him. Fletcher's words caused Stephen to swing his head over to give him a look that was clearly incredulous. Man, who's side are you on, here? he seemed to ask, when Indie suddenly declared that she would go outside with the blonde beside him. Taking this as the last straw, Stephen's expression turned into a flat-out scowl.

"Don't flatter yourself, midget. It's pretty obvious you're only saying that to get my attention." His statement was cold now rather than smug, and it was exceedingly clear just how irritated he was to have lost any credibility with the girl who he clearly was still hung up on. It seemed like he was going to say something more when suddenly his phone began buzzing from his pocket. Upon seeing who was calling, Stephen seemed to narrow his eyes slightly, confused as to why she might be calling him. Not seeming interested in the drama that was taking place before him any longer, he silently pressed the acceptance on his phone, leaving the group wordlessly to go outside and answer the call from his mother.

today, my apologies.

Violets face lit up as Melekai spoke about her being nervous. Her head initiated a small nod, "I know, I'm just on a bit of a sugar high," she replied, steadying her gaze on his eyes. The whole sentence was a lie, which he was probably already aware of. To enforce the lie, she held up her nearly empty hot chocalate with a smirk. With a final tip of the empty cup, she tunred back around to face the center of the table. Her face returned to Melekai as she heard the soft sound of cardboard hitting metal. She carefully observed him as he quietly congratulated himself. "Kay, my turn!" She called out with a devious smile, a type of smile that didn't come on her face to often. She whirled around in the chair, so her body was alined with the trash can. her arm raised slowly before flicking towards the can. Her teeth caught her lip as she watched it sail across the room, it hit the wall behind the can and bounced into the trash pecariously. her arms raised in triumph as a small word of congragulations mumbled over her lips. "Rebound!" She voiced before turning back to the table and slouching over, a smile lingering on her lips. She had a one in a hundred chance of making that shot, but the gods loved her today and didn't make her embarass herself.
A silent chuckle feld from her mouth, more just her body shaking with the imaginary sound, when Melakai questioned about the roof. More laughs followed as she listened to the boys responses. "That would be a bit random, now wouldn't it?" She replied with a crooked grin. her gaze followed Calems and rested on the group oof four sitting by the counter. Her eyes rolled in annoyance, of course it was on indie and her friends. Why would his attention ever be on Violet? She was just a bore, unlike Dee, who is just a ball of confidence.
