"Alright, alright," Emily huffed, beginning to pick her way around stones and brush she could barely even see. At this rather slow, cautious pace which was made even worse by her limp, she inched her way up the steep path weaving through the boulders, always keeping at least one hand on one of the sides in case she slipped and so that she could tell where she was going. Every once in awhile, a few loose pebbles would clatter down the path beneath her feet, causing her to pause for a second to retest the ground before continuing.
"Oh, one thing you might wanna do out here is make sure not to stick your feet under any rocks, or bushes, or whatever," she suddenly called to Zyr as they moved along. "I don't know if cats are immune to snakes and tarantulas and scorpions, but I wouldn't take the chance if I were you." She paused for just a moment, hoping a quick halt would add some level of importance to her words, then continued on speaking. "I once knew this one guy- well, didn't really 'know' him, we were acquaintances at best- but, anyway, one night he was out walking around and wasn't being careful, because you'd think all the creepy-crawlies hide away at night, right? It's too cold for them, yeah? Wrong." She stopped speaking again for a moment, once again trying to add an extra touch of drama to her tale. "He ended up stepping right on top of a Mojave green. I actually don't know what happened to him after that, but I haven't seen him since. Maybe they just moved him to another Dome, figured he wasn't cut out for the desert. I'unno."
By the time she'd finished with her story, she had reached what seemed to be the end of the parlous trail. Now standing just below the rocks that crowned the outcrop, she glanced back at Zyr before going around the side of a huge chunk of sandstone into a long yet shallow dip in the rock. Crouching down at the entrance to the "cave" (if it could even be called that), the bird girl opened the weathered pouch at her side and grabbed out some flint shards. "Hey, could you get me some of that dried brush?" She asked over her shoulder to Zyr, eager to start a fire and shed some light on the situation for the both of them.
