THE JEWISH NAZI

Karsten gulped. The usual lights that were in a school were burned out and the glass scattered to the floor, the only light coming from the windows that had been broken. Yet still the place seemed clean, in order. The floor was clean, at least as clean as a school's floor could be. It seemed somewhat orderly in the cafeteria, other than Mars latching onto some girls hair and throwing her to the floor. Wait.. what? He snatched some girl's hair and threw her to the floor?

He flinched when the door opened behind up, and spun around to meet the blonde-hair boy. Creep. Mars greeted him nicely. He greeted Karsten.. with a calm, collected voice. And he sounded nice. Mars and nice together? How does that work? They shouldn't even be in the same sentence together. Of course, when the blonde stopped talking, Karsten couldn't keep his mouth shut for once. "I don't care about your brother, he only seemed to creep me out. No worries there." He said sarcastically, a small smile dancing across his lips, but soon faded.

The German boy leaned backward against the wall. "Want to know some things, and I know that you have the answers." A small, one-sided grin creeped in on Karsten's face. Wow. This was just weird. Karsten doesn't smile like that. Actually, he has never smiled like that. His grin disappeared, and focused back to the boy infront of him. "I know something about you, and I suspect you wouldn't want anyone to find out what it is." His voice lowered to a whisper.

Karsten straightened up, raising his chin. It wasn't like he wasn't expecting Mars to pin him to a wall or kill him right there. But why kill him? Karsten knows things. Lots of things that could make the entire Coates Academy go against him. He wondered if he was doing a good thing here, and his face softened ever so much. Karsten wasn't thinking, he was only reacting to the world around him, but with an attitude. Just like the students.

THE SERPENT

Hel stepped infront of him. She waved her hand through his shoulder, then his chest, and every other part of his body. It went right through him! "What the hell?!" She exclaimed, clenching her fist in the area of his neck. She hesitantly removed her hand, stood straight, closed her eyes and sighed angrily. She raised her head to look down at him, she then shot her eyes over to Ms. Neon.

"I suppose we both want answers. But I doubt scaring him into a heap of tears and blood will help any." She let off the 'Lets work together' groove, giving her a slight smirk. She stepped infront of the boy, holding out her hands somehow to block him from from walking forward, quickly realizing that he'd just walk through her. She bit her lip. Never was she so excited in helping a guy that can't help her. She took a last glance at Ms. Neon, then at the terrified boy, and saw them both useless. Hel rolled her eyes and started off towards town.

The seducing teen slightly sped up her pace, almost cracking a smile when she rubbed over her wrist tattoo. Ah yes, LOKI, the one that was supposedly her role model. She started thinking about the meaning of her name when she looked it up. Hel- goddess of the underworld, then Lorelei, something else that she couldn't remember. Hopefully something evil.. she thought! sighing happily while gazing toward town. She immediately recognized the scarlet puddle in the middle of the road. A large grin cracked through her innocent face, but hid it before anything would notice. She teared up, suddenly acting like a devastated child that had just flushed her dead goldfish down the toilet. A small, salty tear threatened to break through, but she wasn't going to let that happen. She wasn't that saddened. She flicked it out, just barely being able to rescue her thinned mascara.

Her big eyes searched the crowd, that appeared to have thinned out sines the van had exited with the small group. She walked over to the puddle of crimson red, saw her reflection and the blinding sun above her. She wondered why she was in town. Why, anyways? Shouldn't she be at Coates, trying to take over? Step up the ladder above Mars? No. That wasn't her goal. Her goal was to gain followers, an army, and take over Coates. Yes.. just the thought made her smile. Her perfect lips opened, and a gust of air blew out of her mouth, disturbing the still puddle of blood in the road. She looked up and saw clunky boot prints, and curiously followed them. They led her to a place behind a store, with kicked up dirt and clumps of blood around it. "They must've dragged him here.." She said quietly, retracing her steps back into town.

"I wonder who else is here." She asked herself, and eyebrow raised and her head cocked slightly to the left as she gazed into the crowd.

feeling: anxious, nervous, scared.
where: gun store.
power: electricity manipulation.
bars: three.
crush: none.

My skin was crawling, and by now my fingers were thrumming restlessly against my thighs. So many people, too many people. No. I couldn’t do this. I wanted out of here. I wanted to go lock myself in my room and hide from the world, get away from all these strange people and calm myself down again. I wanted to lose myself in my video game realities and my movies and music. Spend my life eating junk food and pretending the rest of the world didn’t exists, because I didn’t know how to cope with it. My breathing was rapid and shallow, my eyes darted about nervously and my mouth had gone dry.
Even the angry, tantrum throwing Hannah-Nora barely had my attention at this point. But she was angry and her shrill voice split the air, accusing and harsh. Then she was throwing things at me, pennies, or something metal. I was dimly aware of them clattering to the ground, and also vaguely pleased they hadn’t hit me. Could I do chain reaction electricity? I didn’t think so. I couldn’t conduct through air, it wasn’t conductive. Neither was stone. But I didn’t know how this worked. I could barely function as it was, I didn’t even know how to stay calm in a group of more than four people, how was I supposed to figure out how a freakin’ super power worked?
The next object hit me square in the forehead. An almond that made a popping sound and fell to the ground, smoking. An almond that Hannah-Nora popped into her mouth but made me jerk my head back sharply. Not good. My head slammed into the wall behind me and I felt the surge of electricity dart though my body and into the copper wiring of the walls. For a moment every light in the store flickered to life brightly before the overcharge caused every bulb to exploded and send shards of glass raining to the floor.
It all had happened so fast. Not even a minute. My head was throbbing and a faint burning smell had filled the air. A faint warm trickled ran down the side of my cheek, catching in the corner of my mouth. Hesitantly I flicked the tip of my tongue out, tasting it. Blood. I raised my left hand slowly to the wound. It was a small cut maybe an inch long running along the cheekbone under my left eye. Where had it come from? Falling glass? That had to be the answer, but if I was hurt, what about everyone else. “Dammit,” I whispered under my breath. “I-I should go.”
With those words hanging in the silent air I pushed through everyone to the door, avoiding touching everyone and listening to the sound of glass breaking under my shoes. I didn’t go far. Just outside, to the side of the building. But once there, I slumped to the ground, lowering my head into my hands. I could’ve killed them. It’s just glass, but if somebody had touched me, a charge like that would have stopped their heart. I can’t even get this power under control. God, what’s happening to me?
I stayed in that position for a few minutes before my senses started to come back to me and I began to clam down again. Had I really just run out on a little kid whose powers were overwhelming her as well? What was wrong with me? I clearly wasn’t the only one struggling with this. Whatever had her freaking out needed to be settled first. My problems were unimportant, trivial even. My crippling social anxiety was probably going to be the death of me, but for now I’d just have to deal with it as best as I could. So with a heavy sigh I unravelled my fingers from my long and now extraordinarily messy black hair and forced myself to my feet.
I didn’t have to go back inside again. Hannah-Nora was already on the pavement rolling away with her skateboard and I grabbed my own from where it was propped against the wall and pushed after her. “Wait up! Where are we going?” With my long legs I easily caught up to her, but now curiosity was digging at me. What exactly was she thinking, what could we do?

Drew was going to be king, be a leader, be a general sociopath, blah blah blah. She'd heard it all before, and not least from the dark haired boy himself. Plus, she'd totally listened into some of his meetings with the counselor, but, pfft, she knew he probably did too. Scarlet traded in secrets and hair products, after all. "Oh, Drew. Drew, darling. Honey. Be quiet. You're giving the grownups a headache." She propped herself up on the table, crossing her legs and watching events unfold, adding an occasional comment under her breath. She caught Emily's, who was probably a psychopath, glance and returned a thin lipped smile. Dear God, she was stuck with a bunch of creeps. Then, Amanda went and did it. She went and kissed Mars. Scarlet laughed out loud. "Darling, if you're that desperate to be noticed by Drew, Mars really isn't the way to go. Like, seriously, hun, bad choice. Bad, bad, choice. You'd be better going for..." The clear, dulcet tones trailed off as she just noticed the idiot standing beside her, gazing at her every so often. She was used to gazes, hello, she was beautiful, but this kid was just about getting on her last nerve. Davy Hogan, she remembered his details now, from the file. Real name Henry, had some sort of family issues (tear tear, didn't they all?), and he was 'remarkably ignored and abused by his peers'. She didn't care, and right now, the kid was irking her even more than usual. "Do you think I care if you're hungry? Go get some food, not that you need it. God. Don't talk to me."

More alpha male posing between Mars and Drew, more cajoling from Amanda- honestly, didn't the girl know there was no hope for the boy? and Drew was gone. Scarlet shot Mars a look as she followed, hoping that it would convey a positive spectrum of emotions- amusement, irony, and a look that said she was going to get her job done. Even if it meant putting up with Drew for ten minutes. She walked slowly, adjusting her watch around her wrist, and then paused just outside his door. The gold letters were ridiculous, another sign of Drew's awful ego problem. She stopped, resting her head on the doorframe and letting her lips curl once more into that knowing smirk. "Gosh, Drew, you look like that statue. The Thinking Man? Something like that?." She pushed her hand through her hair, leaving lines through the damp, and sat on the small, metal, depressing desk that all the students were supplied with. She pretended to think for a moment, pursing her lips and finally speaking. "What's your plan, Drew? Who are your people? I mean, you know that Mars and I are the only people you can actually trust? Actually, screw Mars, add in Amanda, though I think that if you break her poor heart any more she'll try to kill you." She smiled as if the words amused her, though she knew that she'd be the one to kill Drew if she had the chance.

Quinn blinked, looked around at the group, and blinked again. "Uh." He didn't know what to think or do- why was everyone berating him? He was just a simple seventeen year old boy who was getting really desperate without some girls to flirt with! Okay, yeah, there was the three girls in the group, but they all sort of terrified him. Climbing the popularity ladder like a champion used to be Quinn's game, and without it he was lost. He didn't even have a ladder to climb. He looked at Kevin for a moment at the dude's little outburst, then shrugged, turning to Mia again. She was slightly less crazy in a world full of insanity. Oh my God, that was so poetic. He had to use that line at some point. "Where do ye and your da live?"

Mia, who seemed fascinated by the snake coiled around Hannah-Nora's waist, jumped slightly and tilted her head at him. "Oh, hi! You know the house just underneath the hillll leading to Coatessss? I live there with Daddyyyyy." Again with the elongationnn of the syllabless, but Quinn blinked as he realized just what this girl was. He saw that house every time he drove up to Coates at the start of term; it was hard to miss. It had a huge, beautiful garden, all bright colours and emeralds, and the house itself was a mansion. Mostly white and black marble that was polished to a gleam, ivy creeped up the walls of the house and around the pillars that supported the porch, there was a rumour around Coates that the heavy oak doors never opened, not for anybody. Quinn used to dream of living in a house like that, of being rich. He wasn't so sure now, since the girl who did live there seemed to have stopped growing up when she was about five years old. Mia looked at him now questioningly, her earbuds dangerously close to her ears again, and Quinn talked quickly. "Wow. Isn't that house like a few acres or something? At least?" Mia frowned, looking confused. "I think it's more than a few acres? A few miles, at least, Daddy said once he owned most of the land around here."
"What do ye mean by around here?" Quinn was tentative.
"You know the cliffs to theeee... east of townnn? He said once he owns everything from there toooo the school up the hilll."
Quinn blinked. That was the whole town, or practically. He looked over at Kevin, raising his eyebrows and placing his hand on Hannah-Nora's head, pushing her away so he could get a word in edgeways. "Ye're hearing this too, righ'?"

amanda glared at scarlet, irritated. "that's my business, scarlet. why don't you just take your ugly face elsewhere and make someone feel bad?" she growled, moving past her, pretending to walk away. she sat down for a few moments, but then followed scarlet and drew's voice back to a room, where she listened in on their conversation. what drew said back to scarlet. she walked into the room, glaring at scarlet then looked at drew. she was confused, wondering what he meant by his comment. she raised an eyebrow at him, curious. she didn't like scarlet's comments, and they hurt, more than they should have. did she like drew? no, she couldn't be falling for him. not... him. he was a power hungry jerk, and as far as she knew he was playing her for everything. she didn't trust him, even though she said she did. she was actually scared of him. she... she just didn't know how to feel. "get lost, scarlet." she was irritated at her, and her harsh words hurt. were they true, though?

Mars examined the boy. He was definitely nicely built with clear attrative traits; something that was sure to stand out in a crowd, yet with his strange accent and an odd demeanor, would be written off. And it was there, clear as day, that some unwiseness had lead Karsten here, to Coates, to speak to Mars in person. Nobody but a boy named Kutami from St. Claire’s had ever had enough persistence to take such a daring step. This boy had no idea what Drew’s Crew was all about: and that fact alone made Mars sure that Karsten was going to be perfect for what he had in mind.
He smirked, gently swaying on the balls of his feet. Finally, after hearing Karsten’s list of clues, he spoke. “That’s nice of you to share. I have something for you as well.” He twirled the coin between his fingers. “I’m looking for somebody, Karsten. A particular person: a girl who will destory the world we live in if we don’t stop her.” He smoothed on his sharp features a look of mourning: a desperation. “Her name is Jessica Petrova. A Russian girl. As wrong as it sounds... well. If she’s not stopped, we will all die. I’m warning you right now. Jessi is no good for anybody. She has secrets. Secrets that could affect all of our lives. Anybody associated with Jessi will only be falling into trouble.” He sighed, a long drawled out breath carried on by his accent. His eyes wandered back to Karsten and he smiled inside. This boy was falling for it. “And I know that she’s with somebody you care for dearly, Karsten.”
The tall Scottish boy raised an eyebrow at Karsten. Sizing him up. Demanding in a desperate persistence whether or not this was his guy: if Karsten was his ticket to these two brats who thought they could get away with being the big dogs in town. It was Jessi, much more than the blonde, that concerned him. But the blonde looked equally as annoying, with her determination and unaffected, humorous personality. He did not mention this to Karsten, though.
Mars gazed coolly at Karsten. “I won’t hurt her. I will just... confine her in the most civil way.” He raised a dark eyebrow. “Can you help me, Karsten? Or will I have to find somebody else to do this job? Because I know you’d be doing all of us-- you and I included-- a big favor. She will only destory the world as we know it.”

Cassie shifted, watching the girl jump out of the van and informing her that they’d meet up later. She groaned. Jessi was beginning to loose her YouTuber’s touch, not to mention keeping secrets! Traitor. “You’re such a militaristic Russian it hurts my wee little heart. Murderer of love.” She clucked her tongue accusingly and watched as the tall girl walked off.
Finally alone, she put the van into drive, starting out in a slow roll through town. Soon the roads became clear and her eyes flickered down to her hands: they were shaking. Setting her jaw and gripping the wheel with more force, she glared at her face in the rearview mirror. “You’re such a wimp, Cassie,” she sneered through a plastered smile. Trying to convince herself that everything would be all alright. That nobody had just been thrown up in the air and murdered. That kids weren’t developing mad-crazy powers. That this was all a dream. She wet her lips and glared back at the road. “And, no! You’re not going to want Mack, because Mack... because... well. First off, Mack’s a traitor.” She swallowed hard. “And second off... Mack’s gone.”
It took her a moment in that stilled silence to force it in her mind: something she had been ignoring since reading part of those files. Mack had put her in a mission without any experience. He had set up Jessi and her friendship. He had controlled every aspect of her life since moving here and she hadn’t even thought of it. She wondered if her mom was in on it too... but she was a lawyer and her life was full of enough stress.
The blonde eventually arrived back at her house. “At least you’re a companion, Kotka.” She muttered, glancing over at the Australian shepherd. Kotka perked an ear. Sighing, the YouTuber stumbled out of the rickety old van and went into her house, where she threw the backpack full of papers onto her bed and pulled her pistol out from where it stayed hidden away in her pants. She weighed it, considering. “Yeah,” she figured aloud. She would take it. She frowned unhappily at the reflection of herself in the reflection of a Gary Jules poster mounted on her wall. “You never know what Mack can get you into.”

It wasn’t pain that she felt. It was the complex feelings and the raw emotion tugging at her wits and twisting it into a thousand rainbow twizzlers being hog-fed to a few dozen apes who sat around and wanted to eat ears! Yeah. Life was harsh. Hannah-Nora winced, pressing her plams against her forehead. “Mon,” she moaned. “Dat guy is possessed by da devil or somethin’, ‘cause i tell you: I never feel anybody so messed up in da head that dey couldn’t tink straight. Agggh!” The ability every human being posessed to breath was abruptly gone. Poof, nada. Black pressure hit her like a ton of bricks and she attempted to gasp. Of course, that was futile, because first you had to deal with what was wrapped around her throat.
“Lu... cy!” She weezed out, tugging at the reptile’s slithery black skin. The snake-- which she swore up and down was the anaconda from those horror movies her mada and fada had never let her watch, due to her excessive behavior of imitating such glorified figures and terrorizing the scare babysitters that dared come around -- was beginning to squeeze her neck tighter and tighter. The incapability to breathe caused her to go into a athsma attack... which, in turn, began to give her anxiety. She was pretty sure that at any moment, she’d die. But somehow she tugged enough and shoved the possessed snake down around her waist. Then the little Jamaican girl whirled on it with all of her fury. “How da ya, Lucy! I kill you if I didn’d love ya so much!” She fumbled around in her pocket and, upon finding mini-marshmallows, crammed them into Lucy’s nostrils. The snake almost immediately went to sleep.
Finally, huffing and puffing, Hannah-Nora turned to Kevin. “Mon, I gonna walk all up and down ya butt if you don’t tell me next time that they ain’t no guns in a store.” She glared up at the boy. “I serious about my rights.”

Scarlet met Drew's eyes evenly, maybe raising her eyebrows a little in disbelief. Then, she gasped and clasped her hands together, holding them to her chest in a look of mock distress. "Little ole' me? Spillin' everything? Nah, hun, ya must have me mixed with somwan else." She dropped the charade, and gave Drew one of her best smiles- all of her straight white teeth except for that one damned chipped molar showing. She pushed her hair back, squeezed his shoulder, the whole lot. She was bestowed with beauty and the world would be damned if she didn't use it to her very best advantage. "Come on, Drew, you know that you can trust me. I won't spill to anyone- who do I have to spill to? Me and you are similar in that we're not, you know, liked for our charming personalities or generous nature or anything." She was expecting Amanda, but not this soon. God, she was going to need to get Drew to sort this whole situation out or she'd have to organize an accident for Amanda herself. How was she meant to wheedle any information out of the boy when he had a lovesick girl following him about. Oh, yes, Scarlet could tell Amanda was lovesick- reading people was her other gift, after all. There was a look in the girl's every time she saw Drew. She couldn't say much for her taste in boys. She refused to give Amanda a second glance, but her first glance was, hopefully, debilitating. It was a long, judgmental one, with just the small sneer that Scarlet had perfected over her two years as queen bee. It was a glance that told Amanda that she didn't think anything of her; that she was less than a bug. Scarlet did so love giving that glance to people. She took her hand off Drew's shoulder and instead pursed her lips, thinking before speaking again, with a slightly confused expression on her face. "Did you hear something, Andrew? I thought I did, but it might have been the wind. Or maybe a mouse, or some other rodent. We really should get that issue seen to."

A petty move, really, but now she put Drew in a compromising position- he could buy into her insult and turn Amanda away. That would provide endless amusement for Scarlet, and she might even give Drew another one of her rare smiles. If he tried to defend the girl's honor or whatever- well, Scarlet would never stop teasing him, for one, and two, she could quite possibly never forgive him. That would be great. Amanda could react however she wanted, Scarlet didn't particularly care. Even a catfight would be enough to lift this horrible boredom that had settled since they'd returned to the school.

THE JEWISH NAZI

Karsten took in a deep breath, closed his eyes for a moment and looked around. What am I going to do? On the upside, Mars is only going to contain her, right? But then on the downside.. is he going to backstab me and try to get secrets, maybe information about them two, about Jessi? About Cass.. Karsten tried to dismiss the terrible thoughts that were making his head spin, and he wacked the back of his head one last time into the wall, though more gently than before. He was confused. More confused than usual. He was confused.. simply confused.

He wondered what Mars was doing now. Videotaping him? Plotting a surprise attack? Getting his weapons and consulting the military?! "Naw.." Karsten said to himself, becoming disgusted at his own speech. Gross. American in the 'hood. Where in the world did he get that from? He almost gagged. "Einen Einfluß auf sich selbst, Mann! Du machst einen Berg aus einem Ameisenhaufen. Oder aber das geht.." He came up with a conclusion. He would travel to the bubble. Or, to where he could touch the bubble that surrounded them. It couldn't be that far off, most likely near Coates.

He sighed again, wet his dry lips and flopped onto his feet. He suddenly realized how thirsty he was. Goodness, he hasn't had a drink since.. last night. Where was he going to get water? Maybe in somebody's already ransacked home. He shrugged it off.. for now. He took a journey throughout the halls, getting totally lost and having to trace his steps back for another ten minutes. Finally, he found the exit, and heard some voices. Ehhhh, Mars. Yay. He turned around to catch glimpse of Mars yanking on a wickedly red-headed girl! and he steered in the other direction. He was going to flop into the dome sooner or later.

After maybe fifteen or twenty minutes of walking, he saw a glimmer of yellow off to his right. A butterfly zapped into the yellow light, falling lifeless lay into the ground. A little yellow, toxic-like print was left in mid-air. Karsten could help but reach out in front of him and slowly poke the air. "Heilige Krabbe!" He exclaimed, pulling back his hand as an almost electrical shock buzzed through his arm.

He rubbed his hand, it getting most of the damage. It went temporarily numb. The print of the dead butterfly faded away, and next to it was replaced with a giant hand-print from Karsten. He reached down and picked up a fairly good sized rock, and flung it towards the bubble. It was flung right back at him, but now a big blob of pixelated yellow sparked through the air. "No way out.." Karsten backed away, gulping nervously. "But maybe there's a way in?"

It was warm and comfortable, leaves rained down around me and the sun shone with that early autumn warmth. I always loved fall days, the crisp crunch of the leaves and the distinct scent the dying leaves gave off. Though I was never verbal about it and kept it to myself, I cherished it in secrecy. A sudden torrent of water drenched my wild black hair and I glanced towards the sky, not a cloud in sight. So why was it raining?

I jolted awake sharply, jerking to the side and rolling off of my bed and onto the floor in a tangle of sheets, blankets and soggy clothes. Swearing and grumbling under my breath I wormed my way out of my new cocoon and found myself staring at a pair of heavy combat boots and something in Russian. Great, probably more insults. “Well that’s a hell of a way to wake somebody up,” I grumbled unhappily, water out of my eyes. I’d gone from warm and comfy to cold and wet in about two seconds flat.

“First of all,” I stood up, almost ashamed to admit that I was barely taller than the girl in front of me, “how do you know where I live and secondly, why are you here?” Leaving that to be answered I turned my back on the girl and started peeling off my clothes. Well, just my jacket and shirt which were now soaked. For a moment I stood, looking at myself in the mirror. No, I wasn’t admiring my lean compact muscle and lack of clearly defined abs, but rather marvelling at how pale I had become. This was the first time I had looked at my reflection since getting my power and now I could see why others gave me funny looks.

My skin had become deathly pale, almost translucent even. There had always been slightly darker spots under my eyes, hard to see unless you were looking for them, but against my pale skin the light purplish bruises stood out more prominently. I just looked like a sleep deprived corpse. Awesome. I rolled my eyes quickly and pulled a t-shirt out of my closet at random. A black Nirvana t-shirt. For a moment I considered grabbing a hoodie. I really wasn’t keen on having someone brush up against me and finding out that it wasn’t just my hands that killed people. No, I’d wear a sweater, I didn’t want that to happen. So a black hoodie soon covered me and I sunk my hands into the pockets, slowly turning back to Jessi with a questioning look on my face.

─── theNERVOUSwreck ───

Between my electrical humming and the sound of Hannah-Nora wrestling with her python beside me I could barely hear what Quinn and Mia were talking about. But I caught it. Her dad owned the entire town? Jesus. No I for sure didn’t want to go there. They owned that big fancy house underneath Coates, and it was bound to have plenty of weapons. “Yeah, I’m hearing you.” A frowned was playing across my face and I forced myself to tune out Hannah-Nora’s persistent shrieking and griping. “I don’t think we should go. It’s right underneath of Coates after all, and she looks sick, like somebody just hit her brain with a baseball bat filled with nails.”

Out of habit I brought one of my fingers to my mouth and started gnawing on the nail, lost in thought. “I think we should send Adam and army-girl. They can handle themselves in a fight, I know that much. I’m not exactly keen on putting a weapon in her hands either.” I gestured vaguely towards Hannah-Nora who had once again shoved marshmallows into the nostrils of her snake. I continued to gnaw thoughtfully. “I don’t know what your take on this is, but that’s mine. For all we know Drew could have had his little squad go through that place already.” I cocked my head to the side and raised my right arm to swipe away the blood that was still welling from the cut on my cheek.

My stomach rumbled and I looked sheepishly to the side. At least I still had, wait, no, I had eaten them. Hadn’t I? Reaching into my pockets proved me wrong. “Awww yeah.” All of my thinking and calculating had gone out the window and I was hungrily peeling the wrapper off of a mars bars and taking a bite out of it. I didn’t chew it, just let it melt in my mouth, savouring it. I tossed reeses pieces in Hannah-Nora’s direction knowing that she would be clambering all over me for the chocolate. “Enjoy.” I turned my eyes back to Quinn, waiting for his response.

THE INSTITUTIONALIZED

Mars didn’t even try to cover up his smirk—this guy was so ridiculous that he was actually falling for it. Well. Apparently more than one person in this little eggshell enjoyed old-fashion revenge. Although his dark smile was subtle, as were all of his features, it was noticeable. Just as intended to be. The coin came to a stop, rolling between his fingers. He crossed his arms and leaned back against the brick wall, as if impressed with Karsten. What was amusing was that he had planned this from the very first time upon seeing Karsten. “Well, you’re doing a good thing for others.” He said. “If Jessica Petrova is any use to this Dome, this world of ours that we now share and create… her only use will be destruction of not only others, but places and memories that will be shattered forever.”
He turned on his heel, glimpsing the young Asian girl beyond the sheet of glass. Emily was some messed up little girl, and although he let her linger by his side, he didn’t agree with her motives. She was too impulsive, too ambitious for blood. The coin began weaving between his fingers again. His eyes flickered with a dare. “If you do this for us, you can even keep the blonde girl safe. Because at the moment, she isn’t.”
Mars let that hang in the air, allowing the boy to absorb it. Mars pushed past the Academy doors and waded into the cafeteria. As if on time, the kids’ chatter and complaints grew eerily quiet. He liked that, but in a very faint desire, because although the kids were afraid of him and grew to respect him, he didn’t want to be another Drew. Drew abused his power, his charm and good looks—he used his words cunningly and didn’t hesitate to overthrow authority. Mars simply thought he was doing something good for himself by relying on himself alone and not picking a side. He was most definitely not the good guy… but he wasn’t the bad guy either. Or, at least, he thought. Nah. Who cared? Why get into politics?
He tossed the coin in the air and caught it, enjoying the light feeling inside. He turned a happy bounce in his stride, to raise an eyebrow at Karsten. “Jessica Petrova doesn’t have to be dealt with today. Besides, it’s Sunday. Go to church.”
Davie Hogan, actually named Wes, raised a fat hand. He hesitated. “The church… burned down.”
“Well.” Mars shrugged. “Alright. Don’t go to church. But Karsten? Jessica is still a problem that needs to be dealt with. But in the most discreet ways.”
With that, the tall boy turned away and strode down the hall to find Drew, Scarlet, and Amanda.

Cassie Preston was pretty sure that, at any moment, her mind would snap and nobody would ever find her body out here in this pile of leaves. Kotka’s tail wagged hard, the gray-blue fur whirring with a force of wind that battered the blonde’s face. She blinked. What had happened? Slowly standing up, it came back to her. “Oh. Yeah…” She scratched her sweaty neck and looked into the camera. She had seen a snake and pounced in this pile of leaves for cover.
The walk had been long and, if not completely exhausting, at the very least not a leisurely stroll through overgrown paths, blistering heat, and stickers. She hated stickers. The Youtuber got on the trail, carrying the heavy gun in her backpack. Since she wasn’t a “shoot-‘em-up” type of gal, she didn’t wear a holster like Jessi did.
It wasn’t because he had put her through a mission. Actually, since she had been young and learned that he worked for the Unit, she had wanted a mission of her own. Ahem, what bothered her more than the idea of being in some sort of sci-fi Unit mission was that she was completely alone and without guidance from him. He had left her here.
Black Umbrella.
She swiped her brow of sweat. The name kept bouncing back in her mind. It created a deeper trench, a deeper curiosity that drove her mad. She scowled. After another five minutes of repeatedly banging her head against a tree in hopes of getting her anger out, chasing after her dog when he saw a squirrel, wiping the camera clean after accidently sweating on it, and then simply trying to stay on the path, she eventually made it to the hunting blind. Tucked away into a cranny of a hill, the blind blended with its environment.
“Great!” She exclaimed into the camera. Her smile was clearly sarcastic. “I’ve found Mack’s hunting blind. Now, if my old bodyguard friend would have come with me, I wouldn’t have to waste twenty minutes trying to find this dang place.” After a moment of climbing, she finally sprawled out in a chair, panting. Kotka wandered off, sniffing the place out. She sighed, long and drawled out, and set the camera down so it faced her. She stared into it blankly. “I miss my Dad, okay? So… if you’re watching this, Mack… I miss you.” She looked down. “But that does not mean I’m not fairly displeased with your little tricks.” She began to form an image of revenge in her mind. It had to do with a chainsaw. “And when I get out of this little buble, I’m gonna—“
A glimmer caught her eye. Cassie stopped, staring. Then, brushing back her blonde bangs that had escaped her pony tail, she reached out and touched it. And then she realized.
Kotka began barking. The Youtuber jumped to her feet, but it was too late: now coyotes poured out from everywhere, all barking, all screaming fury. Every single one looked at her. What disturbed her the most wasn’t the fact that she was completely surrounded by mangy, growling animals. It was that a single one, most likely the leader, took a step forward. “Human,” it said in a guttural voice. She took a step away, stumbling. Impossible. “You die now.” It growled. And then the coyote smiled.

"Rainbow sparkles... and ponies. Yes, mmm-hmm..." The pain continued to twist in her mind, bringing up old memories of the same sort of pain. The first time she had experienced this, back when she was in her... um... early 3s. Yes, the torment of pain and emotion and all sorts of colors. It was a strange sensation. She had almost been dosed with Tylenol for a whole year before her parents had realize there was something special about their daughter. And, no, not just because she suffocates snakes and eats peoples legs. Speaking of legs, there was Kevon's right now... looking as tasty as forever.

"Maybe you should shave," she murmured. Then a hysterical laughter escaped her dark lips. "Shave them first! Yes! Of course! Because tea tastes better with Hannah-Nora. Hannah... um... what is her name again? Yes. That was right-- sassafras and toilet paper tastes good. Oh!" She burped, a strange hiccup sound that made her face go pink. She frowned. "Hannah-Nora likes... doggies." The little Jamaican girl teetered in her light-up shoes, her stomp-stomps as she called them. Her mind was delirious with pain. The Coates kids were definitely planning something. Something terrible! It took her a moment, after a hiss of delight from Lucy, to realize she was walking around in a circle. She slowly stopped, her brows furrowing. "Am... am I pee-peeing?" Sure, the pills her mama gave her had to be some sort of medicine, to help with her "destructive and impulsive tendencies." But right now? The concrete seemed to swallow up Kevon's legs.

"Quinn!" She yelped, running to him. She fell, skinned her knee, but then continued to crawl desperately to the Irish boy. "I'm scared. I'm tired. I--" She stopped. Chocolate caught wind and, whoa, Lady Capone had her cape tied around her neck and fists on her hips. She glared. "Kevon. I gonna whip you all up if you..." She happily took his offer of the chocolate and gobbled it. Then, satisfied, the little girl sank to sit by Quinn's feet and felt a wave of fatigue envelop the most indefatigable girl on the face of the planet.

Jared, above all else, was confused. First, a girl with blonde and pink hair had appeared to hypmotize him. Jessi wouldn't be too happy about that, but she wasn't exactly present at the moment. Then, a green and black clad girl had basically pinned him to the ground. The fact that either had truly noticed him was beyond Jared. The possibility of him suddenly becoming attractive to girls through some weird mutation that Mack had put on him crossed his mind, followed by the possibility that all the girls had either lost their minds or all the other hot guys had died brutal deaths. And then Pink Hair was gone, leaving Jared alone with the seething Green Hair.

He put his hands up slightly, to show surrender. "No more shoving," he said. "Kill me if you want, but I've been pushed around enough in my life, okay?" His mind reeled back to the questions she had been asking during her attack. "Okay... okay... the adults are gone, as far as I can tell. Disappeared into no where. Everyone eighteen and over went poof. Powers?" He laughed uneasily, despite being drilled by a girl a foot shorter than him, and let his hands fall to his sides. "Scientific experiments by the government. The parents of my two best friends were in on it. The Coates kids are crazy. Everybody knows that. And justice? You want to bring someone to justice for all this? Gosh, you really are crazy." He eyed her for a moment, a strange look passing his features. "There's thousands of heads to cut off here. The President, I guess, would be a good start. The Russians. The Marvel company, maybe, since their sensationalistic view of superpowers and genetic mutations probably inspired this. But to start in here, Drew Henderson would be a good pick. Then his psychopathic side-kick. And probably a hundred others." Jared paused for a breath. He cocked his head to one side. "If you’re looking for a fight, there’s some kids who are trying to start some sort of revolt against Drew. Look for the emo guy making orders and kids carrying guns. That’s them. Good luck."

Jared turned on his heel and started walking away from the girl, towards Cassie’s house outside of town. That’s where Jessi and Cassie would be going, trying to uncover the secrets of their insane parents. His pace slowed after a dozen yards, knowing that what he was about to do would end up bringing him some sort of trouble. Without breaking stride, he turned around and began walking backwards. He eyed Green Hair. "You know, you can come with me if you want," he said. "I mean, if there are secrets to dig up about who’s behind all this and maybe how to get out of it, me and my friends will find it." He turned again, walking as normal. Had he --- Jared Winston, who had only ever really spoken to Cassie or Jessi of the female race --- really just asked a girl with green hair and a nose ring to come with him to uncover the secrets of the universe as they knew it? He felt as if he would throw up for a moment. Talk about a sudden jolt of either stupidity or courage.
