Alex kept pushing on, if it weren't for the sound of his name being called he would have collapsed on the ground. His ears perked up at the sound and he looked around, spotting a figure in the distance off to his left. He squinted his eyes before realizing it was Ash, the hybrid he was with when he got in a fight with the robot hybrids in the winter. He perked up himself and broke out into a dash to the figure.

He ran and ran until he wasn't that far from the hybrid "A-Ash" he said with a small smile through pants. Its good to see someone he knows here, who looks to be just as lost as him. He examined the hybrid before him, who was much taller. He seemed like he was suffering just as much as he was. He continued panting and hunched over a little bit, trying to regain his breath from the jog.

Bae stuck out a bottom lip in a pout when Nakai declined his offer. He looked to his side to see Ethan who had now joined the conversation. Bae softly jumped in place again when Ethan suggested another game "yes, yes! That sounds better!" he said happily. "We are the predators" he said in a deep voice and stopped jumping and stood tall, patting his hand on his chest. "And they're the prey" he said and went back to his normal looking self. "and we must hunt!" he exclaimed and hopped from where he was standing and onto Nakai hoping to knock him over. Jumping into the hybrids chest and latching his arms around his neck

Ernest was busy filling out some paperwork in his very pristine office, adjacent to the lab. Guards had just called in a few minutes ago to alert him that three of his domestic hybrids were on their way to picking up the next bunch of dome hybrids. He was itching to get started on them, even though currently group one only had one member. He took research very seriously and is something or someone made his work difficult he would put a stop to it.

A loud beeping noise coming from his tablet alerted him to a disturbance with one or more of his domestic hybrids. Dr. McCarter tapped the screen to listen in to what was going on. A heavy sigh escaped him when he heard Ethan, Bae, and Nakai were getting into a heated argument about nothing of great importance. He wasn't being paid to play babysitter. He was being paid to save life itself. Rolling his dark eyes, Ernest clicked his right ear piece on, allowing him to communicate with the teenage hybrids.

"What are you idiots arguing about? Less talk, more tracking. If Alexander isn't in his holding cell within the next 24 hours you all will face the consequences. Now move your sorry DNA! GO!" Dr. McCarter yelled in frustration, hoping it would make the hybrids cringe. Then suddenly, an idea popped into his head.

Changing the interface, McCarter made it so only Nakai could hear him. "Nakai, you have shown great loyalty to me and for that you shall be rewarded. Let Ethan and Bae bring back Alexander. I need you to meet me in my office pronto." With that Dr. McCarter turned off his ear piece, picked up his pen, and began writing again. His plan was in motion and would better both him and his daughter.

"Haha! Fun, fun! Nakai is IT, now!" Ethan slapped his tail on the cougar hybrid's legs for good measure, allowing his drool to slobber all over the other. "Run away, Andrews-kun!" He laughed and yipped, speeding away on two legs but transitioning to all fours as he streaked across the desert plane. "Oh oh oh," he jabbered to himself, stopping suddenly. "Gotta get Andrews-kun." He got back on his two legs, brushed off his shirt a bit, and sniffed around. "Scent, cheap co-log-ne. Also latex gloves. Don't like gloves, no sir," he continued muttering. He skittered around the area, mind flip-flopping between finding the hybrid and finding the white-haired domestic.

Ash smiled slightly as Alex ran up to him, but upon seeing how weak the shark hybrid was, he frowned with concern. "When's the last time you've had something to drink?" He asked him, watching him closely. "You look really dehydrated." He raised his gaze and scanned the land for any water, turning around to get a 360-view. There was nothing to be seen, however, which only made him more worried. He knew a human could die from dehydration in a matter of days, but Alex, with his fish DNA and in this desert, would likely not last nearly that long. "We need to get you water," he said with an anxious edge to his voice, looking back down at Alex.

A high-pitched growl erupted from Nakai's throat when Bae jumped on him and Ethan whacked him with his tail. He had to bend over to support Bae's weight on his neck, but the boy didn't knock him over. "Get off of me," he hissed threateningly, his face close to Bae's.

His ears lifted when the scientist came on over their earpieces, but immediately lay back down at the scolding. However, they again perked up when the frequency was directed only to him. "But-!" Nakai tried to protest when the scientist had finished speaking, but was cut short as the signal went away. He was silent for a moment, then managed to slip out of Bae's hold, ducking low to get the other's arms off his neck. "...Good luck getting that domie in," he told him, obviously insincere. "You'll need it." With that and a flick of his long tail, Nakai turned and quickly went back into the Lab, where he went down hall after hall until finally arriving at the scientist's office. He knocked on the door, wondering what the man had meant by "you shall be rewarded".

"S-since I've woken up" Alex told Ash. She stood straight after he had caught his breath again. He used his left arm to adjust his right that was in the cast, moving it so it would sorta stretch out his shoulder. "We n-need to set up a c-camp. I-I'm pretty sure ;m still t-the fist group. So I-I'm leaving s-soon" he told Ash. Finding a place to at least establish as a meeting point would be okay. That way after he's out of the lab he will know where to go. "I w-was heading out to t-those mountains" he said and raised his left hand to point to a group of small mountains off in the distance. "I-I think that w-will work best for s-shade" he explained and looked back at the tall bear hybrid.

Bae pouted when he heard one of the scientists in his ear piece, letting out a small groan. he huffed when Nakai slipped out of his grip and he turned around. He ignored what Nakai had said and he skipped happily over to Ethan "okay okay! Let's go find these domies" he said with a bright smile. "I'm gonna follow you~" he cooed and stopped his skipping so he was now beside Ethan rather than in front of him. "so lead the way" he added and bowed down with an arm over his stomach and the other outstretched to the empty desert.

You Strike Me ❖ As A Woman Who Has Never Been Satisfied

Phaedra had kept her eyes locked steadily on the mountains, keeping a set, loping pace. She walked quickly, the frantic beat of a hummingbird's wings mirrored in her short, quick steps. She hadn't been walking long, however, when she froze head up, lynx ears twitching in the oppressive heat. She hadn't heard anything, but a shift in the barely perceptible wind put her walking with the faint breeze. Well, Phaedra reconsidered, it wasn't really a breeze. Breezes were cool and refreshing, where as the weak gust here just served to barely rustle the heavy air, surrounding her in a cocoon of heat. Regardless, it had carried some sort of scent, and Phaedra turned slowly, alert and Ill at ease. Her eyes froze on the silhouette of another girl, and Phaedra couldn't help but take one tentative step forward. She had never seen this girl before. Silently praying the girl was friendly, and shifting her weight so she could run at a moment's notice, Phaedra whispered "Hello?"

Ash looked up to the mountains, which seemed to be just as, if not even more, barren than the desert around them. Despite this, he nodded in agreement. "Where there's shade, there's water," he said thoughtfully, studying the mountains. "...We should probably start moving if we want to get there before a domestic comes. Do you think you can make it?" He asked Alex, still sounding worried. If they couldn't get to a safe spot before Alex was taken, then it was likely they would not see each other again for a long time; the scientists wouldn't let Alex loose near an ally, as hybrids together were much more capable of resisting capture than lone hybrids were.

Emily froze as Phaedra turned around, but upon hearing her tone of voice and seeing how ready she was to run, Emily decided that this girl was likely not a threat. She slowly approached Phaedra, not wanting to scare the girl off. Once she was close enough, Emily smiled and said a bit jokingly, "Took you long enough to notice me following you." She looked the girl up and down, and upon noticing the blood on her hand, put two and two together and asked, "So, how does one accidentally slap their hand into a cactus?" She raised an eyebrow at Phaedra, though kept her tone good-natured. This girl seemed very on-edge, which was understandable: Emily had never met her before, and most hybrids are wise enough not to trust strangers. Thus, Emily was careful to show her good intentions by keeping a friendly tone and staying a comfortable distance away from the other hybrid.

"WHAT?" Izzy screeched, almost losing her balance from the silks she was in the middle of climbing. She wrapped her arms and legs around the long silk cloth, making hersel more stable while she tried to focus on her father's reasoning. Not hearing a word he said she interrupted him by interjecting, "But I don't want a babysitter. I don't need a babysitter." Izzy complained, using her whiny voice that her father could never stand.

"Nakai will act as your body guard. Not a babysitter. You might not want him but I would worry about you less if you have someone, with stronger abilities, to protect you while you are around dome hybrids. *Sigh* He has been nothing but loyal and won't talk your ear off."

"But dad-"

"No buts. I have made up my mind so you don't have a choice in the matter. *Knock* *Knock* That's him, so I got to go. I'll send him over once we are done here."

Izzy bit her lip in frustration at her father's rudeness and bossy demeanor. She was sick and tired of her father making decisions for her and treating her like a child. She was a grown woman now, and should be treated as such. Izzy was even starting to best her father in certain areas of science.

With a sigh, Izzy flipped her hair behind her head and began to keep climbing up. Yes, she was a dedicated scientist, but she couldn't help but want to go off and do things on her own. Currently she was free until the next dome hybrid patient came in. That could be a day or two, depending on how far the dome hybrid was and how skilled the hunters were. Nakai must have been a really good hunter to have her dad "promote" him to helping her. Who knows, maybe she'll get something out of the arrangement instead of bored glances and silence. Maybe she would test him in different ways while he watched her; both physically and mentally. As Izzy continued to climb, she decided it might not be so bad after all.

Quickly regaining his composure after having talked to his daughter about the future arrangements, Ernest called out giving the go ahead for Nakai to enter. As the door opened he kept a neutral expression and gestured for the cougar hybrid to take a seat. Do to many of the hybrids having tails, he made sure to have chairs with exposure at the body of the back rest, allowing room for their tails.Once the young man was seated, Dr. McCarter cleared his throat and began his speech he had put together at the last minute.

"I know you must be wondering why you are here. You are here because of two reasons; one, you are loyal and two, I want to reward you for that loyalty. I am offering you a job as bodyguard to my daughter Izzy. You will watch her to make sure she is safe and unharmed by those who wish to hurt her. You will also report back to me through our earpieces about any unusual activity involving my daughter. Think of yourself as her personal shadow. Izzy is aware of the arrangements but she is somewhat hostile to the idea. There is no doubt in my mind that you will keep her safe and will be able to handle her uniqueness. Any questions?" Ernest leaned back in his chair eyeing the young male for signs of distress or discomfort.

Nakai came in and sat down in the chair, taking care to stick his tail through the hole in the back, and listened intently to what the scientist had to say. Once he was finished speaking, Nakai couldn't help but wonder why the scientist girl needed a bodyguard. She seemed perfectly capable of protecting herself, but he supposed it had to do with the father being overprotective. Pulling himself out of his thoughts, he asked, "Does this mean I can no longer go into the Dome?" As dreadfully hot as it was out there, Nakai was pretty well-equipped to for the desert, even without his new cougar DNA. As barren and dry as it was, he found comfort in the bright blue skies, the reddish rocks, and the unique creatures and plants that called it home. Although, it seemed that he didn't really get a choice in the matter; Dr. McCarter had not so much asked him to take up this role, but had more told him to. Besides, since when was it Nakai's place to disobey a scientist? Nonetheless, it was quite an honor that the scientist trusted Nakai, a lowly, ferine hybrid, with the safety of his daughter.

Alex nodded softly "I s-should be fine. I'll let y-you know if we need to s-stop" he told Ash and began to walk once again. He lifted his left hand to wipe a layer or sweat that had formed on his forehead. Hopefully they can get there before a domestic find him. He was thankful he had found Ash, sure he had only met the hybrid once back in the old dome but it someone he was familiar with.

And for once Alex was sorta looking forward to go to the lab. It would be cold in there, he would hopefully get this horrid cast off his arm and get his ribs check out again. Hopefully they were smart enough not to do tests and experiments on him when he was in such a bad state. He looked back up at Ash "How you h-holding up?" he questioned
