The sarcasm in Jackson's voice was easy to detect and Chelsea was pleased to hear it, it was a nice sound and since she was around people so little she had missed hearing it from others. Usually she was sarcastic to herself and you know what they say, talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, and if you answer back while that's the second. She let out a light laugh at his joke, the guy seemed relatively at ease around her, something which she wasn't used to. Other people would usually shy away from her as she always seemed to look rather odd to others, they seemed to inherently know that she wasn't quite like them. "Yeah well I could do without the aroma, it isn't the nicest thing to wake up to in the morning I must say, although I have had worse on some occasions." Her tone was even, calm she liked Jack's sense of humor and her smile widened slightly when he called himself an idiot, "Also speak for yourself, I'd hardly call myself an idiot. In most cases anyway!" She said, feigning annoyance an giving a little grin at the end to show she wasn't really angry. After she had spoken she noticed that his demeanor had changed, something had shifted his friendly confidence, but what? She was about to ask what the matter was when he spoke again. "Sure fine, I'll wait here while you make a call, I've got nothing else to do." Her reply was friendly but she still wondered what was on the guy's mind.

As she watched Jack walk off she quickly made the decision to listen in to his conversation, something her animal senses allowed her to do as and when she wanted to. As she adjusted her hearing she carefully listened in to his conversation and, as she did so, her confusion only grew. The guy wasn't speaking to anyone, there was no-one on the other end of the line, it seemed like the guy was speaking to himself. At the mention of killing she grew uneasy, was he talking about killing her? He only seemed to be saying one half of a conversation so she wasn't sure what was going on. The clincher came when she heard him mention "Jekyll" she'd heard of Jekyll and Hyde's before, creatures with two personalities, one reasonable and nice, the other... less reasonable and less nice. In her thought she had missed the end of the conversation and saw that Jackson was walking back her way. She composed herself quickly ignoring the millions of questions that were flying through her head, she would ignore the issue for now and see if anything happened between now and her leading him to the hotel.

She gave him a small smile, warier than her previous ones, "No worries, long conversations are fine." She said to him. "And sure I'm still up for showing you the way to the hotel, and as for being a murderer on the run I can neither deny nor confirm if that is true." She said lightly, flashing him a cheeky grin, hoping he wouldn't notice her change in attitude like she had noticed in him. "Now, shall we go?" She asked starting to walk in the direction of the hotel which was located a wee bit away from the centre of town. She was quiet as they walked, now unsure of what to say, she knew that Jack was not entirely human and that unsettled her slightly, she was worried that she might slip up and say something she would regret. They walked past a small pub where a group of four people stood outside talking. As they passed a mixture of strange, inhuman stenches wafted into her nose, one similar to a vamp and another eerily like hers, the other two she didn't know but she knew they were not human. She continued walking hoping that she and Jack wouldn't be noticed. She looked at Jackson and noticed that he too had a slightly odd scent and wondered why she hadn't picked up on it before now.

─────────────────────────────────

harley felt completely rejuvenated after consuming his prey, although he likely would've felt even better if he could've gotten some blood from that shifter. well, never mind that! he made the mistake of forgetting that the shifter could likely sniff him out with ease, unlike humans and their petty excuses of noses. he shook off the memory of his failed kill, moving onwards to his new task. it was to decipher why on earth that gang of peculiar humans had popped up in this innocent small town. they literally had no purpose there, so why'd they show up? harley was clever, but not clever enough to figure something so strange. it just didn't make sense! thus, drilled forward by his interest in the matter, he returned to the town. he stuck to the shadows this time, practically gluing himself to the blackness cast by the surrounding trees and short buildings. his blackened clothes were extremely supportive of this, but his deathly pale skin was, unfortunately, not. seriously, this genetic made no sense whatsoever! a vampire's goal is to stay hidden and unseen, but god was it difficult when you're as white as snow! and the red eyes, and the damn teeth too! it was like no physical attribute he possessed had the desire to work in his favor.

harley didn't know exactly what his course of action would be. it was to find those humans again, somehow remain undetected, and figure out what on earth their purpose was. and then, after that... what, exactly? he didn't care enough to go on thinking about it, because now he was on the prowl. he sniffed the air carefully, hoping the breeze would carry him in the direction he needed to go. and, it did. or at least, so he thought. he was trying to follow the shifter's scent, but he failed to realize there was another shifter about. he'd fastened himself to chelsea's scent, following her rather than rei. he didn't come to this realization until he'd found the girl, followed by a boy with an equally unusual smell. harley's blazing red eyes followed the new strangers, his body once again alert with curiosity and energy. before he could stop himself, he'd already begun to make his way forward; directly towards the two unsuspecting beings he'd traced.

harley was behind them, his footsteps hardly making a sound. it was like he was an oversized feather, sweeping its way across the dusty path. he got a good whiff of the girl now, and quite honestly nearly passed out. her scent was far more nauseating than that of rei's, making his stomach churn with anxious anticipation. he was tempted to take a snap at her right then and there, but resisted for one mere cause: the boy. he couldn't quite identify what this boy's species was, and why his scent was odd too. but what if harley was incorrect, and the boy was merely human? he'd go screaming around the town that a vamp was there, and then harley would be toast. he couldn't risk it, it'd be a petty mistake. so, instead, he decided to announce his presence. make "buddy-buddy", per-say, with the two. it couldn't hurt to meet someone new.

"pardon, am i interrupting anything?" he whispered, his voice dripping with a hungry, yet sophisticated acid.

His smile back to her reflected the suspicion he felt that something was off but he didn't say anything. She was acting differently and as much as he was used to that, he didn't feel better any time soon. It didn't matter if Hyde never came out from dormancy. People just avoided Jack like he carried something nasty - and he did. It was increasingly interesting that humanity - as weak as they were - had their own type of sixth sense. He noticed it in the cautious and judgmental glances they cast him. Mothers would rush their children away from him and employers would never consider hiring him. It's not like he really needed a job though and going to public places wasn't really first thing on the man's to-do list. Some towns had his face a target. But even if Jackson was eighty percent innocent, he shared Hyde's 100% guilt. This body had killed people and he remembered each face like a stain in his mind. Hyde killed people for fun. Jekyll cleaned up the mess. Neither of them was without guilt. If anything, Jack had more animal instinct than human and survival was on the top of his list especially since he was the last of his kind. But he hated every second of it behind his always cheerful persona.

A little cough, and the man hopped up to walk beside the girl sensing that both of them were being cautious at the moment. Can I kill this one. Her face annoys me. Hyde's distracting thoughts interrupted Jackson's and the man outwardly sighed as he sped ahead a bit, walking backwards so he could talk to her face to face in a careless manner. "So. Definitely not a murderer. Totally believe you," he raised a thumb sarcastically and winked, "But if you're not a murderer than what brings you to this hole of a town. I've seen enough creepy things on these streets to last me a life time." As soon as his cheerful voice rang out against the silence, his stomach dropped when a stranger's voice collided with his own. "Speak of the devil..." Almost out of habit he could feel adrenaline push through his veins and had to force a deep breath to keep calm. Green eyes scanned the ares around him until they landed on the source. Despite the dark clothing, a pale faced figure stood out painfully in the ever darkening backdrop. Who is that. Let me out you moron. Look at him. Let me kill him for you. The request was more like a demand at this point and Jack held his fists white knuckled. Shut up Hyde. It's not human. And I don't think anybody would need to be a genius to know a vampire when you see one. And you're not getting out any time soon. I promise. There was almost a growl in his head and Jackson had to blink a couple times to clear his head.

"Oh - absolutely," Jack nodded with good nature, reaching up to rub the back of his head before he continued, "I was about to put my wicked charms on this girl with carefully devised use of sarcastic wit and ridiculously nerdy fun facts." He glanced at her and chuckled half to himself at the idea of throwing any sort of charm on anybody. This was good. Talking was much better than fighting. Jekyll couldn't fight and he didn't want to let Hyde out if he still had the energy to help it. Something strange was definitely going on and the observations he'd made so far convinced him that he wasn't going to be relaxing any time soon. Oh... yes. Talk them to death. Great plan. I know how this can go faster, you brainy imbecile. Once, again he held in a frustrated groan as he moved to readjust his glasses instead. Now was time to really look at the situation and figure out what to do from there but unless this stranger made any move, he wouldn't do anything risky. "No, but in all honesty, not much was happening. Can I help you with anything? Perhaps some tanning lotion? Maybe a spa day? Couldn't hurt."

Despite her uneasy feelings Chelsea smiled once again at Jackson's sarcasm, it was always welcome and it did make her feel more at ease. She watched him carefully as he walked backwards, wondering how long he could keep it up without tripping over backwards. Just as she was thinking about an answer to his question a voice interrupted the two of them and an ice cold chill ran down her spine as a scent, harsh and cold hit her. Vampire. She'd never come across one before but the scent was unmistakable, she instinctively knew it and knew the dangers that came with it. She knew that their two species had been mortal enemies and she also knew the risks that they posed to each other. As she slowly came to a stop she realized that she was clenching her fist and that her knuckles were whitening. Unlike usual she couldn't force herself to relax and she could feel a buzz in the back of her head telling her to shift and either run or escape. Fight or flight. The most basic instinct that any creature bore. And yet... She didn't wish to do either, not in a public place.

When she turned around she was met with a pale young man, dark eyes and the sharp tips of fangs poking out from under his upper lip. She had no idea what to do so when Jackson took the lead she was rather pleased. She startled slightly at his comment of flirting and charming her, it seemed like such a silly idea, Jackson seemed to think so to and his laugh confused her, it was like an in-joke with himself. From the way that Jackson was reacting it seemed as though he knew what the new guy was as well, confirming her suspicion that he to was at least involved with the supernatural, if not one of them himself. She finally rose her voice to speak after managing to compose herself slightly, "No you're not interrupting like my friend here said. But why do you ask?" She paused slightly, hesitating, unsure if she should continue down her current train of speech, "Do you fancy a meal perhaps? A bite to eat?" Her voice was terse and she wanted to see what reaction she would get out of the vampire. She wasn't being sly about her way of questioning but if she knew what he was then he knew the same. It was in their blood. As for Jackson she thought that by the way he reacted to the vamp he must know something and wouldn't be too shocked at anything that took place.

the vampire . pansexual . location;; town . tag{s};; chelsea, jackson
─────────────────────────────────

harley hovered over the two other beings, standing at a threatening six foot three. his height made him all the more intimidating, due to the fact he could easily tower above his victims. however, for a peculiar reason unknown to him, he wasn't taking any immediate snaps at them. perhaps it was because he'd just eaten, and wasn't too hungry? or maybe their blood didn't smell that appetizing, so he could resist the temptations easier? he came to the conclusion that the second option made no sense, since he was facing a shifter. their blood was practically impossible to resist, so no way was it that she didn't smell good enough. and then, after a bit more thought, he realized it couldn't be the first option either. animals weren't nearly as fulfilling as a person, so harley could still consume a person or two. but, strangely enough, he was refraining. two perfectly innocent victims stood before him, but he wasn't going after them. he eventually quit puzzling over his decisions, now refocusing on the stirring conversation coming from the beings. the boy was cocky and confident, and had such a strong scent over him that made him inhuman. except harley still couldn't pinpoint what sort of creature he could be classified as. no matter, though. he didn't care enough to look into it just yet.

harley's red gaze drifted from the boy to the girl, listening to them answer his question. both of them were speaking complete nonsense, but he didn't comment on it. at least they weren't running away screaming, that was certainly a huge pro! "no reason, really. i was just--" he began innocently blowing off chelsea's assumptions, but froze mid-sentence. the girl had continued speaking, going on about him and his reasoning behind stopping them. naturally, she went down the obvious "are you hungry for a meal?" route, which merely made him roll his eyes. he sniffed her one final time, inhaling the female's intoxicating scent. he had to confirm he truly was speaking with another supernatural being, so if she was human she couldn't go squealing to her friends. "hmm, well, you know, i must say i'm not all that hungry right now. you're lucky," he muttered with a soft smirk, flashing his fangs threateningly. so, to answer her question, yes. he was indeed a vamp, and she was definitely a shapeshifter. great, so they had equal knowledge on one another so far.

"goodie, goodie, i feel like we're learning so much about one another! what are your names?" harley kept up the conversation, actually growing a genuine interest in the two new beings. in a bizarre twist of events, he could actually befriend them in the end. he had no clue why, but his limbs grew a sudden eager impulse. it caused him to fling his arms around the two strangers, looping his arms around their shoulders and pulling them into his body more. it wasn't meant to be a threat, nor was it meant to be friendly. he just did it because he could, and he kind of wanted to screw about to test their jumpiness. just for kicks, he also ruffled the boy's hair with his fist. why not?

Damn it Jekyll. Let me out for once. Answer me this idiot. A person who's been stuck on an island for a year just got rescued. What's the first thing he's going to do when he gets back to civilization? Jackson almost laughed out loud at the ridiculous argument he was having in his head at the moment. Really, I'm just surprised you could use your head long enough to come up with that little allegory. Well done. Now hush. It was rather difficult holding two conversations at the same time. Somebody could look at it like this. Put two clear pages over one another and read the overlapping sentences without breaking face or the words. You had to be on the same page even when two completely separate pages made themselves apparent. It was enough to make any man want to lose control but Jack knew that was what Hyde was betting on. They're gonna eat Jackson. The longer you keep me in here - the more people I'm going to hurt when you can't hold me back any longer. And let me warn you, it's a very short swim from the island to civilization at this point. So. Let me out now and I kill Dracula here for you and I promise, that's as far as I'll go. Keep me in and I won't hold back when I get out. Externally, Jackson had grown rather pale and he had to focus on not swaying in exhaustion. He could have sworn that the girl beside him - Chelsea - was now speaking to the vampire.

He decided to ignore Hyde the best he could only to be rewarded with very loud and chaotic screaming. Just buckets of pure indignant curse words were now being directed at him. What would be so bad? So what if he let Hyde come to the surface for a while? As barbaric as that dark side was, the monster still kept his word when it came to things like this. But still, this vampire made no move to attack and Jack really didn't want to have to leave so soon after getting here. His smile faltered only a couple seconds before he had to shake his head to catch some more of the conversation. The vamp was speaking now, his voice like silver against the air and Jack grinned despite everything. He was just supposed to be some mindless pedestrian for now, walking along with some stranger and a voice inside his head. He'd asked for names but was now approaching the two of them with open arms. The gesture was so random and out of place that the man with two sides had absolutely no clue what to do. Hyde on the other hand was flaming at the sudden close proximity with the vampire. And when this guy moved back, Jack stood there straight faced as ever, with just a lift of his brow when his hair was casually messed with. His voice came out slow and confused, but he shook his head with a lopsided grin, "Well... that was interesting. But I prefer the whole people - perhaps bloodsucking vampires as well - keep about a three foot radius away from me. Other than that, feel free to embrace me from a distance with those eyes of death you have." All was quiet in his head as if out of mutual confusion but soon the daunting chime started back up, as twisted and frustrating as ever.

You think if they say my name three times, I'd just be summoned out? The thought was idiotic, You're an idiot Hyde. Of course not. He shook his head and smiled at the vampire, "Oh and hold on. Let's see if I remember. Horrible with names... that's right. This is Chelsea and you can call me... you can call....." his voice slowed down he began to speak over something absentmindedly. As if only to annoy and frustrate the poor man further, Hyde began to chant, Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. BEETLEJUICE!! Jackson shut his eyes closed tight in rage and shouted quickly over the chanting, "CALL ME JACK!! HOLY S***!! SHUT UP HYDE!!"

His voice came out darker than intended and a twisted smile crept onto his face. Physically the man's eyes darkened and they were stained with hellish contempt and desire for madness. However, almost as soon as that face crept to the surface it all but changed back into an expression of fear. Awwww! So close! I was there! Damn your intuitive head Jekyll. Oh well. Have fun cleaning up this time clever boy. Jackson was breathing hard and his heart was pounding in his chest. He'd lost control then. Just for a second, Hyde was able to creep through to the surface and he was left staring blankly at the other two. More than once, his mouth opened but no sound came out because he had no excuse for once. How do you talk your way out of something like that? Instead, he ended up rubbing the back of his neck like he did so often and began to laugh quietly to himself, "Well, this is awkward. Did you hear that? Because I didn't. I wonder where that mad man went. Well - peace out. It's getting late and I just remembered that I've got a date with the voices in my head. Ha. What a joke. Jesus Christ." Jackson rolled his eyes and flipped a wave to the duo only to stop himself when his eyes landed back on the vampire. Something made him freeze as he looked back at Chelsea, a low growl of annoyance catching in his throat. He should be running right now but instead he was worrying over some chick he met all but thirty minutes ago. But that was Jekyll for you. Insufferable idiot down to the bone. He ran a strained hand through his hair and down his face, pulling at his features, "See. This is about the time when I would be high tailing it out of here, but I just really don't trust you Count Hemo-Gobbler. Which is hilarious... coming from me if you knew. But you don't. So I'll laugh with myself on this one." Silence and then... I can't watch anymore. You're making me want to kill myself. Count Hemo-Gobbler? Why Jekyll?

Chelsea could see the slight flare in the vampire's nostrils and had to hold back a growl, he was drinking in her scent like a human would the scent of a freshly cooked meal. As he spoke next and flashed his fangs she narrowed her eyes, her upper lip curling with slight disgust, her gut was screaming at her, telling her to attack or flee, just anything other than just stand there. "Lucky? For you or me? We can do equal damage to each other under the right conditions." Her voice was level but there was a hint of a threat, laced throughout her words. She flashed a glance at Jackson, fully aware of him standing behind her, she was still unsure of what he was, if he was anything at all and didn't want him caught in the cross hairs of any fight that might break out. That was the one rule she tried to stick to, no innocents would get hurt when she fought, not if she could help it. A sudden movement caused her gaze to switch back to the vampire who was now advancing towards them. Before she had a chance to move the vampire pulled her and Jackson into a tight embrace. She gave an audible warning growl, she didn't really like having her personal space violated.

She was about to speak up but Jackson got there first, mentioning vampires which confirmed her suspicions that he wasn't human, though he kept up his sarcastic and joking nature which managed to impress her. Then he went on, introducing her and then pretending to forget his own name... Then things got strange. Jackson's face twisted visibly, he was getting annoyed but not with her or the vamp. When he shouted she stepped back, startled at his sudden anger but she realized what he was. A Hyde, or at least that was the best term she knew for it, someone who had to personalities, one ordinary, normal, more human. And the other, while the other was violent, dangerous and unpredictable, or at least that was what she had been told. She had never come across one before. What came after surprised her more, he changed, his entire demeanour shifted and then, he seemed afraid.

Her gaze followed him carefully, watching as he backed away, while he spoke. He didn't want anyone knowing his secret, or anything else about him. She expected him to run, escaping as fast as he could without any explanation. When he stopped she was surprised, surely he'd protect his own interests above anything else? When his same casual attitude returned it seemed slightly off balance and when he'd finished speaking she was quick to begin. "Okay so it seems like there is a lot going on that neither of us have told the other. As for running feel free to but there's no need for it." She wasn't sure if she should say more yet or not, she had to choose her words carefully, if she said the wrong thing then Jackson could go running and that would be the end of it. Instead of continuing she decided to let someone else speak, be it him or the vamp she didn't care.

"Gah!" Mortimer had to stop in his tracks when Saidi had appeared in front of him. He had been so paranoid about not setting anything on fire he hadn't even noticed she had approached him. Clearing his throat he figured his eyes were probably changing but nothing to noticeable. "Nice to see you again Saidi...I hope I'm not to late." He mutters as he follows her to where the others were. He gives them a small wave before shoving his hands back into his pockets. Nodding his head slightly he sits on a bench and looks at the other two. Mortimer hadn't worked much with them before but how hard would it be? He didn't read his file work. Which was a surprised since he was the one who made the files. So hearing that Saidi had a plan put him at ease a bit. Plans. Plans are good. Plan's don't end in a firey mess...Hopefully. As he waited for Saidi to explain more he looks at the town around them. The fountain in the center was interesting to look at but nothing he focused his attention to. But anything that kept him distracted from his ability was a good thing. Mortimer thought if he could forget about his uncontrollable ability he wouldn't have to worry about setting anything on fire. But to be safe keeping them in his pant pockets seemed to be the smartest place to keep them. Even though it was rude to talk to others with hands in your pockets.

Cole was silent throughout the confrontation. It wasn't his place to tell them how to run a mission. Brawn not brains, and all that and so on. All the same he couldn't help but be disheartened by their bickering. He lacked confidence in their ability to complete this mission as it was, the constant arguing just seemed to solidify his point: They were on a suicide mission. Not that the government cared much about a few lives lost. Mort showed up, a guy Cole couldn't say he knew well at all, and Saidi wandered off to talk to him. He sighed, his brow furrowed. Unable to help feeling like a little kid told to do what he was told and play with his toys. It can't be that hard for those girls to sort their **** out. He thought.

He was left alone with Rei while Saidi and Mort chatted. Rei was still bristling from the argument, and Cole knew that the urge to change forms and run after the tall, creepy, white dude must be very strong. His curiosity was also piqued. He felt his mind being drawn towards memories of Jackson's file again, wondering whether the others shared his macabre fascination with their blood donors. He figured he differed in some ways. Because in his heart of hearts, he figured it would be a shame if Jackson were to die. The only one who understands.

Cole shrugged it off and turned to Rei, standing squarely and folding his arms. "Look, I might just be some old dude with massive arms and a healthy love for beer." Cole started, leaning forwards a little to make her easier to look at. His height got in the way of conversation. It took him a moment to work out what the "but" was. He'd pretty much summed himself up in a sentence. "But I know enough about these things to get that the non-violent approach wasn't made for people like us. It was a natural reaction, 'specially for a bloodthirsty wolf girl. Just how about we try not to start fighting amongst ourselves, huh?"

Rei was fuming. Nobody was on her side. She hadn't expected Saidi to back down, so that was no surprise, but she'd had some faith in Cole. No matter, the vampire was gone already, and the opportunity had vanished with him. Now she was left to merely bicker with the others. "Did I insult you?" She raised a brow with her question that was shot back at Saidi. It was more of a challenge than a question, really. Poor little Saidi was insulted? What, had she struck a nerve? Spoken out of turn? Shucks, that certainly wasn't anything like good old obedient Esmeree! Someone outta just give her a slap on the muzzle to correct that naughty behavior! Rei practically rolled her eyes at the thought process her mind took her through.

Rei stiffened at the other woman's objection, her jaw setting in place. "Oh, really? That wasn't Harley? Sure looked a lot like him." Ripping open the bag she'd carried with her, the wolf dug a hand inside to snatch the small group of four papers, which were jerked out and fished through until finding the one labeled "vampire". Peeling it away from the others, she thrust it to Saidi for evidence. The picture of the vamp was less than satisfactory - too unfocused, poor lighting, and taken at an angle that could've been better - so it would be hard to prove. But Rei would leave that up to Saidi to figure out on her own. "But maybe I was wrong. Maybe the little pointy teeth on his lip were just a fashion statement. Maybe he calls every angry girl "shifter". Maybe he applied vampire-scented cologne and that's why I got confused." She shrugged her shoulders in a very exaggerated manner before lifting a hand to splay five fingers around her collar bone. "Or maybe I was right, and that really was the little leech and somehow you managed to overlook it. Both of you." Rolling her eyes, she shook her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. "Guess we'll find out when he shows back up." And if the vamp didn't, well, she would hunt him down with or without the others. They could tell her she'd been mistaken all they liked, but Rei was certain she correct. They'd figure that out soon, or so she hoped.

Rei gave an irritated, but weakened sigh. "Well, that's good for you Saidi," she answered softly, tearing her eyes away temporarily. Esmeree certainly was not fully devoted to the mission, and unlike their designated leader, she could not pretend that nothing bothered her. Rei was terrified. She had no good reason to do this other than to protect innocent people from possible harm from any of the Four, but she was no superhero. She had no selfless drive to do such a thing. Her only goal was to survive; she didn't want to die. As much as she loathed the wolf and the problems it brought with it, Rei liked living. Completing the mission and returning as instructed was a risk she wasn't necessarily eager to take. Maybe the others had a little more optimism than she did about the situation, or maybe they didn't, but Rei felt no obligation to pretend. She was scared, and even if she would display it with anger when possible, the terror lingered.

With another roll of her eyes, Rei gave a thin sigh. "Fine, whatever. But I have dibs on the vamp, understood?" She alternated her eye contact between Cole and Saidi to ensure the message was clear. The vampire was hers. If either one of them wanted to fight her on that, she was plenty ready. Even though she was unaware that her bite was just as dangerous to him as his was to her, she still had the mindset that she was best suited to take him on due to instinct. Saidi may have his blood, Cole may have outmatched his strength, and Mortimer may have had the ability to toast him, but Rei had the fury and wholehearted desire to end him. And besides, they already had it scheduled, Harley and her. Even if they had to meet on a chilly mountain in the middle of the night, she'd be down for it.

When Saidi went off to fetch Mort, Rei made no effort to tag along. Instead, she hung back with Cole, quite willingly opting for his level-head over Saidi's. With the distance between then, Esmeree was able to exhale more comfortably, finally achieving at least some kind of neutral state. Kind of. She was always a ticking time bomb, it was just a matter of how loud she ticked and how fast the ticking occurred. But, for now, having gotten out at least some of her steam by arguing with Saidi, she found her shoulders could slump down and she could enjoy a little slouch in her posture. Not that she wasn't still tense and ready to bolt. Her senses were as keen as could be, desperate to get another whiff of that little vamp so that she'd have a reasonable excuse to go after him.

Hearing Cole begin to speak, she slid her attention over to him, figuring Saidi and Mort wouldn't be gone for long. She didn't interrupt as he spoke, but instead just listened and tried to decode what he was trying to say at first. She almost gave a vocal scoff when he called himself old, though - she was a year older than him, what was he even talking about? But Rei chose not to, considering eventually he continued his sentence after a noticeable pause, therefore filling the silence before she took the opportunity. But Rei was kind of glad that he did, for the words that came out of his mouth were better than those that could've popped out of hers. He wasn't necessarily sympathetic, nor pitying or critical, but rather... understanding. And for whatever reason, that was kind of comforting. 'People like us'. That was a phrase she liked. That, and the one that followed, the one that said it was a natural reaction to have. She actually liked that one more.

With a small chuckle, Rei tried on a halfhearted grin that followed after his suggestion. "Alright... I'll see what I can do." She guided her eyes back over to where Saidi and Mort were, finding them to be approaching together. Lowering her voice to a quieter volume, she tossed in one quick addition before the others arrived. "But don't hold your breath. Though, feel free to, like, deck me with a fist to the jaw or something if I get out of hand. Just be sure I actually go unconscious or else I'll be pissed." That might be a horrid idea to have Cole be the one to knock her out of she ever went too far, considering he would probably not only knock her out, but rather knock her into the next week. But whatever, she'd probably deserve it.

Saidi came back in leaps and bounds, it seemed. She was perked up once again, which almost insulted Rei to some degree - she'd rather have made a larger impact than what seemed to be displayed. Oh well, it was apparently time to plan. Now with Mort here, they could discuss. By her presentation, Rei assumed that Saidi already had her own ideas, so Rei opted to hold back her contribution of "vamp first, wing the rest". Instead, she kept her mouth tied shut for the time being, making it her primarily goal to not start an argument for at least ten whole minutes.
