He was saved from the indignity of trying to retort to his partner's monologue by the crunch of half-melted snow outside.
The sudden lull in the conversation was punctuated by a loud bang and within seconds a huge mass of dark fur stalked down the hallway with what appeared to be a corpse between its teeth.
His hair stood on end as the beast moved into the makeshift infirmary - his territory - and, after a moment, he finally took a breath of relief as he recognised Adam's feral form.
He wasn't familiar with any of the pack's wolf semblances, frankly. He was almost incapable of shifting himself - the weakest of the weak - and as such never joined the pack on the nights when they ran, now so few and far between. In hindsight, he should've known in a heartbeat; despite his common colouring, that man carried himself like nobody else.
He stammered a few syllables as the wolf approached Skylar, faltering as he flinched back from the comatose female's arm, only finding his voice as he returned to sit beside her, only now on two feet instead of four.
"... Two silver bullets, both lodged inside of her abdominal cavity for the best part of a hour. Acute silver poisoning, pelvic fractures... I had to burn the bullet wounds shut, otherwise she'd have bled to death. That'll cause a nasty infection later, most likely, but I- I'm hoping I can deal with that when it comes... She came pretty close to bleeding out, anyway, though... Needed a blood transfusion but I didn't have the time. We don't have any blood in storage so I need a live donor... She's got some veterinary artificial blood and saline solution in her to try and prevent cardiac arrest..."
He shook his head.
"I'll give her some sedative and strong painkillers once her heart rate improves, Mr Hale. I don't want her up and running about for a week or so, but the only way we'll achieve that is by drugging her, I'm afraid. She won't stay down otherwise."

She winced as the wolf pushed her towards Danny, but obligingly rolled up her sleeve to show the healer the injury.
"The hunter put his knife through my arm. It wasn't silver. It's pretty much healed itself."
Arm still held out for Danny to examine, she twisted her head to face Emery with a pained smile.
"And damn right I did. Think I broke his hand, too. I think I saw a cast on his gun hand. With any luck, he's not ambidextrous. Why?"
She rolled her eyes - even though his question had been somewhat valid, given Blair's track record - and returned the majority of her attention to Danny, now flexing her hand to show she still had a full range of movement.
Until she recalled the odd smell of the captured hunter. Bad. Not pack. Mange and bloodied fur.
Not unlike the smell of Jason when Skylar had dragged him inside on that stormy night two years ago. She glanced at him, eyes raking the deep scar across the front of his throat, barely visible through his bloodied white shirt.
Oh no.

Rian nodded wordlessly and moved to stand up, going to lift his girl up as he went and then quickly changing his mind, extending a hand instead. He wasn't entirely sure she'd appreciate it, and annoying Kat was just another way of playing with fire.
He wasn't entirely sure that Ford would be there - as good as his sniper was, he did tend to get distracted - and he could have sworn he'd told him to stay put until they got to the agreed location themselves, but he shrugged that off. Kat was a better talker than he was, and everybody knew that. He'd be there shortly after them, easily.
As he walked back towards the car, still parked neatly by the emergency bay, he found himself sighing weakly, though, examining his reflection in the few car windows that he passed.
He could've sworn those grey hairs at his temples hadn't been there yesterday. "Not even thirty and already going grey," he muttered. He hadn't had a chance to shave since they arrived two nights ago, he hadn't slept for seventy hours straight land... Well, the sling only completely the look.
He was going to sleep for a week when they got back.
With his good arm, he dug for his keys in one of his numerous pockets and offered them to Kat.
"You up for driving?"

His wristwatch read 8;47am.
He'd said he'd stay out until nine, but there was nothing here.
He'd gotten out and walked the surrounding area twice, each time almost swallowed by the urge to follow the black mitt's paw prints, but resisting each time. Just. In defence of the monsters plaguing the little city, the kill instinct was hard to resist.
Now the wristwatch said 8;50am. Teddy sighed and turned to return to the pickup truck.
Now, he could've driven straight to the cabin. But at the thought of the empty cupboards - they'd only brought non-perishables and long life food, naturally - he turned the vehicle and headed for town instead. He'd seen a grocery store right next to the cafe where he'd run in Aurora. And, after all, he had to get those werewolf gashes checked out, too. Preferably before D'Arc or Kat saw them.
The ER nurses cringed when they got him into an examination room. But they stitched them up without asking too many questions and sent him on his way with instructions to take it easy. If they were still sore later, take some ibuprofen. He thanked them and left the hospital, pretending to ignore the anxious muttering between the nurses he left behind.
By ten, he was pushing open the door to the grocery store with a small grunt of effort and grabbing a basket. Milk, eggs, fresh vegetables. Milk, eggs, fresh vegetables. Mi-
"Oh, god, sorry!"
He jumped to one side, narrowly missing the woman he'd almost walked into and immediately launching into "apologetic citizen" mode.
"I'm really, really, very sorry, ma'am. Did I hurt you, at all?"
