Pʀɪɴᴄᴇ Aᴇʀᴏɴ ᴏғ Sᴇᴜʟɢʜᴇᴍ
currently;; sparring with Alvere | tagged;; Alvere,
Aeron's strike was met with cold steel as Alvere dropped expertly, blocking the attack. One precise flick of the wrist sent them both free from the stalemate. Aeron drew Widowmaker back to his side as Alvere straightened - an irritating grin on his face.
Clearly, Alvere's words struck the right nerve, and Aeron raised an eyebrow; allowing a chuckle of air escape his lips. In fact, they were close enough to the Royalty box that his father had heard - judging by the amused look on his face.
Aeron snorted, with every bit of the aforementioned arrogance, "I have plenty of skills, but I'm saving them for the actual tournament." Aeron had every intention of winning - or at least coming a close second, "This is just me going easy on you!" The Prince took a moment to look around, eying his surroundings. The field had filled up rapidly in the last ten minutes or so. This was easily one of the largest tournaments he'd partaken in. The few others that had been warming up were beginning to make their way back to the various benches and tents.
Instead of raising it, Aeron lowered his blade; tossing it into his left hand. The tournament looked to be starting soon, so they'd have to cut their sparring short. Aeron had a rose to present, and in the Princess's absense, he would either have to give it to the Queen of Istoth, his mother or some random wench. He knew which he preferred. The Prince took a few steps forward, offering his right hand out to Alvere. With a smirk on his lips, and a humorous - yet competitive - tone, he stated, "Let the best man win!"

Alvere touched the tip of his sword to his forehead in a salute before replacing it with a grating of steel into the leather scabbard at his hip. With his now free hand - and having no need for his sword now that it seemed their sparring had drawn to a close due to the arrival of many spectators - the Guard clasped Aeron's in a firm grip and shook it, grinning widely.
"I'll see you when I've won, then?" He asked, and quickly retrieved both his hat and the rose. The hat was placed on his head and immediately it shielded his dark eyes from the brightening glare of the sun. A fine day, a perfect day to hold a tournament. Handing the white rose back over, he jerked his head towards the Royal Box. "Who are you going to give that flower to in the Princess' absence? Personally, I'd give it to the Istoth Queen."

Once again, she finished practicing and keeping herself warmed up. Deciding a bit of a stroll would be nice, she sheathed her sword and set off around the tournament grounds. It wasn't like she never was able to casually stroll around the kingdom, but for once she could without looking so discreet with a cloak and hood hiding her being. She still had to wear a helmet, despite the fact that no one knew what she looked like, just to be safe.
The young girl, or young boy depending on how closely you looked at her body (though she now began to wish she hadn't worn a corset), entered the tournament courtyard. However, a cluster of hotheaded men came bustling through and knocked her over, and she found herself being pushed into someone (Evan). Gaining her balance, she cleared her throat, trying to find whomever she knocked over. "My apologies," she murmured, lowering her voice like the man she had spoken to earlier advised her to.

Evangeline had just been about to draw her sword when she felt a force bump into her from behind. Knocked to the ground, because despite her good balance, Evangeline was only a few inches over five feet, she felt the wind knocked out of her. It hurt, but not nearly as much as it could have, what with her thick layers of leather armor. The padding was light for proper and speedy movement, but it was still decent protection, obvious from the dullness of the pain and shock of being shoved harshly to the ground. Hoping it was an accident and not someone attacking her for suspecting her of being a woman in disguise, Evangeline cleared her throat and tried to act not like an aloof princess, but like a passionate man. Standing up and brushing herself off, she was about to confront the boy who had knocked her over. However, she quickly shut her mouth when she realized that it was actually a girl. Huh. She's not trying to hide it nearly as much as I am, Evangeline grinned to herself, eyeing the girl. Evangeline couldn't really make out her face, considering the helmet shadowing over her features, but Evangeline could care less. She was just happy she wasn't the only woman here, although of course, she couldn't be nearly as open as the girl who had bumped into her. The girl probably wasn't the princess of Istoth, who was supposed to be allowing Prince Aeron to be her "champion" for the tournament. Instead, Evangeline was here to kick his sorry *ss and to prove to her parents that she could take care of herself, and rightly so.
“It's quite all right," Evangeline insisted, drawing the helmet lower on her head to prevent the girl from seeing her face too clearly. Speaking in a lower, gruffer voice, Evangeline hoped her facade wasn't too obvious. "We should go ahead with the others; we'll be starting soon, then."

currently;; schmoozing with the istothian royals | tagged;; Alvere,
Aeron grinned. Psh. The only person to win today would be himself. Aeron followed his friend back over to the stands, taking the rose as it was offered to him. He snorted glancing down at the floor. He would much, much rather present the rose to one of the young wenches standing around the sides. Presenting the rose to a pretty young maiden almost always guaranteed a nighttime rendezvous. However, where there was a certain level of political tactics involved, Aeron simply had to swallow his pride. "I'll let you know how it goes."
Twirling the rose in his hand, Aeron approached the Royalty Box; bowing low infront of the Royals. Carefully, he avoided his father's scrupulous gaze and lifted the rose towards the Queen Of Istoth, "It is my greatest regret that your daughter was unable to attend the festivities today, Your HIghness." he paused, "In her absense, I present to you a rose of pure white to reflect your beauty. May I be so humble as to ask if I may be your champion?". It was a lot more wordy than usual, and less filled with flattery; but with her husband sat next to her, Aeron couldn't use his usual lines.
The Queen took the rose from him silently, with a small smile, and carefully produced a small handkerchief. The Istoth sigil was embroidered delicately on the corner. She gestured for him to step closer and rose, tying the token around his upper right arm; so that the Istoth crest showed clearly. She sat back down and nodded. Aeron bowed once again before turning away and shrivelling his nose slightly. Slowly, the Prince made his way back over to his friend, "First time I've fought with Istoth colours." his tone was slightly petulant.

Regretfully, Val closed her book. It was nearing the start of the tournament, and missing the beginning wouldn't make a good impression. She stood up, habitually smoothing out the front of her dress. Hoping she would get there in time to find a good seat -meaning somewhere in the back where people couldn't see her reading-, the small redhead left her room and glided down the hallways. Having stowed her book in a nondescript bag, Val exited the palace and headed towards the tournament grounds.
Sliding around to the seating area, Valoria walked down the aisle as quickly as she could without seeming rushed. Finding a seat right next to the royalty box, she sat down. Hopefully, spectators would rather watch the kings and queens, their eyes sliding right over the small young lady who happened to be seated nearby. As the stands filled up, Val noted with a smile of relief she had arrived at the perfect time. Taking a look around to insure nobody was watching, Val pulled her book out and opened its cover, once more lost to the pages.

The Royal Guard watched in silence as the crown prince of his kingdom head over towards the royal box and then present his beautiful white rose to the Istoth Queen in a sign of peace and, of course, he had no one else of respectful rank to offer it to in the absence of the princess. Alvere smirked. It was quite amusing to watch his friend stand still as the fabric was tied to his arm, not too tight.
"Too bad. I think everyone knows who you really are, however." He responded with a shake of his head, grinning at his friend's unhappiness. "And now you've got to make sure you win, all for the dear Queen. I'm not giving you an easy time though. You've got to work for it!" Giving Aeron a friendly push to the shoulder, Alvere now turned his head to the courtyard. Some noble or judge or whatever had walked into the center and declared the tournament open. Alvere touched his fingers to the rim of his hat. "May the best man win, eh?" A quick nod and he was up, striding away as his name was called.

After the girl left him, he stayed standing for a bit. His eyes scanned the stands, landing on the Royal box. Evan wasn't there yet, but he did see Val sitting next to it. She didn't seem to be paying attention, but that just made him grin a bit. That was who she was, and he was starting to really see her as a friend. His eyes soon left her and continued their roaming, a bit of him still hoping that the princess would be watching. Knowing her, she was either watching from the castle roof or she was in disguise in order to not wear a dress.
After a bit, a noble stepped into the middle of the open area and gained the attention of those near him by announcing the start of the tournament. The first name called was Alvere. The second name called was his. Grumbling a bit, he strode towards the arena all the same. To be fair to the other competitors, he would only be using one of his short swords. If he was to use two, he would overpower any of the single-sworded men he would be facing.
Once in the arena, he pulled out his right-handed blade and spun it once, nodding over to Alvere. "Well well. I'm glad to see that your arm is doing better. If it wasn't, I might be tempted to challenge you with both of my short swords." He smirked a bit at the man opposite him, coming to a stop and glancing at the noble that had called his name.
