"ugh, right." roman had already forgotten about "jobs," despite it being the front for his entire relationship with his human. he had finagled his way into the manager position at some bar near his building where amber was conveniently a bartender. this meeting was supposed to be work-related, but to be frank, he didn't even care to memorize the bar's name yet, let alone figure out what humans usually discussed at "meetings." "at least you get saturdays off. i think this is supposed to be the busiest time of the humans' lunar cycle for me. the weekend." he managed to shudder at the thought just before his attention was drawn to the front door, where a sopping figure stood drying her shoes off on the doormat. he heaved a sigh, "speak of the devi──er, human."

lips pursed, roman analyzed the human before him and raphael as she explained, apologized, and justified her tardiness. he rolled his eyes halfway through and motioned for her to join them on the couch. "yeah, whatever. this is raphael." he shuffled himself over a bit to make room for amber. "raphael, amber. amber, raph. she's an employee at my, uh, bar." "maybe you should dry off first." he eyed her dripping jacket and glanced at a nearby coat rack. hopefully she would take the bait and give him a chance to concoct a reason for the meeting. since amber (and literally every one of his employees) had worked there much longer than him, perhaps he could gauge her opinion of the workplace and dig up information on what the point of bars even were. surely they weren't just for drinking and socializing. what a waste of real estate that would be.

"we can talk about your time at the bar when you're settled. you're one of the oldest employees and i would really value your opinion on any changes we could make." wow. roman's eyes widened slightly, surprised at how convincing he sounded while having the literal bare minimum of knowledge on the subjects of jobs, employees, and even basic human socialization. he quickly hid his tiny smile, sneaking a glance at raphael beside him as if to ask, pretty good, right?

[β˜… ─── NADIA ] 1

Nadia groaned as the pounding at her door matched the one in her head. She opened her eyes and instantly regretted it, as a stinging pain shot through them. She quickly closed her eyes and pushed her palms against them as she sat up. Little bits and pieces of memories flooded her mind, and she could feel a lump of regret forming in her throat as more and more appeared. She then heard her door open, and the sound of someone entering rang through her ears. Putting her arms down, she pressed her hands into the mattress, as she opened her eyes. Before her stood her roommate. Grace was a 21 year old studying for a degree in education, which was probably the most ridiculous thing you’d ever heard if you actually knew Grace. She was probably the only person who could keep up with Nadia’s partying habits, which wasn’t a good thing. The girl has caramel skin and black curly hair that was so shiny it was hard to not get jealous of. Currently, Grace sported a wicked grin and laughing eyes as she caught sight of what Nadia looked like.

β€œWow, you look like a wreck,” Grace laughed as she stared at Nadia's disheveled appearance. Nadia would totally slap her if she didn't feel like her head was about to explode. β€œWell. Get up! It’s about time you're awake. I was thinking we could ditch class and head to that coffee place I was telling you about yesterday?”

Nadia couldn’t even remember half of what happened yesterday. It was all a blur. Looking down at herself, the short black dress she hadn’t bothered to take off last night apparently was torn and wrinkled. The sight of it definitely brought back some memories, and Nadia much rather would have done without them as she felt like she was going to vomit. Nonetheless, she pushed through the pain and laughed up at her friend. β€œI’m the wreck? You should have seen yourself last night. And anyways. I have an important class today Grace. My professor would kill me if I’m late again, I have to practice for the final we have coming up,” she said while throwing her feet off the side of the bed. Grace groaned frustratedly and turned away as Nadia shimmied out of the dress and put on a fresh pair of clothes. She wasn’t going to bother to shower, even if her hair brown waves probably needed it.

β€œOh come on. Who cares about what that old bat says. You’re like, the best dancer ever. You don’t need anymore practice. Come on! The coffee shop has amazing donuts,” Grace said, the last part a little tauntingly. Nadia grinned, impulsivity seeping into her, and last night's guilt fading away as she finished getting dressed. She threw her hair into a ponytail, not even going to bother with the messy waves, and grabbing an umbrella to protect them from the weather.

β€œLet's go,” she said, the high of doing something wrong making her fingers tingle. Grace giggled, and grabbed her things, before dragging a laughing Nadia out of the small and crappy apartment flat. Grace led the way holding the umbrella, chattering along about nothing important. Nadia’s mind wandered, and she remembered she had to visit the hospital soon. She hated going to hospitals, they brought up so many bad memories. But she hadn’t seen her mom in so long. She wondered what her mom would think if she saw her only daughter like this. Ditching class for coffee, and partying all night to forget the day. She was brought out of her train of thought by being yanked to the right, and almost tripping over her own feet as she tried to steady herself. She felt her stomach turn, and she prayed she didn't throw up as she look up at the building in front of them.

β€œWe’re here!” Grace said while gesturing to the coffee shop. It wasn’t anything impressive. In fact, it didn’t have many people inside, and it was quite small. Nadia was about to walk in, until Grace looked down at her phone as a panicked expression washed over her face. β€œOh no..I totally forgot I own Xavier some money. I’ll catch ya later!” Grace said, shoving the umbrella into Nadia's hands before turning on her heels and speeding away in the opposite direction. Nadia could feel her face form into an irritated scowl. Of course she would ditch her. It wouldn’t be the first time she just got up and left. She felt shame and guilt seep back into her stomach as she tried to will her headache away. It was way too late for her to try and make it to her class. Even if she did make it, no way would her professor let her in after being late for what was probably the millionth time this week. Grace would so pay for this later. Sunlight peeked through the clouds, and Nadia could feel her eyes beginning to sting. At least the sun was coming out, she thought sarcastically. Nadia turned roughly back to the coffee shop's entrance, and with a scowl on her face she pushed open the door roughly. Deciding that she was just going to drown her sorrows in coffee and donuts that probably ruined her diet.

(wow this is a long first post..sorry for that o.o)

indentRaphael had to bite back a chuckle as Roman's human charge joined them at last. The other was a much better liar than him, that was for sure. He found it amusing that Roman had chosen to use a different name for him. Why on Earth had he chosen to call him Gabriel, of all things? The more he thought about it, the more his grin grew, which he tried to pass off as a welcoming smile. If the real Gabriel had been there to witness it, Raphael would not have been able to control his laughter. He coughed quietly, trying to settle the laughter bubbling up in his throat, and nodded in greeting. The bell to the shop rang again, drawing his gaze to the door. He froze, eyes widening slightly. It was her; the girl he had been looking for. He didn't know how he knew, as he had been told little to nothing about her, but inside he was certain of it. He stood up and quickly gathered his things, keeping one eye on Nadia the whole time. The last thing he needed was her slipping out before he could talk to her. "It's been nice talking to you but I'm afraid I have to take my leave." With that, he stumbled over the coffee table and hurried towards his charge. 'Smooth, really smooth...' He thought. As he grew closer and closer, his nervousness grew as well. What was he going to say to her? How could he introduce himself without coming across as awkward or creepy?
indent The angel stopped next to her, trying to calm his nerves. He kept his gaze averted, pretending to be looking at the menu. He had played through what he was going to do when he found the girl countless times. However, now that it was actually happening, he felt stuck. He just couldn't push the words out of his mouth. However, it seemed that he still had a little luck on his side, as the worker came out of the employee lounge and smiled at him. "Back for more?" She laughed. Raphael smiled nervously, a small laugh of his own slipping out. "You know me. Can I get another green tea doughnut to go?" His eyes flickered over to Nadia before moving back to the worker. It was now or never. "Oh, and get her whatever she likes."

───── ( ο½’ο½‰ο½Ž ! ) ─────────────
x"i miss people ;(". milo, adrian, michael .
───────────────────────────

xxpulling away his water bottle, rin shook out his legs, the cold creeping into his shoes and numbing his toes. he loved going on jogs in the morning but he was starting to regret not having left a little later in the day where it might've been warmer. new yorks weather was never predictable so it might've actually gotten worse throughout the day, but it didn't wipe the pout from his face. then, as if someone had heard his moping thoughts, the rain lightened until it no longer existed and small rays of sunshine dared to come out. oh sweet, he thought as he glanced up, mildly surprised that the rays were pushing through the dark gray clouds looming over the city. this should hopefully keep the rest of his jog dry.
xxturning his gaze back towards where he had seen the dog, he was surprised to see it had moved farther away and was not near its owner any longer, but rather by a tall man who was now bending down to give him pets. Tipping his head to the side and squinting his eyes, rin was pretty sure he recognized the stance and general physique of the man but he didn't have the confidence to saunter over and interject himself into the conversation that was now happening between the dog's owner and the same guy. instead, he pulled out his phone and found the contact bestest bud and texted his very good friend Milo: hey- random question but do you happen to be in central park petting a very large black and white dog.
xxgiving one more glance towards the pair and the dog, rin bounced on the ball of his feet before deciding to continue along the path he was jogging down. if it was milo, maybe they could catch up at the bakery on the east corner of the park- or rin could just come back if he needed to. plus he was only walking now so it didn't mean he was going to get too far. darn his poor vision, maybe it had been milo. he hadn't seen the other in a bit and he missed hanging to with him. the two of them together were a chaotic duo that tended to drum up a storm whenever they were at social events.
xxcome to think of it, rin really just missed seeing all of his friends. he had been extremely busy with work and his art gallery showing that he hadn't had time to enjoy being 23. well... except for last night when he had gone out to a bar, had too much to drink and then ended up pouring his heart into a karaoke song with some unknown girl. but that didn't change the fact that he hadn't really hung out with anyone in a while. pulling out his phone as he walked, he opened up his text messages and sent out another text, this time to adrian. hey, we havent hung out in a while- what're your plans for today :^)
pocketing his phone, rin managed to just barely stop himself short of running into a woman, tilting slightly forward on his toes as he braked suddenly. "ahh im so sorry he said quickly, a light pink tinge taking over his face. this is why yuki always tells me not to text and walk, he thought, memories of his sister mocking his lack of awareness while he was on his phone. "i didn't see you there, he muttered out, clearing his throat in a weak attempt to regain his composure.

Amber opened her mouth to speak, but closed it just as quickly. She really wasn't being the most employable person in the universe at the moment if the rolling of eyes was anything to go by, and the girl thanked the heavens for already having this job almost four years now, otherwise she'd already be in a puddle on the floor by now. Perhaps the only things keeping her on her feet was knowing the bar patrons would throw a fit if they fired her, especially the Saturday and oddly enough Thursday crowd, and pure spite. Amber was generally a more gentle hearted person, however change never, ever settled well with her. And an entire shift in management may as well have been the textbook definition. Learning his policies, his schedule, his procedure-ugh. But she promised her old boss she'd try; he knew how set she always was in the ways of the place: it was her constant.
More constant than the rest of her life. Originally, it'd been a survival job, but within months it became something far almost sacred: somewhere where she came to do her job, to socialize with people who sat with the same people and ordered the same drinks. But her old boss had been a bit on the more abrasive side too. She wouldn't have even known what to do if he came up to her with a smile on his face. "Nice to meet you," Amber started off with, smiling softly as she began to approach the couch, but stopped just as quickly when he gestured to the coat she was wearing. "Yeah, it's raining cats and dogs outside, as I'm sure you noticed, too," She gestured out the window, lip moving between her teeth. "I'll be right back. Nice to meet you, Sir," She acknowledged the other man as he hurried past her.
Amber gave Roman's statement a small nod of acknowledgment, moving to slide the jacket off her shoulders and onto the rack delicately, wiping her lightly bleeding finger on its fabric as her back was turned, and only turning back towards him once she once again accepted the fact this man did not seem tempted to fire her. In fact, he wanted to ask her on opinions of this place. Slowly, she sat down next to him, although nearly on the opposite end of the couch. It was almost comedic how much distance she put between them, given she let people put her tips in the straps of her overalls enough times it became an inside joke between them. "Okay, hm, what to change..." Amber trailed off slightly, because she couldn't just look at this guy and tell him everything needed to stay the exact same, no matter how much she desired that reality. "I've been working there almost four years. As long as it has been legal for me to work there, really. Used to be more...not bartending, though," Amber explained with a small shrug, studying this man who seemed as studiously investigating her as she was to him. "What were you thinking on new ideas?" She asked with a small tilt of her head.

dammit. trying not to show his discomfort, roman cleared his throat and lightly shook his head. me? ME? why would she ask ME? the jig was nearly up as quickly as it started. with a quick breath, he offered the smallest smile and focused his gaze directly to amber. "n-no, no, i really wanted to give you this opportunity to give me your honest thoughts on the place." he glanced away for a second to compose himself and hide the disdain he was feeling toward the human race. why do they ask so many questions? why do they answer questions with more questions? how is that efficient for anyone? he scoffed to himself before turning back to amber.

"i don't mean to put you on the spot. maybe you can tell me how the old manager ran things? anything that could be improved? anything that worked really well?" now he was starting to sound just like a human with all the rambling. get it together, ramiel, he internally hissed at himself, you're already losing it! it's day one! okay──okay, i got this. "oh, uh, sorry. i didn't offer you anything. do you want a drink or something? tea, maybe?" he hoped she'd agree──he'd heard a lot of humans drinking warm drinks when the weather was despicable. he would also get the chance to escape the awkward cloud he'd just created. how could he possibly withstand the saturday rush at the bar later if a simple conversation with a single human made him this uncomfortable and──gulp──sweaty??

indentariel observed the man curiously. each and every human she meets is interesting to her. they're all physically different, and also seem to be emotionally different in some cases, too. he was rather pleasant on the eyes but ariel thought that way about most humans. she was not necessarily judgmental nor did she have ordinary human social standards stomped inside her brain that would make her think any differently. after all, they are god's creations like all creatures on earth. she was rather surprised when he leaned up to his full height, not really expecting him to be so tall. she wasn't sure why she thought that; she seemed to be smaller than a lot of people. not much of a conventional guardian although she knew that her mission was more along the lines of emotionally and spiritually guiding her charge, helping them from straying onto a path of sin and suffering. and quite frankly, she was pretty good at that sort of thing. even if she was not quite physically able, that still didn't mean she wouldn't try and protect her charge - or any human - from some sort of threat like a demon. she noted that he had taken a step back - most likely to give her space- and she appreciated that, although she wasn't sure she felt necessarily intimidated by him. caution as was in her nature, yes but not fear did not make a common presence. if he had ill intentions, she'd probably be able to sense that. but she didn't feel that coming from him.
indentstill, she felt her face flush when she noticed his eyes lingering on her. sometimes she could be at a loss of words when it came to conversations. generally, people don't appreciate an immediate clinginess and nosiness about their personal feelings from a stranger and since that type of talk is the type of talk ariel is best at, she was often left at a loss for words. strangers probably don't appreciate being bombarded with soul-searching questions even though to ariel, humans don't have time to waste brooding and letting their problems fester. she could tell he had been lost in thought moments prior before she interrupted. thunder rolled back over onto his stomach, content to lie in the dirt now. great, getting him to move would be like moving a boulder. he was stubborn when he was feeling lazy. but there was no harm in the man petting her dog. it's not like he had any bad intentions. the tennis ball most likely rolled near him while he was walking along the sidewalk, practically opening an invitation between him and thunder. she nodded at his question. "heh, yes, he's my dog. his name is thunder." the great dane barked again, letting go of his ball and watching it roll away a few meters before it stopped. he didn't seem to want to go after it, instead opting to lie back down near the man's feet. "i think he likes you."
indentnot wanting him to feel like he was somehow in the wrong, she gave him a reassuring smile. "but it's alright, no harm no foul. he's off of his leash, anyway, i'd be an idiot to expect him not to run into someone." while most of her interactions with humans have been pleasant so far, she's also had her fair share of being yelled at while out in public. sometimes, elderly couples walking through central park would get mad at her for not having thunder on a leash while playing ball, as they seem to think he's going to randomly attack someone. she could understand the concern but why would she be daft enough to let a dog off of its leash if it's not generally friendly? she usually ends up exasperated in the face of an argument, still not used to such rash hostility after having spent so long in heaven but she also got pretty defensive, too.
indentshe took a step forward to hook thunder's leash onto his collar, not wanting him to suddenly get a random burst of energy and try to run off. not that she'd be able to stop him, he weighed much more than her and could probably drag her across central park if he wanted to. just her luck. so far, no success in finding her charge and then having to wrangle with thunder whenever he got rowdy. she wondered if the other angels were having better luck than her in finding their humans. so far, it's felt like she's been wandering through the dark with no light to help guide her. when she leaned up, though, she had to shuffle back a bit, not wanting to accidentally impede in the man's personal space. she noted that her head was just merely to his shoulder so he could probably hoist her like a grocery bag if he wanted to.
indent"i'm ariel, by the way," she introduced herself cordially, extending a hand towards him to shake in greeting and in hopes that would make things less awkward and hopefully reassure him she wasn't somehow hostile towards him for greeting her pet. originally, ariel had tried to go by a human alias but quickly faltered when she forgot to respond to said name in many cases or write it down, so she opted to just go with her true name. not like anyone was going to discover who she really is... right?

Amber paused for a moment in the same way he did: a bit like a deer in headlights, even, as if she certainly didn't expect him to care. Her fingers gingerly tapped at her thighs, humming softly. "Hm, is it cheesy to say I love that place?" Amber inquired softly, giving a cheeky smile. "It's not a very rowdy crowd, the staff is nice, the drinks are complex but not easy to mess up. It's all a good balance," She told him seriously, contemplatively, and bit the inside of her cheek. Was there a wrong answer? Was that even possible? There were a lot of things Amber would consider herself, but a worrier generally wasn't one of them. Perhaps it was the stakes: this was, at this point, her livelihood. This was what she did nearly every day of her life now, and the nights she wasn't working were at least half the time spent there anyhow, sitting at the corner of the bar and chatting with her coworkers.
"Uh, well..." Amber didn't even know where to start, but eyed him with a hint of wariness. She took a pause, picking apart each of his questions. "Thing are always super consistent on weekdays; it's always the same crowd. They are really good people. I work only evening and night shifts because I have class and whatnot, but it's pretty standard. The whole clean everything off, sanitize, get the bouncer, open, and let the night run. The Saturday crowd is a bit rowdy, but there are no, like, mean people or anything. Friday nights though? Horrible," She explained with a somewhat bitter laugh. The amount of people she had to essentially police was mind-boggling. There would be college students definitely not old enough who screamed when you pointed out the X's on their hands or their fake IDs, or at least one handsy patron, or even a fight or two every month. "It's not run down, but it can be a bit of a hole in the wall type atmosphere sometimes. Still, it makes really good profits from what I see, anyway," Truthfully, the place was one of the most popular in the borough. It wasn't high-end in terms of skyline view or flashiness, but there was still a kind of risque vibe to the whole place, where bartenders were flirting and flaunting for tips and there would be instances of people getting a bit too frisky in the bathrooms or on the dance floor, but that was never of her concern. "I think the number one issue, if I had to pick something, is the Friday crowd or some...inappropriate things that occur on the dance floor area," Her cheeks went pink at the mention of it, ducking her head. "Some new drinks could be fun. Just to give the younger crowd something fun or colorful to go for. We have all the drinks to make them, but we never put them on the menu," She explained to the best of her ability, more than a little thankful he offered her a drink, to which she nodded eagerly. "Just, like tea would be great. If they have lavender, that would be great. Thank you," She nodded, thankful for his brief departure so she could gather her wits. It was in custom to ask your boss about their life, wasn't it? But geez, she needed to actually remember how to breathe in order to ask anything.

he quickened his pace as he rounded another bend, glancing down at the groceries he carried. though he wanted to relax a bit and enjoy the walk through the park, he really didn't want his ice cream melting or his mozzarella sticks defrosting. adrian made sure to avoid stepping in the mud puddles that lined the sides of the path, but his luck seemed to dwindle as he lost his grip on the sidewalk and crashed down into a pool of water with a startled yelp. a few of the people around him let out sympathetic gasps or amused chuckles, causing his cheeks to heat up with humiliation.
he slowly stood back up, shoving a few of the items that had fallen out back into the cheap plastic bags that had been provided by the store. his jeans were now waterlogged, and they rubbed uncomfortably up against his legs. adrian shuffled in discomfort.
he removed his phone from his pocket as it vibrated, the screen lighting up with a text message from rin. he used his hoodie sleeve to wipe water droplets from the screen before opening up imessage and sending a reply.
i don't have anything planned for today (: fell in a puddle though lol. gonna get changed but maybe we can meet up somewhere?
he hit send and then shoved his phone back into his pocket, readjusting his grip on the grocery bags. as he walked the rest of the way to his apartment, adrian was much more careful about where he was walking, and managed not to fall into any more puddles.
goose greeted him at the door, trailing after him as he entered the kitchen and began placing groceries into their appropriate places.
he then changed into a dry pair of sweatpants, tossing the soggy jeans into his hamper.
sighing, adrian settled down on his small sofa with the large tub of fudge ice cream he'd purchased. he scoffed in disappointment as he peeled the lid back to reveal the semi-melted substance. goose jumped up onto the armrest beside adrian, eyeing the ice cream curiously before tucking his paws beneath his chest with a yawn.
scooping up a spoonful of the ice cream, adrian shoved it into his mouth, eyes locked on his phone as he scrolled through instagram.
