xxxxxthe change took over cole's expression quickly, and saidi couldn't help but roll her eyes and look away in an angry moment. he was incredulous - unbelievable and the worst. she crossed her arms neatly over her chest, staring at him once more as he paid the bartender what he owed and then some. "cole, i'm ninety per cent certain the other agents are here by now, if you want to get over your oestrogen for a scarce moment. let's go find rei and mort." her tone was almost pleading, but she tried not to let that show too much. cole scared the all hells out of her, but at times she found herself admiring the man.
xxxxxsaidi snorted at his comment, sighing gently to relax herself. "and so we do." it took her a long moment of debating inwardly before she spoke up again, her slightly elongated canines toying with her bottom lip.
xxxxx"not the popular opinion, but i saw we leave the bar and wander until rei or mort shows up, or even better, one of our idiot blood donors. then we whip ass on them." it was a suggestion, really, and a broad plan at that. saidi had a few weapons - but not many. a dagger hidden in its sheath, and a pistol at its holster. nothing more, nothing less. she looked cole in the eyes, her own pair narrowing when she began to talk again. "but keep one of them alive - for testing." she meant the vampire, but cole didn't know that. the pureblooded vampire, to her, was the most important thing in this mission. not his death.

Cole nodded. He hadn't spotted any of the agents while he was out wandering, so Saidi's advice was probably all they had to go on. He considered calling Rei on the tiny cell phone stuffed into his pocket next to the pistol holster tucked under his jacket. Probably not the best idea, but worth a shot. He still hadn't decided whether his ribs were broken or bruised, but he figured that it wasn't worth finding out the hard way when Rei jabbed him in the side after alerting everyone in the area to her presence with a loud ring of the emergency phone.

Once again, his thoughts settled on Jackson. His file was the only one he'd bothered to properly read, since Cole was really only here on body guard duty, anyway. Just some old jar head from the marines who just happened to have a sweet mutation. Like one of those chickens he'd seen on TV, injected with hormones to grow fast enough to be useful, then put to use when the time was right. As far as he knew, Jackson wasn't cumbersome the way that Cole was. He was intelligent, so long as his other personality didn't take over his body.

"Good thinking, Batgirl." He nodded. He noticed her flinch as he stood, and winced inwardly. He forgot how physically intimidating he was these days. He knew he had an attitude, which couldn't help either. "Shall we roll out then?"

harley curtis . the vampire

Postby daz » Tue Nov 17, 2015 6:11 pm

harley
the vampire . pansexual . location;; town . tag{s};; esmeree
─────────────────────────────────

harley stood rigid amongst the shadows, his back plastered to the wall. he splayed his fingers out against the brick, lightly smoothing his hands over it. somehow, he found comfort in the thick, hard material. he gnawed on his lip, getting a startling sick sensation in his stomach. he wasn't too positive on why, but he could likely take an educated guess. either because he didn't want to kill anyone, or because he had so little nutrients in his body he was beginning to falter. but now, he found he didn't even care. he had already made up his mind, and he desperately wanted to sink his teeth into this "shapeshifter's" flesh. in fact, he was preparing himself to strike when the female called out. his breath caught in his throat, and once again he went completely still. his reddened eyes narrowed, focusing on the figure before him. she didn't appear as threatening as she was attempting to make herself, but he was educated enough to be wary. if she harmed him, it would take a fair amount of time before he healed. but she'd called him a leech, which was one of the most harrowing insults in the book for vampires! he couldn't simply allow the insult to slide and not harm her. but something about her screamed danger, and that he needed to turn back while he still could.

despite having gone through such an extreme amount of thought, harley still didn't listen to himself. he, instead, stepped forward. he allowed one of his long legs to cross out of the shadows, and further into the light. eventually, he coaxed the rest of his figure from the darkness and fully revealed himself to the female before him. he was much taller than her, but that wouldn't be the most intimidating thing about him. it was likely his overly sharpened canines, jutting out from between his teeth viciously. they had a mind of their own sometimes, and would nearly force him to inject them into something's flesh. sadly, he might accidentally plunge the needle-like teeth into her before he got much of a conversation going.

"do you really wish to challenge me, shapeshifter?" he cockily responded, his head falling to the side a tad. to be entirely frank, he hadn't the faintest clue what he intended to do. he wasn't really trying to frighten her, nor was he hoping to take a bite out of her. his best option would've been to run away while he had the chance, but he didn't quite realize there was potential danger the longer he remained. he merely assumed this stranger was an actual shapeshifter, and that she wasn't injected with the priceless blood. he was oblivious to the agents and their cruel schemes, and the fact there was a hybrid human with his blood nearby. harley's lack of knowledge wasn't too helpful. but lucky for him, he was clever. it might not take too long for him to discover things weren't as they seemed before.

xxxxx"Let's." She gave a wary smile at him, walking for the exit of the bar. Saidi had an array of nicknames, but never before had she been called 'Batgirl'. A new one, and one she didn't necessarily care for. Not that Cole would stop calling her that if she told him this. If anything, he'd only persist. Saidi glanced back over her shoulder to see that Cole was following as she stepped onto the street, eyes narrowing against the light of the street.
xxxxx"So I was thinking," she began, her voice quiet as her eyes adjusted to the dark, picking apart the shadows. "First we'll find Rei and Mort, then we can scope out the town. I think-" She stopped herself when she heard voices not too far off. Her mouth opened briefly, and she looked back again at Cole. It was Esmeree. Saidi silently wondered if Cole knew this, too. "Phase one complete?" She said with an offered shrug. She turned back, picking up her pace to walk over to where Rei was talking with some man. Her eyes narrowed only slightly at the werewolf.
xxxxx"Rei," she spoke out to the werewolf, her eyes nervous on the stranger that Rei had been speaking with. She looked to him, smiling widely, baring teeth - and the two longer/sharper canines she possessed. Not necessarily a threat, but just to show that it was clear to both the man and Rei that she was in charge. "Pardon my friend, we need to leave. Now." There was zero negotiation in her tone.

the werewolf agent || location; in town || tagged; Harley, Saidi, Cole

    ════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

Movement from a particular shadow caught her attention. There had been no vocalization to announce the entrance, but Rei didn't need anything like that. He stepped out almost cautiously it seemed, but perhaps he was just trying to exemplify an effect or whatnot. Either way, it gave Esmeree plenty of time to focus her attention on the incoming vamp. She turned her torso to face him, chin rising as she steadied herself into a glower. The guy was taller than she'd expected him to but, but looked fairly similar to what she'd seen in the blurry photo. Though in that one she hadn't been able to take notice of the two little pointy teeth poking between his lips, for the quality had been too poor for her to notice them.

Having her focus now pinned on him entirely, Rei felt a hot bubble of anger rise from her chest and towards her throat. Now was the time. Now was the opportunity. Would she ever get something like this again? Her only problem was that they were in public, but that issue was slowly starting to feel less and less threatening to her. Soon she was questioning why she'd ever hesitated because of it at all. So what if a big old wolf just came stomping through town? No biggie, right? Happens all the time. How badly Rei wanted to. At this point she was just trying to find excuses not to. There were hardly any.

Her teeth gritted together at his response. It was too calm for her to like. She wanted something a little angrier, a little more expressive. Lowly growling to herself, she threw the bag off of her shoulder and let it slap the ground at her feet. "You really wanna taunt me, Vlad?" She snarled back, voice rising to volume that threatened to label itself as a yell. Of course she knew his name was not Vlad or Vladimir, but it had that vampiric ring to it in the bells of history. If it went way over his head, well... at least she'd enjoyed it a little bit. But rather than dwelling on if it was worth saying on not, she shoved the thought aside and continued. "What are you waiting for? Let's go; right here, right now." There was no backing out of it now. The others no longer mattered to her. The mission itself no longer mattered to her. This vampire was going to die, and it didn't even matter that he was a designated target. No, she wasn't going to take the time to just knock him out and drag him back alive for testing or questioning or whatever they wanted to do with him. He was going to die, and that was all there was to it. That was the plan. Screw the town. Screw the rumors. Screw the mission. Screw the other agents. Screw it all. Rei was driven fiercely by nothing but blood instinct, and at this point, she couldn't stop it if she wanted to.

Her eyes were already going yellow by the time Saidi showed up. The shift was never a glorious process - it involved a lot of bone movements and awkward proportional changes, but usually only took a second or even a half when she was angry. She could feel the way her spine was poised to change, her teeth had stretched in a way that didn't belong in the jaw of a human. The only reason she stopped before anything drastic changed was because she heard her name, of all things, being called. A wave of irritation rolled through her, but she restored her original features within the next few seconds, none too happily, of course. Why did they have to show up now? She'd been ready to go! She would've gotten this all taken care of! Must they interrupt?

Rei scowled when Saidi mentioned that they were leaving. "Leaving? Excuse me?" The werewolf's eyes narrowed further, and for a moment she took her gaze off of the vampire to shoot a look at Saidi. This was a golden opportunity. Three of the four agents were here - who knew where Mort could be at this point - and only one of the Four. They had every advantage they needed! What was Saidi thinking?! Did she not recognize him? Rei wore a subtle look of shock, which she eventually moved to Cole in hopes maybe he'd back her up on this. Surely he'd recognize the little vamp, too, wouldn't he? Did Saidi not?

Defiantly, Rei hissed air between clenched teeth and shook her head. "I don't know who you think you are to try and pardon me," she snarled under her breath. She then turned her attention back to the vampire and raised her voice enough to speak to him clearly. "Find me again sometime later and we'll settle this. I'm ready to go when you are." And, at the moment, she meant that wholeheartedly. She might not in the future, especially if he caught her off guard, but she was willing to do just about anything to establish the fact that she could defeat the pale little leech in a fight. And besides, if he'd been able to track her down the first time, he'd be able to do it again. She just hoped he would.

"Well then..." Esmeree forced a harsh, false smile onto her face, and turned away from the situation. "Let's hurry up and get going, Saidi. Whatever it must be that's so urgent, we better take care of immediately. God forbid it get away from us." Rei was far from indirect in her passive-aggression when it came to situations like these. Typically she was just aggressive and nothing else, but in forced cooperation, she'd resort to more domestic methods. But that didn't mean she wouldn't obviously imply every little thing, because Rei was never one to keep her mouth shut. She was incredibly reluctant to leave this situation. She'd been so close. This was not something she would just let go of within a reasonable amount of time. No, this would be a grudge laid until resolved with compensation. Sweeping down, she snatched her bag and swung it up onto her shoulder to be carried upon her back. "Well, come on, let's hustle. Guess we have important things to do. Why don't you lead the way, Saidi?"

Cole winced as the light hit his face, following behind Saidi as she led the way out onto the street. He shoved his hands in his pockets, wishing he were elsewhere. He nodded at her, finding the agents would be a good thing to do. But just as he was about to open his mouth to smirk something to the effect of then what, smart guy? She paused. Cole noticed what she was looking at. What the ****, Rei? He thought, as he bounded along behind Saidi, trying to keep up.

He caught up to where the two women were talking, eyeing a lanky guy around his height with distaste. Cole felt like he should recognize him, but frankly he couldn't care less. He was more worried about Rei's yellowed eyes, as she bristled close to the man's face. He listened as Saidi tried to convince her to come away, and shook his head as Rei reacted harshly. Cole shot a questioning glance at her, wondering what she was doing. But he knew better than to ask questions like that. Let Saidi be the smart one. Cole thought. I'm just here to follow orders.

Cole stepped forward quietly, placing a hand on Rei's shoulder. He gripped it slightly, probably harder than most people would, but not his hardest. He didn't want to break her in two. "Rei, just do what she says." He said quietly. He wasn't much for strategy, but she was smaller than him and he could remove her if need be, even with the little difficulty the pain in his sides caused. Or protect the three of them from whatever that creep was trying to cook up. Honestly, something in the stranger's eyes made him nervous. "Saidi knows what she's doing. She always does." He said, raising his eyebrows at Saidi, hoping that he was right.

harley curtis . the vampire

harley
the vampire . pansexual . location;; town . tag{s};; rei, saidi, cole
─────────────────────────────────

harley's muscles flexed and tensed as he watched the strange female nervously, beginning to feel a strange sense of insecurity. something about this girl didn't feel all that correct, and it wasn't just because she had shapeshifter blood. no, there was something else that made her off. he focused on her and how she acted; her bones creaked as she shifted on the spot, seemingly bracing herself to transform into a creature. some kind of beast, perhaps? this was made obvious by her enlarging teeth, yellowing and growing drastically in her human mouth. her jaws actually appeared particularly cramped, enough to make him feel a slight bit of sympathy. he instantly shrugged off that emotion, however, not wanting anything to distract him from his purpose. he was so hungry, he felt he might actually pass out soon if he didn't sink his fangs into a being of sorts. at this point, it didn't matter what it was. food was food, he just needed nutrients to get by with. if this stranger put up too much of a fight, he doubted he would care too much. it would be a bit of a loss, but he'd get over it while eating an animal of some sort.

harley's brain buzzed with multiple different thoughts, nearly steering him completely off course. he might've actually gotten himself severely injured if it wasn't for the newcomers. more strangers, hurriedly approaching him and the female being. he took a few hasty steps backwards, concealing some of his face in the shadows once more. if they were humans, they could possibly harm him or capture him. being the last of his kind was rough; he didn't want to let the vampire race die out so quickly. harley's mildly crimson eyes pierced the strangers' skin on their own, taking in their appearance to the best of his ability. another girl and a man, noticeably stronger than him. he paid too much attention to the man to notice the female's canines, almost equally as large as his. he was still clueless.

harley snarled viciously at rei, who was abandoning their skirmish under command of the newcomers. he didn't care too much, thinking more carefully he realized he might've gotten himself killed. shapeshifters were strong, and when he wasn't well-fed he was nothing in comparison to them. he needed to find some easier prey before he started picking fights with more able beings. so, he permitted her to flee. "watch your back, shifter. i'm in no way finished with you," he hissed, his fangs glistening dangerously for a few moments. he made brief eye contact with the other two beings before stepping away, fleeing himself. he swiftly made his way through the small town, lost in deep thought. those humans were extremely odd... what on earth were they doing in this small town? they didn't seem of this place; they didn't belong here any more than he did.

hunger gnawed at his stomach, forcing him in a new direction. harley was now headed towards a little place surrounded by trees; it was just next to the small town. he was after the scent of an animal. it didn't take him too long to find it, managing to catch the helpless creature. after he was no longer clumsily stumbling all over the place, disoriented by hunger, he could return to the town. for the mere purpose of exploration and childish curiosity, wanting to educate himself on why those odd humans were there.

Mothering. Helping. whatever they called it, that was she was here for. That was her job, her one purpose here. Damn right, Cole. Of course Saidi knows what she's doing. The idea of all the agents looking up to her - especially Cole - almost frightened the speedster. What if she ever was wrong, and told them something that could ultimately cause their demise? Saidi frowned at the thought, watching the man Rei had been confronting closely. Realisation never hit her. He left, and with him, the opportunity.

"Rei." And boy, did she sound pissed at the werewolf. "What the **** were you thinking?" The speedster started out with this, turning to the agent with the shapeshifter blood. Saidi's fangs were bared as she confronted Rei, angry as ever. "Just - Just think for a stupid second: What if I hadn't walked in when I did? You would have gotten yourself killed. All it takes is for one person to cry wolf, then the entire town is after you, loading their guns. Come on!" Saidi paused to press her knuckle to her own temple, her eyes - normally brown - dark red.

"My job is to keep you idiots alive," she said, giving a pointed look in Cole's direction before turning back to the werewolf agent. "You, my dear friend, are crossing many lines here." The word 'friend' held plenty of contempt. Did Saidi really need to remind Esmeree about her burning hatred for the woman? Need she tell her about how she wouldn't hesitate to kill her if she deemed it necessary to? Al-Hasheem decided against this, as threats were petty.

"Please, for the love of the gods above us, Rei, use your head rather than your pride for once?" Saidi hissed out, standing a little straighter - taller. Dominance: that's what this was a show of. Because it was time Rei realised that Saidi was in fact in charge, and that she had every right to boss all three of the agents every which way she pleased.

    ════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

"Watch your back, shifter." Esmeree's ears perked at the threat. Or was it a promise? Either way, she temporarily turned her attention back to the vampire and chuckled at his words, a smirk curling his lips upwards by the very corners. He bolted off before she could reply, but she muttered the words, anyway. "I'll be waiting..." Now, naturally, her gut told her to chase after the fleeing target. Her mind was still in hunt mode, and the so called 'prey' was making a run for it. Her muscles tensed underneath her skin, heart skipping like a rock on water until he was long out of sight. Only then did she accept that he was gone, even if she wasn't necessarily happy about that turnout.

But what followed after was not any more fun. Rei felt a weight drop onto one of her shoulders, one that felt distinctively like a hand. Based on its size and grip, she knew it was Cole right off the bat. Rei didn't mind the pressure he applied on her shoulder, even if he did contain the potential to crush the bone. She tried to take it as a compliment, really, as he had seemingly come to the conclusion that her body could handle it without shattering to pieces. So while she didn't necessarily appreciate being 'held back', if one were to perceive it as such, she was trying to interpret it in the most positive way possible for the sake of not getting angry about one more thing. She exhaled slowly, dragging her eyes off of the path the vampire had taken, and instead just closed them to give herself a break. Didn't quite work, primarily because of what words came from his mouth. Seconds later, her eyes snapped back open, jaw setting as she straightened her spine. "Just do what she says?" Esmeree repeated, an unintentional snarl in her tone as she sent a sideways glare in his direction. She wasn't mad at Cole. She knew she wasn't mad at Cole, for he'd done nothing wrong. And she hoped he understood she wasn't mad at him, but rather was just a overheated loaded gun - one that was jammed and in need of a firing. "Oh, right, because Saidi always makes the best judgment. It's not as if the damn bloodsucker didn't just bolt away because she told me to back off. Good, good, let's ditch the mission because God forbid I make a scene."

Before Rei even had time to recover, Saidi was blowing up in her face. First it started with her name, to which Rei addressed with a solid glare. But then the speedster followed up with quite the invective spillage of words. She didn't necessarily take kindly to them, especially since the other woman was bearing her fangs at her. Rei's reaction was first physical, her own body showing its aggression with eyes turning the color of liquid gold that matched the hue of the wolf's. But she could never leave it at that, no. Instead, she took her step forwards, almost making it into a lunge with the speed she had, ultimately forgetting about Cole completely to now focus on the new issue at hand. "And just what were you thinking?!" Rei fired back, feeling almost eager to get into an argument with the speedy woman. "I was doing what I was told to do; take out the targets. There was no fine print that made it a requirement for us to stay alive." Rei threw an arm out in the direction that the vampire had gone. "Did you not notice who that was?! Ever bother to read their files? Look at their photographs? That was the leech. The one who you got your pretty little speediness from, if you didn't notice the fangs protruding from his lips in the first place. I could've killed him! That opportunity was perfect! That would've been one down, one less threat. And if the people around took up arms against me, so be it, but at least his now-future victims would've been able to live past their upcoming deaths." She shook her head and briefly wet her lips with the tip of her tongue. She then let out a harsh scoff and drilled her gaze into Saidi's. "And besides, I'm sure you wouldn't be that upset."

Rei's lips fell into a scowl. "We have no duty to stay alive. Maybe I'm not up to date on you guys enough to say this, but I was made into something other than human for the mere sake of taking out these other Four. What are they going to to with us when we return home? Won't we be the freaks, then? The dangers? God forbid they let someone like me back out; I might bite." Truth be told, Rei was terrified to return back. She didn't want to face what could come next. She wasn't some trainable dog, she'd been born with a stubborn set of horns and the little 'upgrade' had only made it worse. Now she was hot-headed and lethal when angry. Why would they bother going through the trouble to settle her temper when she would always still have a canine beast at her beck and call that could kill a man if he wasn't ready? They wouldn't. She wasn't valuable enough. They hadn't given her the blood because she possessed the strength to do it, they'd given it to her because she was no use otherwise. The only thing Rei saw in her future was a shiny little syringe with a silver-laced liquid inside. It wasn't exactly tempting to return to.

Oh, so she was crossing lines now, huh? "Am I? All I was doing was following the instruction." Maybe not her instruction, but the overall goal in general. Sure, she'd neglected to get together with the others first and formulate a plan of attack, but it's not like she'd done it intentionally. The bloodsucker had waltzed right up to her, not the other way around. What's a wolf to do when instinct takes over? She wanted to say she didn't expect Saidi to understand, but, really, she did. The two didn't just hate each other because their personalities conflicted. It was in their blood. Surely she could've related at least a little.

Rei gave a growl at the insult. "Pride wasn't even half of it." Yes, it had played a part. She didn't want to back down from a fight, but that had only been one of multiple contributors. But what her pride wasn't a fan of was this position Saidi was taking on. Trying to stand above her? What, did she expect Rei to bow? That wasn't happening. She narrowed her eyes and pressed her lips together into a firm line, eyes blazing with their yellow coloration. Rei didn't try to copy the other woman's motions, for she had no need to. She didn't want to be the 'dominant' one in this case, unlike usual. She had no interest in being associated with Saidi whatsoever. She didn't want to be dominant over the woman, she wanted to be separate. And so she walked past, purposely colliding her shoulder with the other woman's as she went. By now, Rei was 90% full of just pent up anger that she had no safe and healthy way to express. She felt like she was about to boil over, hence why she took her own direction. If the others followed, fine, but if they didn't, she wasn't coming back until that vampire was dead and gone. She had no issues trying to do this alone, even if it was foolish. And besides, Mortimer was supposed to be showing up sometime, right?

Saidi looked to the strongman behind her. Cole was the only reason why she hadn't snapped and lashed out against Rei yet. Out of fear, mostly, but also because he was the element of reason. Saidi's next words was just a loud exhale through her nose. "Don't insult me, Esmeree." Her tone was even as the speedster tried to regain her peace. Her head tilted slightly when Rei said bloodsucker, then her eyes narrowed. Liar. Surely Rei was lying. Saidi had studied the vampire's form front and back, in between every pale grey line. Dare she insult her? Saidi growled low in her throat, crossing her arms over her chest in defiance.

Saidi stared at Rei for a long time, red eyes intent in gold before she broke the eye contact, shaking her head slowly. "That was not Harley. I think I would recognise my own damn blood donor, Rei." She pointed out, shrugging as if she didn't really have a solid answer. She didn't, but it wasn't like she'd ever admit to that. Not in front of Cole, who looked up to her as a leader. As he should - as they all should. That thought caused her chest to swell just a bit, her shoulders back and chin up.

For a moment, guilt coursed through her. She hadn't meant to be quite so rude to Rei: She was a good girl. They probably would have been friends if they hadn't been given a monster's blood. Saidi considered stooping just low enough to apologise and then whip back into argument, but with Rei's next retort, that notion and thought went flying out the window.

"Esmeree, for all hell's sake, would you listen to yourself?" Yet, she still wondered the same thing. What would happen after the four donors are dead - the four monsters? What would become of them? "I'm not sure about the rest of you, but this isn't easy. But I feel damn right honoured, and I have a duty to perform, so I'm going to do it. I refuse to let personal matters interfere." She gave a tight smile, lowering her head and taking a slight step back. Her right hand twitched slightly and she frowned, taking a moment to gaze around.

"Just - Drop it, Rei. Let's go find Mortimer, then we can go find your pretty little prey and hunt them down, all right?" Her words were more of a sigh than they were an affirmation. Al-Hasheem gave a brief smile to Rei before turning to Cole.

"How are your ribs holding up, Strongman?" She asked him with genuine concern. Hopefully well, because they needed to find Mort then get moving.

She turned her eyes away from Cole, eyes sorting through the darkness enough to see another figure a few metres away, by the bar Cole and Saidi had just left. They had just walked right past him, apparently. This idea made Saidi chuckle.

Walking past Cole, she moved quickly - yet not full speed, as to not scare the elemental - towards Mort, stopping in front of him and smiling a bit. "Fancy seeing you here." She pointed back to where Rei and Cole where standing before taking him over to the rest of the agents.

"All right, so! Game plan, guys. Sit down, shut up, and listen to me. Ace?" She grinned, full confidence back.
