That sharp command cut through the air and made her jump, even though it was directed at Knife Man. She could understand his fascination... there wasn't much in the way of fine art back in Brookmount, not that she'd ever developed a particular taste for it. Either way - the woman was intimidating. It was her tone of voice, for sure, but also something Meche couldn't quite put her finger on, something about her which commanded absolute attention. Spotting yet another newcomer out the corner of her eye, she looked him up and down... but then the woman began speaking, and Meche stood quietly and awaited the promised explanation.

"You are no longer in whatever version of reality you previously were."

Despite herself, she recoiled at the words, a noise of opposition torn from her throat. For a moment, she glared rebelliously at the Innkeeper, hands wound into fists as she considered which counter-argument to pick out of the many that came to mind, such as 'that isn't possible' or 'there's only one reality'. But the longer she hesitated, the more her thoughts turned, the more the different reactions from everyone fit together. Her glare faded before it could give way to harsh words. It felt like her own mind was trying to shield her from the truth as long as possible, but even this defence dissolved as she met the woman's gaze.

It was true.

Standing in shocked silence, she listened to the question asked by one of the girls from before, the one from the floor. The answer was disappointing. But the words which followed drew her attention to a dog lurking behind them, a dog which the Innkeeper spoke to like a human. Was it the fading mind of an old woman (unlikely) or was it just one example of a 'reality' where seemingly impossible things were... possible? She was still on autopilot as she stepped forward and accepted the rule sheet - her eyes scanned the page without really seeing anything at all (but still somehow knowing every single rule when she was done), and she stared mesmerized at the points which faded out of sight as if by magic.

Knife man asked his own question next, and it was a pleasant one. Finally, something she recognised, something she had no doubt existed (at least where she came from), something she could latch onto with some degree of confidence. "Yes. Yes, I second this. Though I would also prefer something much stronger, if that is at all possible." Then, she paused uncertainly - turned her head to look at everyone else in the room in turn. "Also... My name is Mercedes. Meche. If we are all stuck here together then I believe it would be best to have a... fresh start."

Verath Caraz

Verath's dreams were troubled, full of blood. His eyes suddenly flew open, bringing him back to the waking world. However, the first things he noticed were of no comfort to him. The soothing motion of the Demonic was gone, replaced by the unsettling stillness of land. In addition, he was most definitely not in any place he recognized. He slowly rose from the soft, white bed, every muscle tense. Surveying the small room, he narrowed his eyes, puzzled. More luxurious than he would expect from a kidnapper. What puzzled him most of all was how anyone managed to get him off the Demonic in the first place. Sure, the ship was crippled, but they were still far out from the harbor, and no ships had been in sight when he went to sleep. He would figure out the how later. Currently he was focused on figuring out where on earth he was. One hand on a whip, he carefully pushed the door open, ready for anything.

Anything but an empty hallway. Something about this unnerved him. He would have rather opened the door to find a fellow assassin ready for a fight. At least then he would know what to do. He heard voices on the level below him, so he quietly crept towards the stairs, cursing the creaky floorboards. What he saw below him resembled a meeting. His brow furrowed in confusion. The people gathered below him were so different, and only one even looked like he could fight. He scanned the foyer, looking for an exit... Wait, did that man have a TAIL?! His eyes widened in surprise. What kind of new sorcery was this? He had only just been alerted to the existence of magic, he really didn't need some new kind in his life to mess things up.

As he slipped down the stairs, he caught the end of what sounded like an orientation. The words were coming from an older lady at a desk. He just hoped she wouldn't notice him before he could get out. Baelevile needed him.

»HAYLEE SHAY«
bisexual | 18 | werewolf/telekentic

mood: Confused
tagged: Everyone
where: The Inn
Haylee listened to the answer to her question, watching the older woman intently. Demi-dragons? What the heck is going on around here? That, coming from the thoughts of werewolf whom had telekentic abilities. Haylee then spotted a large dog at the edge of the room. She then heard the lady speaking to someone. A couple moments later, Haylee realized it was, in fact, the dog. She was a guest of the Inn? Then she noticed a man with fox ears and a tail. Things just kept getting stranger and stranger. Haylee observed as the Inn Keeper fumbled around with some papers before she spread them out on the counter in front of her. Taking a few steps toward the Inn Keeper, Haylee grabbed a paper, attempting to read it as she was listening to the elderly lady speak. Just as the lady'd say, some rules started to blur for Haylee as only certain rules applied to her.

Glancing over at the man with the knives, she heard him ask if there was coffee. Valid question. She thought. Then, another question popped into her brain as she listened to the Inn Keeper speak. "And who is the Rulekeeper?" She asked, glancing over at the lady. She probably wouldn't need to know but it was nice just to have all the information if she was going to be here for a while. Her eyes then flicked over to Mercedes, or Meche, as she introduced herself to the group that had collected here, around the Inn Keeper. "Nice to meet you, Mercedes." Haylee said, attempting to give the girl a fresh start with a friendly smile. She didn't even noticed the man making his way down the stairs.

The Innkeeper pursed her lips. "Yes, there's coffee, but not much. We have to grow it ourselves. It's not a daily commodity. And anything stronger is strictly for celebrations." She stepped out from behind the counter and made her way to the doors. "Everyone should keep those rule sheets of theirs. They usually change a bit." She looked back at the group still clustered at the desk. "Come on, now. I don't have all day. You bunch are going to meet the Rulekeeper. It's no use for me to tell you about them."

He honestly needed caffeine in his system if he was going to make sense of the Innkeeper's words. Talk of alternate realities, disappearances, and dragons at this hour did not make it to his consciousness. It was all just noise. Introductions, on the other hand. They were something he could do.

"Fresh start?" he repeated, "I could use one of those. I'm Benja." Rolling the sheet into one hand he stuck the other out to Meche, a crooked smile warming his eyes. "Sorry about earlier, with the knives. Last time I'd met a human, she tried to kill me. It was habit." A bit of his Dutch accent coloured the words, made them softer.

A fresh start. He hadn't had one of those in a while, not for a good few years. For a moment he though of his family, wondered if they were still alive, still fighting off the living dead in their fortress of a home. Or perhaps they had died, like so many had, in the first few months of the breakout. Either way, they were out of his reach now. He'd always needed an excuse to let them go, and this was as good of one as any.

Davis Fen || Part-fox
Nervous || Tagged;; everyone
Slightly relaxing at the sound of coffee before frowning at the sound of not having too much. He'd be given a headache pulling away from it too suddenly, an experience of lying in bed in dull pain one he didn't want to go through again with him being a wimp for pain. Nevertheless, there were more important things like getting back to his flat and going to work. His cat needed feeding too if he didn't any curtains shredded to pieces, and he didn't want to be fired for missing too many days. Davis tugged nervously at his tie again before glancing at the sheet with curiosity, ignoring it a second later to follow the woman.

Despite his fear keeping him alert, he felt somewhat hazy at the same time. No longer in his previous reality? It had him feeling unattached to whatever place he had been landed in for the moment, feeling as if he was floating around instead of walking on solid ground. He never had been good keeping himself out of his mind anyway, sorrounded by chemicals and other crap in his room at home.

It was a relief to feel his tail out, though. He wasn't able to do that so often in London because of the large population and nosy people glancing through his window as they walk by. It wasn't possible to pass it off with twitching ears at the top of his head and slit pupils when he thought about it either. Maybe if he lived in the country it would have been easier, but chickens didn't like him as expected. He chuckled at the thought and continued on, silently walking behind. A spike of unease formed in his chest at the sound of the title of Rulekeeper; he wasn't sure if the Rulekeeper was kind or not, but it sounded formal and strict. If he'd be staying at the place for a while, he didn't want a replica of his boss.

Verath Caraz

Although he wasn't really listening, mention of the Rulekeeper caught Verath's attention. He glanced towards the group, wondering if they knew what was going on. Asking them was too much of a risk. If they turned out to be unfriendly, he couldn't fight off that many by himself. He continued his slow and silent route to the door. As the group started moving in the same direction, he froze in the shadows, cursing under his breath. He didn't have time to get away without being spotted. His eyes glinted in the dark as he watched the group get closer. Both hands rested on his whips, unclipping them from his belt. He wouldn't go down without a fight.

It would appear she'd have to make the best out of a (really) bad situation, considering the coffee and booze situation, as well as the whole thing about being in some interdimensional cottage with a bunch of strangers from different realities.

Pursing her lips as she tried to not scowl or argue with the Innkeeper (the woman still very much scared her), she turned back towards Benja instead. It was a much more pleasant name than 'Knife Man', at least. "Eh, it is perfectly alright, after all, we all got a bit twitchy up there." She returned his smile as they shook hands. "When things have settled a bit, you will have to tell me about your reality, you know - it sounds very interesting."

When it was clear that they'd be meeting the Rulekeeper (as if they couldn't make the name less foreboding) sooner than later, Meche trailed along with the others towards the exit. Hesitantly. As quickly as she seemed to be adjusting to the unbelievable situation unraveling around them, she didn't particularly like the idea of exploring more of it so soon.

Which is when she heard a noise. A click, a shuffle in the shadows. With a step towards it and a raised eyebrow, she clearly announced, "You can come out, you know. Here we are, with fresh starts and introducing ourselves, all that... seems a bit rude to hide in dark corners." A wry smile flicked at the corners of her lips - her hands rested on her hips as she waited for the stranger to reply.

Verath Caraz

Verath's eyes snapped to this girl, the one who stepped out to confront him. Definitely a rebel, slight, but wiry; her clothing was strange, but seemed to fit. As she confronted him, she spoke almost as a mother to a disobedient child. Patronizing. There was very little that Verath hated more than that. His eyes narrowed in annoyance. Well, she seemed to be the only one who had noticed him. If need be, he was definitely capable of subduing her. He would play her game.

Growling softly to himself, he stepped out of the shadows, standing tall in the light. He looked down at this girl with smoldering fire in his eyes. "My name is Verath Caraz, first mate of the Demonic," he said with a slight Russian accent, "And I would like to know why I am here." His whips rested in his hands. They were retracted for now, but he could have them out in a instant.

"Run, Finn, run!" she screamed, her legs carrying her across the wooden forest as fast as she could, dragging beside her by the hand Finn. She squeezed once, feeling fear taking over her mental state, slowly feeling the pain in her leg from the bite from earlier. She could no longer shift with the injury on her calf, and Finn was far too weak to do anything as well. Their situation was desperate, Tatum's heart wreaking havoc on her ears. It almost felt as if their pursuers would be able to hear the pounding of her heart as clear as she can. Then, without any warning, she collapsed. Her body shut down, and she could do nothing but fade into unconsciousness, leaving Finn much further behind than she would ever understand.

Eyes open, lips parted, slow intakes of breath. Sweat lines her skin, the scene almost feeling like a nightmare. However, something tells her it wasn't any ordinary nightmare. It felt too real, felt too painful. And yet, here she is, lying in a bed of too much comfort-the kind that her pack would never afford. Her eyes take a moment to adjust to the lighting, feeling a headache rise from out of nowhere from the sudden brightness. It had been nighttime hadn't it? It made no sense, none at all. And yet, this world felt just as real as the one she was in when she had been running for her life. What was going on? With a shake of her head, Tatum gets up, figuring that asking around for questions would be a much wiser decision than simply figuring everything out on her own. The room is simple, and yet comfortable. It confuses her greatly, but Tae doesn't dwell on what she doesn't understand, rather on what she knows. My name is Tatum Ace Pierce. I'm a wolf shapeshifter. I'm nineteen years old, female. All those things are real, in both this world and the one she had just been dreaming. Or rather, perhaps in the real world she had been in and the dream she was having now. That's confusing...

With a sigh, Tatum swings her legs over the bed's side, giving the room a once over. There are no personal possessions, belonging to anyone else but her own. A single bag lays by the bedside, the one Finn had been wearing in the other world/nightmare. A tug at her heart forces her shut that memory out. Was he okay? Did he end up here too? Or was he dead? That thought brought a chill to her spine, and this time she completely blacked out any thought related to that chasing scene in her mind. At least until she got answers. Grabbing the bag and throwing it over one of her shoulders, she heads straight for the door, not bothering to pay attention to the details in this random bedroom. As her eyes glaze across the hallway, she instantly thinks of a hotel or inn, possibly even a hotel. Whatever it is, it's obviously not somewhere she had ever been before. Was she kidnapped?

Careful steps down the hallway lead to stairs, and it's here that she realizes that she's weaponless. Well, besides her own shifting power, but that in itself remains a mystery. She couldn't shift before, her wound being far too deep. And yet, here she stands, no wounds on her leg, and no sign of weakness in her joints. Is it possible she can shift? Something in Tatum's mind clicks as she realizes that she could be in a human inn, and so for now she avoids the chances of being seen by someone. Instead of shifting, she'll rely on her own kick-butt instincts for now. Slowly pacing her steps to avoid causing any disturbance, she tip toes her way down the steps to find if anyone else could offer her answers.

"Hey, back it up, there!" With raised hands he stepped in between the two, wondering when he'd turned into the negotiator of the group. "We can all be polite strangers right now, yes? No need to start anything?" Slowly, as though faced with a pair of wild animals, he lowered his hands.

"Now, Verath—I can call you that, right?—you're not going to get any answers like that. Trust me, I tried." Benja grinned, and faced the man head on. "So, why don't you take your little toys there and put them away, so we can continue finding answers with this nice lady here," he gestured to the Innkeeper. "Unless, of course, if you want to see how quickly I can pin each of your hands to the wall you are standing so conveniently close to." His smile grew sharp, judgmental. After a moment he moved away and, turning his head to Meche replied, "Meche, I would love to share my story, but only if you do the same. It's only fair." As he made his way back into the group he glanced over to the second shadow at the foot of the stairs.

He'd seen the man when he'd first entered the room, of course. It was an ability trained into him from a young age; the ability to sense change in a given space. That gift was probably what had saved him innumerable times in the past year, and it was proving to be just as useful today. So he wasn't going to go against his instincts again, assume each shadow was a harmless, confused human. This time, he raised his hand in a wave, greeting the new visitor. He wasn't going to give them a chance to sneak up and create another confrontation.
