vinnie cambridge was not a morning person, nor would be ever be. a night owl at heart, vinnie had stayed up until four contemplating why the bandits had failed at their debut mission a few nights ago. the plan had seemed so meticulous and perfect; vinnie was practically clueless at what exact point the whole thing had been messed up at. it was probably the stupid veela's fault. she was always getting so annoyed with vinnie no matter what he did. not to mention, she was clumsy and moody. during their first meetings, vinnie had suggested she should be kicked out or at least not go along on their mission, but he had been outvoted [actually, out-yelled].
the sunlight that shone through the large windows of the gryffindor boys' dorm room, making its way directly into vinny's sleeping eyes. with a rumbling, throaty groan, vinny pulled the sheets over his face and proceeded to doze off again. about twenty minutes later, some chatter from the common room downstairs floated up into the dorm. vinnie woke up again, moaning again in a very audible fashion. he rolled out of bed in the very literal sense of the term, his feet first and his body following. with a pace equal only to that of a sloth, he shuffled to his chest, grabbed his daytime robes and uniform, and made his way into the closest bathroom to get ready. it took another twenty minutes before the boy reappeared from the bathroom: showered, dressed and hair-gelled.
as the smooth-looking boy sauntered down the stairs and into the common room, he let his gaze roam around the room in search of his friends. he didn't spot any of his friends; the closest to an acquaintance was his ex, annie lambdon, who was too busy fawning over herself to even spare vinnie a polite wave of the hand. rolling his eyes, vinnie continued on his way out of the common room, through the small hallway and out of the fat lady portrait. as he floated down the stairs in his unfailingly debonair manner, vinnie flashed a cheeky grin at the fat lady, making the painting laugh a loud, bellowing laugh behind him. once vinnie got to the last flight of stairs, he swung over the railing and slid down the banister before jumping off the edge. he ignored the annoyed yell from his charms teacher, professor tibalt, who was threatening to give him detention if vinnie got caught doing it again. "sorry tibbs, I won't get caught next time," he shouted over his shoulder. he couldn't help but laugh as he heard the professor give an exasperated sigh at Vinnie's characteristic nonchalance.
vinnie had a reputation to uphold around hogwarts; he was the cliché bad-boy who made the whole"rebel without a cause" persona work tremendously well. he was a troublemaker, but much liked by most of his professors [emphasis on most-- his transfiguration professor was never much impressed with the charming boy]. his pranks were harmless, for the most part. embarrassing for the victim and messy for the janitor, but harmless. ever since he had magically pantsed andy clemington his second year, vinnie was the beloved practical joker of hogwarts current generation.
with a cocky laugh, vinnie pushed past some short, infantile first years and into the great hall. he immediately noticed some gryffindors sitting at their long table, chatting and eating breakfast like every morning. he headed over to where he spotted some friends, percy and cassie, and took a seat across the two of them. "what's up, guys," he greeted, winking at the two of them as he grabbed his usual-- a blueberry muffin and a mug of coffee-- from the placed breakfast foods and began to eat. he let his gaze float around the room, resting on some individual faces before moving onto the next. vinnie didn't see too many of his friends around, but he didn't really mind. he just had to get through today, and then tonight would be fun again. there was another bandits get-together in the room of requirement; the meetings were what truly got vinnie through most of his endlessly boring classes and tiresome quidditch practices. as he waited for his friends to return the greeting, he tried to see if he would spot the latest target of his most recent affections-- sawyer reeves, the sixth year ravenclaw. she was marvelously beauteous in a devilishly sultry way. he didn't have a crush on her or anything, but he found himself quite fond of their bantering, flirty exchanges during defense of the dark arts class. deciding he couldn't find her, vinnie returned his gaze on percy and cassie.
