xxxxxxxx ♛ x'' ♛ xx KISMET LARAN ; x blaze of light in every word x'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxfourteen ; townie ; gargoyle touch [two bar] ; tagged: evanxxxxxxxdespite her best efforts to stay out of the conflict between the townies and the students, kismet had still, somehow, ended up smack-dab in the middle. she'd been minding her own business in one of the quieter areas of town, and then bam! half a car had landed right in front of her, followed by a rush of water. it was good fortune that she hadn't turned anyone to stone in that encounter. but with all this fighting going on, it was only a matter of time before kismet would need to defend herself. and she was unlucky enough that she'd probably end up medusa-ing someone important with tons of loyal followers. then she'd be hunted down for her unintentional crime and probably lynched, or something. kismet's opinion of her compatriots' behavior is not high even when they're under control. now? they're definitely running wild. and she'll be paying the price.
xxxxxxxbefore now, she hadn't quite appreciated the beauty of the american legal system.
xxxxxxxkismet's trying to head away from the other townies and their fruitless rebuilding efforts. the outskirts of town were the ones hit first, and there's a good meter of stagnant water flooding the area, so of course that's where kismet's headed. no one's going to be there. she shifts the backpack containing only a bottle of water into a more comfortable position as she wades waist-deep through the mess. there's spilled oil floating on top of the water, and some kind of rotten odor drifts through the air. ugh. but there's nothing to be done about it, and she's already given up on trying to keep herself dry. she can only hope that in whatever house she eventually enters there will be a change of clothes, or it's going to be an uncomfortable night.
xxxxxxxthis is assuming, of course, that she finds a hospitable place to stay, or at least one that's not destroyed. that crazed coates kid sure did a number on the 'burbs: there's chunks of random things - bikes, cars, lawn gnomes - in the roofs of the houses. and how did a stop sign end up there? she doesn't even want to know. finally, her eyes find a relatively untouched house, suffering no damage [well, besides the water flooding in through the front door, but that was a given]. maybe this house is lucky, or something.
xxxxxxxkismet doesn't proceed with much caution. she knows perfectly well that it's something she should do, as there might be some crazed fire-shooting animal rampaging around in there, but it's wet, disgusting, and she really needs to pee. as she comes level with the front door she whacks the doorframe a few times in a parody of a knock. "anybody home?" although she's posed a question, kismet doesn't expect an answer, and so she heads right in. on her right are some stairs leading up. they look relatively dry. hopefully they won't give way beneath her. she can't see the first step beneath the water and in the relative darkness of the house, but she feels around with her foot a bit until she's pretty sure she can climb without -
xxxxxxx"ahh!" with a loud splash and a lot of thrashing she recovers from her fall, which comes courtesy of her left foot catching the lip of the second stair. this has not been one of her better days.
[[ hope this is okay.

As carefully as possible, Evan made her way around the water run streets. She had no intention of getting wet, and so every time she came across a place where she would have to cross water to continue, she would focus her energy and quickly turn the running water into ice and make her way across. Every so often, the ice would break and continue floating with the water, and while she knew eventually someone would question it, she didn't exactly care at the time.
Before long, she found a rather large house that looked quite promising. She noted how the water was in it as well, but due to her combat boots, she managed to get to the stairs without water ever touching her skin. At this point, she couldn't but notice that the little sack she was carrying seemed to get heavier as she moved on, and she took it as a sign that she needed to rest. All that was in it was food, mostly canned, but she did have some candies due to her ever-hungry sweet tooth.
She sighed deeply as she made her way up the stairs and into a bedroom that was at the end of a hallway, to the right. The room was a light blue, and action figures and video games were littered across the floor. I wonder where the owners went... The thought came across to her, and it made her stop. From what she had noticed, only adults had disappeared, but the owner of this room had to be a kid, and yet they were no where to be seen. Going back to previous events, she became worried. It was very possible they could have gotten dragged into something, or just have been a no-name.
Evan shook her head. You can't keep thinking of these things, gotta keep your eyes ahead of you. She had managed to escape being hurt in anyway, but not in a way she was proud of. Students and Townies were always at each other, but never like they had been recently. Things had gotten bad, and it seemed full on war has broken out. At the first sign of trouble, Evan would admit, she ran and hid, leaving everyone else to fend for themselves. In her mind, it was keep-yourself-safe, but she couldn't help but feel guilty for skipping out on everyone else.
She sighed and sat on the bed, smoothing out her white Hollywood Undead band "off the shoulder" shirt, even though it didn't really matter how she looked. She had picked an unfortunate outfit, given everything that had been going on. An off the shoulder shirt and some, as people called it, booty shorts, weren't much for protection. Her combat boots were great for this sort of thing, and she managed to find a pair that went well with her outfit, but part of her knew it didn't matter anymore.
Thinking about it got her lost her own thoughts, that is, until a noise jerked her out of them. For a moment, she thought she heard of voice, but for a couple seconds after, nothing else followed. Then, suddenly, she heard a loud splash, followed by a yell of panic, and she quickly got up. Looking around, she tried to see if there was anything in the general area she could use to defend herself. She quickly ran to the closet in the room, and managed to find a small wooden bat. Evan snorted, as when she held it up, it looked almost cartoonish with how small it was compared to her. God, this must have been meant for a five year old or something. However, at that moment, it was her only choice. Quickly, she decided to ice it over, and formed icicles on the end so it looked somewhat like a medieval mace made of ice. It wouldn't go for much, but it would at least allow her to hurt them and run if it came to that.
Walking out the room, she made her way to the top of the stairs, feeling silly wielding the bat. At the bottom of the stairs, she saw another girl, who may have been younger than her (she couldn't be sure), and she froze. "Uh... Hello there...?"

xxxxxxxx ♛ x'' ♛ xx KISMET LARAN ; x blaze of light in every word x'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxfourteen ; townie ; gargoyle touch [two bar] ; tagged: evanxxxxxxxgross. gross gross gross gross. more than anything, kismet wants to shower, or at least bathe. now, even her hair is wet, and she hates having that wet, because it always dries knotted. she does her best to wring some of the water out of her shirt. distracted by her wet garments, she doesn't hear anyone approaching until they speak. a girl with some kind of spiked club stands at the top of the stairs, looking both nervous and willing to brain kismet should she come too close. kismet likes her brain the way it is, thanks.
xxxxxxxher eyes rake the other girl, sizing her up as a threat, something she's learned to do since the fayz came into existence. kismet doesn't think much of her impractical shirt [she's never been one to follow music] and the ridiculously short shorts aren't much better. the combat boots the girl wears seem to be more suited to the environment than the remainder of her ensemble. in the past, kismet wasn't one to judge by first impressions. but now? now she knows that isolating threats could be the only thing that keeps her alive. it's sad, almost: it took centuries upon centuries of human expansion for certain things to be accepted socially, and now, within the space of a month, they're nothing more than a moot point in the minds of the survivors. the fayz has stripped it all away, leaving only their survival instincts.
xxxxxxxshe's much more aware of the plastic dentist's gloves that cover her hands.
xxxxxxxfor a moment, neither one of them speaks. since kismet is kind of the intruder, it seems to be her cue to express her situation, and she takes a moment to gather herself slightly before continuing. "hello. i'm kismet. i'm not going to hurt you - or steal from you, or murder you in your sleep, or anything." the fact that she has to practically list off all the negative things she could do to this girl saddens her, but it's better safe than sorry. hopefully this bat-wielding maniac senses the truth in her words. kismet spreads her hands out in front of her, demonstrating their emptiness and her lack of weaponry. this, of course, is nothing more than a gesture. if kismet needed a weapon to subdue this other teen then all she'd have to do would be remove her gloves, and her curse creepy power thing would end up doing the rest.

xxxxxYou would have thought that anyone who was brought up in a military family would be used to the affects of war. Perhaps, even war itself. But Cassie Preston wasn’t one of those people. Looking around, the world now looked… strangely familiar. Maybe even normal. That thought sent a shudder through her. Was she adapting to this new habitat? Was she beginning to think against her nature, where everything was either made up of comedy or science, and starting to learn from this kill-or-be-killed playground where surprises lurked around every corner?
xxxxxCassie watched with blank eyes as water, probably deeper than two inches, washed over her boots. It wasn’t clear water, either. It was a brown murkiness that washed away things in the yards of children nearby – it was a flooding that had already destroyed half of town, leaving those evacuated children homeless and the other half of town partially destroyed. Her blue eyes caught the sight of a teddy bear, smeared with what vaguely looked like blood. One of its button eyes were missing…
After Drew Henderson’s henchman, Mars McCotty, brutally sent out mentally-unstable children from Coates Academy to clash with frightened, untaught children, it had left twenty three dead, two cars blown up into obliteration, and the bridge now secured by Coates children. The look in his dark, shiny eyes—which she could only define as having a silvery tint—had terrified her. They spoke of the picture and video she had shown to the town, proving that Drew Henderson wanted to micromanage the lives of children and force them into labor. They spoke of revenge for that. They spoke of Black Umbrella, the military operation that she was supposed to keep secret.
xxxxxCassie let out an uneasy breath, something that she had been letting slip more frequently. After a moment of slouching through the water, she looked over at Adam, her best friend’s companion. “Who’s gonna clean it up?” She cringed, slightly. It sounded so offending, talking about all of the dead bodies as “it.” Adam was known to be the grave digger. She stopped and looked around at children, frantically fleeing with blankets—others, with clinging to machine guns and looking particularly weary, rushing to a school bus that was going to stand against the Coates kids on the bridge that led from town. She looked down at her hands. They were dried, caked with dirt. And blood. A child’s blood—a little boy she had seen, choking on his own blood as he slowly died. Then she had been forced to shove his body away and continue shooting. But now that little face was engraved in her mind. She doubted it would ever leave.
xxxxxThe normally hyped up, unclear, and dry girl—once a YouTuber and occasionally acting like one in times where her Jessi stressed out about everything—was now looking serious and uncertain. Then, she looked up. Her eyes met with this strange, dark boy whom she could only describe as her “future brother-in-law.” That was, if Jessi was legally her sister. “I haven’t seen Jessi in three days. Since that first night on the bridge.” It was true that the girl had left in such a hurry, going to “track someone down.” Cassie shrugged and caught a glimpse of Jared bounding out from who-knew-where, followed by her dog, Kotka. Who had begun to speak. She waved him over. “I think she might be in some trouble. And as we have all noted… I haven’t been the greatest of friends lately. But I care for her. Okay? So I’m going to go look for her.” She nodded, as if stating this was how things were. She walked until getting into her van—Jared’s van, actually. Then she looked over her shoulder at the two boys. “Coming or not? She’s pretty important to our future. And maybe even to this new world.”

xxxxxApparently lying back on a casual Tuesday afternoon was a forbidden act in Coates. Except for Mars McCotty, of course. Since Drew had fled with his little girlfriend, Marjorie, and there had been nobody to “guard the fort,” the Scottish young man had been left with the orders of attacking town and awaiting news that the Townies finally yielded. That was, until Drew came back and pretended to be alpha male again. But Mars could see it, now: Drew, falling weak. Drew, succumbing to the fear that this plans wouldn’t work. Finally, what Mars had been waiting for was beginning to happen. He was going to be who everyone ran to for help when things collapsed. Except for, he wouldn’t be here working for Drew. He’d be on his own.
xxxxxThe news from town, any answer that Drew hoped for, hadn’t come yet. So why not sit back? Townie leader Adam Darko with his death-hands would have to think about it, chew on this kind tip that if Town didn’t surrender, it would be obliterated. And it wasn’t like the Townies could helplessly flee to safety. Ha! They were surrounded. Too bad Adam Darko still wanted to fight. He would have made a good ally for Mars if he wasn’t so easily affected by things that weren’t affecting him. If Mars was in the position of freely walking out from Drew at that point, he would’ve asked Adam Darko to become one of his allies. But it was also clear, if you knew Mars McCotty, that being an “ally” didn’t mean that Mars looked out anybody but himself.
Mars threw his legs over the arm of the couch, feeling more bored in that moment when he had beating up Torfo back in St. Claire’s. Man, what he’d do for his version of a relaxed weekend: kill Drew, slap Marjorie, walk off from the few hundred people needing a leader, and find that estuary he wanted so badly.
xxxxxWhen a little boy named Teddy entered the room, he calmly flipped through another page, ignoring the quivering child. After a minute of this, he sighed and peered over the magazine. Everyone here was a freak—just lurking around the corner, gazing on him with fright. But maybe with some respect, as well. Eh. Well, he couldn’t blame them: Mars knew how to deal with the freaks. And it wasn’t how Drew did.
xxxxx“There must be something on your mind, Ted. Pink fluffy nightmares again? Bed wetting?” He said this with dryness to his tone, a disinterested comment meant to bait the child. Then he laughed at the boy’s bugged eyes. xxxxx“Seriously? Still bedwetting? Eh, that must be terrible…” His lips spread into a smile while a smug look flickered in the darks of his eyes.
xxxxx“Laura…” Teddy shifted uneasily. “She’s bleeding out sorta bad.”
xxxxxSlowly the smile dropped from Mars’ face, falling into a frown. He focused on the coin twisting between his fingers. “I’m not a doctor, kid.” He said lowly, shaking the long dark bangs from his eyes. He stared, detached from this blubbering boy. “If she dies, it’s not on me, or you, or even town. It’s on Drew Henderson.”
xxxxxHe stood, slipped into the hallway and treaded down the sleek halls in the heavy boots. He wasn’t sure where Amanda was, or the autistic girl, Bo, but he did know where to find Drew and Marjorie. But yet he lingered. He didn’t want to go find Drew. He didn’t want to look the boy in the eye and know that he held something awfully vital to Mars’s sanity: Mattie.
xxxxxBesides. If Drew had Mattie, that only meant the time was coming for Mars’ disposal. Mars would have to begin getting his plans together. And determining when the right time was to strike back.

Marjorie continued to unroll the gauze, wrapping it around Drew's arm and hoping she wasn't cutting off his blood circulation. This whole mess was stupid. It proved just how insane Drew and the students following him really were. Mars had flooded the town, maybe on Drew's orders or maybe not. She didn't know. She tied off the bandaging around his bicep and wondered how her life had gone so wrong.
creedwashereAll she had ever wanted in life was Andy. That was it. Andy, not Drew. They were the same person on the outside, but inside Drew and Andy were as different as fire and water. One burned life to ash, and the other helped create life. Since she had been twelve years old, Marjorie Moreau knew -- or at least thought she knew -- what her life held for her. At fourteen, he would kiss her. At sixteen, they would plan to runaway together but never actually carry through with it. They would go to college together, where Marjorie would find out that she was pregnant. They would get married. They would grow old at each other's sides. Eventually, he would die in her arms, but that was okay. She would be a week behind him. They would be loyal to each other, never even consider leaving the other. They would die for each other if it came to that. They would love each other.
creedwashereThat childish dream seemed a million lives ago as she went to the kitchen sink and washed Drew's blood from her hands. When she was done, she pulled a few locks of hair behind her hair. Her eyes found the blonde boy sitting in the corner, flipping a coin over his knuckles over and over again. Mattie McCotty. Mar's little brother. He was Drew's leverage against the psychopath. When Mars made his move, Drew would hide behind the child. But if push came to shove, what would happen to Mattie?

“Ꮤith great power...comes great need to
take a nap. Ꮤake me up later.”
Water parted around the house, swirling around the porch and washing up the first few steps, pouring into the open basement windows and a heavy sigh escaped me. Getting trapped like this was typical of me, just the kind of situation I was always expected to end up in. I was probably just an idiot, there was dry land no more than thirty feet away from me, but I wasn’t all gung-ho to hop into the water, not with my power anyways. Over the past month I had grown accustomed to the constant electrical humming that my body now emitted and was a dead give away of my power, and now the sound had elevated when my energy levels had spiked during the fight. I had been high-strung for the last several days already, and when I was as high-strung as this I often couldn’t control the bursts of electricity that pulsated off of my body. It had happened quite a few times already and more than a few buildings had had their circuits fried thanks to me. So I really wasn’t keen on hopping in the water and frying the entire town. How I had even managed to make it to this porch without roasting everyone I had no clue. It wasn’t nearly as surprising as the fact that Coates hadn’t taken me to use as leverage against my brother. What with him being the town leader and all and me probably being the only person he actually cared about I would have thought they would have taken advantage of it. Maybe they just couldn’t tell the difference between us and just thought Adam was everywhere at once. It didn’t really matter to the situation I was in now.
A string of curse words were muttered under my breath and I stomped into the house. I had no idea whose house it was, I was just stuck here and it looked pretty looted already. I supposed there was only one thing I could do if I wanted to get out of this place, and that was to waste a hell of a lot of energy. I stomped through the halls for several minutes before finally spinning around and planting my fist firmly against the closest wall available. Alright, against it was an understatement, it was more like I aggressively slammed my fist through the wall and into the wiring within, splitting my knuckles and spattering blood on the floor in the process. “C’mon, c’mon...” There it was, the familiar surge of energy coursing through me and into the conductive wiring. I watched for a moment as every light in the house flared to life. “A little bit more.” The volts continued to build until one after any each of the light bulbs in the house could no longer handle the energy and exploded raining glass onto the floor. “Okay, there, that should do it.” I released my pent up breath and relaxed my grip on the wiring, pulling my bloody fist into my chest. The humming had died down and I figured I had about five or ten minutes before my anxiety caused my energy levels to spike again.
Five minutes was more than enough time though. I bounded through the house, out the door and flung myself off the front steps and into the two foot deep water. The current was enticing and I had to fight to keep the electricity contained, grinding my teeth together and biting my tongue. The second my feet it dry ground and I was free of the water the tugging feel dissipated and I let out another relieved sigh. damn I was an idiot. Briefly I wondered how Adam was holding up with everything that was going on. I hadn’t seen much of him in the past few days, but I just assumed that was part of the responsibilities of being the leader. I flopped down on the grass to assess my injuries, weirdly the worst injury was the one I had given myself by putting my fist through the wall. There were a few other minor cuts and bruises but I wasn’t too scathed. There really hadn’t much that could touch me in the battle. I had basically turned into a walking lighting bolt; anything that had touched me had gotten fried. Of course I had passed out soon after discovering this new ability of turning my entire body into an electric pulse wave. When I had come to there were a lot of dead kids, a ton of injuries, and the town had been flooded completely. “Ugh,” I leaned my head back against the grass, letting my eyes flutter shut. There was a lot of work to be done, but right now, with great power comes great need to take a nap.

xxxxxxxxxNumbers. Numbers never disappear. They never leave the world like the parents and elderly did. They stayed there in the minds of kids, and on the chalk boards of empty school rooms. Numbers are all around, and forever will be there for you. Dylan walked down the child filled street thinking only of that, numbers. Ever since he was a young lad, numbers have been apart of his life. His mother and father would always tell him to count or to add numbers if he was scared. Numbers seemed to always soothe them and it might soothe him as well. For granted, their three year old son could only count up to seven, but it still comforted him. When things went bump in the night, numbers were there to save the day. When he got lost at a supermarket, numbers were there to calm him down. But now, not even numbers could help him through this pickle he was in.
xxxxxxxxxDylan's feet dragged across the cement as he walked down the street. Occasionally they slipped up from a pot hole or two that seemed to appear out of no where. But he regained his balance and continued on walking. Where he was going, he had no idea. He just needed the air, which he took in big gulps. What if the air disappeared soon like the adults did? Quickly he shook that thought a way and moved to numbers.
xxxxxxxxxSixty multiplied by twenty, divided by two, plus forty three equals... he thought to himself as the numbers scrambled together. Suddenly, like a light bulb turning on in a dark room, the answer came to him. six hundred forty three. It was an easy equation and didn't seem to help him at all. His mind then went to another. Two thousand sixty, multiplied by seventy five, divided by two, multiplied by thirty equals... two million three hundred seventy thousand five hundred one.
xxxxxxxxxHis brow furrowed and he stopped. Dylan's fingers reached up and pushed his glassed back onto the bridge of his nose. That answer didn't seem right. It should've been an even number. Did he do the calculations right? How did he mess this on up. Quickly he redid the math in his head and came out with the same answer. Frustration boiled inside him and he kicked at the side walk. Why wasn't he getting the right number?! His teeth gritted together and he gave up on the problem. Slowly his hands moved into the pockets in his holey old blue jeans, to pull out a lighter. His thumb slipped up to the top of the lighter where there was a switch of some sort. Quickly he pushed on it causing a flame to appear. His eyes transfixed on the flame as it danced in the air. He bit his lip and thought about maybe making the flame bigger, but decided to not do so and blew it out.
xxxxxxxxxLet's head to town...maybe there is something interesting there. he thought to himself. Or maybe there is a book or movie you can steal that might calm yourself. And so he made his way from the child crowded streets of his neighborhood, down to the town.

Evan listened as the girl introduced herself, visibly relaxing when she heard that the girl at least sounded friendly. She sighed and ran her fingers through her hair, a smile managing to take residence on her face. "Aaah, hello, er, Kismet! I'm Evan. Listen, um..." She fumbled with her words, trying to think of what she should say next. "Um, sorry about the bat, haha. I just didn't know if you were a psychopath or anything. Better safe than sorry, right? Um, but, yeah, sorry about that little weird incident, haha." God, that sounded so awkward.
Evan desperately tried to think of a way to renew her fault in speech, but decided that talking more would probably just make it worse. She noted she was still holding the bat, and quickly willed the icicles hanging on it to disappear. In small bursts, the ice cracked and seemed to make mini explosions as they disappeared from the bat. Little shards of ice were left on the ground, but she knew they would melt in good time. Even if the girl was a psychopath, she decided that the bat wouldn't have done much good anyway. She could simply just create a wall of ice and get out of there, or even-she thought with a chill-turn the attacker into ice themselves if she used enough energy.
Man, it's hella bad I gotta think that way now, she thought to herself, her smile vanishing for a moment before quickly returning. She had to keep of the guise that she was perfectly and utterly harmless; perhaps a bit stupid, even. The trick had come in handy before, the only bad thing was that after a while, people actually began to think it was true. She shook her head and reminded herself she needed to remain focused on what was currently happening, and if things went well, perhaps she could gain some beneficial resources; like a possible ally. Of course, she had no clue what this girl could do, but decided it was not quite time yet for her to ask. Evan herself was quite open with her powers, having come with the realization that basically everyone had some weird quirk or ability and that no one should be able to judge her because she has one as well.
Looking around, she tried to find a source of conversation. Man, Ev, really? You should have taken some public speaking classes, because dang girl, you awkward as heck. She sighed, and looked at the girl, and crossed her arms. "So, er, uh. What exactly are you doing here?" It seemed like an innocent question, except she wasn't really sure what could be considered as innocent anymore.

Kotka followed Nerd Pup into the back of the big black people mover. His eyes were fixed on Nerd Pup's ankles. Kotka was drooling again; Nerd Pup's legs always made him drool. His black ears perked as he heard Boss Pup's voice. He sat and wagged his tail as he looked up at her. Her scent rang of a blinding orange, mixed with swirls of black. Anxious. He tilted his head, wondering why.
creedwashereAnd then the people mover started moving. "Move!" he barked as his paws padded uneasily. "Mover move!" Nerd Pup moaned and let his face fall into his hands. Kotka's ears folded back when he growled, "Quiet, Pup!" Nerd Pup picked up a tool next to him and threw it at him. Kotka ducked just in time, and turned to look at the dent in the side of the people mover. "Dent," he said. "Nerd Pup make dent, Boss Pup! Make dent! Bad dent! Hurt people mover dent! Dent! dent!" His bright blue eyes found Jared. "Bad pup."xx

The edges of Jared's vision started to turn red. This whole dog-is-talking thing was insane. One bite from a coyote was all it took to make a dog talk. A talking coyote. People with strange powers he could take. But Kotka, standing on the other side on the back of the van from him, blaming him for a dent in the van's side... not even Jared could take that. He stole a glance at Cassie and Adam in the driver's and passenger's seat at the front of the van, wondering if he could possibly strangle Kotka without either of them noticing.
creedwashereJared leaned his head back against the van wall, deciding to postpone the mutt's murder for a bit. He was tired. As it turned out, though not to his surprise, war had that affect. He hadn't died, which actually did surprise him, despite the fact that he was basically hiding under a rock. It was a necessity, Jessi had said. He was the only brain they had and they couldn't afford to lose him. It still made him feel like a wimp. And the town was basically flooded. More bad news. Well, actually, that depended on the outlook. On one side, the town was flooded and they would all be electrocuted. On the other, the town had the world's largest swimming pool.
creedwashereHe popped his fingers, then his neck, and leaned forward. His eyes watched Kotka watching him. Eventually he had to pull his gaze away, up to the front of the van. He could only see the treetops passing by through the windshield. "Are we there yet? Why did Jessi even leave in the first place?"
