As one by one the room was filled, and the king was steadily informed, Celairin listened closely to the information given. All their apparent attempts on getting rid of the spiders that haunted Mirkwood were in vain. They were not getting rid of the spiders quickly enough and thoroughly enough it seemed, as with each nest destroyed, many more seemed to pop up in its place; this only tiring the Mirkwood troops that were sent to destroy it.

A frown gracing her face, Celairin stated, "It is apparent that our efforts are in vain, m'lord." And in vain they were; the problem wasn't stopping, it was only slowing down the progress, but it was certain that their numbers would leap if not stopped now. How many elves were already lost in the battle against Ungoliants spawn? How many were going to perish in the future? Choosing her words carefully, Celairin continued, "The problem is only worsening; we are wasting time and effort, and if we continue, it will be certain that the spiders will overrun us."

"We need to kill these beasts at their source, and that simply has to be Dol Goldur. There is no other place such ugly spawn can be birthed."

As Tauriel spoke up once more, Celairin could only agree. If they were to kill the beasts at their spawn point, it would be certain that there would be no more upcoming generations in their wake. Glancing at Tauriel, Celairin gave a brief nod in showing her agreement, as she pushed away the bluntness and lack of respect that had been included in the tone; though what the king thought of it wasn't certain. Taking that matter in her own hands, Celairin could only hope that she could soften the possible rebuttal of the king. "I agree wholeheartedly. If we can stop the problem at it's roots, it is certain that the problem itself will fall too."

He managed to listen quietly to all of their thoughts. Thranduil felt as if they all had something else to say, and however much he'd like them to say it, to just tell him, he also had a feeling that he wouldn't want to hear most of it. On the contrary to what many believed, he wasn't in complete ignorance of what Tauriel had been trying to make him understand. At first, he had only meant to protect Mirkwood, just making sure the arachnids remained beyond borders. However, he hadn't foreseen the daring nature of the spiders. He had been firm about boundaries in the beginning, telling the first patrol to spot the beasts within limits to simply put an end to them, but one nest turned to three and three turned to dozens. Along with that, his firmness turned to stubbornness. It was only afterwards did he realize that her words held truth and pride kept him from allowing Tauriel (and many others) to do what she'd been suggesting. It had only been recently that he'd decided to completely review the problems that threatened the entire Woodland Realm.

The Elvenking felt the sharp tingle of elvish gazes on him but remained silent, taking a moment to organize his thoughts. Haldir did mention the use of magical assistance. Thranduil, of course, didn't know the full extent of the spiders numbers, and though he'd never admit it, tried to keep track of how many nests were exterminated within a given amount of time. Given this, he was only aware that there were many more of the dark creatures than he was able to tolerate. More than they were able to defeat alone.

"Haldir," he addressed as his hands tightened around each other behind his back. "Would Lady Galadriel be willing to grant us assistance?"

haldir - post three

haldir ;; marchwarden

When spoken to directly, he could not help but hesitate. He had not heard from Galadriel lately though she had said she would do her best to aid them. "I've heard little of her since I've come here," he said quietly, "of course since our territory and Mirkwood are quite a ways apart, that's hardly unexpected. Though, I did request she come with me to aid you. From the sound of it through our last contact, she's leaving Lothlorien in the hands of her husband and venturing here. I am not sure how close she is to arriving." He tilted his head, rubbing a temple as if apologizing. He hoped that she would arrive soon; things were starting to get desperate.

He cleared his throat awkwardly, looking at the others before his blue eyes landed back on Tharanduil. "To plainly answer your question, she has fully intended to, though it's unknown as to when she will arrive." He tended to ramble, sadly, when he was nervous, and indeed their dire situation was not sitting easily in his head. He absently wondered if any of the other marchwardens serving the Lord and Lady could have come, though he doubted so. They had to protect the area that they called home first. Calming himself down and absentmindedly touching his sword, he reminded himself that the battle was still ongoing and they had not yet been defeated. There was hope; he just needed to bring more allies in the permanently end these spiders.

If that was even possible; those wretched creatures bred so fast it was amazing they could even kill any of them. With a frown at the thought, he waited for anyone else to speak of their input. To put it plainly, they needed more help.

ooc: would you like me to find someone to play her or are we all kinda going to use her as an NPC? since not all the spots are filled??

His head nodded slowly as he took in the information. He otherwise would have taken note of the tone in Haldir's voice had it not been for the fog that was so quickly beginning to wrap around his mind. "I- Thank you, Haldir," he corrected himself, a slightly confused expression consuming his normally placid features.

He paused as he tried to gather his thoughts into a working order again.
"Before a... war starts," he said with the lack of a better word, "I need to be reminded of what we're facing. I'm going to go for a walk later on. You four can join me if you like," he said in a lower volume. It was true, though. He almost couldn't recall the last time he had actually seen one of the Great Spiders, and therefore he had a dulled view of the threat they possessed. And, through the small pounding in his skull, he wondered if a walk would also have the ability to clear his head of the state it was currently in.

"Anything else worth mentioning while you're here?"

{yes, if you can find somebody to play her, that would be great, but if you can't, then that's okay too uvu
also, i know this is short but i've got a really bad writers block and along side that, i'm going to be really busy these next few days, so there may or may not be a post from me. just a warning}

egolas reenleaf

Legolas was silent once he had voiced his opinions; but he still listened attentively as the others gave their thoughts. He agreed wholeheartedly with Tauriel and Celairin, definitely; their efforts were failing, and pretty much everyone knew it. He had first responded to this inevitable battle with confidence bordering on smugness and had naïvely told himself that they the Elves would quite obviously emerge the victors, but that old hope had withered and died long ago. This was a losing battle, and the elves of Greenwood ("not Greenwood anymore, Mirkwood," he corrected himself) knew it. Even if they did win this by some awesome miracle, their ranks had significantly diminished in the wake of this fray.

Defeat was never glorious, but nor was victory always renowned.

"I do not believe aught more is to be said, my lord," he heard himself saying, but it felt as if his mind had wandered out of his body as he scrutinized the king. His father looked undoubtedly haggard; there was a glazed, unfocused sort of look in those usually sharp, frosty eyes, and the sort of bewildered detachment Legolas could hear in Thranduil's voice was befitting that of some exhausted soldier returning from a long and weary battle. He felt concern growing in his heart, but he managed to reluctantly tuck this anxiety to the back of his mind. There would be a time to address his father later.

"I believe a walk would be benefitting to all of us," he said instead, glancing at his fellow comrades to ensure he spoke the truth.
