Skylar blushed deeply and hid her face as they walked through the crowded halls. Wow just this morning she had wished more people would notice her, be careful what you wish for. When they walked into the Charms rooms Skylar noticed how nervous and tense Monroe got. Flitwick being the head of her house Skylar was much more comfortable around the man. "Peeves dropped some kind of charmed paint balls on us and the paint come off but it leaves a stain. And we tried some spells but it wont come off." She said pointing to her green hair. The old man couldnt help but give a small smirk as he looked at the colorful girls before him. The wizard raised his want and let out a mess of words in Latin that Skylar had never heard before. All the paint vanished from their clothes and skin. "Now I know what he used and sadly it wont leave your hair for about 3 days. It's a nasty potion that Severus created to try and get back at James for turning all of his robes purple. I'm not sure how Peeves got a hold of it or how he got a hold of so much but this is the best I can do for you ladies." Skylar gave a soft sigh but gave him a thankful smile. "Thank you for the help Professor. Can you send a House Elf to Professor Vector that I'm going to be late?" The Charms Master gave a nod and turned to Monroe. "And whom should I inform of your tardiness Ms. Black?"

Monroe listened to the jumble of words. She let out a sigh of relief to see that her robes and skin where clean. Once he started talking, she zoned out for a moment, thinking about the Latin words he had said. She never had heard of them before, but he was the Charms Master. The Hufflepuff snapped out of her brief thoughts when Flitwick started speaking. She held a strait face, although thought it was hilarious that Snape's robes where once purple.

Monroe wondered why Skylar needed a House Elf, they could explain by their hair. She looked at him. "Oh, Hag- I mean, Professor Hagrid." she corrected herself. Hagrid let her call her 'Hagrid' when she wanted, but not around the other students. She gave a slight nod and thanked the Charms Master before turning and walking away. She pushed a lock of soaked pink hair behind her ear, sighing.

Hagrid gave a polite clap as the girl did the spell properly and he reached down inside the tank, grabbing the frozen snake and walking over to one of the crates, putting it inside and turning back to the class. "Alright, you guys all take turns. Start the fire, let it die down and once the Ashwinder appears, freeze it, grab it and put it in the crates." He stepped back and folded his arms over his chest, his eyes finding the class and he raised his eyebrows expectantly. "Oh don't just sit around, get on with it." he waved an arm, motioning towards the glass tank and he coughed hard into his shoulder.

Professor Vector

The dark haired witch walked to the front of the room, and a hush fell over the student. She was dressed in her normal dark red robes. "The art and science of Arithmancy is an ancient one, and one of the earliest recorded forms of magic. Wizards from such ancient civilizations as the Chinese, Greeks, Egyptians, Babylonians, Incas, and Aztecs recorded their Arithmantic spells on clay and stone tablets, and many of these survive to this day, giving us an important insight into how Arithmancy affected the development of the Wizarding world throughout the centuries and across many cultures.

Sadly, most witches and wizards today remain woefully ignorant of Arithmancy, and many are shockingly proud of this fact. It is not at all uncommon to hear someone say, “Oh, I was always terrible at Arithmancy in school!” Oddly, few seem so willing to admit they struggled with Charms or Transfiguration.

But for those witches and wizards with a basic understanding of and facility with elementary Arithmancy, a world of possibilities is available! Though I am only providing a basic introduction to the subject today, I do hope that you will be intrigued enough to consider studying it in the future. After all, an OWL in Arithmancy is a gateway to many prestigious careers.

In this introductory lesson, I will refrain from presenting you with a great deal of theory; instead, my goal is to give you an inkling of how Arithmancy works. In general, Arithmancy is the magical art or science (depending on which expert you consult) that employs the naturally occurring magic of numbers.
You are probably aware of some of the common household uses of Arithmancy, such as checkbook balancing and cooking spells. Those who never study the subject formally are often left with the impression that this is the extent of the usefulness of Arithmancy. “Why should I bother to study Arithmancy?” they ask. “I already know how to whip up a tasty stew for eight, after all.”

You have also, no doubt, been exposed to the uses of Classical Arithmancy that overlap with Divination. In this branch of Arithmancy, letters of the alphabet are assigned digits 1-9 and then are manipulated in order to make predictions about the personality, predilections, and possible future of an individual based on his or her name. Many Arithmancers consider this branch of the field a bit woolly, to be honest. In Modern Arithmancy, there are other more noble and powerful ways to employ the magic of numbers, as will be demonstrated in this introductory lesson.

The power of Arithmancy, I must admit, lies partly in the fact that so many are ignorant of it. The spells you will learn in this introductory lesson, for example, would be utterly unmysterious to one who had studied Arithmancy for a mere year or two at school. But I suspect that you will be able to use them quite easily without many people understanding how this magic works." The witch went on with her normal speech that she said at the beginning of every year.

Rowan grinned when she was applauded by Hagrid. She watched him take away the snake, and was a bit disappointed. She had wanted to touch it, but after a moment assumed it would feel just like any other snake. Sighing, she decided she didn't really have anything else to do for the rest of class since she had gone first. Hugging herself around the middle, stepping away from the tank.

Her eye's scanned over the ground of red and yellow, spotting a few more familiar faces beside Timothy's, like Nick, Felicity, and Lincoln, whom were all Gryffindors. Then there was Feray, Abigail, and Monroe, Hufflepuffs that she only knew because of quidditch. I need to make some friends, she thought, frowning a bit as she realized that outside of quidditch, she didn't know many people that weren't in Gryffindor.

Shaylene quickly put her rag back inside the bag, checking the small mirror as the professor walked towards the front of the room. She looked at the spot, noting it was almost gone though there was a slightly tinted yellow color to her cheek. She sighed softly and put the mirror back in the bag as well before grabbing her Arithmancy notebook, setting it down on the desk before she closed her back and she sat up the right way and opened to the newest page in that book, tapping the quill against the corner of the page as the professor droned on about the class. She really didn't like Arithmancy but she knew she'd just have to get over it. It was useful for basically every wizarding profession and she wanted to know how to do it almost effortlessly. She looked up at the board where some of the warm up problems were written down and she began to write them out on her paper, biting on her lip subconsciously.

Timothy Lane

Timothy was one of the first few students to actually stand up and walk to the tank, watching as a few other students did the process. He couldn't help but feel a slight swell of pride for the red head. He looked towards the glass tank as another snake was removed and he looked back over his shoulder as Rowan walked away. He bit his lip and looked back to the tank a moment, it becoming his turn sooner than he'd imagined. He stepped forward and did everything in order. Start the fire. Wait for the Ashwinder. Wait. Spell cast. Remove snake. Crate. Done. He walked back over to the seats, the stone making small benches and he sat down by himself despite the fact that each bench comfortably sat three. He looked down to his hands, fiddling them together slightly.

Feray perked up, having read in the past about these creatures, and their usual properties. He stood, waiting for the crowd at front to clear up before doing what he needed to do, his wand having left his bag and into his hands, a comfortable, smooth fit that made his hand warm. Picking up his Ashwinder, he put it in the crate, noting the small feeling of warmth it gave to him, and set it in to a crate. he stood away from the benches awkwardly, not knowing if he should sit with the rest or stay standing up, and wait till everyone was done.

Rowan bit her lip, and saw that the Hufflepuff boy Timothy had finished up with his Ashwinder. Perhaps I should try to make a friend, Rowan thought to herself, and walked over to him. "Hello, Timothy, right? I'm Rowan Clark," she greeted in a soft, sweet, yet strong voice. Well, less sweetness actually, more boldness. She liked to make herself seen as someone to not push around, just in case.

She brushed her vivacious red bangs out of her light, blue-grey eyes, which were complimented nicely by her simple black eyeliner and mascara. She'd always been told that her eyes were prettier without all of the black make up, but she enjoyed putting it on nonetheless. Nibbling on her lip again, she adjusted her robes, which did fit her nicely, but we're still a bit too far on the big side.

felicity's eyes lit up as Hagrid mentioned their working with the Ashwinders, a creature she knew much about simply off the top of her head. she waited semi impatiently as Rowan was called up to demonstrate because she simply couldn't wait to do it herself. once Rowan had finish, she stepped forward with her classmates, a half quirked smile playing across her pale lips. reaching into the folds of her robes, she pulled out her holly wand and quickly cast the spell upon one of the creatures before carrying it's stiffened body to one of the crates Hagrid had specified. with a smile and a grin, she hurried back over to sit with the others, eager to spend some time with her classmates.

Flitwick gave a nod and snapped his fingers. A small shivering House Elf was soon at his feet. "Zip please tell Professors Vector and Hagrid that these ladies are pardoned for the time they have missed." The little elf gave a nod and popped away. "Thank you professor." Skylar said gratefully. The Ravenclaw toke Monroe's arm and lead her out of the class room. Once out in the hall Skylar turned and looked at Monroe. "Why did you get some nervous?" She asked curious.
