he was a bit amazed by the man's sudden change of manner. though james' demeanor still resembled one of a mouse, it became more meek and shy than the previous talkative fool. it's clear to see the moose is uncomfortable with the stoat and siamese cat shifters, but why? he was so animated not only five minutes ago. for some reason, colby's words had hit him to the point he changed attitude, or was it not colby's words, but the girl's?

curiosity takes over the stoat shifter's mind as he wonders what caused the sudden change, and what will cause another?

colby's figure follows james' pose unconsciously, but in a power manner, not meek like the moose's. the boy's hands drift into his pockets, his phone as well with his sweatshirt hanging from his elbow, and relaxes. his chin tilts up and his feet separate a bit more than before. "i wouldn't say stupid." colby shrugs, his voice coming out as monotone. boredom laces his words, though he may have a slight interest in the man's sudden change. just a slight, though. "a fool, but not stupid. if you were stupid you would have ignored what i said and talked even more."

the stoat really doesn't like the cat. it is understandable, though, since she has this crazed look in her eyes that causes colby to shiver internally. what was she thinking? could she possibly have been imagining a scenario colby certainly wouldn't like one bit? such as the cat chasing the stoat around, maybe even suffocating him by pouncing on him? he almost shivers visibly. that would be some sort of sick torture for him.

though he noticed the moose's sudden change, he didn't expect the cat to as well, nor comment on it. she is a bit more observant than colby originally thought, maybe as observant as him. she had picked up on the man's strange behavior just as easily as the stoat and reacted to it, even physically. he would never do that; he would never "knuckle sandwhich" someone, especially not make an effort to stand on his toes just to do the action. luka and him are so different in many ways, such as the way she grins like any cat would, and her outspoken personality. colby could be like her, if he really tried (and anyone could be like him,) but why would he want to? what is so appealing about being talkative and social and meeting people? he can't imagine himself acting as the feline does, interacting with strangers and acting as if they are close friends. it just doesn't fit colby at all.

the way she said "pals" as if she was so sure about it, and without any hesitation, irks colby. they never met before, yet the girl can say that. how can she claim all of them to be friends when she barely knows any of the people in the shop? how does she know they are all friendly or even like her? "pals" aren't people you just met, they are close to you. if anything, the girl has acquaintances, though colby wouldn't mind being labeled as her enemy. "we're not "pals,"" he huffs, not liking the sound of her words one bit.

"and i'm not grumpy, i just don't like annoying cats that get into other people's business." actually, he doesn't like anyone who gets into other people's business, especially when they try to get into his.

someone's voice came and colby looks towards the counter to see a blonde boy behind it. he looks as if he is waiting on colby, which helps colby register that the boy is ready to take his order. without needing to think, the stoat replies, "yeah, i'll have black coffee but with caramel." he doesn't know the proper name for the coffee he always gets (or even if it has one) but he wouldn't use it even if he did. the boy before him smells strongly of feline, causing colby's nose to scrunch in displeasure. "great.. another cat shifter.."

Kya woke up in her small appartment. Still tired and stiff, she stretched her arms above her head and rolled out of bed. She wasn't much of a morning person, which could be because of the coyote side of her. After slipping on her favorite pair of skinny jeans and a cozy sweater, she headed to the kitchen. She began to brew a nice cup of hazelnut coffee. Kya took a deep breath in. "Ah. Nothing like a delicious cup of coffee" She grabbed her coffee and her sketchbook and headed out the door. After going down a couple flights of stairs, she stepped out into the crisp morning air. For Kya, there was nothing like being outside. It was where she felt the most comfortable. She began to walk to her favorite place in town to sketch. It was just outside a cafe and there were always plenty of interesting people passing in and out of the shop. As she approached her favorite spot, she sat down on an empty bench, took a sip of coffee, and took a look at her surroundings. She glanced across the path and saw another shifter sitting on a bench across from her. She was pretty sure he was another canine alpha, she had seen him a lot around the community. She then took out her sketchbook and began to sketch the landscape around him.

Halt watched the passersby who meandered through the park, all minding their own business. Taking a sip or two of his coffee, he looked across the path to see a girl who glanced in his direction before directing her attention to a sketchbook. Somehow motivated to start conversation, perhaps because his keen nose could smell that she was another shifter, probably a canine like him, he stood and walked over to the bench beside her.
"Hello," he said quietly, not loud enough to be overheard. "What are you drawing?" He asked, hoping she didn't mind the slight invasion of privacy as he looked at her sketchbook. It was a landscape, and well-drawn too, and it looked to be the area around them. He was impressed with her skill, though he didn't say anything to show it.

(Hey, sorry I haven't posted in a while! I lost muse for a while and kind of ignored things. Here I am, though, with a post! Even though it's short, sorry.)

Lex smiled and shrugged. "Come on short stuff," he teased taking her hand and winking to the human girls to the side. He then pulled out the watch all shifters had and pretended to check the time, just to let them know that they didn't want him. after putting it back in his pocket, he started to walk out of the shop, holding the door open for corie before shutting it behind him and walking towards the forest with her beside him. "So are we gonna race, or just mess around?" he asked, just so he knew that he could either go easy on her or completely beat her.

Nicolas looked down and smiled at the girl. Pushing back in his chair he then stood and offered her his hand. The vest rubbing uncomfortably on his armpits. He widened his stance to help keep him balanced and also pull the girl up or offer a sturdy place to pull herself up. Once she was standing he grabbed a cookie from his napkin and offered it to her. "Cookie? It's chocolate ship if you care." He threw his hand out and gestured to the chair across from him, silently asking if she wanted to sit down.

→ JAIME "J" ROBERT MORAN.
location; coffeehouse - tagged; basil, everyone in the coffee shop

Jaime smiled and slid a five dollar bill across the counter, accepting his drink gratefully. "Thanks," he said as he fished an additional five out of his wallet, dropping it into the tip jar. "Keep the change, too."

Turning away from the counter, Jaime started over towards the bookshelves nearer the back of the shop. He picked up the book that had fallen earlier off the ground, thumbing through the pages. His eyes lingered over the inked in illustration before shutting the cover and placing it on the nearest stack of books. Though the drawing had piqued his interest, the book itself didn't seem to have anything to do with the kingdom. He wondered though, if that was the only book here with drawn in notes like that.

Jaime scanned the wall of volumes, searching for the book that the guy at the counter had recommended. Reaching the Sky. He spotted it instantly: the small collection of slim blue spines with silver lettering, resting on a shelf with some of the shop's newer books. He carefully slid one of the novels from its place on the shelf. Flicking through the pages, a flash of dark black ink caught his eye. Scribbled in the bottom corner a page, was another drawing. Albeit much smaller, it was the same castle he had seen in the other book.

He began to make his way back to the counter to pay for the book, when he noticed that the shop had gotten much more crowded than it was when he had come in. His sharp eyesight noted the black watches that many of the patrons seemed to be wearing, identical to the one that was strapped loosely to his own right wrist. Jaime didn't think he'd ever noticed so many shifters in one place.

Kya : Canine alpha : Coyote : Talking with Halt
Kya continued to sketch, but then as she looked up, she noticed the shifter was gone. She was then startled by someone speaking to her. It was the shifter. "Oh, um. Nothing much really. Just some bushes and trees and stuff..." Kya was not very used to interacting with people. Why do I have to be so awkward? she thought. Kya tried to smile, but it probably just made her look even more awkward.

[oc;; sorry this post kind of sucks, and is short. i'm faintly tired and my muse is pretty low]

"Curiosity killed the cat, mm?" Luka smirked slightly, placing both her hands on her hips as she completely disregarded Colby's comment. Regardless if she was jumping into their business, what else was a gal supposed to do? Especially a bored one? Rolling her eyes at Colby, her mouth became ajar in an exhausted yawn, and she sighed. Anyway, Luka stepped at Colby's side and leaned over the counter towards Basil, grinning. Voice slightly lowered, she spoke. "Look out, Basil, the little weasel here doesn't like us cats too much. Wouldn't blame him, given my instinct is to chase him around, pounce, and rip him to pieces." Given her and Basil worked at the same coffee shop, she knew his name -- he was a sweet guy, she'd learned -- she figured it would be nice to get to know him a little better. She hadn't really talked all too much to any of her work-mates, mostly because she was always quite exhausted at work -- and just not in the mood. Regardless, the ripping to pieces thing? Luka wouldn't do anything like that. But it was rather fun to tease him about it ~ Raising her head and staring at the choices on the menu, Luka picked a caramel frappe and prepared to order after Colby and the moose, James, had finished ordering.

[ooc; sorry for this terrible post, too, heh, i'm also sorry it's so short ugh, next time it'll be longer!]

"I beg to differ," Alec spoke, crossing his legs as he leaned back against the old wooden bench and chuckled softly before speaking again. "The government wants it's people to be perfect," he then leaned a bit closer, so he could manage to whisper and allow her to hear it. "Like us, for example, I'm sure the entire government would love to plunge a knife deep in our throats and rid the world of us forever, mm?" leaning away from her again, he stretched his arms behind himself and yawned, closing his eyes. "Nice to meet you, Alaska. That's quite the name you've got there. I've been to Alaska before. Gorgeous state. Would I wouldn't take the run wild through the forest through there --." His voice ended up trailing off towards the end, until he grew quiet for a few moments. Finally recovering his wits, he sat up straight and placed his hands in his lap, thinking of what to say next. The girl at his side seemed to be taking his presence pretty nicely -- she didn't seem to mind him too much -- or so he hoped. "So, Alaska, what are you doing sitting here -- probably bored half to death, all alone?" He asked, curiosity lacing his voice.

Halt nodded in acknowledgement. He studied the drawing for a few more moments, eyes darting over the details in the picture. "It's well done. Are you an aspiring artist?" He asked, his voice that same quiet yet strong tone. He looked away from the drawing, aware that he might be making the girl uncomfortable, and looked around at the landscape, comparing it to the sketch in the book. "I'm Halt O'Carrick, by the way. And you are?" He inquired, holding out his hand for her to shake.

I know this is semi-lit/lit, but I've got the WORST writer's block and I have a hard time doing details when a conversation is just starting. Once I get back into the swing of RPing my posts will be proper-sized, I promise!)

Wren nodded, having no time to say anything else as she took a sip of her iced coffee and was off. He supposed he probably should've told her where to meet him, since there was several coffeehouses around town, but he figured she'd go to the nearest one. After literally walking around for twelve or so minutes, having no customers, unsurprisingly, he left. He didn't have anything to bring with him, since he hadn't taken anything to work. He'd have to be back by one, but the library lady probably wouldn't miss him all that much. He ran home to pick up his watch and sunglasses, which he was sorely missing, and some money, then jogged back to the coffee shop. He wanted to wait outside for her, but it was getting too cold, so he stepped inside and leaned on the wall so she could see him when she walked in. He pushed his sunglasses up his nose, finally having the dark shades to conceal his emotions. And they made him look cool, in his opinion. He combed his fingers through his hair, waiting for her and wondering what people even did when they went out for coffee. Talk? Get to know each other? This isn't a date, Lawrence, don't think of it as a date. He reminded himself. He'd barely met her. We could be friends, He thought nervously. Good friends. He remembered what Airy's shift was, a purple-crowned fairy wren. A wren, He thought. What a coincidence. He looked up as the bell on the door jingled, telling him that someone had walked in.
