    MAYA WITLOCK
    ██████████████████
    year 7 gryffindor tagged: wes
pass
"maya.. please. let's,,, just.. go...." mrs witlock sighed from the kitchen, already worn out by her daughter's non-stop marching between floors and rooms. maya had a habit of leaving stuff all over the house, so she'd end up finding her books in the kitchen and her wand with her toothbrush. and that all would've been fine, but maya, being the mess that she is, decided to do so just a couple hours before leaving london. she smiled sheepishly at her mother, who looked all ready to melt into a puddle of desperation, carrying the last stack of books over to her carry-on backpack. the jinxes & hexes and mythical creatures books could barely fit between the candy and other knickknacks. "all done!" she exclaimed, slipping the bag onto her shoulders. mrs witlock looked at her fondly, before finally pressing a peck to her cheek with a soft "great, let's go." they'd both turned around ready to head out, but not before maya gestured for her mother to get the numerous suitcases sitting in the hallway.

as maya and her mother strode towards platform 9¾, she noticed they'd arrived fairly early for a change. she decided to credit the short car ride, and not her incapability to convince milky way he'd be just fine riding in the trunk for twenty minutes. his aviary ended up in the passenger's seat while maya sat in the back. every few minutes she'd mumble "not funny!" or "the bird did not 'dominate' me, i gave up the spot willingly" to her mother, because even though she couldn't see her face, she knew she was biting back a laugh. in a few short minutes, maya was sitting in an empty compartment, waving to her mother who was just about to leave the station. she was often told they look alike, which she never really got. sure, they both had strawberry blonde hair and green eyes, but they said the same about maya and her sister, when erica and their mother looked nothing alike.

riding the train has been her favorite thing about going back to hogwarts ever since the first time it left the station. there was something calming in the rhythm of wheels turning. mixed with the chatter of students, it was perfect white noise for studying the books she'd packed earlier. but they weren't taking off just yet, so maya spent her time watching the students and parents outside, occasionally sharing a word with milky(milky? milk?? idk) who returned the favor. getting a budgie into hogwarts isn't any easy task, and it took a while before the principal got tired of listening to her convincing - which consisted of all the most valid reasons, and some not as valid ("milky way has a passion for transfiguration studies"). but the small green parrot was now resting in her lap, with a spot assured in the gryffindor dormitory. unfortunately for the both of them, she was sat in an uncomfortable position, so he ended up being shooed back to his aviary. she could hear avery scolding the younger students in the hall. few compartments over fell silent, but a door shut later, all shouting and laughing was back, making her chuckle softly.

just as maya opened her backpack to pull out one of her books, wesley entered her compartment. well, entered might not be the right word, stumbled, fell, tripped would be more like it. maya was grinning because, for one, she hasn't seen wes all summer, two, because his almost-face plant was hilarious. even with all of his unidentified items landing on top of her - or rather, her head - maya was still laughing uncontrollably "gosh wes, i see you're still as graceless as ever!" she gestured to the pile of books, journals or other. she managed to keep most of them from falling on the floor, but still some ended up victims of the door handle, including one of hers. she sat up straight again, putting all the books she was holding in a stack "nice to see you, clumsy." she said - fondness heavy in her voice, stretching out her hands for a hug "how's summer been?" even though they've sent eachother letters, maya preferred to discuss their summer face to face, the way they started every school year.

        WESLEY LOCKLEARE
        ────────────────────☀──────────────────────
        ( location; hogwarts express ) ( house; hufflepuff ) ( mood; giddy ) ( tags; maya )

⊱ Wesley blinked stupidly from the floor of the compartment, a bit shell-shocked by his own flimsy footing. But when he looked up to Maya's face, a lopsided grin slipped across his teeth to match her own. Merlin, he missed that smile. Maya had a way about her─she was the human embodiment of the feeling of walking from a freezing room into the warm sunshine. He felt his whole body defrost instantaneously. With a grunt he lifted himself from the floor and dusted off the butt of his pants with his hands. "Uh-huh, and how are you, you bloody minx?" he teased with a loving tone, wrapping his arms around her and planting a quick kiss on her cheekbone. He sunk into the seat beside her, sliding his trunk into one of the storage compartments above and taking the small stack of his things from her lap.

Wesley and Maya had a system every summer holiday. They lived too far away to really make visits, and truth be told Wesley spent too much of his time scurrying this way and that about the countryside looking for various places of haunting to be bothered to go anywhere. But they wrote letters. Oh boy did they write letters. At least one or two every week depending on how fast the post was. However, they always made sure to save the best news for the train ride to school. This was mostly Maya's idea, but Wes didn't mind. He loved watching her face light up firsthand (even if she was louder than a Howler when she got excited).

"Summer's been..." he weighed his thoughts for a second, not sure how to explain it, "it's been interesting. Like I wrote you, Mum's gone and bought a muggle car. It's a bloody piece of crap, and Harlan's the only one that'll go near it. It makes this awful retching noise anytime he turns it on and it reeks like the dead!" he sighed, slipping further down the seat so he was sitting directly on his tailbone. "But, Harlan wants to get a muggle job. Merlin only knows why! Says it's the future of the wizarding world─muggle inventions and industries. I say he's mad. Too many bludgers to the head, that one. And...ah! Oh yeah, you know that old silo I told you about? The one over the hill? Benji helped me up to it and look at the beauties I found in there..."

Wes reached for one of his journals, and was flipping through the tattered pages littered with scribbles when an abrupt squeaking pulled his attention to the rucksack at his feet. "Huh? ...Oh! Ari!" Wes handed the journal over to Maya, tapping the page with his spindly finger. "See there, I drew them up. Nasty little boogers." Upon the page was a quick, messy sketch of a pair of ghouls with buck teeth and slimy skin. Wesley reached down and from the front pocket of his bag procured a small, brown field mouse. "There you are. My apologies, Ari." he ran a gentle fingertip between the mouse's ears. "Anyway, I knew there must've been at least one ghoul in the silo, I could hear it groaning and screeching all the way from the house. But it was the most peculiar thing, there were two of them living in there! In the silo of all things! I'd never heard of ghouls residing in places besides houses or schools and the like, and certainly never living in pairs." He licked his chapped lips and turned the page for her, "Here, I wrote it all down there."

Wesley had the biggest, goofiest grin plastered on that dorky little face of his. He was rambling, as he does, but he knew Maya would indulge him. She was among the few that would.

"And what about yourself, miss?" He pulled a licorice whip from his pocket (stolen from Luke as compensation), and offered her a bite. "Breaking hearts and taking names?"

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
    Female | 17 | Chaser | Parselmouth | Noctem the Cat | Hogwarts Express

It was cold inside the train compartment. The persistent chill was enough for Lindsay to draw her dark forest green blanket from her bag. She draped the blanket over herself and Noctem stepped lighting onto her lap. The cat stretched a paw for Lindsay's arm, asking to be pet. She complied and stroked Noctem's black fur till she was purring. Her parents liked to occasionally call her with nicknames of either Nox or Nyx. Lindsay did not mind but stayed with her formal one. One year a student had asked why she kept a cat, as opposed to a reasonable thing like a snake. It had not matter if that student was just being a pain or genuine, Lindsay left the Common Room and roamed the halls.

Often in her free time, or as an alternative to rather avoidable situations within the student body, Lindsay would walk throughout the corridors and grounds of the school. She had become quite familiar with the changing staircases and seven stories. She had even discovered some of the secret short cuts from one place to another. Lindsay most preferred routes went to the towering areas, the bridges, and the courtyards. When the need was there she would venture to the library but it was not a well liked place for her. Several students made use of it and there were always questioning stares, and whispers if she picked a not so light read.

From her own bag Lindsay brought a book on vampires. In its early chapters it explained what they looked like; usually pale and gaunt with their most recognizable feature being their sharp fangs. Some people had the misconception that vampires could only eat and digest blood, but that was not the case. In reality they were capable of eating normal things. Though they did have the dislike of garlic. During Defense Against the Dark Arts in years one, two, and three they had covered the topic of vampires but Lindsay wanted to review. The texts available now had more in depth studies and were meant for experienced readers. It had been heard that vampires were able to breed with humans, resulting in a part or half-vampire. The child of the two was called a Dhampir, according to myths.

Previously a student had shouted that she was some sort of freak. Whether or not they were implying a vampire, werewolf, veela, or anything else they would never know. For Lindsay had sent them flying through the hair tumbling over their own shoes, and when they stood up after regaining their balance they found their voice was gone too. Quiet words or even screams were not audible from them, it did not last forever as even the school nurse had told them to just go get some sleep. After that no one called out things at her, or at least not in her presence.

So far no student had knocked on the door or even partly opened it to speak with her. Lindsay paid it no mind and continued on with her readings. Noctem had curled up once again and this time it was on her lap. While she had no knowledge to speak the language of cats, Lindsay could speak with serpents. On her ninth year she had a full conversation with one, before all that had been heard was faint voices when she had been around them. Lindsay had not known speaking parseltongue was a thing until her parents told her. The rare visits to the zoo were interesting after that, her parents encouraged her to use the ability. They spent a long while in the reptile house and all her parents were aware of was a low hissing.

The slight turning of pages filled the compartment as Averys eyes scanned the cursive words, explanations on forced side along apparitions as well as the do's and dont's of apparition when in danger filled the paper as well as several numbered diagrams of different occurrences of splinching. ( the unpleasant and painful outcome of an inept attempt at Apparition that consists in a wizard leaving random parts of his body behind )
Whilst mildly intrigued, his train of thought was interrupted by the loud arrival of a fellow housemate. Scarlett was two years his junior but was already a promising candidate for Ravenclaw head girl. He had, over the past year or so, coached her on being a prefect and she gave him little trouble in understanding what he meant which pleased him greatly and also made his job a hell of a lot easier.

"Morning Scarlett, you're looking a little flustered" he noted as his eyes drifted up from the yellowed parchment and gave a brief smile, readjusting himself on the seat as he did so "Nothing much really, just getting some early study in on the subject of apparition, hopefully it means I wont get splinched on my first attempt" a slight chuckle escaped him as his eyes drifted back to the diagrams. He felt confident that nothing would go wrong but he had always considered which limb he wouldnt mind loosing, it was currently a toss up between his left hand and right big toe, as long as it was easy to heal or replace anyway.
His hand absentmindedly ran over his head as he shut the book and placed it to the right of him, turning his attention back to Scarlett " How has your summer been?" small talk was never Averys strong point, in prefect meetings he always found himself head of the conversation and kept a strict flow and subject to make sure no one strayed into awkward silences, even jokes in the prefects bathroom kept it at bay but for some reason the Hogwarts express was a magnet for it, whether it was the nervous first years arguing over the sorting hat and its future choices or broken summer friendships due to injured owls or misunderstandings being fought out in corridors. The only real positive outcome of the journey, bar the scenery and end destination, was the trolley lady and her array of all things sweet and sugary. People, whether they be muggles or wizards, pure blood or not, always seemed to bond over the consumption of food. The Bertie Botts every flavour beans tests were always a good ice breaker as well as the cards from the chocolate frogs. You could always tell a keen collector was about due to their pride over how many Harry Potters they owned or they could give you the exact number of times Minerva Mcgonagall changed into a cat on the card itself.
Averys current card collection bordered on two hundred, it was nothing spectacular apart from the fact that the majority came from his first and second years at Hogwarts, now he just enjoyed the reminiscing of getting far too excited and buying around ten boxes every train journey, he smirked as he thought of how ridiculous him and his friends were and how one time there was a very big argument over who had gotten the Alastor 'Mad Eye' Moody card when the train had jolted and sent the pile flying all over the compartment, the portrait ended up casting a jinx on the boys when their shouting got too intense and subsequently spent the rest of the trip in silence with a smug looking Moody looking up at them from the floor.

"Oh, I forgot to mention but Ravenclaw quidditch training begins on the fifteenth of September, Madam Hooch has had to get some repairs done on the pitch as apparently some young centaurs have wandered a little too far from the forest and caused a hell of a mess by kicking in some of the hoops, i'm sure she'll mention it but just thought i'd give you a heads up so you can get the message round to the rest of the team asap as I only received her owl yesterday, apparently there's been some heavy weather happening up north and the owls were struggling to get through, i'm guessing its that global warming the muggles are always on about" He explained rather quickly, leaning forwards onto his knees as he gestured with his hands, rubbing he base of his jaw from time to time "Either that or some notorious dark wizard is excellent in causing disruptive weather spells" he joked lightly, eyes drifting to the rising hills and moors as the train sped further and further into the English wilderness, flocks of sheep could be barely made out in amongst the heather and gorse bushes, small waterfalls tumbled from unseen cliff faces and a low settling fog covered the ground as the morning dew began to clear.

scarlett eslie

[age: sixteen] [house/year: ravenclaw - sixth] [tags: avery]

the breath caught in scarlett's throat as she knew who avery was talking about. remembering her brother's death from the year before,

she was vaulted into her memories head-over-heels. she screamed inwardly, trying to tear away from her mind, but its hold was too

strong as it pulled her deeper into her memories.

i raised my wand and screeched out a spell at the oncoming death eaters, and two of them dove into the others as a jet of water

came barreling from my wand straight at them. i hit one square in the nose, and he collapsed. as he looked up, i noticed his nose at an

odd angle. i smiled for some reason as i automatically knew i had broken his nose. as i yelped out more and more spells, the death

eaters were knocked aside one by one. "Crucio!" one screamed, and i saw a blinding red beam come straight at me. i dove out of the

way, but i was hit by the very edge of the cruciatus curse. pain ripped through my muscles as i squirmed on the ground. i let out screams

of pain as i felt the worst feeling ever in my life. it felt as if thousands of hammers were being hammered on my insides. i let out

another scream, but suddenly the pain stopped. i lay there on the ground, not moving, with tears in my eyes. i struggled to my feet,

gasping for air. i looked and saw two death eaters standing over the crumpled form of a student. i rushed to the student's aid, blasting

the voldemort followers with an aqua eructo spell. one instantly crumpled to the ground and didn't move again, and i knew what i had

done. i knelt beside the crumpled figure of my brother, finley. he twitched twice before murmuring my name, and placing his hand on

mine before his head rolled back.

scarlett turned back to avery, and smiled weakly. her memories had flashed by in a few seconds, so he hadn't noticed her moments of

pain. "My summer went fine. My family went to the beach for a few days," she said, and then he continued with

the quidditch remark. "Blast those stupid centaurs. They need to quit partying," she growled, angry that she

wouldn't be zooming around on her broom for a few more days. she loved the thought of slamming her bat into a bludger so she could

knock the quaffle out of somebody's hands. she remembered her tough match a couple years back, when they went against gryffindor.

fred and george had hammered her with bludgers, so she got 'em right back with a nasty bludger to the shoulder, both of them. scarlett

chuckled softly to herself as the twins eyes had been huge since ether didn't know she could hot a bludger that fast or that hard. she

smiled back to avery. "How'd your summer go? Get any owls from friends or did they get lost? Multiple of my owls came

back in a daze when I sent them with a message to my dad while he went on a business trip,"
she asked, and then looked around.

she was getting pretty bored and hoped the first-years had heeded her advice and got their heads in the windows by them.
