aubrey paused her quick movements, listening to what everyone else was saying. when carrie brought up her hunger and ignored the fact that aubrey may have been onto something, she just rolled her eyes. like that was going to get them anywhere. elliot followed up with a snarky comment, which aubrey couldn't help but agree with. but of course, being landon, the reasonable gryffindor, he was polite in saying what everyone else was thinking towards carrie. 'We shouldn't give up on the book just yet. It brought us here, right? Maybe it could bring us back.' Aubrey pointed at Landon, "Bingo!" She said, smiling a little bit. Aubrey rested against one of the many tables in the so-called library, looking back at any of the books looked vaguely familiar. nothing, and none of them looked as if they could transport four teens to and from a library. or to another world, for that matter. 'There isn't any title on the book. Why did you ask about it?'. Aubrey shrugged towards his question. "I was hoping that we could somehow locate it, you know, with some kind of locating spell, and trigger it again. But if we don't know the title, it's not really much help at all." She sighed, resting her head on her hand. "You know, Elliot's idea isn't half bad. We should go explore. We could find something that could give us clues." Aubrey nodded to everyone confidently. "And we could find some food," She stole a glance at Carrie, giving her a small smile. So they were all hungry, now. If they found anything to eat while they were scouring the halls, they would definitely take it. Aubrey began to stroll through some of the isles of books, not daring to touch the spine of any of them.

carrie, gryffindor - post two

Postby nnewtscamander » Thu Jan 07, 2016 1:01 pm

caroline magnolia joseph - gryffindor - currently still confused and still hungry

Carrie had half expected the response she got. She didn't expect them to baby her or laugh at her complaint. She understood Elliot's reply. He is a Slytherin after all, what more could you possibly ask of him? The part that baffled her was how polite Landon was about it. In fact, not only was she baffled but she was a bit peeved. She was vaguely biased against Ravenclaws and their talent for making it seem like the know everything about everyone and anything. She did not enjoy being analyzed and the forte of most Ravenclaws seemed to be precisely that. So, seeing that this particular member of the house was being polite to her frustrated Carrie. She most definitely didn't enjoy being proven wrong, even if that wasn't something Landon was actually trying to do.

She was less baffled, however by Audrey's lack of comment. Again, she was a Hufflepuff and Hufflepuffs are anti conflict. And, as it turns out, this specific Hufflepuff is also a teensy bit manic. Carrie listened to all of their suggestions, since they were definitely much more level headed than hers, and thought for a moment. After forming her own opinions of the matter at hand, she looked around at the other three students and started making her case. While wandering around a strange place we know nothing about and could very well get quite lost in is an incredible idea, thank you Elliot, she says snidely to the Slytherin before getting serious, It may do us well to check out the book a bit more. I mean, for all we know opening it again could send us back to our proper timeline. Then again, it could also send us even farther in history or do nothing at all. Doesn't hurt to try... Carrie crosses her arms over her chest and bites her lip thinking for a moment again. Actually, you know there could be quite a few consequences in trying. So, we may want the walking brain's opinion. She says with a smirk directed towards Landon. Yeah, listen to him not me. I can barely figure out my herbology homework much less this crap.

        >>>Landon frowned slightly in frustration. A locator spell would be a good idea, if only it would work. But the frustration was laced with confusion. Why would a locator spell be necessary? The book was right there in front of them, or at least, a replica. Perhaps it was the past version of the book, if that made any sense. But then again, they were stuck in the past, or what seemed like the past. Could a locator spell be used to find the book of their timestream or would it try to locate the book existing in the past? If it was the latter, then the locator spell wouldn't do much good. "Tough luck," he said simply to Aubrey with a shrug. As frustrating as it was not to have an instantaneous answer, it wouldn't be logical to get upset over it. Besides, it was getting more and more fun. But he decided it wasn't a good idea to tell the other three that being stuck in wherever they were was fun, since they might not agree with his viewpoint. He couldn't help but smile a little at what Aubrey said after that, to Carrie. Trust the Hufflepuff to be the pacifist and reach out to Carrie in a friendly way. It was predictable for a Hufflepuff to do so, and it was at times like this that Landon was glad to have a Hufflepuff around. She could help sort out conflicts, which, Landon predicted, there would be quite a number of. But Aubrey wasn't all that good at coming up with solutions, only agreeing to what others had said.

And Carrie, it seemed, was good at disagreeing. Call it instinct or very good perceptive skills, but Landon detected a layer of disdain towards him. Perhaps it was the small furrow of her brows, or the sudden yet subtle hardening of her gaze. He didn't understand why, though. Among the three of them, she should be most upset with Elliot, since he was the one who reacted with sarcasm and spite. Naturally, she reacted the same way back to him. Landon was really starting to get a little annoyed at the sarcasm. A little bit every now and then was refreshing, but having half of the small group constantly using it, he thought it was getting a bit too dry. Not only that, but he thought her comment was too mean. At least Elliot's actually trying to help, he thought silently with slight disgruntlement. Carrie was just being conceited and spiteful, and it was getting annoying. But she tried to help, or Landon assumed she was, by stating opinions on the ideas. "Getting lost isn't that big of a problem. We could easily make markings on the walls or draw a map as we explore," he stated in response to Carrie's snarky comment. He didn't understand why she couldn't just express her point plainly and civilly. But that didn't stop him from agreeing with her on her next point. "But what you said about opening the book...I was actually thinking the same thing you were," he told her with a small smile, trying to ignore the comment about him being a walking brain. Just because he was in Ravenclaw? Seriously? He forcefully pushed the thought away, focusing on the situation at hand. "Opening the book could be a good idea, but the consequences might outweigh it. We could be transported somewhere else, or be turned into a strange animal, or be eaten alive by a manticore. Or nothing could happen at all. This being magic we've never seen before, it could have outcomes we've never imagined. I still think we should try though." Landon couldn't help it. His curiosity was burning, and once he was curious about something he wouldn't be satisfied until it was quelled. He knew that there could be a possibility that nothing would happen, but he wouldn't know until he tried. He took a small step closer to the book, eyeing it. He glanced back at the other three, both seeking permission to open it and getting someone to open it for him. Curious as he was, he just didn't have the courage to open it. He was more of a passive observer, not an active doer.

elliot ;; two

Postby daz » Sat Jan 09, 2016 6:23 pm

elliot
elliot mauve . slytherin . qudditch seeker . tag{s};; all
─────────────────────────────────

elliot felt an intense desire to yawn, perhaps return to the position he'd been in before this mess. he could sleep, permitting the others the pleasure of doing all the work on their own. all of their pointless chatting was getting a bit old; it was like they were talking themselves in circles, unable to decide which of their ideas would be the most effective. naturally, they all seemed to be placing their bets on landon's thoughts. no surprise there, he was the ravenclaw of the group. if anyone could come up with a reasonable plan, it just had to be him. elliot's ideas were obviously inferior, what else would they be? being a slytherin, gaining respect would be a bit more of a challenge. he disliked that, of course. el enjoyed feeling like he was on top of the totem pole, although it never quite worked out that way.

he had to refrain from looking startled when aubrey agreed with his idea, however he did manage a short smile in her direction. perhaps this wasn't a worthless cause, and he would be listened to? that would certainly be a miracle, and he wouldn't be opposed. his chocolate brown gaze flitted back in landon's direction, who, once again, took the lead. elliot didn't mind the fact that the ravenclaw was pitching in with his knowledge. it wasn't much of an annoyance, the boy was merely trying to help. he actually found himself rolling his eyes at his own behavior, mildly ashamed he was sporadically accusing these people of "overstaying" their time. they were all in this together, and would have to make it out in the same way.

"personally, i don't mind too much what we do, or when we do it. all i want is to get out of here, or... wherever here even is." elliot snapped in carrie's direction, fuming a tad. once again, did everyone just automatically perceive that all slytherins were complete idiots? although opening the book didn't sound like such a horrific plan, walking around couldn't hurt either. "also, this place is very familiar. i mean, we have at least the slightest upper hand of knowing our location. we're still in the library, still in hogwarts, so that much hasn't changed. getting around won't be like exploring a maze."

he felt he made a decent argument, but it had already been decided that they'd open the book first. his eyes traced it carefully, a bit uneasy. it was true, none of them had any idea what to expect of it. things could backfire completely, work in their favor, or give them nothing more than what they already had. he took notice of landon's hesitation, clearly seeing that the ravenclaw didn't have the desire to pry open the novel himself. so, that was his role, then? the doer. well, it was certainly better than doing nothing. at least he wasn't moping about, groaning about his hunger. who cares?

elliot advanced forward a tad, now hovering over the book. it sat innocently on the tabletop, looking like nothing more than what it was: a book. realistically it couldn't hurt him. however, what did he know? considering that there actually were real novels that could attack you, the monster book of monsters being a prime example, how did he know that this one wouldn't do a thing? the most disconcerting part about it had to be the fact that it appeared completely average, like any other novel plucked from these dusty shelves. "right, well, if we're all in agreement, open it we shall," he decided, hesitating before placing his palm on top of the cover. elliot pushed his thumb in between a row of pages, bracing himself before sliding the front over to the side.

The book opened with ease, but this time a different set of words were on the front page:

Congratulations, you have found my book
But do not rest for you have to look
For the place which has the hoard
Of those who have earned their reward

Don't forget to look for the prophecy on the table to your right, but follow my instructions first, or else I can't promise that everyone gets out of this alive...
    --->

Sure enough, lying plainly on an empty table, there was an orb with swirling blue mist in it. Listening closely in the still silence of the room, it was possible to hear a prophecy being recited:

Four students will come to face a choice
Where the earth meets the sky
Friend and enemy; good and evil; life and death
One will choose which one must die
Four students will go where the earth meets the sky

aubrey was glad that they had somewhat agreed on opening the book. it would help shed answers as to what the heck was going on with where they were. aubrey's eyes followed where elliot stepped, watching closely. as elliot touched it, the book fell open. there were words that aubrey had been able to see a little, but the prophecy was what pulled her in the most. She didn't dare make a move, for fear of missing anything. she listened carefully, her face contorting in response to what was being said. the voice spoke, clearly but quietly, with a mysterious undertone. it sounded as if the book had been here for thousands of years, just waiting to be opened. aubrey couldn't help but question the liability. what if they weren't the people who were supposed to open the book? she flicked her glance to the other three. sure, there were four, but what if? aubrey shook the feeling off and tried to process all that had been said. one of them was going to die was the first thing aubrey was able to understand directly. the book didn't say anything really about how the death was going to happen. obviously, the book wanted the kids to be surprised by it - they weren't supposed to try and prevent the death. the worst part was that one of them was going to have to choose who would die. what kind of a prophecy was this? obviously, a very old one. but why? so many unanswered questions swirled around in her mind. aubrey wanted to ask the orb questions. however, in the back of her mind, she knew that most likely wasn't probable. possible, but not probable. and even if she did muster up the courage to ask, the orb would answer with another puzzle. aubrey brushed back some of her short hair behind her ears and looked at landon first, hoping he would shed some light on the situation. but there was only so much a single ravenclaw boy could figure out. aubrey cocked her head to the left slightly, staring at the mysterious orb. she opened her mouth a little bit, just enough to get a few words out. "that's not enough information." she was frustrated, sure, but the anger management could come later. it was true though. how was that supposed to help them? the witch pursed her lips, almost bracing the impact of snarky comments to what she had just stated.

carrie, gryffindor - post three

Postby nnewtscamander » Sun Jan 10, 2016 9:00 am

caroline magnolia joseph - gryffindor - incredibly worried

There are very few things in the world that can frighten Caroline Magnolia Joseph. This is definitely one of them.

She lets her jaw go slack and her brows furrow. She mumbles a bit in shock before taking a deep breath and forming a coherent sentence (again, completely ignoring aubrey. not for any particular reason. mostly due to shock.), It's not fair. Why does someone always have to die in these daft things? Who comes up with prophecies anyway? Why do they get to say who lives and dies? I just... I should shut up. That's exactly what she does. This is less to spare the ears of her companions and more to give her a moment to consider her next thought which was the morbid, this is it. Immediately, she decided that she was probably going to die. This is what her mother was watching out for when she told Carrie to say something nice or nothing at all. It was because someday, when she was sent back in time with three fellow students, she should have remembered and kept her mouth firmly shut. But she didn't. And now, behind a stoic face rivaling those of statues, Carrie is in a state of panic like never before, trying to comprehend how to redeem herself for her previous misdemeanors. Not that she wanted any of the other three to die. In fact, at the moment, she figured if she was the one given the decision, she'd spare her conscience and the lives of her companions. But that was all highly hypothetical. And so was her new theory. But it was better than nothing. So, she speaks again, saying, The roof. Where earth meets the sky. Right? Or the lake. Cause it reflects the sky. I don't know where the place that has the hoard is though. Is there some sort of safe somewhere within the school? Or maybe a hoard of animals? I'm not sure, but wherever it is we should get out of here. We should go. Soon. Let's not postpone it, whatever it is. Right?

elliot
elliot mauve . slytherin . qudditch seeker . tag{s};; all
─────────────────────────────────

elliot didn't know what he had expected from opening the book, but it certainly hadn't been that. a prophecy, of all things, and a particularly unkind one at that. the part that stood out most to him was the mention of death. perhaps, as a slytherin, he should be overjoyed. in fact, he might as well already be haphazardly shouting the killing curse. in order to prevent his own passing, of course. if he could do away with someone right in this moment, it could guarantee his life. however, the idea didn't appeal to him. no, not in the slightest. lucky for the others' concern, he wasn't a killing fanatic. the very idea of doing such made his stomach ache, a mild headache bursting forth alongside it. among them, he doubted he'd be the first to draw his wand in cold blood.

"fascinating," he found himself grumbling, drawing his hand away from the horrid pages. he felt like his fingertips were coated in poison, infecting the book with his physical touch. el knew he hadn't caused the words to appear there, and it hadn't been his idea to open the book, either. he just couldn't shake the feeling that it was his fault, despite it not being so in the slightest. lucky for him, none of the others had such a mindset. they were all more intent on the puzzling message, as well as the suspicious orb that had spoken to them. carrie made a decent observation, attempting to crack the riddle behind the prophecy. although he had disliked her from the beginning, he had to admit that it wasn't a terrible opinion.

"the lake is an interesting thought," elliot replied, glancing over at carrie. he dug deep into his own mind, contemplating the mystery behind the words inscribed into the book. unfortunately, he couldn't crack it. it was too odd; too... meaningless. none of it rang a bell to him.

        >>>Landon blinked and froze as fear came over him. The words of the others passed by him as he stared at those cursed words. Die? No, worse. Murder. At once, his logical mind kicked in, laced with fear. If he were to choose which one should die, who would he choose? He glanced at the three of them. If he were to choose...but no. There was only a 25% chance that he'd be chosen, and a 33.3% chance that he'd be killed. But things like this didn't work solely on statistics, he realised. They worked on favour, which meant that he had to earn the favour of his fellow friends. Maybe in order to get chosen he'd have to get the most clues right. Finding the clue was a tie between him and Carrie, since he threw out the idea but she championed for it. He'd have to buck up. Be more assertive. "This is quare freaky," he muttered, more to himself than to anyone.

Landon willed himself to get a grip. Focus. He turned to his three fellow companions, a stoic look on his face. There was no real point in emotions, anyway. "It's a mighty absurd situation, I think we can all agree. But Carrie's right. We have to get moving. Aubrey, I know this isn't much to work with, but it's all we've got." He took a deep breath in. He never wanted to be the leader, but he had to speak his mind freely to calm down, and if that meant acting as the spokesman for the group then so be it. "I think we should focus on the clue more than the prophecy. Whoever left this here intended for us to follow the clues. So while the lake is a good idea, we shouldn't think about that for now. The vault is an interesting suggestion, but the money owned by Hogwarts is stored in the vault at Gringotts. And I don't think it's the best solution to go that far out into London. That's just the hoard part, though. The reward...that's more precious things, right? So maybe it's one of the storerooms. There are lots of magical objects in there."

overtaken with frustration, she groaned loudly. a reward didn't always mean gold though. so maybe the book meant a physical object, rather than galleons or knuts. landon seemed to be kind of getting at what she thought but aubrey knew he was still thinking about jewels. "I think a magical object is more what we're looking for. A reward doesn't always have to be a jewel, or money. It could just be some normal object that could come in handy for an event later." She said. Aubrey could only hope she was right. But if it was a hoard, then there was alot of it. The Room of Requirement, just maybe. However, Aubrey kept her mouth shut, only because that wasn't something she was confident on yet. Besides, another one of them may come to that conclusion. It would give her more confidence on her idea. She thought about the prophecy more, trying to decide what the heck all of it meant. So it was meant for them, which Aubrey didn't quite get. What was so special about them? Not to be rude, but why? She expected some big event to happen though - something that wasn't natural causes. "The thing that I can't seem to get over is why the book chose us, of all people. Not to be rude or inconsiderate, but it just happened to slip my mind. That makes me worry more than everything else." Aubrey glanced at all of them worriedly, seeking some sort of answer, but internally knew that not one of them had the answer to the question she spoke. But it was worth a try, right? There had to be more than just, a big event. Aubrey thought about the prophecy again, despite Landon's warning. Death, the sky, the heavens.. Those all fit together somehow.
