Daniela had awoken at five a.m. in the morning to get ready for the day. She had unloaded her horses late the night before and it had been hard to leave them. Her heart clenched at the thought of them being alone in a strange place at night where they had no idea what surrounded them outside. But, she had left them to get some sleep before this morning.
The young woman rushed out of her truck to go and check on her beloved horses. She hurried down the isle of the barn until a familiar nicker hit her ears. she smiled as she saw her giant Shire stallion hang his head out of his stall. "Good morning, Cloud," she called to him, stopping in front of his stall to give him a peppermint. She had kept track of each of her horses' favorite treats and his was peppermints. She slowly moved on to the next stall, calling softly to the pretty mare inside. In her hand, Danny held half of a plum without the pit. Her slender Thoroughbred mare nickered a greeting and gently took the fruit from her owner's hand. Danny wiped the juices off her hand onto her breeches and then stroked Faith's nose softly. Finally, she greeted her lovely gelding. The big Percheron greeted her by sticking his head out of his stall and nudging Danny gently. "Hello to you too, big guy," she smiled as she held out a slice of carrot for the flea bitten grey. The gelding was very gentle in taking it, barely even touching his mouth to Danny's palm.
After saying good morning to her horses, Danny headed into the meeting room. Her eyes searched for her old friend who was supposed to be here, but Felipe was not there yet it seemed.
