sofie wakes up, staring at the ceiling. another new day.
hooray. she absolutely hated school, and being one of the people who didn't have many friends, actually didn't have any friends, she was considered a sad little loser. who really cared though? school was just a setback for her. she tumbles out of bed and flops to the ground, stifling a shriek of expectant pain. she bites her lip and peeks down at what caused the rapid hot fiery sensation of pain, blinking away tears at the same time. she didn't like crying, she had always thought that it showed weakness. a bright red thumbnail is stuck in her upper arm. she winces as she tugs it out, stomach rolling. blood is already seeping down her forearm, in a tiny little line. she flings the thumbtack into her trash can and jumps up, running to the restroom. she washes her wound off and slaps a band-aid on, the blood has already penetrated through the first layer of cotton. she took a quick glance at the clock. she was already a little late. she quickly brushes her teeth and gets dressed, throwing on a
random outfit that she had picked out for herself, just for this occasion. she rushed downstairs and slipped on her pair of blue converse, and her backpack, and grabbing the lunchbox that her mother had already set out. she couldn't really wake up early enough to make her own. she grabbed a couple of pieces of toast and two or three slices of bacon, stuffing a napkin into her back pocket. finally, her violin. all set. she opens her front door quickly, locking and closing it behind her with a soft thud.
as sofie power walked to school, she passed by the same old, same old. houses, more houses, a gas station. there was only one thing that had always fascinated her. it was that huge old, dark mansion. the windows seemed to never open, and it was as if nobody ever entered or exited. plus, that place was huge. probably owned by some old, ultra wealthy millionaire. but who would need that much space? and who would never open the shudders and let in sunlight? she wanted to go in, explore. she was almost a hundred percent sure nobody lived there. well, she was already late for school. and she was doing pretty well in every class. she chews the rest of her breakfast slowly, debating against herself. she could fake her mothers signature, they looked extremely alike. and the teachers thought that she was just that shy, quiet girl that had always sat in the back, answering all of their questions, never to cause any trouble. they wouldn't question a thing. yes, she would go in. she creaks the front gate open slowly, wincing at its sound of rust against rust.
as she walked across the front lawn, sticking to the shadowy edges of the place, sofie peers up at the old mansion. it could of been a scare house, for halloween, for all she knew. it was pretty dang creepy looking on the outside. the place needed a mow down, the lawn was like a jungle, literally. this just helped convince her that nobody lived there. she slips over to the front door, and tries the handle. it opens. she slips in quietly and shuts the door, making hardly any sound. as soon as she turns around and looks down a small corridor, it looked pretty clean. maybe there were inhabitants here.
but then why would the front lawn look that what it looks like now? a voice nagged at the back of her head. she nodded a little to herself, a housekeeper of some sort probably clean this place up, like, every month. that was the most logical answer.
