Xeff
-Asari Mercenary-
There were way too many people on this ship for Xeff. Her last job had gone smoothly, and working alongside the turian military hadn't been nearly as bad as she thought it would be. They had stayed out of her way and she had stayed out of theirs. It was easy, there was space. Here, though, on this ship, it seemed like every time she turned around there were new people right behind her. And they were almost all turian. There were one or two batarians on board, other freelancers like herself, but she didn't feel any more kinship with them than she did with the majority. At first, she'd tried to hole up in the cargo hold, thinking no one would be crawling through there, but it turned out to be more heavily trafficked than Xeff had anticipated. Crew members were always coming down there to bring supplies up to the mess hall or the engineering core or the med bay. She didn't stay there long. Next she tried her luck in the shady corners of the CIC, but that too was a little more social than she was comfortable with, at least by this point.
Now, though, she was leaving the med bay, hearing the door sliding closed behind her. She'd acquired a nasty little cut on her forearm during a fight, and even though she tried to keep it clean enough on her own until they docked, the deep purple blood hadn't really stopped flowing; it could very well be infected. So she had finally resigned herself to go to the doctor present on the ship. He'd known more about asari physiology and medical needs than she had expected, and before too long she had been patched up, a fresh bandage wrapped around her arm. She muttered a word of thanks as she left the room. Xeff stopped outside the door, wondering what area of the ship she would find sanctuary in next. She had no idea how close they were to the Citadel, but they'd get there eventually. Thankfully, most of the crew seemed to have jobs taking care of the ship in between deployments, so they didn't bother her too much, but she did get the feeling that when she wasn't looking they whispered behind her back.
She'd met asari before who were immensely uncomfortable with meeting other species, but that was not the case with Xeff. She had never wanted to confine herself to asari space, and as soon as she could she left Ilium, where the asari side of her family was based, but even there she was rarely among her own kind. She should feel at home here among the turians, seeing as she had been raised by one, but this was different. Here, she couldn't just get off of the ship if she didn't get along with someone. No, here she would have to wait, tough it out, as it were. It wasn't always easy to stay on everyone's good side. Especially now. Tensions were running high already. She didn't need to add to it.
Xeff tugged her sleeve over the new bandage on her arm, finally deciding to head towards the Starboard Observation Deck. From what she had seen so far, people didn't usually use that lounge unless the crew was getting together for a game of Skyllian Five. And she could probably find something there to take the edge off, too. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see that there was, in fact, someone there. If her memory served her correctly, he hadn't been on the front lines. A medic, maybe? It looked like he was studying something or other, so she assumed she was right. "Didn't mean to disturb you," she muttered, sidestepping the comfortable leather seats and heading straight for the cabinets. She started shuffling through the bottles, looking for something levo- that wouldn't give her stomach aches for weeks. The choices were surprisingly limited.
