And we've already got some liminal/esque pets that could be NPCs! I think having it be some sort of dream or alternate reality would be cool in the story.

a music festival theme would be cool. pets to represent all sorts of different genres, like pop star pets, metal, punk, country, maybe some rave pets too!

I’m gonna add on to a few suggestions I like as well as my own

Toy event: summer job in a toy shop- best sellers, protypes, tinker toys [maybe a special appearance of a elf of Advent]
Royalty: masquerade ball, maybe pets and bg items that take a nod to the romantic or baroque themes
STEM: like summer camp and the internet event combined. Chemistry and biology create mutant plants that take over the lab
Music festival: there is so much you can do with all the genres
