The Dragon Wars.
In ancient times, before humans first came to be what they are now, was a great war between the dragons. Nobody really knows the cause of the war, but it is said that the dragons were locked in a constant battle for twin gemstones. These magnificent gems were said to each hold half of the power of the Creator within. The dragons became two warring sides, one side devoted to protecting the ancient power that the gemstones held, and the other determined to claim the power for themselves and recreate the world anew once more.
Amongst the chaos of one of the final battles, the gemstones disappeared from both factions' sights. The power had been lost to them both. Each side blamed the other for stealing the gems, but since neither held them; it was unknown who stole those sacred stones. All the dragons went into hiding, till the day when the gems would reappear and the warring would, no doubt, begin anew.
The Arcadian War.
Long after the Dragon Wars, the gemstones resurfaced in the grip of a human warlord. He laid waste to the world as he saw fit, claiming that his 'new world' would be better suited to his liking. The Dragons saw that his only power came from the twin gemstones that the dragons had lost eons ago, and schemed to get them back. The dragons that worshipped the pale moonlight-coloured gemstone spoke of stealing the gems back, and making the warlord's domain crumble beneath him in one night. The dragons that revered the dark amber gemstone offered the chance to destroy him with brute force, crippling his empire and weakening him and forcing him to surrender.
The oldest dragon among them, a she-dragon with scales as pale as the moon spoke then. She favoured both plans and told the two clans a plan that would allow both to do as they wished. The dragons of the pale gem would steal the two gems back whilst the dragons of the amber gem would destroy his kingdom in distraction. However, the ancient one decreed, no innocents were to be harmed that day. It was not their fault that their tyrant lord was bloated with the power the gems held. With the elder's words in mind, the dragons waited for the perfect night to attack. Weeks passed till the day came, when the lord was drunk with victory and ale, the Amber-following dragons attacked. Scorching his lands and destroying his barracks. As the lord could not act in his state of drunkenness, the Silver-following dragons stole the Ancient Twin Gems from the chamber in which they lay. Death and destruction reigned as the Amber-Path dragons laid waste to the human lands, Silver-Path dragons used this as a cover for their escape, to rendezvous with the Elder after the Amber Ones had returned.
With the relics back where they belonged, the dragons went into a slumber, from which many of their kind did not awaken. The Elder cast a spell to protect the runestones from ever being taken again, a curse upon the bloodline of any that touch either of the two stones.
" Thee who dare touch that which doest not belong,
Thy bloodline I doth curse,
To suffer the wrath of those,
Whom's blood hath been shed,
Thee shalt nev'r knoweth the touch,
Of another of thy kind,
For thee wilt becometh as such,
Two halves madeth whole,
Heareth me now, as thee dare,
I cast mine vow, with thee I share,
The Curse of Drakonis,
I cast upon thee.
So thee may not beest free."
The Elder laid a curse on any whom might touch the stones in the dragon's slumber. It is believed that the curse spoke of the bloodline being doomed to take the form of a half dragon monster, whenever they were touched by one of the opposing gender. The curse was heard by all the moment it was whispered, and it has been whispered through the generations as something to truly be feared, lest the dragons awaken once again to destroy all that we humans know. And, once again, the gems vanished from history. No hide, nor hair of the great stones were heard of again. Until the distant future, that is.
Present Day..
Mankind has forgotten all about the dragons, the wars from so long ago and the bloodshed they wrought. A kingdom grew from the ashes of the old one, a better place that mankind all call home. It's considered the birthplace of humanity as we know it. But all is not entirely well in this 'Utopia of Man'. The Ancient Runestones have resurfaced, but they are hidden from most eyes. In the Child-Queen's Diadem lies the pearly magnificence of one gem and within the hilt of her family's heirloom glistens that strong amber gem, radiating nothing but power and energy. So much so, that none have been able to pick it up from it's resting place within the castle.
Rumor has it, that since the Child-Queen took upon the weight of the Diadem, of her title, that she withdrew from her subjects. Whispers and lies tell of her dark heart, of evil or cruel intentions. Some say she has abandoned her subjects, others say her parent's death caused her to hide herself from the world. The truth is unknown, except to a chosen few of course.
The few knights that she can have in her presence know of her cursed state. That her blood is tainted with an ancient spell that no wizard she has ever hired, could ever break. They are varied and colourful in background, the Queen's chosen few, but they are wise for their ages. All young and impetuous, they face a great task should the dragons awaken to find their precious stones within the grasp of another human monarch.

- For those curious, the Amber gemstone is the violent gemstone, the Pearl gemstone is the pacifying gemstone. The sword that is embedded with the Amber gem has great power, but the wielder can become violent, out of control and aggressive. They would need the Pearl gemstone-bearer nearby to remain calm and collected when utilising the gem.
