In the Afi Tribe, life is going well. The prey is running, and though the weather is turning colder, the cats are still high-spirited from summer. Hanale has been a just leader for a few moons, though not everyone thinks that he should be leader. After, all, he's a bit young for so much responsibility...

In the Mauka Tribe, the weather is temperate for this time of year. Some cats think it's an Indian summer; even though it's supposed to be fall, the temperatures are still warm, and the sky is clear. A pregnant snow leopard has just arrived, claiming to be a weary traveler. Everest has taken her in, but some are suspicious that this seemingly harmless snow leopard is more than meets the eye.

In the Nalolo Tribe, everyone is content. A herd of wildebeest are moving through the area, providing everyone in the tribe with more than enough to eat. There are virtually no disputes, though some think the Afi Tribe to the south is getting a little too big for their britches.

In the Leai Tribe, there is a bit of a problem going on. They have no leader, and though Kulani, the commander, is trying his best, there's just not enough of him to go around. Some cats have taken matters into their own paws and are going around, talking to others to see just who can step up and take control. If no one claims power soon, the Tribe will crumble.

Everest kept her wings tucked close as she padded down the stone halls of the castle. All the responsibilities of being the leader of the entire tribe could be overwhelming. She often came to the many halls of the castle to think.

This hall had tapestries hung on the left wall, with windows interspersed on the right. Each tapestry was of a leader of the past; some were snow leopards, others lynxes and bobcats.

Everest flattened her ears as she passed the tapestries. She preached equality to her subjects, when here all the tapestries openly described a time when snow leopards were considered the superior species. A soft growl rumbled in her throat, and she flexed her claws, itching to tear those apart.

Especially Xatar's. Xatar had been a snow leopard ruler some two hundred years in the past. He had been a tyrant, ruling the Mauka Tribe with an iron paw. Xatar had had the notion that snow leopards were indubitably superior to the bobcats and lynxes, and had been determined to make his point known. He had elevated all the snow leopards in the tribe and threw the bobcats and lynxes to the ground. Even now, there were echoes of his terrible reign still ringing in the tribe.

Everest closed her eyes and took a deep breath. I am nothing like him, she reminded herself.

She was startled by a voice directly to her right. "Tapestry-staring again, huh?"

Everest let her fur lie flat. "What is it, Tenri?"

Charcoal hummed softly to himself as he pulled out a pawful of dried leaves from his herb stores. He set them down on the floor of the den and started going through them.

As the healer of the Afi Tribe, his duty was to take care of the sick and injured. Thankfully, summer meant less sickness and more healing herbs to gather.

Charcoal sniffed a withered purple berry, then cocked his head to the side. "Hmm. I'll have to go out and get more juniper berries," he thought aloud.

He continued separating his stores, putting each herb into a pile of its own. After about an hour of work, he had gotten all the fresh herbs put away, while a pile of crumbling and withered plants sat in the middle of his den. Charcoal swept it to the side with one wing, then sat up, ears pricked. He thought he had heard something outside.

Tanger padded along the trail, heading out of camp. After being assigned to patrol the border, he had gotten a bite to eat with his friend Wayaa, then hurried along to his duties.

Now, he was ready to do his best to defend their territory from any invaders. Though, there shouldn't be any invaders. All the tribes were at peace with one another right now, and there hadn't been any battles for quite a few moons now. Even so, he wanted to make sure that it stayed that way.

He almost kicked himself as he realized that he didn't have to walk. Tanger flung his wings wide, then leaped into the air. He beat his wings, trying to gain altitude, and nearly got a face full of leaves. He angled around a jungle cypress, then found an opening in the canopy. Tanger hurled himself through it, tucking his wings in close. Even so, he could feel the brush of the leaves on either side of him.

Tanger let out a whoop of joy as he soared in empty air. Up here there was nothing but the wind and sky.

Khione let out a sigh of relief as she sank down onto the cushions. She blinked gratefully at the lynx who had escorted her in here. "I can't accept this," she said. "This is too nice."

Her room was indeed nice. It was designed for an expecting mother, with low tables and cushions piled on the floor for a sleeping space.

The lynx dipped his head. "Everest is glad to provide you with a space of your own." He turned and left.

Khione lay down on her side and wrapped one wing protectively over her swollen belly. "I'll protect you, little ones."

The white tiger purred as she stretched out on the ground, tail flicking back and forth a few times as her whiskers twitched. Her nose then twitched as she wondered if she needed to go hunting again...Shrugging, she decided to do so just in case, standing up and shaking off. She trotted outside to find some prey, scenting the air.

The Caracal mother purred as she stretched out, knowing the cubs would be born soon. She hoped some cat would be around in case of complications...but hoped there’d be no complications. She continued to purr as she laid out on her side, ears twitching. Her tail flicked and swept gently so.

The black panther sighed as he shook himself, wings folded comfortably to his sides. The sigh had been gentle, and now he shook his head, scolding himself quietly a bit. He hummed a feline sound, glancing around and wondering how much longer they'd be without a leader...He tried his best, but some of his tribe mates just... didn't seem to much like him, or would rather have an actual leader.

The snow leopard stepped towards Everest, his large paws hitting the ground one after another in a calm stride. He had just come from another room of the castle- he had seen Everest from far. He was never one to be too interested in the tapestries. The old kings of the cats were cruel at points, but they were just a part of the old histories. History was something to remember, and couldn't be changed.

"You're always staring at those tapestries. Some cats are getting worried." he said with a flick of his large tail, opening his broad wings to fold them against his side again. "Are you waiting for yours to be finished? I can't blame you if it's that- I would do the same if I was getting my face emboldened on something." He gave Everest a small smile.

Sarai often walked about the tribe's lands, checking on her cats. She hadn't been leader for that long after all- there were still names to memorize and places to go to. Eventually she would finish her work. She oftentimes felt that some cats were a bit...skeptical of her leadership, in the way they looked at her and their voices when they spoke. Sometimes she felt as if she was being paranoid about the whole thing, but she doubted it. Something was wrong. Maybe if she walked about the tribe grounds more often, more felines would get used to her.

Ko'eena stalked around the trees bordering the tribes. Something had been bothering her lately. It was casting over her mood. After being unable to sleep, Ko'eena decided to wander around the lands. She was never more than a stones throw away from home- she couldn't be. She was the healer. Many moons had passed since she had been out into the deep woods.
Ko'eena sat and stared at the distance. Then, almost like an itch, she felt her wings twitch. She shook her head. Its been a long time since she had used her wings- REALLY used them. She flittered here and there but she got a sudden ache for the days of her youth when she would spread her wings and soar.
The twitch in her wings happened again and she could feel it- a tugging. A calling. She shook her head again, this time letting out a small snort of resignition. She knew better than to question her impulses. After all, it was quick thinking and impulse that made her such a good healer.
With that, she backed up and took a running leap off the edge of the rock. Her wings expanded, the white feathers glinting in the sun. It felt good to let go.

Everest smoothed her ruffled fur. “No, it’s not that.” She turned to star up at Xatar’s tapestry.

She sighed. “I just hope I’m nothing like him,” she admitted. “He was such a terrible ruler; I don’t want to do anything to harm any of my Tribe-mates.

Khione suddenly felt restless. Now that she was alone in her room, she found herself wanting something to do besides sit around and chill.

She rose to her paws, then headed out the door. Feeling a kick in her stomach, Khione hurried onward. She should go find a healer to make sure that everything was all right with her cubs. What if something was wrong with them?

Khione headed to one of the landing platforms and took off, spreading her wings as she leaped into the brisk alpine air. Almost immediately she caught sight of another snow leopard flying nearby.

“Hello?” Khione called, soaring toward the other cat. “Are you a healer? I think there’s something wrong with my cubs.”

Ko'eena felt the presence of another cat approaching. She felt annoyed for a moment then a pang of guilt hit her. She is the healer of the tribe, she shouldn't wander off like this.
"Are you a healer?" the other cat said. "I think theres something wrong with my cubs."
Oh no, Ko'eena thought. The snow leopard flying next to her was obviously pregnant. This was the one rumored to be a spy or something. The outsider. Ko'eena had heard the rumors surrounding this cat. She didn't know if she believed them. She knew that it was her duty to help though.
"Yes, I am the healer. Land on the rocks down there and I will help you." She called back to Khione.

Khione swooped downward, angling her wings to make an awkward landing on a boulder a little ways below. She had to dig her claws into the rock to stop herself from overshooting the stone; her large belly unbalanced her.

The healer landed on a boulder next to Khione. "What's the problem?"

"I was heading out when I felt something." Khione pressed one wing against her stomach, then let out a sharp gasp as she felt another kick.

Tenri looked up at the tapestry, taking in its colors and marks that symbolized the old cat. "You would know if you showed signs of being like him. Just the fact that you know how bad he was means that you will never follow in his paws." he meowed, trying to console Everest the best he could.
