Journey Into The Whispering Sea (Open & Accepting)

Postby Consulting_Angel » Sun Sep 18, 2022 8:23 am

Plot

Before you, stands one of the Elders of the Ceta Republic's Convocation of Elders. The head of House Belamont, with a sphere of influence in maritime trade, as well as being well known for its riches and skills in information brokerage. And now, she has approached you, the crew of The Prosperity, to undertake a task for her.
"By now, I'm sure you are aware of the Whispering Sea and the Black Pearl Islands, and how very few that journey there return. It's recently, however, getting to the point that the trade here in Ceta is getting affected, and no doubt is affecting other places."

Of course, The Whispering Sea. A place where foolhardy pirates and sailors attempt to discover the supposed treasures, only to be met with a cold, harsh end as the waters suddenly become rougher, the fog thicker and ships destroyed swiftly. Very few return. No one dares speak of their experience. Within the sea, is an archipelago of small islands, known as the Black Pearl Islands, and are said to each have hidden treasures that more than make up for the extremely high risk of journeying there.

The Elder continues. "Given your recent successes and rising... notority. I have a proposition for you. Find out what is causing the ships to disappear, and why. I only require the information, so that I and the Convocation of Elders can discuss how to proceed. If you do so, you're free to keep whatever treasures you obtain from the Black Pearl Islanda. I shall also gift you several silver pearls, that, as I'm sure you know, will fetch a high price. Additionally, I can have your ship equipped with the latest in steampowered submarine technology, and plenty of supplies to keep you fed and watered."
The proposal is a tempting one... but also incredibly risky. But if the Elder is willing for all that just for some information, then it would be foolish to not accept, right? She'd just make the offer to the next viable crew. Still, the Captain eagerly accepts the offer, and before you know it, The Prosperity is kitted out with a new submarine and more supplies than you're used to it having, and you're setting off towards the Whispering Sea.
Who knows what you'll discover? Who knows who you'll meet? And are the legends of how dangerous it is really true? You're about to find out... so get prepared, sailor!

Yes another roleplay, I have too many ideas.

Roleplay Information

Postby Consulting_Angel » Sun Sep 18, 2022 8:24 am

Setting
Ceta is a Republic, governed by six Houses that are led by Elders, each having their own area of expertise/main control. Finance, Trade, Arts, Medicine, Education and Engineering. This is headed by a Consul, who makes final decisions and takes the most control of politics and the like.
The main city, where all the Elders live, is near to a dock, and has many easy connections. Although, while most of it is lavish and seems pristine, there's a darker underbelly where poorer citizens are forced to reside and struggle, seemingly forgotten by the Council of Elders.

Ceta, and the rest of the world in the roleplay, is a steampunk fantasy setting. Steampowered inventions and creations are the forefront of innovations, and Ceta is considered to be rather advanced. Ceta is also well known for their open markets, where traders and sailors and even pirates can dock to sell and swap their wares and treasures.
However, with the sudden and recent activity occurring in the Whispering Sea - which was already rumoured to be cursed - trading has depleted quite heavily, with ships mysteriously going missing in the area and very few survivors making it out. The treasures that are meant to be hidden on the islands within the Whispering Sea, though, are too tempting for sailors, many of whom are not prepared enough for what they may face.

The Prosperity
The Prosperity is a ship, the crew being the main characters of this roleplay. They have journeyed together since they were about 18, at first just to have fun and go on adventures. Eventually, they each found themselves learning that they had quite a useful, unique skillset that had them take up specific roles within the crew. They also all discovered that they have quite the knack for treasure hunting and being successful in their endeavours, often bringing back plenty of treasures to trade for money, food, on-land housing (if needed) and upgrades to the ship and their own quarters within the ship.

The Prosperity is a large steamboat, though can also be steered manually with the sails and a wheel if needed. It has come a long way from the smaller, wooden ship that the crew first bought. The deck has two raised platforms on the front and back, and a lower 'main' deck. Underneath, there's various rooms, one for each crew member, plus a kitchen, dining room, armoury, treasury, medical room, and a couple of other unused rooms.

You may have up to three characters. There are limited roles, so PM me to reserve if you don't want to risk the role you want to be taken! There are a couple of roles - Stowaways and Survivors/Castaways - that should be discussed with me if you'd like to play one of those roles, so I can give you some information about them, as well as discuss as to how and why your character would have ended up in that situation (and how they'll meet the main crew).

All character forms are to be posted in the discussion thread.

Re: Journey Into The Whispering Sea (Open & Accepting)

Postby Consulting_Angel » Thu Oct 06, 2022 10:40 am

It has been a couple of days since The Prosperity set sail towards the Whispering Sea. They are soon going to finally arrive, but first, as it is the third morning, it is time to get prepared for the day ahead - and breakfast!

Esca Riptide
25|Male|The Captain
Location: Room -> Deck
Tagged: Open
Esca stood at his window, looking out across the sea. He had been awake and dressed for about an hour now, having woken up early today to watch the sun rise from his window. Today was an important day. Today was the day that they'd reach the Whispering Sea and find out the truth behind what lurked there. He was excited. Maybe a little nervous. But he was confident that things would turn out okay - and this adventure was just the sort of thing he craved. By midday, they'd be at the Whispering Sea, so this morning should be spent preparing, he decided. Well, after breakfast, of course, he knew that Gordon won't let anyone miss or skip one of his delicious meals.

Throwing on his long coat over his shoulders, Esca left his room and went up onto the deck. The sea breeze filled his lungs, and he felt at ease immediately. He walked, making his way to the steering wheel, so that The Prosperity could start to get on course while waiting for breakfast to be ready.

Fitzroy Nightingale
23|Male|Stowaway
Location: Kitchen
Tagged: Open
In the couple of days that he'd been aboard The Prosperity, Fitzroy had, so far, avoided getting found. How he'd managed to do so was beyond him, but he was quite proud of himself. It was far too late at this point to turn around and take him back to Ceta. Hiding out in the treasury and the weaponry rooms had been a surprisingly easy thing to do, since it seemed like they were rarely visited during a voyage. The tricky thing had been taking food from the kitchen, especially as the chef seemed to be in there a lot. But he'd managed so far.

That morning, Fitzroy was once again in the kitchen, rummaging around for something to eat. He was quite thankful that The Prosperity had been generously stocked up with food and beverages. Picking up a couple of apples, he was about to leave the kitchen when he heard a sound from outside the door that sounded someone was about to open the door. Fitz froze, then darted to hide towards the back of the room, behind a couple of stacked boxes - though he'd dropped the apples in the process.

Velathraxia Meran||26||Female||Shipwright||Submarine-> Deck||Tagged: Esca
    Meran's mood was finally improving. She'd been in a funk ever since they left port, but A few days of sea air and a fresh engineering project were more than enough to clear the clouds away. The shipwright was deep in the bowels of their new submarine, familiarizing herself with the internals and making sure they hadn't snuck in any unwanted surprises. She'd been there for the installation, of course, but not for the initial build, and she didn't trust anything on her ship that she hadn't personally built.

    As she worked, the Dragonborn allowed her mind to wander, and it unfortunately wandered back to Ceta. Visiting the capital always made her scales itch, and she usually made a point of staying aboard whenever they made port. This time had been especially uncomfortable, as she was forced to come face to face with her grandfather, someone she hadn't seen in nearly fourteen years. It was an awkward family reunion, thankfully cut short by the urgency of their mission. She had never been so glad to she the port fading over the horizon.

    Meran was pulled from her thoughts by the rumbling of her stomach. She hadn't eaten in... huh. How long *had* it been? She hadn't been keeping track. Sealing the panel she'd been working on back up, she made for the exit, taking care not to bash her head. The submarine had been designed with Dragonborn in mind, but all that really meant was that she could walk in it hunched over instead of on all fours. It was still a submarine, after all, space was at a premium. Poking her scaly head out of the entrance hatch, Meran was surprised to see the sun rising. Had she been up all night? She could have sworn it was noon. Ah, well, it wouldn't be her first all-nighter. Hopping up on the deck, she made for the kitchen, giving Esca a nod as she passed him. Breakfast would be happening soon, and she could use it. Also, coffee, before she passed out.

Gordon Rumsey | 25 | Male | Chef | Kitchen | Tags: Fitzroy
Gordon had just finished getting the crew's breakfast orders, and enters the kitchen. He was not happy that food seemed to be misplaced or missing often, and knowing that the crew wouldn't do something like that gave him... suspicions. Either way, he entered the kitchen as usual, and got ready to cook... before he noticed the apples that had been dropped on the ground. "Seriously? Again? I swear, once I find out who's doing this I'll tie them up and throw them overboard! Or..." He had an idea. Since he had gone towards the kitchen and he hadn't seen anyone leave, clearly whoever it was was hiding... somewhere in here. "Alright thief! I know you're in here! We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way. What'll it be?" He waited in anticipation, to listen for the slightest noise or shuffle.

    Octavia Fowler
    27 | Female| First Mate
    Location: Room -> Deck
    - - - - - - - -

    Octavia was aboard the deck at the beak of the ship, dressed and well prepared for the day as she thoughtfully stared at the invisible path they were following; a path that would lead them to the mysterious waters of the Whispering Sea. The feline was never a fan of uncertainties. She clenched her teeth, and took a quick turn towards the front upper deck. She needed to see to it that the crew was ready, today was an important day afterall.

    Hendrick Goblin
    26 | Male | Medic
    Location: Room -> Kitchen
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    Hendrick had spent a good early part of the morning reorganizing the medical room. He was told by Octavia the previous day to clean it up and have a few things prepared in case they ran into any trouble, since today was the day they reached death--eruhm--whispering sea, and he didn't want to get an earful from her again. As tight knitted of a crew they were, there was still a level of professionalism expected. Which only bothered Hendrick if something was expected of him, afterall, he was doing everything perfectly as expected. (At least in his mind) he was now anxiously anticipating breakfast. Judging from the smell, breakfast was coming along just fine and for Hendrick it couldn't come any sooner. His flat feet stomped across the hall to the kitchen door, having absolutely no hesitation of swinging it wide open and taking a step into the room. He saw Gordon in front of him and noticed there was something peculiar about the way he was holding himself, perhaps the silly human dropped the breakfast? Hendrick stared at the ground intently, looking for the possible dropped breakfast.

    Travis Redwood
    21 | Male | Crew Member
    Location: Room -> Dining room
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    Travis had a book out in front of him on the table, as he waited patiently for Gordon to announce the first meal. He was trying to distract himself from today. It had been antagonizing to wait for today, and now that it was upon them, time seemed to grow even slower. He couldn't wait to reach the Whispering Sea and learn of it's mysteries. But right now it was still the morning hours. Breakfast had yet to be served, and the day had already begun. "Oh somebody just knock me out till we get there." He sighed in exasperation, crossing his arms on the open book in front of him.

Esca Riptide
25|Male|The Captain
Location: Deck
Tagged: Meran, Octavia
Esca set the course, and saw Meran walking across the deck. He waved back at her, with a warm smile, though he'd noticed the direction she'd come from - the submarine. Had she been there all night? He hoped she was well-rested, given their scheduled arrival at the Whispering Sea later today, but he trusted her to have ensured everything was working well. Aha - and he spotted Octavia as well! He waved over at her, hoping to catch her attention, and called out a "Good morning!" anyway.

Once The Prosperity began to slowly move again - the steam mechanics allowing it to traverse autonomously, especially when the sea was currently clear like this - Esca stepped back from the wheel. It would soon be time for breakfast, he was sure. Though something twinged in his mind, telling him that something was a little bit off today. He shook the feeling off, figuring it was just because of the whole Whispering Sea thing. After all, the last thing he wanted to do was underestimate whatever was out there, especially if they were to all get out in one piece.

Fitzroy Nightingale
23|Male|Stowaway
Location: Kitchen
Tagged: Gordon, Hendrick
He held his breath as he waited, silently hoping that no one would come into the kitchen. No such luck. The chef had entered, and judging from the tone of his voice (and his words) there was no escape. Fitzroy knew he had two options. He could either reveal himself now, or he could stay and hope that he wouldn't get found out. Did he want to face the wrath of a human chef? Maybe it would be easier to just show himself now - after all, it wasn't as if they could turn around now, and despite what the chef had said, given who he, Fitzroy, was, there was no way he'd be thrown overboard.
With all that in mind, he had no other sensible choice. Fitz let out a sigh, grumble, a swearword, and then said. "Fine. I'm here. Happy now?" he stepped out from behind the boxes he was hiding behind, arms folded and looking quite annoyed that he'd finally been caught out.

Fitz stared down the chef, briefly glancing towards the goblin and looking very much as though he wanted to say something like 'what the heck is THAT?' and just barely resisting doing so. He was tempted to try and cast a teleporting spell, but the last thing he needed was for it to go wrong and end up teleporting himself into the sea instead. Not that there was much use now anyway.
