Trying to push down her fear wasn’t working. This was stupid, she knew it was irrational, but right now it was screaming in the back of her head louder than her actual thoughts. She had to make this quick. “Yes,” she admitted. “I... have been watching you. I’m sorry.” She took a break to take a few deep breaths, her eyes darting to the walls. “I saw you fighting the guards earlier. It was really cool, I’ve never really seen anyone actually defeat them before, even if it was a slim victory. I, um, wanted to offer my assistance? For whatever cause you might be fighting for, I don’t really know. I just know that those guards and the one they work for need to go.” Her fist balled up at the mention of the guards. Hopefully these guys wouldn’t be angry or anything, Jo was tired of being alone.

Alex - Female - Fire/Portals - Tags: Everyone

Alex stepped out of the last room; Vitali’s, her hands looked fairly severely burned. Technically she should have been in there longer, but she just couldn’t take it anymore. She wiped the sweat from her forehead on her sleeve, and slid some gloves on to hide the burns on her hands until she could get them healed. She then made her way downstairs to meet up with the others, only to find them downstairs. She paused a couple steps from the bottom. Her eyes flicking to everyone. Clearly Issac and Jet were on edge, but that wasn’t what caught Alex’s eye. The person they were talking to... or she could guess... that they were accusing, looked absolutely terrified.

She hurried down the last few steps and scowled at her male traveling companions. Jet didn’t see it, but Issac gave his sister a ‘what?!’ Expression. She gently put a gloved hand on Jo’s back, hiding her wince. “heeey heeey.” She said in a gentle monotone. “Why don’t we go sit down?” She guided her to a chair across the ‘lobby’ from Roxy’s. “What’s going on?” She asks gently, crouching in front of her once she was sitting.

Issac blinks in confusion after his sister. Why was she treating this girl she’d never met before like some injured child that needed care the moment she saw her? It was then it clicked, and he ran his hand awkwardly through his hair. The way Alex was treating this girl, she was terrified.

He sighs, leaving Alex to comfort her. Sure she won’t try anything while she’s so scared, and turns to Jet and Ceph. “I’m guessing you both heard what Albert said about Roxy joining us? We-we should tell her.” He sets Obinni down, and the child walks over to check on Alex and Jo, while Issac makes his way over to Roxy. Jet following with silent uncertainty.

“Roxy, yes?” Issac asks. “A-We... would like it if you’d join us. On our journey to the Cypress Kingdom.” He gives a soft reassuring nod. “Albert speaks well of you. And we could use your help.”

“Uh, okay...” Farther from the door, more in the middle of the room now. It’s cool, cool. “I, uh, just wanted to talk about that fight I saw you guys in earlier. I want to help you, or something. I don’t really know- This is a pretty small room, right, like that’s not just me is it?” The screaming was turning to more of a shrieking in her mind as she located all the windows or modes of escape, and watched the door for royal guards.

Alex narrows her eyes a bit, still crouched in front of Jo. Right now she didn’t care about why she was talking with the others. Instead she latched on to the last part of her sentence. “Do you want to go outside?” She asked gently. She took deep regular breaths, hoping for Jo to be able to mimic them.

"Does he." Roxy's eyes were boring holes in the inkeeper's bandanna, but he kept his gaze decidedly on anything else in the room but her. This was his idea, she was sure of it. She wasn't sure if she was more irritated by the fact that he'd done it or the fact that she was going to say yes. He knew she'd say yes if they asked, too. For only having her as an employee for a few months, he was annoyingly good at predicting her. Maybe she was just that easy to read. "Fine," she said, after pretending to think it over for a minute, "but only as far as Cypress. I don't know what it is you all are planning, but leave me out of it. I've got enough people after me as it is." It was a win-win, really. She got a way out of the kingdom, and therefore out of the reach of the Family, and she got to do so in a manner that wouldn't leave her with an annoying lump of guilt in the pit of her stomach afterwards. Once she was there she could get a real job, start making a life for herself.

“Huh? Outside?” Jo asked, glancing back at the door. “Uh, yes, please.” Without waiting for a response, she got up and left through the door. She hadn’t used her ability or anything, but she had still gotten out of there surprisingly quick. Once outside, she took a deep breath, and then another. Her mind slowly quieted until she was just mildly jittery. That was much too long for her taste, and it felt way too easy to be cornered in a place like that.

Alex stood and followed her out, opening the door to the inn and walking over to where Jo was calming herself down. She was curious what had triggered this stranger so much, but decided not to ask. She knew better than to ask. She leaned against the wall near Jo. “There you go. I find breathing helps.” She said, noting her breath evening out. With the relative quiet she couldn’t focus on much else but the pain in her hands. But the only sign of her pain was a tightness in her jaw. Obinni came out a few moments later “I’m really sorry. Was that scary? My daddy can be scary sometimes...” Alex glanced over at her niece. Not sure how Jo would react, or if she would want the attention. But it seems Obinni was more comfortable with Jo than the others had been. Maybe they had talked. Or maybe Obinni was just that soft hearted.

He nods. Noting the glare she gave Albert. He was right though, she had agreed. “That’s fine.” He said calmly. “I’ll have to talk to the rest of our group first, but I’m sure they’ll be ok with it.” He tried a soft friendly smile. Hoping to ease any bitterness towards them she still felt. Jet nodded “yeah! The more the merrier. It’ll be a lot easier to pass through the borderlands with more hands on our side.” He noted, his own smile back, and more genuine. Issac glanced briefly at Ceph to gauge his reaction to this whole idea.

Ceph was watching the creepy lady leave the room with the two girls. For whatever reason she had flipped out. So he had been successful in his endeavor. He craned his neck to see where they had gone. He was only aware the guys wanted his attention when the background noise of their voices went quiet.

He turned around to see Isaac looking at him, as well as the tall lady now in proper view. He gave a double thumbs-up with a glint in his eye.

Roxy cast an appraising glance over the people who were to be her traveling companions. An older man and woman, probably related, and three kids younger than her. The youngest looked related to the adults, the other two weren't. They looked like they'd been on the road for a while. Hopefully they could take care of themselves, but given their earlier encounter she wasn't too optimistic. "Let's get one thing straight," She said, addressing the room at large, "I'm not a babysitter, and I'm not your new best friend. I'll take care of me, you all can take care of you. Do that and we'll get along fine."

Jo looked towards the young girl who had followed them out, taking one last deep breath before smiling, albeit not as wide or genuine as before. “No , no, it wasn’t any of them.” She replied. “I just... Usually try to stay out of buildings when I can help it.” She hoped that would be enough. Jo didn’t know how she would respond if Either of them pried any further. Jo didn’t want to walk down that corridor of thought tonight, not on top of everything else. “Sorry I freaked out a bit, though. I’m probably such an oddball to you folks.”
