Onyx looked gratefully to Brenn and Quinn, their smiles helping their own feel a little more genuine. “Thank you, I-“ the raven-haired recruit quieted down as Jen spoke up, both holding respect to the fire-wielder and also hesitant to share the situation. It was the perfect excuse to withhold it after all, and Onyx had never been in a hurry to express their concerns. They gave a playful smile despite not being in the mood to. “Duty calls, and it’s nothing serious.” They waved the issue off. A bit of their words rang true, after all- a trivial relationship problem was little in the grand scheme of things, even with their reputation as the Phoenix Squad.
Onyx listened intently as Jennifer, Arys, and Gav spoke up about a general layout, which Quinn interjected into a little bit. The acrobat was a little confused as to what had happened to spur the aggressive comments between their friend and someone Onyx could describe as an ally on the field. Because of their lack of information they didn’t feel as though they had reason to butt in, however they did have a lot of practice in diverting attention.
“I’d like to be the one to cuff Alastair.” Onyx spoke up seriously. Passion flickered in their eyes, something a little different from when they had made the request at the beginning. For the first time in a while their face did not have its signature easy-going softness, and as they voiced their bold wish a glance was sent Keelan’s way. The recruit had grown a little insecure about the lasting comment and meant to do this job- with or without the ability they might have had. “So long as his attention isn’t entirely placed on me, I know I can do it. And I’ll trust the rest of you on team Beta to fix it... if something happens to me.”
This sent a violet glance to Brenn with a new look of sympathy. Onyx hated phrasing it that way especially after all that had happened to their close friend on the last mission, but it had slipped out without their consideration of the words. Plus it was correct- even if one of them fell, the rebellion would have to go on. Their focus moved back to not the two that had dominated the small meeting, Jen and Quinn, but to Gavotte, as Onyx nodded. “I am fine taking on a position alone in the trees so long as the area behind me is covered in the case the prince tries anything and escapes my initial ambush.” They assure, trying to mentally hype themself up before they all took action.
