On the inside, I was smiling like an idiot. I was so glad my friend and I had some form of communication, because I had arrived to the conclusion that he was a mute of sorts.
On the outside, all I managed was a sharp exhale. "Good job, Yersinia," I muttered.
Wait.
Did I just call him a friend?

He giggled slightly like a happy child, and covered his mouth while scooting back from the name
And stared at it while setting the charcoal down gently, and covered his mouth
He didn't mean to sound so innocent.. So ignorant
It wasn't his fault he couldn't remember how to speak
Yet remember how to spell
He looked up at Finnegan slightly and tilted his head, as if to inquire about his name
Then held out the charcoal bit to him, as if to see if he would actually reach out and take it, considering that it had already been plagued with disease by Pestis himself

"Are you hungry at all? Thirsty?" He asked and lifted his chin, not exactly ready to raise a pet dog in the wasteland
It was easy to take care of his doves, but a dog?
