"Thanks, dude!" Ardai beamed at Quinn's comment that the rainbow-colored sneakers matched his personality. To be compared to shoes so colorful was one of the highest compliments the flamboyant Fivanian could receive.
Bright orange eyes widened in surprise as Quinn correctly guessed his thoughts.
"Oh wow, you are telepathic!" Of course the smart guy got all the cool brain powers.
The commander finally set her bag down, indicating it was time to change. Ardai was about to dive in and grab his swim trunks when Quinn reminded him of his injury. Orange eyes dulled to a more normal-looking hazel color as he backed away, deciding swimming wouldn't be that fun without his best friend.
"Maybe next mission. The water smells like salt and it's nasty," Ardai claimed, making up a random cheap excuse.
"If it gets in my mouth, it'll be just like a saltwater gargle!"Sycamore Jin

"Thanks, Aida. That actually makes sense!" Sycamore had to give credit for Aida's concise explanation, even if the concept of swimming for fun remained extraordinary. Seemed like it would be more fun for humans with their smooth, featherless skin, no thick plumage to become waterlogged and weigh them down. Now that Sycamore herself had shaved all her feathers off, maybe she, too, could swim without sinking.
Diana then approached them, offering what amounted to swimming lessons. Perfect timing.
"Hibaby!" Sycamore gave her old friend a quick hug in greeting.
"Would you teach me to swim please? I might be out of my element, but I want to at least try." She glanced towards the bag of 'swimming suits', skimpy garments made out of an unknown bouncy material. At least their size meant they wouldn't be weighing anybody down.

Gavotte smiled, not surprised that Jen would choose her father's native district. She had the heart of a true Ninon huntress, wild and untamable. All she had to worry about was being
too good. The Niners chose their leader by virtue of whose hunting talents topped all others, so there existed a very real possibility that they'd start calling Jen their Alpha. Gavotte had no doubt her abilities reached that caliber.
When Jen mentioned she would not be swimming, Gavotte took a moment. Sapphire eyes fell on the beautiful waters that called to him, then returned to the fiery archer by his side. In the end, his adoration for one won over another.
"Swimming can wait. I can practice my waterbending from right here anyway," He decided with a smile.
Gavotte reached out and tugged at the waters, concentrating intensely. He was able to call forward a snakelike stream of water, smaller than the waves he'd pulled from the river two weeks ago. Gav brought the water forward and danced it in the air around himself and his friends.
"It feels heavier - must be the salt dissolved in the water."Something then occurred to him. Maybe the environment would affect others' powers too, not just his own.
"Jen, is your fire more powerful now that you're in the sun?"Alastair Brungard

No longer alone, Alastair acknowledged Aisling's approach with a soft smile, but remained silent so she could enjoy the ocean's music in peace. Only when she spoke did the Prince face her directly, sage-green eyes lightening from concern to hope. Aisling's word choice did not escape his notice; she spoke of the future in optimistic terms, most remarkably using the word 'when' and not 'if' in reference to the rebellion's future successes.
This small and simple detail was not to be overlooked, and Alastair's respect for her grew further. Great strength and hope lay within her spirit, shining bright as a beacon in this world overcast by the Emperor's shadow.
"I agree completely." His voice was gentle yet firm in conviction. It was his duty, his
purpose to protect this world and the diversity of life within. To neglect the environment would be an atrocity in itself.
When Aisling mentioned returning to these shores with him, Alastair's eyes softened in both expression and hue. His peculiar Fivanian trait seemed a liability so often before, forcing him to consciously neutralize his eye color to avoid betraying his inner feelings. Now, with no need to hide his emotions, his green gaze took on a gentler pastel tone, melting away the piercing iciness his eyes often held.
"I... would love to. Thank you."Almost too soon, it was time for Aisling to join the other greeters. The role was well-suited for a young lady of exceptional compassion. Alastair bade her farewell with a smile, certain she would flourish in this fitting task.
Once she had gone, the Prince returned his gaze to the ocean, envisioning the future Aisling's words painted. A world free of violence and oppression, a life of peace and harmony alongside his people. Was this attainable in the reality beyond his wishful daydreams?
