Ella worked quickly and deftly until she could finally finish off the bandages in a tight knot. She was practiced enough that she barely needed to look at what she was doing, able to keep a wary eye on the situation at hand as she worked. Her eyes had slid over the scars on Quinn’s back that hadn’t been hidden, scars hadn’t been particularly uncommon in the rebels she’d treated before and she was focused on the task at hand. At his response to her gentle but logical words the area between Ella’s eyebrows wrinkled in concern. He seemed shocked by her concern for his well-being, despite the fact it had once been her duty to care for the injured and was still her calling. “You don’t owe me any favours, the duty you’ve performed here is a favour to the whole of Delra… and it’s letting me come home.” She softened her voice a little for the last few words. It was possible that at this point Alastair had realised what she really was, but she didn’t want to make it completely obvious. ”It’s just Ella though, there’s no need to call me princess anymore.”
When Quinn began to keel forward Ella’s arms shot out to steady him but he seemed to catch himself before she needed to. He seemed to be feeling the effects of the blood loss now, if not the pain itself, and Ella was concerned and impatient to get him somewhere safe. Pressing her lips together she watched as Quinn covered the bandages with his hoody before beginning to speak. It would be harder to keep an eye out and make sure the wound wasn’t bleeding through their bandages that way but no doubt it would be more comfortable for him. The dismissive, confident words he followed up with weren’t the most believable, but Ella couldn’t argue with the underlying logic.
“Proper treatment would be easier in the warmth of the train as long as everyone injured at least has some sort of bandaging.” The wound on her own jaw was still bleeding and her hands and dress were decorated with spots of Quinn’s blood. As she continued, worry was obvious in her voice. “We don’t look particularly inconspicuous though.”
She was glad to see Onyx approach and offer support to their friend, they would know Quinn better than she did and so would be able to help in ways she couldn’t. A faint smile appeared on her face when they thanked her.
”Better than ever now you lot are here.” Again her voice was soft as she spoke. She truly didn’t want to offend the Prince but it was true that she was glad to be going home again. “I only wish I could do more to help.”
She truly was cursing her implant at this point, she’d always imagined that if not for its insertion at birth she’d have some sort of healing abilities, like Cujo. In fact, she could remember when the younger medic had first began helping out in the hospital ward and how jealous she had been.

Brenn was grateful to see another of their squad quickly take down the guard he’d hit in the shoulder. Then, following Onyx’s eyes, he turned to watch the duel going on between the Commander of the guard and Prince Alastair. Impressively Aisling appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, and stopped a guard from sneaking up and disturbing the duel and quickly enough Wayne was unconscious on the ground.
Now they were seemingly safe Brenn smiled gratefully as Onyx collected all the thrown blades for him. His smile quavered slightly, however, at his best friend’s seemingly light words.
“Good thing my mum always used to tell me off for relying solely on my ice, huh?” He accepted the blades, but his breath caught in his throat slightly at the sight of the blood coating them. “But maybe it’s not such a good thing after all.”
The guilt at the ease with which he sent knives into other human beings was beginning to strengthen now so Brenn was grateful for the invitation to join Onyx in checking on Quinn. He followed them as they weaved past their other teammates, his mood at least cheered slightly by Onyx’s sudden beam before moving off. Onyx’s teasing voice was familiar and Brenn smiled warmly at Quinn as Onyx ducked under his arm.
“You definitely look like really cool bros.”
