Hawthorne looked over a her, feeling a bit guilty. " You're not unbearable to look at." He said, not realizing that he accidently complemented her in a strange way. Hawthorne stood up, " It's.. not you." He said quietly, " Honestly." The captain sighed, rubbing his face exasperatedly" Look, I'm sorry. What do you expect me to do? Quell and Howlers have always been enemies. I've lost many good men to Howlers." Chuckling dryly, he said, " It's a little strange to be sitting here talking to a mix. Just understand one thing. I don't hate you for being a mix, okay? "

Arkady shifted back into her human form. "I didn't kill your soldiers." Many people tended to judge one person based off of what their kind has done, even if that person had nothing to do with it. She always got bombarded with accusations that she was a wild-animal from the few Quell who knew she was a mix. Every-time they would try to turn her in, she would just move to a new spot in Solodin. "Let's just drop it." Getting in an argument wouldn't help her getting out of there, and honestly she didn't want to fight Hawthorne when it came down to it. She wasn't scared of him, she just knew that it would be difficult to take him down if it was even possible in her physical condition. Arkady wanted to build herself back up, fill out the places where her bones jutted out. Though she hated to admit it to herself, she was weak at the moment.

" I know" He said, his blunt manner returning quickly. Hawthorne gave a small nod. He didn't want to fight with Arkady. In fact, he was trying his best to be nice to her. Hawthorne absentmindedly checked his watch, seeing that it was getting late. " Excuse me, I need to go." He gave a soft sigh, scooping up the fancy tray. " See you later, Arkady" Hawthorne unlocked the door to the cell and walked out. He gave her one last look before he locked the cell back.

Once Hawthorne was gone, Arkady stood up and walked over to the cot. She hesitated before laying down on it. She shifted from side to side, trying to get comfortable. Arkady was so use to sleeping on the pavement surrounded by the other outcasts that it was difficult to rest easily. She sat up and looked out the barred window, seeing the sun beginning to set. Her heart hurt and she laid back down. It would get dark soon, and she would be alone…again. Arkady breathed in deeply and closed her eyes. She felt as though she was trapped in the cell, as if the walls were closing in and were going to crush her. She opened her eyes and quickly stood up. Arkady paced around the room, always returning to that window before walking away again.

Hawthorne was gone for a couple hours. He had a few royal duties to do, most of which involved drilling his soldiers and filling out paper work. Hawthorne was in his office, at the top floor of the Tower. He sat at his desk with his head in his hands. As Captain of the Royal guard, the safety of the city fell squarely on his shoulders. Worries about the city filled his mind, but something else was bothering him-Arkady. Thoughts about her and their conversation earlier drove him nearly mad. As the red and gold colors of the sunset filled the room, Hawthorne rubbed his eyes tiredly. The book from before lay on his desk. He had wrestled all day with what to do about Arkady' s crimes. Hawthorne picked up the book, flipping through the pages aimlessly. Suddenly, he tossed it back on the desk with a loud thump. He knew what he had to do to clear his mind and put his heart at ease. Hawthorne walked back into the cell room, heading straight to Arkady's cell. " Arkady? "

Arkady came to a stop once she heard Hawthorne calling her name. His footsteps became louder as he got closer to her cell. She breathed in and rubbed her eyes before walking to the door. Arkady leaned her head against it, the coolness of the metal helping her calm down somewhat. "Yeah?" Her voice echoed around her cell and her figure was a shadow against the wall as the sun came level with her window. She wondered how they created an artificial sun or if it was infact the real one from up above. Must be some type of magic. Arkady lifted her head up, not wanting to be leaning against it right when he opened the door. She needed to get out of that cell.

" Come on, we're getting you out of here "Hawthorne said as he unlocked the door. He didn't explain further. Oddly, he wasn't wearing his armor and uniform. Hawthorne wore a plain black shirt and camel colored pants, with his sword on his hip and dark blue wraps on his hands. He had been training earlier and hadn't changed. The short sleeves shirt revealed that he had a tattoo on his right arm. Hawthorne stood away from the door, letting her come through, "You can go home, but I'd like to offer you a place to stay at the palace. " He said, unsure if she even had a real home to go to

Arkady looked up at Hawthorne as she exited the cell. She searched his expression, trying to see if his offer was genuine and true. "How is this even possible?" She hadn't expected to leave the cell so soon. Arkady though was grateful, because she had just been on the verge of having a break down. She would not be trapped again. "And what's in it for you if I stay at the palace?" The palace was somewhere she hadn't even thought of stepping foot in. Arkady didn't know if this was a test to see whether she would try and steal from them again. "I had tried to hit you with the book I stole and all you've been is nice."

" Don't worry about it. I'll take care of everything, alright? " Hawthorne said. He cracked a rare smile, " One of the loop holes in Quell government is that if you have friends in high places, you can bend the rules a little." The captain said, more than a little cynically. It was clear that he didn't approve of it, but he was still "bending" the rules by helping Arkady out. Hawthorne looked completely genuine as he offered to let her stay in the palace. Hawthorne shook his head, " There's nothing in it for me. You're more than welcome at the palace. " He rubbed the back of his neck, a bit hesitant, " I'm not really sure why, I only wanted to help you out" The soldier blushed faintly, but seemed completely honest.

Arkady hesitated before nodding. "Okay... I'll stay in the palace." Her heart was beating to fast, as if she had just run a marathon. "Thank you." And she truly meant it. Going back to the outskirts of town had left a hollow feeling in her chest. The last thing she wanted was to return to there. "Will I get to leave when I would like? Or am I confined to the palace's walls?" Akrady wondered what her role in the palace would be. Whether it was a worker or something else, she didn't know.
