chapter two
FIVANA FIASCO
-----Today's visit to the District of Gold is no ordinary field trip. This is the Phoenix Squad's first-ever mission as fully-fledged rebels, as an united team. It is their trial by fire... or rather, by fireworks. The bustling streets of central Fivana are waiting.-----Getting to Fivana was a long and arduous ordeal. It began with a trek through the dank tunnels branching out from Headquarters, unlit save for the flashlight in Commander Atlanta's hands. At least the dim light meant nobody would have to look at her
outfit. Her dress was a neon rainbow of frills, accented by an enormous peacock tail accessory at the back. She looked like a huge mother bird herding her equally colorful chicks.
-----When the long corridor finally ended, Atlanta packed the flashlight in her extravagant purse before leading the way the ladder. The exit of the tunnels was disguised in a densely wooded area, and once everyone was out, the commander made sure to kick dirt and pine needles over the manhole cover. She led them to the nearby hiking trail, which they followed until they neared the city of Goldstone.
-----At that point, she instructed them to behave loudly and obnoxiously, already posing as Fivanian tourists finishing up their field trip. They swaggered through the quaint little town as Atlanta raved about a parade happening tonight, sounding eager to get home to Fivana. The residents of the dusty Severin town generally kept their heads down and went about their own business, not caring to be bothered by some annoying tourists.
-----They arrived at the old station just as the telltale trail of smoke approached in the distance. Atlanta strutted up to the counter, heels clacking on the aged wood of the platform.
"Fifteen tickets to Five, for me and the kids!" She demanded, slamming down a wad of money held together with a colorful scrunchie. Minutes later, she came away with a handful of one-way tickets. The guy hadn't even asked whether it was round trip. She was too obvious - good. Fivanians were the most obvious people in the world.
-----She handed out the tickets to her students, or children, whatever people thought these teenagers were. Then, in true loud Fivanian fashion, she rushed onto the train while loudly gesturing for the others to follow.
-----It wasn't a crowded ride, so the rebels ended up in their own train car. Others probably noticed the distinctive obnoxious noise and appearance of Fivanian adolescents, and decided not to sit nearby. Even better. Once the doors closed and there was no longer a risk of others boarding, the Phoenix Squad could relax the ridiculous act, only resuming it for the stops along the way when the door opened. It had the welcome effect of scaring off new passengers from boarding in this car.
-----Outside the window, snow-covered pines and abandoned mines gradually gave way to frosted-over grass and the lights of distant buildings. City after city flew by, skyscrapers towering in the distance, alight with brilliant colors. Not long after, the train pulled into Hesenia, Fivana - the very heart of the District of Gold.
-----The grand station was nothing like the creaking wooden platform back in Severin. Inside, stained-glass chandeliers gleamed against a towering ceiling, which amplified the noise of the milling crowd. Atlanta stopped the Phoenix Squad in front of a row of deserted waiting benches (Fivanians preferred to be on their feet), and began the 'debriefing'.
-----"Alright, kiddos! Here's where the party is at!" She exclaimed, her voice seeming to have risen an octave. This was the best way to do a 'Fivanian impression' in her opinion.
-----The commander held up a flyer with four photos and a map in the center. It was disguised as a poorly designed party advertisement, but the Phoenix Squad would know better.
-----The first photo was a blonde, skinny man sporting a face of freckles. His name was Leroy Dunmore, and the caption underneath read:
"No need to RSVP, ladies! Meet at the parade on Corazon Street for a chance to dance with yours truly!" It clearly advertised he was arrogant and would be easily found in the literal heart of the city.
-----The second was a hideous redhead with what appeared to be a perpetual smirk: James Taylor.
"Cocktails at 7:00 PM at Midas Tower, if you can afford it." That hinted at his obsession with wealth, and that trading tower full of businesspeople would be an ideal place to look.
-----Next was a dark brunette with watery green eyes, Keith Marshall.
"Free drinks @ Knifepoint Alley," read the sketchy caption.
-----Finally came an auburn-haired guy named Drew Stone, whose caption said
"Want to get away from the parades and parties? Come to the Sanctuary from 7-9 PM to relax and unwind."-----The map was the circled location of each traitor. Leroy was in the very center, Corazon Street. James' tower would be a few streets down west, with Keith's creepy ally several blocks south from both locations. Drew was in the northeast, and his circle was significantly larger than his cohorts'. It wrapped around the entire perimeter of an enormous park labelled 'THE SANCTUARY'.
-----"Now, you're responsible adults and can make your own choices!" Atlanta was still doing the voice.
"You each decide which party to go to, and we'll all meet at the Sanctuary at 10. The gig there should be over by then. Remember, no drinking, no graffiti, and no stealing balloons! I'm serious!"████【♟】████Lanette LaneFemale ♟ Pansexual ♟ Pacifism
Tags: Everyone -----When Lanette saw 'Knifepoint Alley', she laughed out loud as obnoxiously as possible. She was already dressed up like a Fivanian gangster. This sketchy, creepy alley was calling to her, pretty much begging for her to come and arrest the traitor who lurked within.
-----"I'm gonna get free drinks, punks!" She was trying so hard to act like a mobster. All her squadmates could tell this was the opposite of her nature, but the little brunette was determined to pull it off.
"Who's with me?"████【♫】████Gavotte LaneMale ♫ Heterosexual ♫ Hydrokinesis
Tags: Jen -----Gavotte was animated but silent throughout the debriefing, making exaggerated 'thinking' gestures to compensate for his lack of talking. When Atlanta was finished, he turned to Jen while pointing to Drew Stone - the traitor hiding out in the Sanctuary.
-----"That's the guy. These others are lame, I'm going to his party." Gavotte put on his best imitation of a sneer, hoping he was doing this 'arrogant' thing okay. If not, he prayed someone would correct him.

Tags: Everyone -----Ardai didn't even need to put on an act. For once, he had the freedom to be himself, his annoying and idiotic self, without having to worry about consequences. He laid across one of the benches in that 'Paint me like one of your Forell girls' pose, and just lounged as he looked over the 'parties.'
-----"Welp, I'm the most beautiful lady here. I'm gonna go dance with my Leroy!" He announced, blowing a kiss towards the picture. Honestly? Catching the traitor was minor to him compared to the fun they'd have on Corazon Street. He'd heard tales about the massive parades, and wanted to crash one.

Tags: caleb help me -----Sonata vowed that Fivana would be where she overcame her shyness. The loudest and happiest province was bound to help her feel more comfortable around people. She was always so afraid of being embarrassed, but Fivanians had no concept of that. They put a positive spin on everything.
-----Still, she stuck close to Caleb - she'd made a pinky promise to protect him after all. A few of her squadmates were already picking places, but nobody was heading to Midas Tower yet. It sounded like a rich place with luxurious chairs and expensive drinks... and she wanted to visit there.
-----"Midas Tower? I'll buy you a drink!" Sonata blurted out to Caleb, and realized a second later she had no money. She would have to ask the commander for some... but for once she wasn't embarrassed. It was this place and the shameless people in it. There was something refreshing about this.
