long ago, there were three leaders of three clans nestled in a beautiful valley. they were siblings, and founded their clans after much arguing over territories and family rivalries. one was named sloestar, leader of mountainclan. the second was branchstar, leader of elmclan. the final cat was named bramblestar, leader of streamclan. they were riddled with chaos, from famine to plagues to war to floods, they had given up hope of survival. their populations were diminishing rapidly with each wave of destruction, alliances were folding left and right. each clan was becoming more and more hopeless and weary, praying for some kind of answer to save them from what they thought was their fate: annihilation. the three siblings had been advised by starclan to stay united, but turned their backs on their ancestors, unleashing the chaos that came.

it wasn't long before their followers began rebelling against each of them, as their leaders had become obsessed with power and vengeance. they cared more about saving themselves and their glory than the cats they'd sworn to lead and care for. secret alliances between the clans began to form, meeting in the center of the valley, which was unclaimed and neutral territory. they met in a thicket of rose bushes each half moon, and established their own group, vowing to starclan to wage one last war in order to unite the three clans. their leader was a warrior named yewmeadow, the deputy of elmclan. there were very few against this plan, and the majority were ultimately won over in favor of avoiding more curses from starclan.

they planned out their last and final battle, most of which was quite easy. each clan brought forward secrets about their leaders, advantages that could help win. branchstar was suffering from serious mental health issues, making him delirious and delusional. sloestar broke one of his legs in battle, which made him unable to run well or fight properly. bramblestar was pregnant, making her an easy opponent. the plan was to take out branchstar and sloestar, showing mercy to bramblestar, but giving her the option to join the new clan and be demoted or face exile from the valley.

on the final half-moon meeting in the thicket, the battle was carried out. the cats were split into three groups, one going to elmclan, one going to mountainclan, and a smaller group going to streamclan. the group heading to streamclan waited until the other two had won their battles to march into the camp and demand bramblestar's surrender. the fights were nasty and lives were lost, but starclan ceased their punishment onto the clans.

yewmeadow became yewstar, the first leader of roseclan. starclan was finally happy with the cats, and awarded them by giving their medicine cats the location of the starpool, a sacred pool of water in a cavern on the mountainside, and giving yewstar and all of the future leaders of roseclan nine lives instead of one. bramblestar, unfortunately, refused to surrender and was exiled over the mountains. no one knew what came of her and her kits, and she has become nothing but a legend over the generations and a tale used to scare kits into behaving. but what is to come when a mysterious group of cats show up in the valley, begging roseclan for help?

just past the top of the mountain she scaled, bramblestar surprisingly survived and gave birth to her kits. she had five, miraculously, and four lived on to create what became brambleclan after their mother told them stories of the way she grew up. she died after her kits managed to gather up rogues and kittypets from a nearby twoleg town and gather numbers. unfortunately for the fate of brambleclan, starclan was disappointed in the fact that they never acknowledged their existence. bramblestar never taught them of their true lineage or fate, only lies about the "ruthless group of murderers" on the other side of the mountain pass.

brambleclan met the same fate as the three clans before them, destruction and chaos. wildfires, lightning storms, plagues, and famine. the only survivors of the last tragedy, a horrid plague that wiped out almost the entire clan, only got away because they were sent on a quest by their leader to recruit more followers into brambleclan. upon their return, everyone was dead, and they left in order to try and find a way to survive. one of them, an apprentice, was given a vision from starclan in her sleep. as soon as she woke, she told the other survivors that they needed to go over the mountain, where they would find sanctuary.
