S k y P a c k

SkyPack members frequently rival cats in terms of agility, despite being dogs, which makes them powerful and yet distinctly elegant animals. They use this agility to, not only jump frightening distances to catch prey or pounce enemies, but even to climb trees (albeit to a limited degree), a prized skill in the Pack. The other four groups may call them strange, but their athleticism is only beneficial; beyond great physical strength being useful, the ability to hunt above the ground grants SkyPack dogs food that their jeering neighbors are less equipped to compete for. They are also naturally extremely resilient, able to traverse very tough terrain with ease and withstand pain or injuries to a nearly unmatched level. Though excitable and devoted by nature, SkyPack also has a bit of an arrogant streak and doesn't do especially well with others.

Ideal Breeds: SkyPack dogs are an interesting and unique bunch, proficient in acrobatics and traveling rough ground. Gravitate towards the herding and working classes, especially breeds that excel in agility training or do well on irregular terrain.

xxxxxxSkypack's alpha was seated on one of the old oak's branches, keeping careful watch over her pack's territory. The sky was slowly but surely lighting up, rosy and lavender colored clouds speckling the expanse overhead. It wouldn't be long before the sun would peek over the horizon but Blizzardstar decided to stay on watch for just a little longer. She needed some time to herself in order to think her situation through.
xxxxxxNewleaf was supposed to be the bearer of better times but, as much as the alusky didn't want to admit it, things were looking awfully stagnant lately that season. There were no new warriors and the lack of a medicine dog apprentice made the prospect of getting ill downright terrifying. Blizzardstar'd been on guarding duty overnight so that her deputy - Nightfire - could catch a break. The she-dog let out a frustrated huff - Skypack's surely seen worse times but its current state wasn't looking too good. Measures had to be taken and every dog had to give their best for the sake of their packmates.
xxxxxxThe alusky carefully rose up on four paws as the first sunrays of the day finally made their way through the forest's thick canopy of leaves. A contraction of her hind legs, a thrust - and Blizzardstar jumped off the branch she was seated on just moments ago, only a cloud of dust and a thud indicating her swift descent. She couldn't help but feel a tinge of nostalgia - her first jump off the centuries-old tree wasn't as graceful. The alpha let out brief chuckle as the memory of her small body rolling off in the mud in defeat overran her train of thought. Oh, how she missed those careless days... and something else.
xxxxxxThe she-dog shook her head - now was no time to get stuck in the past. And off she went into her den so she could rest for a little while. She had an idea or two on her mind regarding the challenges Skypack had to face but a clear state of mind was necessary if she were to discuss them with her pack.

She returned to SkyPack camp - was it technically a camp? - with a thin squirrel in her long jaws, slight annoyance visible on her reserved features. Although squirrels were a favorite among her Pack, they were growing increasingly rare in the sparse region that served as her Pack's current "home" and this one hardly qualified as a morsel, more bone than meat, and it was the only one that she had managed to find all day. She let the thin scrap fall to the diminishing fresh-kill pile before she turned to see Blizzardstar retreating to her den. Nightfire wouldn't hold it against her; Blizzardstar was half-starved and exhausted, and that was probably worsened by her compulsive decision to take up a whole watch session by herself. Instead, Nightfire offered a brief flick of her ear in greeting and silently took her place as a guard. She padded to one of the scrawny trees nearby and leaped gracefully to its lowest branch, then climbed her way up to its highest one with her powerful, lithe forelegs. Upon reaching it, she rose to her full height to give herself the best view of the clearing and kept watch for anything suspicious. Nightfire had never really liked sentry duty, given that it tended to be uneventful and she always liked to be occupied, but she would do it both for her Pack and with the knowledge that it was an important task.

The young cream haired she-dog was hunting alone, only managed to catch a rabbit, which was better than nothing. She took her prey into the camp's fresh-kill pile looking over to the packs alpha and beta talking there with each other. After their leaving their old territory behind, the pack was not being the same any longer, it felt like the dogs were more unhappy and stressed now.

For a while, she stood in her tree post, searching diligently for threats to her shrinking Pack. She heard shuffling beneath her and swiftly investigated, but, to her mild relief, it was only Creambloom. She gave her a relatively quiet alerting bark, to let her know that she was approaching, before she made her graceful descent down the branches and onto the ground beside the young warrior. "I know that you just came back from a hunt, but I need you to go on patrol," she said solemnly. "And I'd also appreciate it if you'd try to find Lupinpaw while you're checking. I haven't seen him all day, and I've already been hunting."

She sighed as the beta come to give her some tasks to do, she was not so happy to go for a patrol, especially when it was so waste of time to her and for Lupinpaw, she had no idea where the apprentice could even be, who knows maybe he left the whole pack. She gave a light flick on her tail and turned away "fine, I am going then" she said to her, not really even looking for Lupinpaw, it was Nightfire's job as his mentor to know what the young dog was doing.

Sensing the attitude and annoyance in the warrior's tone, she merely retorted stoically, "If you'd rather stand watch, then do so, and I can patrol again. It matters little to me which I do. Just pick one." It was rather irritating that Creambloom thought it appropriate to, not only argue with her beta, but do so when she was aware that the Pack was facing difficult times. She was most certainly not the only dog being overworked. However, Nightfire wanted to get back to a task more than she wanted to argue with her, easily. She immediately started to return to her post when Creambloom turned away.

She turned to look at her beta "I will do this patrol as I don't really have anything better to do anyway, but for Lupinpaw? I have no idea where he could be at the moment, but I will keep my eyes open if he show up at somewhere" she said to her.

Nightfire glanced over her shoulder at Creambloom, nodding at her in acknowledgement, and murmured, "Thank you." She then silently took up watch again, huffing quietly to herself. Although having a job to do did take some of the edge off for her, she hated not knowing where Lupinpaw was. It always worried her when a younger dog was potentially in danger. However, she didn't want to be selfish; she needed to help the Pack beyond just searching for its young because she was unnecessarily fussing over them.
