W i n d P a c k

Although others might claim that sleeping anywhere but in a cozy den beneath a thick roof of trees is undesirable, WindPack dogs can't imagine life being any other way; their ideal home is, and always has been, under a sky of stars within a field unscarred by a single tree. They intensely value openness, and this has led to them developing a closer connection to their StarPack ancestors than other Packs have because they sleep with them over their heads. WindPack dogs are passionate creatures that cannot stand to be controlled, feeling a constant need to run. Unsurprisingly, they are easily the fastest runners in the forest and make for efficient high-speed hunters. Despite their strengths, the sheer passion of a WindPack dog ensures that internal quarreling about the necessity of their factions - the standard moor runners and the more specialized underground-hunters, the tunnelers - is common and fierce.

Ideal Breeds: WindPack dogs pride themselves on speed and a connection to their surroundings, and are thus preferred to be fast runners with an affinity for open landscapes. Gravitate towards the hound class, especially sighthounds.

She followed after her beta dutifully, stopping every now and then to check especially odd scents. Her tail shot up in an eager wag as she caught something particularly interesting. "Hey! I think I found a deer trail!" she called to her companions, inspecting the scent again afterwards just to confirm. Deer was a favorite among the Packs, but, typically, only WindPack dogs were fast enough to effectively hunt them, so this would be exciting news - it wasn't often that these potentially dangerous but tasty prey items strolled into the moors, after all. She sat by the spot where she had caught the scent so that she wouldn't lose track of it while she awaited their input.

Berrybounce bounded after Copperskip and Cloudtuft in a hurry. She kept her ears erect, listening for anything unusual until Cloudtuft had spoken up. "A deer is a pretty interesting find! Hopefully, we can catch it!" She said, licking her chops. She sniffed around where Cloudtuft was. "Smells like a deer trail to me." Berrybounce looked toward Copperskip to see what they should do. A nice deer would feed the whole pack with maybe some leftovers. Nonetheless, it would be an interesting hunt.

Song whipped her head around to face the wind, feeling her fur smack against her cheeks. She inhaled, deeply, trying to find the scent of prey. There wasn't anythi- Oh, wait! Yes there was! She inhaled again, wagging her tail slightly in excitement. Hare. She began to travel towards the scent, slowly at first, then faster as she became more confident. Soon Song was running at a quick jog, feeling the grass brushing her stomach. She hunched her shoulders, so she could be lower to the ground, and quickened her pace. She tilted her ears forwards, listening. It had stopped eating, and she could hear it's heart speeding up a bit. It sensed her. She was barely five yards away when it bolted. It's little claws uprooted several plants as it sped across the moorland. Song broke into a full sprint, her fur whipping out behind her, and the grass smacking into her legs. Faster, faster... the Hare was slowly pulling away, but is she kept up with it, Song knew it would be an easy catch. Hares were all speed, no stamina, so she just... had... to keep... running... Soon, the Hare began to slow, seeing this, Song put on one last burst of speed, and grabbed it by the spine. Panting heavily, yet smiling, she licked the blood off her muzzle. Time to bring her catch back to the pack. She ran at a complete sprint, using up all of her stored energy. It felt good.
When she arrived at camp, Song dropped the rabbit on the prey-pile. She could hear her fellow packmates somewhere in camp, probably near the waterhole. Well, she was thirsty, so the tired she-dog jogged over to get a drink of water. Song could see a packmate in front of her. She let out a little woof to let the dog know she was there.

"Did you finally come back with prey?!" Whiteleg demanded. "I hope you caught a few things, you were gone for such a long time. If you only caught one thing I wouldn't know why." Whiteleg dipped her head again, and drank some more.

Song blinked, then smiled a bit. She always had kinda liked Whiteleg, because of how forward and no-nonsense she was. She liked that she didn't try hiding her opinion, and said what she thought. "Heh, well, I caught a hare a little ways south of here." Song lapped up a bit of water, then finished off what she was going to say. "He was fast, but also, pretty fat. Munched on too much grass." She smiled. "Well, if no one else wants him, I certainly won't turn him down. He'll make a nice, fine, square meal." Song finished drinking water, then relaxed in the grass across from Whiteleg. She knew she should get more prey soon. Whiteleg was right. But she had needed that drink... it was such a hot day.

Whiteleg picked up her head, as Songbreeze sat down, finally realizing what she was going to say after the last statement. The words that Songbreeze said, left a sour taste on her tongue, and she suddenly had the urge to nip someone. Of course she always had this urge about her, but this urge was stronger. She didn't feel like snapping though, like she had earlier to Stagstar. He deserved it though. No, she felt like she had to go about this a different way, but hopefully the same outcome. "Why are you laying down, if you only caught one measly rabbit!" Her voice started off soft, and sweet, but soon became bitter, as she finally grasped what was happening. She thrust her paw to the water's edge, sending a shower of cold droplets in the direction of Songbreeze. Whiteleg wasn't focused on getting Sonbreeze wet, just on letting all of her anger out on the water. She still had more though.

Song squinted her eyes to prevent water from going inside them. She actually thought for a second. Why am I laying here, in the hot sun, ignoring the advice of an elder, when I should be helping hunt? It was, indeed, a very good question. And, if she didn't even have an answer, let alone an amazing excuse to disobey the warrior code, why do it? So, with a grunt, Song stood back up, and gave Whiteleg a sly grin. "Ha, well, I guess I should get up, shouldn't I? Any particular prey you want?" she joked. "How about a Red Grouse? They should be pretty tender this time of year. Ptarmigan? Or perhaps I can see if I can find a sheep... any opinions?" Song teased, despite knowing that Whiteleg was already irritated, and that this probably wasn't going to improve the mood.

She shot Berrybounce a warm smile, pleased with her enthusiasm. She cocked a curious ear. "I thought that tunnelers preferred hunting underground, though. You really want to hunt with us?" The young moor runner didn't really have an issue with hunting with her, but she remained inquisitive. She looked over at Copperskip for a moment, awaiting his input on the discovery, before looking over at Berrybounce again.
