Though the Clan may live in the forest, the nearby marsh is the Clan's namesake. Through flood and fire, MarshClan has survived and thrived in their home for many seasons. Swimming is an important skill as the marsh is prone to flooding the surrounding area in times of heavy prolonged rain.

Do you have what it takes to live in MarshClan?

=================================================

~[RULES]~

  • Forms go on the discussion thread! One per post.
  • OR PM me (Lunarsnow) your form. If you post it in the RP thread it might not get seen and you might not be accepted!!! However, I'll ask you to post it in the discussion thread after I approve it so it's best to cut this step out unless you want to be sure you'll be accepted ^^

  • Follow all CS rules
  • Remember: Just because you know something, doesn't mean your character does too!
  • Use some kind of brackets or parenthesis when talking out of character though try to limit ooc posts on this thread
  • Keep "who's open/I'm open" posts to the discussion thread as well as pretty much anything except clarification
  • You can have as many cats as you can keep active
  • If your cat is important (leader, deputy, medicine cat, mentors, etc) please try to be fairly active
  • Please do not join if you will not have time to be moderately active (moderately active = once a week)
  • Do not be your own mate/crush/mentor
  • No motherless kits unless the kit is four to six moons old - if they're younger they need some sort of foster mother
  • Killing another person's character requires permission either through PM or the discussion thread
  • I will send you a PM if you have not posted in over 15 days
  • Do not use man-made materials in your cat's name (ex. no Rubberclaw or Metalfang)
  • Realistic fur and eye colors please

~[GUIDELINES]~
It would be great if these get followed too, but I won't be as strict on them.

  • Try to keep genders fairly even - if there's 14 she-cats and 8 toms, then make a tom etc.
  • If you ask for a recap please post along with it the last thing you remember happening. It makes it easier to fill you in.
  • If you see someone being excluded, try to interact with them! But also don't expect people to always come to you; you have to make an effort for your character to be included. This is more than just posting that you're open. Write your character doing something or going up to another character

=================================================

~[Form]~
That or post forms on the discussion thread! One per post. They get lost if you post them in the RP thread because it moves fast sometimes.

Territory & Weather

Postby Lunarsnow » Sun Mar 29, 2015 8:06 am

~[Weather]~
The weather for most of the year is quite hot and humid. The cold weather really doesn't come into full swing until near the end of leaf-fall. Snow is a rare oddity.

~[Territory]~
Forest
The forest has both a heavily wooded and lightly wooded area to it. The thicker forest is where the camp is located. There are a few wooden paths that run through the territory and the twolegs seem to stick to them for the most part. The nearest twoleg nests are a few hours away by paw. There is a spacious clearing not too far from camp where most mentors take their apprentices to battle train. A fallen log lays on the edge of it and is a good place to sit and observe.

The thinner forest is mostly made up of pine trees. It's a spacious area but hard to navigate because of the tall grass - though a good spot to train apprentices to track by scent and sound instead of sight.

Camp
Camp is surrounded by thick bushes. The nursery is inside of a large bush with thorns weaved into the outside and the inner branches were broken off leaving a cozy, hollow inside. The leader's den is in the roots of a tree and they speak to the Clan from the branches. The medicine cat's den is dug out under some rocks. The dirt and shade keep it cool even in the hottest moons. The elder's den is located right next to the medicine cat's den, under the same rocks, though the two dens are not connected. The warrior's den is dug into another tree. The inside is quite roomy and the roots make up the ceiling. The apprentices have a similar set up as the warriors do, without the tree.
A short ways outside of the camp there is a small cave entrance used for whenever the forest floods. The entrance tunnel slopes down a ways before taking a sharp turn back up to the actual cave - this keeps the inner cave from flooding except in extreme cases. Kits, pregnant queens, and elders take priority as they are the most likely to have trouble swimming.

A view from the marsh towards the forest
Marsh
A wooden path runs from the forest into the watery marsh to the south. It's good for cats who don't want to get muddy, well, as long as there are no two-legs around. There is barely any solid ground in the marsh to stand on so it's not much of a popular place for the Clan to hunt in. Apprentices like daring each other to chase the herons and egrets that frequent the area. It usually ends in soaking wet, muddy pelts and maybe a feather or two. If one can actually find a solid place to stand, fish can be caught sometimes as well as crabs or crawfish (but watch those claws!).

StarClan Meeting Place - The Starpools
The entrance to the Starpools is located in a cave a few foxlengths outside of the edge of the territory. Inside, the ground slopes deep into the earth before forking in two directions. One leads even deeper into the earth and an underground lake, the other slopes back upward, but doesn't break back out onto the surface. The higher path leads to the Starpools. It is a spacious area with glowing strands hanging from the ceiling. Water drips down from the surface into pools on the ground that reflect the lights making the ground look like it has pockets of the night sky.

Prey and Local Wildlife

Postby Lunarsnow » Sun Mar 29, 2015 8:09 am

FOREST
Twolegs are occasionally found on small wooden paths in the forest. Rarely they go off the path and can be seen hunting things like deer. Because of the threat of hawks, kits aren't allowed out of the nursery unless other cats are in camp. At night smaller cats should be wary of great horned owls. Bird of prey attacks aren't too common but a desperate hawk or owl could kill a cat or carry a kit/small apprentice off.

Common

Uncommon

Rare

MARSH
Twolegs can be found in the deepest parts of the marsh on strange floating monsters. The cats don't normally venture out that far as there are large rivers of water cutting through the muddy grasses. If you were to keep heading south you would hit a lake.

Common

Fighting Moves & Other Canon References

Postby Lunarsnow » Sun Mar 29, 2015 8:10 am

~[Warrior Code]~

  • Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.
  • Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.
  • Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.
  • Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
  • A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
  • Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
  • A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
  • The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires or is exiled.
  • After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
  • A Gathering of all Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.
  • Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
  • No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.
  • The word of the Clan Leader is the warrior code.
  • An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his/her battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.
  • A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.

~[Fighting]~

  • Back Kick - Explosive surprise move to catch opponent from behind. Judge opponent's distance from you carefully, then lash out with your back legs, taking all weight on your front paws.
  • Belly Rake - A fight-stopper. Slice with unsheathed claws against the soft flesh of the opponent's belly. If you're pinned down, the belly rake quickly puts you back into control.
  • Front Paw Blow - Frontal attack. Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent's head. Claws sheathed.
  • Front Paw Strike/Forepaw Slash - Frontal attack. Slice downward with your front paw at the face or body of your opponent.
  • Killing Bite - A death blow to the back of the neck. Quick and silent and sometimes considered dishonorable. Used only as a last resort.
  • Leap-and-hold - Ideal for a small cat facing a larger opponent. Spring onto opponent's back and grip with unsheathed claws. Now you are beyond the range of the opponent's paws and in position to inflict severe body wounds. A group of apprentices can defeat a large and dangerous warrior in this way. Watch for the drop-and-roll counter move, and try to jump free before you get squashed.
  • Partner Fighting - Warriors who have trained and fought together will often fall instinctively into a defensive position, each protecting each other's back while fending off an opponent on either side. Slashing, clawing, and leaping together, battle pairs can be a whirlwind of danger for attackers.
  • Play Dead - Effective in a tight situation, such as when you are pinned. Stop struggling and go limp. When your opponent relaxes his/her grip, thinking you are defeated, push yourself up explosively. This will throw off an unwary opponent and put you in attacking position.
  • Scruff Shake - Secure a strong teeth grip in the scruff of your opponents neck; then shake violently until he or she is too rattled to fight back. Most effective against rats, who are small enough to throw. A strong throw will stun or kill them.
  • Tail Yank - Grab your opponent's tail and yank it with such force your opponent is thrown off balance.
  • Teeth Grip - Target your opponent's extremities- the legs, tail, scruff or ears- and sink in your teeth and hold. This move is similar to the leap-and-hold except your claws remain free to fight.
  • Upright Lock - Final, crushing move on already weakened opponent. Rear up on back legs and bring weight down on opponent. If opponent does the same, wrestle and flip him under you. This makes you vulnerable to the belly rake, so it takes great strength and speed.
  • Half-Turn Belly Rake - Turn onto your side, slip under the opponent's belly, rake it with your claws, then swiftly turn back onto all fours out from under your opponent.
  • Duck and Twist - Simple defensive move. The cat ducks then twists around, rolling over onto his/her back, and then springs to their paws.
  • Jump and pin - Complicated move. Leap backwards, and bounce off the wall. With precise accuracy, land on the cat.

~[Hunting]~

  • Mice and voles - Drop into a crouch and take all your weight into your haunches so that your paws have no impact on the forest floor. They will feel the vibrations in the ground before they see or hear you. Pounce and when you are close enough kill it with one swift bite to the neck.
  • Squirrels - Speed is the key for squirrels, you may start out slow but you must strike quickly or they will scamper into trees. They can be pursued into the branches, but it much more difficult and you have more chance on being injured.
  • Rabbits - A rabbit will smell you before it sees you so approach it with the wind blowing in your direction. If you are fast enough, simply chasing the rabbit and catching up to it will work, but for slower cats, you must stalk slowly and very, very quietly. Pounce as soon as your close enough and kill it with one swift bite to the neck.
  • Birds - They can be hunted in short bursts of stalking to get close. If you aren't close enough, during the final leap the bird could fly away easily. Even if you stalk them close enough, be ready for a leap to hook your kill. Larger birds can be a challenge even if they aren't birds of prey.
  • Fish - Fishing takes patience, sit by the side of a river or stream and make sure you shadow doesn't cast itself into the water. Wait until a fish is close enough and plunge your paw into the water and scoop out the fish. Make sure to kill it quickly, fish can still jump back into the water.
  • Frogs - These things are tricky to catch, not only to they leap, they live in marshy areas. A big jump into the frog will do the trick, but you might have to chase it if that doesn't work.
  • Birds of Prey - One cat cannot take down a hawk or larger owl easily - especially if the bird attacked first. It's best to leave them alone but if killing it is necessary then a group of three cats should give you the upper hand. Go after the wings and try to get on it's back, away from the talons.

EVERYTHING

Postby Lunarsnow » Sun Mar 29, 2015 8:12 am

Silvertail met with the queens and was asked for fresh moss for their nests. She asked Emberpaw to go and he brought Snowpaw with him. As, Emberpaw and Snowpaw came back from fetching fresh bedding for the nursery, they stumbled on Daisy (a kittypet) and Jinx (a loner) on the territory. After a spat and telling them to get off the territory, they parted ways and Daisy and Jinx ended up joining MarshClan. Daisy is now Bluepaw and Jinx is now Hawkpaw (their apprenticeship is temporary as they are both old enough to be warriors). They seemed to love each other.

Ravensong got into an arguement with Bluepaw during the ceremony about her attitude and the fact she was still wearing a collar. Ravensong stalked off once it was over and had a discussion with Rainstar about letting the newcomers into the clan.

Hawkpaw's brother Cliff (a loner) came across the clan and asked to join because he wanted to keep an eye on his brother and was distrustful of Bluepaw.

Thornclaw asked for his younger half-sister Drift to join the clan. Rainstar agreed but the exchange was interrupted by fighting in the camp. Bluepaw had attacked Ravensong after the warrior's remark of asking "what was wrong with the clan" in reference of letting all the new cats in. The fight quickly turned serious and Ravensong was badly injured.

Bluepaw, seemingly having a change of heart tried to help heal Ravensong but was blocked by various members of the clan and scolded by Rainstar. Her punishment was to be confined in the empty elder's den on constant watch until Ravensong recovered and be exiled if Ravensong died. Bluepaw ran back to Ravensong and continued to try and treat her wounds.

Squirrelpaw and Cliffpaw ran off to get Minty (Cliffpaw and Hawkpaw's sister) to help show Hawkpaw that Bluepaw was a bad cat. They came back and had a brief fight which ended up in Bluepaw eating deathberries. Shocked, Squirrelpaw ran off followed by Cliffpaw and exclaimed that it wasn't fair that she decided to kill herself. Bluepaw ran after them and apologized for her actions. Then Squirrelpaw's mother appeared to them and revealed that Bluepaw was her sister. Then Bluepaw was healed by the StarClan cat and given a second chance. After more talking the three apprentices went back to camp.

The rest of the evening was mostly uneventful. Clanmates reflected on the day and fell asleep. Creampaw had eaten some crowfood and gotten sick.

The next day started off alright. Soon, Squirrelpaw asked to switch mentors from Fawnstep to Venomfang. Unbeknownst to both Rainstar and Squirrelpaw, Fawnstep and Venomfang were currently fighting near the edge of the territory. Well, not so much fighting as Fawnstep attacking and Venomfang dodging. Fawnstep yelled at him saying that she wanted him to hurt her so he obliged, slamming her into a rock and leaving her there in the mud.

Fawnstep's father Finn came across her and carried her back to camp. Fawnstep was treated for a concussion and Rainstar told her about her dad. She got angry since her father had abandoned her and her mother and brother when she was a kit.

Squirrelpaw went out to train with Venomfang, and it quickly turned violent. She clawed up his belly pretty badly when he had her pinned and he threw her against a tree. Venomfang crawled off to lay in a bush somewhere, but Bluefeather who was out scented the blood and found him.

Cherrymoon gave birth to three healthy kits - Airkit, Goldkit, and Hollowkit.

The following two moons after the kit's birth were relatively peaceful and uneventful. Ravensong's injuries were healed perfectly and she got back to her duties quickly and was even promoted deputy! Fawnstep and Venomfang's injuries also healed withot complications. Mildtail officially welcomed Bluefeather as a medicine cat of MarshClan with a trip to the Starpools and her true name.

Those two moons also brought quite a few new warriors to the ranks of MarshClan. Hawkpaw and Cliffpaw quickly became full warriors; Hawkflight and Cliffstrike. Most recently of the newest additions were Squirrelheart, Dawnsong, and Skysong.

Three loners by the name of Tobee, Dawn, and Pip are stayed on the territory, deciding whether or not clan life was for them. Rainstar full endorsed their stay and made everyone aware the three were welcome. The next day, Mousewhisker, Oakwing, and Creampelt became warriors and Hawkflight found a lone kit; Spots who joined as Spottedkit.

As the days went by, Hawkflight and Cliffstrike ultimately decided that they weren't cut out for clan life despite encouragement from Rainstar. Bluefeather and Squirrelheart escorted them to the city after they said their goodbyes. While they were gone, Whitemuzzle was attacked by a rogue near the border and was blinded in one eye. The skirmish made her realized her age and she decided to retire as an elder. Tobee and Dawn decided against staying and joining the clan.

Two new additions to the clan were Mistpaw and Stormshade, former kittypets named Bali and Lei.
Gatorfoot, Whitemuzzle, and Spottedkit found two rogues lurking near camp. One ran off and the other, Blood, had been taken into camp. Bluefeather recognized Blood and revealed him as her son. His name was changed to Coalkit and he was welcomed into the clan. However, both Mildtail and Rainstar warned that she could not take care of her kit if she was to stay a medicine cat apprentice. She decided to give up her position and raise her son instead. Coalkit, angered that his mother was made to choose, ran off into the forest and Orchardkit followed. The two kits were attacked by rogues but managed to escape back to camp. Or so they thought. One of the rogues had followed the kits back to camp and confronted Rainstar. She demanded the clan's kits so her group could grow in numbers. After a brief brawl against Rainstar and Bluefeather, the rogue left.

At Rainstar's request Fogpelt, Fawnstep, and Sparrowclaw went to patrol the western border - the side that the rogues lived on. Instead of finding rogues, they caught scent of a badger and heard the yowl of Whitemuzzle who had been on a walk by herself. The badger wounded the elder terribly and managed to injure Fawnstep as well before trying to escape as another patrol came to the rescue. Sparrowclaw and Fogpelt ran after the escaping badger to finish it off. Whitemuzzle died of her injuries before they had a chance to treat her. Fogpelt and Sparrowclaw also came across the previous deputy's dead, covered in the stench of badger. Though they killed the badger, they have yet to break the news to Rainstar.

Character Adoption

Postby Lunarsnow » Sun Mar 29, 2015 8:14 am

These cats have lost their RPer. These usually already have forms completely filled out for them. Would you want to use them?
  • None right now

A queen needs someone to play her kits! The kits could already have names and descriptions. Do you want one?
  • -- can make up a description --
  • Rosekit - Lunareye's younger sibling; in the same litter as Bearkit and Bumblekit - post on the discussion thread to ask
