Sunnypaw woke up to yelling, his golden eyes blinking rapidly as his mind registered the panic that hung in the air. his mind was still foggy with sleep, but the smell of metallic blood hung in the air, and he scrambled up. as he looked around, he noticed a small crowd surrounding a certain nest. Applepaw he thought as he stumbled over to them, blinking rapidly. "What happened? whats going on?" he whispered, gazing at the still body of his clanmate. while it was true that he had never been close to applepaw, he had never wanted this to happen.

Mistfeather woke up to the screaming of her apprentice, Silverpaw, and the wailing of numerous other cats. She bolted out of her den, knowing that something terrible had happened. Mistfeather saw that all of the apprentices were out of their den and that the den was surrounded by other cats, so she made her way there first. When she got to the entrance, she saw the still body of Applepaw. “Oh, great Starclan...” her voice tailed off. Just then, she heard the distressed calls of Silverpaw and made her way over to her. Mistfeather spike in soothing tones to Silverpaw. “It’s alright, he hunts among the stars now.” She just hoped that her apprentice would be able to recover from such a shock. She knew that they’d been very close friends before... Before this happened.

Just as Ripplefrost was about to pounce on that water vole a few tail lengths away, some loud mournful yowls jerked her awake. Her ice-blue eyes flew wide open with surprise, and she immediately jumped to her paws, wondering what was going on. She looked around the den still pretty full with her sleeping denmates before heading towards the entrance of the warriors den. "Guys, get up!" she hissed urgently before emerging out into the Riverclan camp. Ripplefrost scanned the clearing and raced towards the apprentice den when she saw a gathering of cats there. "What's happened?" the silver tabby she-cat called out as she reached her clanmates, searching for her apprentice Applepaw.

Silverpaw slowly nodded, no matter what she did, it wouldn’t reverse this. The molly sighed, she didn’t think the life of any cat should be taken that way... just like a piece of prey... she glanced up at her mentor. “ Yes, he does hunt with starclan... but... why?” the last word was barely a whisper.

FireFeather woke up as RippleFrost tried to rouse the camp. Was he due for a dawn patrol? As he slowly got to his paws, he tasted the air, only picking up the smell of fear. He couldn’t hear the sounds of battle outside- perhaps there was a fox or badger scented nearby? With a sigh, he left the den. Foxes and badgers would make for a bad day surely.
He quickened his pace leaving the den and meeting up with the group waiting in the clearing. He followed not far behind RippleFrost, straining to hear the answer to her question.

Mistfeather sighed. She didn’t know how to explain to Silverpaw why Applepaw had been killed, nor did she really know herself. “I don’t know, Silverpaw,” she said softly. “If we did know, then we’d be one step closer to finding the killer and punishing them accordingly. Then Applepaw wouldn’t have died for nothing, for his death would have caused the exile of a cat who does not deserve to be in this clan.”

Lightningheart’s fur bristled in shock.
Who could have done this? She couldn’t fathom why any cat would murder.
Grief for this young apprentice tore at her heart.
“We- we have to bury him,” she choked.
