She moved over to sit next to him, raising her own right paw. Unsheathing her claws, she struck the moss in a slightly flicking downwards motion, scoring the moss deeply but missing the roots. A clump of moss fell away and landed softly by her other forepaw as she placed the right paw down. "The trick is to stretch out your claws as far as they will go and swipe with a flick. This will take practice, but once you master it, there will be no roots."

Foxpaw watched Duststorm, noting her movements with her claws. Nodding, he looked at her, "Okay," He said, flewing his claws out untill it hurt, and swiped delicatly, but getting lots of roots out, "Aww, oops," He said as it landed heavily on the ground with a thud.

She watched his efforts patiently; he was a new apprentice, after all, and she couldn't expect him to be perfect straight away.
"Well done." She praised, before showing him the motions again. "Try again." She glanced up at the sky at the dark clouds; it shouldn't rain too soon.

Foxpaw watched Duststorm again and nodded, More gently He noted in his mind. "Okay," He said smoothly, and tried once more, and this time only one or two roots showed up in the moss. "Better?" He asked.

She looked at the moss and then back at her apprentice, nodding. "Much better. But you still need work." She informed him, swishing her tail behind her. "Again." His claws would be aching after she was finished and satisfied, but he need a good night's sleep for his first night in the apprentice den; it would take away some of the pangs of grief. Sometime's she-cats would sleep with their kits on their first night as apprentices, but Duststorm disapproved of this; it was good for mothers and kits to have a strong bond, but once kits became apprentices, they needed to become dependent on themselves.

Foxpaw sighed, but nodded, trying once more. This time he clawed gently and got a heafty amount of moss. He let it gently drop at his paws, and looked at his mentor, Duststorm, expectantly. He wasn't near mastering it, but if her took long enough, he would get it right.

Her eyes lit up. "Well done! That's the quickest I've seen an apprentice get near-perfect moss!" She purred, and flicked her tail tip. It had been very near perfect, and she was sure he could get there. "Keep trying, and I'm sure you'll have it master-" She broke off as a large drop of rain landed on her nose. Frowning, she rolled her moss and Foxpaw's moss together and tucked it into a ball before picking it up. "Come on, quickly."

Foxpaw purred from his mentor's praise, and looked at the moss, "Thank you," He said, seeing a drop of rain hit Duststorm's nose. Scowling, he nodded, and picked up the rolled up moss, and said between his mouthfull of moss, "I'll run ahead to put my share on the nursery since I got the ones that are mostly root covered," He said, running back to camp as thunder rolled and a flash of lightning hit a tree, yowling in fear, he ran faster running into camp.

She was about to run after him when the lightning flashed; she saw it out of the corner of her turquoise eyes. Some of the moss fell out of her jaws before she regained her composure and gathered it up again, rushing after her apprentice with her splotched tail streaming out behind her. As she rain, the rain got heavier and colder. I need to warn Spiderstar; a fire could start!

Foxpaw kept running, seeming like it was forever untill he saw camp on the small up hillish spot, he ran past a huge oak, and lightning hit it at the exact moment, crushing his paw and tail. He dropped his moss and let out a peircing yowl, hopeing that it would reach camp, or at least Duststorm. Pain surged through his small frail body as he let out another peircing yowl. "Someone help me!" He yowled again, becoming desprate, and scared, the thunder was only getting louder and louder. What was going to happen?

{OOh fire! And sorry, I kind of wanted his tail to get crushed, like Brightheart, and the kit who got his tail got cut off by the fox trap.}
