Razorheart gave Raggedpaw and annoyed look. "It's not 'dumb'. It's important. And it's ReedClan's special talent- these are techniques, strategies, devised by ReedClan cats themselves. But, if you don't care about being a true ReedClan warrior..." He added the last part carelessly, too carelessly, and pretended to be distracted. "...I suppose we could go back to stuff that every loner, rogue, and kittypet can do."

Reedstar laughed. "Echokit, if you were able to chase out a fox by yourself, half the Clan would be attending your early apprenticeship ceremony while the other half looked at the sky to see if they could spot flying hedgehogs. It's good that you have big dreams...just don't go looking for trouble!"

"Nobody LOOKS for trouble!" Echokit states. bouding back into the nursery, deep in thought. "Maybe a dog will do.." She says quietly. "No..No.." she says. "Dogs are by twolegs." she wrinkles her nose.

"I knew you'd understand," Razorheart meowed in one of those annoying patronizing voices. He stopped teasing Raggedpaw and sat down. "Okay, I'll demonstrate. The prey should have settled down by now." He closed his eyes and perked his ears, listening hard. "The trick," He whispered to his apprentice, "Is to be able to distinguish prey brushing against the reeds from wind brushing against the reeds. Some cats get it right away. Others have never been able to understand. But most of the time, it just takes a lot of practice and a good mentor."
