Ravenmoon nodded, forcing back a smile.

"Come on Ebonypaw!" Blackmist called over his shoulder to the apprentice. He bolted a ways upstream, coming into a clearing that overlooked a waterfall swirling about in the river as the river rushed on. "Okay, try catching a fish for me," he prompted.

She nodded and settled down on the river bank. She stayed perfectly still, watching the water. Suddenly, her paw darted forward and she scooped up a glittering silver fish. "I did it!" She said triumphantly, killing it with a sharp bite.

"Great catch! Now, what can you scent?"

She stood still, sniffing the air. "Fox." She finally said. "But it's really stale. It was here maybe three days ago? Oh, and a water vole!"
