Salt'splash - she/her/hers - location: outside the warriors den - tags: open

Salt'splash woke up with a start, her paws tingling. That dream again. She quickly closed off her thoughts, not letting herself think about Whale'kit. That was too much. Salt'splash sat up and looked around the warriors den at the sleeping cats. All peacefully breathing in and out. Did they know how much danger they were in? How vulnerable they were? Salt'splash knew. She knew that sleeping was just asking to die. Just asking for someone to put water hemlock in your mouth and make you swallow. Just asking someone to kill you just because you're different. Salt'splash tip-toed out of the den, the stuffy air and thoughts of death becoming too much for her. She put her front paw down and felt something furry beneath it. To her horror, she had stepped on someones tail! Salt'splash carefully picked her paw back up, trying not to wake any of the sleeping cats surrounding her, and stepped the rest of the way out of the den. She looked up at the night sky, the stars twinkling menancingly at her. They seemed to be saying "if you sleep, you will join us." Salt'splash knew this was silly. Of course sleep couldn't kill someone. But... she almost wanted to join the stars. She almost wanted to see her sister again. What am I thinking? Salt'splash asked herself. I have a duty to my clan. I need to stay alive to protect them. I can't just... run into the ocean like my mother and give up. I must stay strong. And with that, Salt'splash started making plans. Plans for patrols, plans for hunts, plans for herb gathering. It was the only thing that kept her thoughts of Whale'kit at bay, so she planned. Maybe this time, those bad memories would stay away for good.

She flicked an ear at Shellfern and offered a kind smile. "I don't think you'll be retiring early... as long as you're careful from now on," Anemonstream teased lightly. Although she could never understand, a very early retirement seemed to be one of the biggest fears for a warrior. "Hmm, I suppose you're able to go hunting. Although I don't mind the company! You're not 'in my fur' at all," she laughed and shook her head. Sometimes these warriors had the silliest thoughts.

He inhaled softly and nodded his head. "Yeah, I suppose so... although it seems hard to live with. But I guess you're right. When you live in a clan, it's part of our life," Oceanreef replied. He was glad when she responded with more questions, and he thought about it for a second. It had been a while since he had hunted crabs. Why not give it another try? "It's been a long time, but if you saw them then let's try it. Why don't you go first and give me a little refresher about how to hunt them again?"

"I'll take anything, I'm not particularly picky or wanting anything specific," she purred politely and padded into the cove. The light brown she-cat glanced back at Berryfeather when she heard her growling and nudged her gently. "Is something wrong?" Nutmegpetal asked, although she didn't want to pry into the warrior's business.

"Oh... okay then. We should ask questions," he amended and nodded his head. The brown tom thought of the elders and wondered if they'd even be awake for stories and answers. Owlpaw was a little surprised when the other tom nudged him playfully, but he couldn't help but grin and swat at his ears. "Well, why don't we go now? Or do you want to train some more?"
