indentation Continuing to put the dock and fennel into their places, his ears twitched as Ivypaw's voice sounded. "Not much, do come in Ivypaw." The tom called back, making a questioning sound in his throat as he noticed a small bug on one dock leaf. Frowning, the tabby carefully plucked the bug off the leaf with his claws and gave it the stink eye. "Is there something you require? Or something you wish to ask?" Emberpuddle added in a softer tone, his eyes not leaving the bug. A quick pinch later, the bug was dead, and the tom looked over the leaf that the bug had been on, thankful that it seemed to be the only one of its kind in his freshly picked herbs. Finally, the tom turned his intense amber gaze to Ivypaw, one whiskered brow raised in question.

indentation The queens whispered response to her silent question caused her to frown for a heartbeat. That's slightly concerning. It was odd to her, after all, for all her differences with her siblings, they had always gotten along, or were at least civil with each other when things were strained. Giving her head a mental shake, she returned her gaze to Hawkpaw, though it flickered to Icekit. Her ears perked in interest as the young tom-kit questioned whether or not Hawkpaw would also be teaching - or showing really - him some battle moves. It wasn't a bad idea, and would eventually help prepare her apprentice for when he would have an apprentice of his own to train. Though she wouldn't force it on the dark tom, and waited silently for him to respond to the question.

indentation Eyes narrowing, the she-cat curled her lip in a flash of disdain at the mention of their previous deputy. Leafsprig was scum, he had abandoned his clan, the ultimate sin in her mind. Face smoothing out, she allowed herself to calm. "Well, there's not much I can say in this situation." She started with a hum, "I suppose there are a few cats that might make a good deputy, but the two of us are very different Nightstar. That being said, I'd look for a deputy that both compliments your leading style, but is different. Someone whose strength is your weakness, and whose weakness is your strength, to balance each other out." Her near sightless eyes wandered around the camp as if search out a specific cat. "But really a cat with experience is key. Someone like Sageflame is inadvisable, and I'd claw the ears off anyone who disagreed on general principle. Honestly, if Doebrook wasn't heavy with kits, I'd suggest her."
One of the many things that Hazeshade hated was that Nightstar was so young. Her training was a horrifying thing to watch, but being made deputy and then clan leader so young did her no favors in her mind. While she was spry and less likely to lose lives due to sickness, there were certain things that only experience could teach. Getting those lessons as a deputy was bad enough. Mentally sighing and shaking her head the she-cat returned her hazy gaze back to Nightstar.

It would be better to get that out of the way." And I won't have to deal with the fox-brained fool everyone calls Tigerstep. Dewsplash mentally added, with a hum. He started towards the entrance to the clan's camp, using his tail to gesture for his apprentice to follow him.
