As they were on their way to the next border marker, Sootstripe stopped suddenly when he heard a sound. His ears swiveled from side to side. "Did you hear that?" he asked his clanmates. It sounded like the cry of a kitten.

Rabbitclaw

Rabbitclaw picked up one of the larger mussels, and looked around for a place to drop the shell from. Spotting the she-cat, he dropped the shellfish, and puffed his fur up. He padded stiff-legged over to her, calling out a challenge. "Hey! This is EmberClan territory. What are you doing here?" His tail lashed, and his eyes narrowed as he scrutinised the intruder. She looked weird, even for a loner, with an odd build and an even odder pelt colour. He found himself wondering where she had come from, and how he hadn't noticed she was there when he was pulling the mussels off the log. He must've been really out of it.

Minnowpaw

Minnowpaw jolted. "It sounds like a kit! Wh- what's a kit doing all the way out here?" His fur bristled, and he sniffed around to see if he could find the source of the noise.

Salmonpaw

Salmonpaw laughed too, then stiffened, sniffing around. "Hey Yellowpaw, can you smell that?" She flicked her tail towards a bush. "I think there's a mouse in there!"

(Oh I also thought that they could leave the mussles out in the sun for a little bit so they can open up too)

Yellowpaw stopped, scenting the prey as well. He wasn't the best hunter and she was also the one to smell it first. "Oh, yea I can smell it too.. You should try and catch it."

Cinderstar stopped in the middle of marking the border to watch the apprentices in slight amusement.

Orchidbreeze's ears twitched when she heard the sound as well. "It definitely sounded like one.." She glanced at Sootstripe. "Should we go after it..?"

Merry mrrowed out a laugh, her bright blue eyes lighting up when he noticed her. "Ooh, you scared me, kitten. Did you mean to be so intimidating~?" Her tail curled in amusement.

[Cradily]

Sootstripe parted his jaws to scent the air, then nodded. "Follow me." Without another word, he padded off in the direction of the kit's cries.

Orchidbreeze silently thought to herself that she'd follow him anywhere. "Okay.." She bounded forward, staying behind him. "Where do you think it came from?"

[Cradily]

"I'm not sure," Sootstripe said as he walked along. "Somewhere over...there." He stopped suddenly and changed direction. The cries were growing louder now.

Orchidbreeze moved out of the way in time so Sootstripe wouldn't run into her. She followed with curiosity. "I hope it's not hurt.. I would hate to see a kit in pain."

Sootstripe just nodded, too concentrated on finding the kit to come up with much of a response. He sped up a little when he was more certain of the kit's location and the cries grew louder still, and came to an abrupt halt when he burst through a cluster of bushes. There, wailing and running around in a rather distressed manner in front of him, was a small, tabby she-kit.

((seafood doesn't open if you leave it - when cooking mussels and oysters you have to either boil them open or prise them open with a knife. submerging the mussels in shallower water and waiting til they feel safe might work though. you'd need to then push a stone in between their shells to stop them from closing completely. maybe a largish flat rock and a small pond near camp?))

Salmonpaw

"Are you sure you don't want to?" Salmonpaw asked, nervously laughing a little to pretend she was joking. She dropped into a crouch, and crept around the bush, confident that Cinderstar and her mentor were too busy marking the borders to pay her any attention. She stalked towards the mouse, placing her paws almost silently until she got close enough to strike. Her hind legs bunched under her and she pounced at the mouse, neatly landing on it and killing it quickly with a bite to the back of its neck. Turning around, she realised that Cinderstar hadn't been marking the border. Salmonpaw dropped the mouse awkwardly, her ears flattening like a scolded kit.

Minnowpaw

Minnowpaw bolted after the noise, scattering leaf litter as he raced after the warriors. They couldn't leave a kit all alone, that was one of the major rules that a warrior lived by and he couldn't stand the thought of a kit being alone. That would have to be the worst thing ever. He skidded to a halt behind Sootstripe, nearly colliding with the warrior's hind legs. "It is a kit!" He padded closeer to the strange kit. "Hello. I'm Minnowpaw. Do you have a name?"

Cinderstar was indeed watching the apprentice, her tail swishing a little in amusement.

Yellowpaw admired Salmonpaw's form, glancing back at his mentor while she concentrated.

Orchidbreeze felt her heart melt at the sight of the pitiful kit. She was never one to turn away from one in need, especially a young cat. "Oh, how cute.."

(So I was thinking your she cat would get to be med cat since that other rper hasn't been seen in a few weeks)
